Solid advices.
> Cards need to be properly formatted first
I just want to add that format procedure that is described on official iFlash site is unnecessarily convoluted. I has been doing numerous tests with different adapters and restored my iPods a hundred times no less. And I find free Rufus utility much more convenient for preparing SD cards for iPod. Just choose "non-bootable" option and click start. It's fast, reliable and worked every single time for me.
It's going to be difficult to find someone selling a modded iPod Classic. It's a pretty finicky mod.
But you can buy an iPod Classic and one of these and accomplish the same thing.
If there's no analog aux input, maybe a bluetooth transmitter (usually transmitter/receiver) would be simplest? I use one similar to this: https://www.amazon.com/Giveet-Bluetooth-Transmitter-Streaming-Headphones/dp/B07198BBZN/
I've tried a couple 30-pin FM transmitters (Belkin) and the TX power is too low, even when modified to bypass attenuators and add an antenna.
I do exactly the same. I have a big folder, called "Music", and another (smaller) one with playlists. I have countless playlists in .m3u format, which I prepare on my computer (with Winamp, but you can use any player or playlist manager to make the playlists). And then I just choose a playlist, or a folder, or a file... you can add playlists to your playlist, you can add files (songs), and/or folders with albums, and/or folders with artists... the possibilities are endless. You can even load .cue files (one big file with the whole album with no gaps, and .cue file with the track marks), and then you'll see the tracks of the album. And Rockbox supports a lot of file formats. You can even delete tracks/files and folders within Rockbox menu.
See www.rockbox.org
Look for a program called Sharepod. I am using a version from 2012 on my Win 7 PC. I will never update it and will cry when my laptop dies.
It works very well.
In the kits I have used they don’t describe the type so I’m not certain tho they do note “Felt polishing wheel” in the description. These 2 kits are what I have bought:
1Inch Polishing Buffing Wheel Set,Wool Felt Cotton Mounted 3mm Shank for Rotary Tool Accessories,Mini Brush Polishing Kit for Watch and Jewelry 50 Pieces https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QTWXF97/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_X038PFJ9H3XV9ZNZN8X4?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 I don’t use the softer wheels, I use the much firmer ones
Dremel 684-01 20-Piece Cleaning & Polishing Rotary Tool Accessory Kit with Case- Includes Buffing Wheels, Polishing Bits, and Compound https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00005LEXV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_WQGJ7Z30Z5W1G4Z2WBM4?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 DONT use the compound that’s included in this kit, it feels waxy and doesn’t do a lot or anything at all, but it does include a nice amount of what you need.
If you want to polish the back you’d get these:
Red Rouge Polishing Compound https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0009SOB9O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_XAKEKZSM5VVQGA8FJPDS?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Dremel 3000-2/28 Variable Speed Rotary Tool Kit- 1 Attachments & 28 Accessories- Grinder, Sander, Polisher, Router, and Engraver- Perfect for Routing, Metal Cutting, Wood Carving, and Polishing https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005JRJE7Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_462EBZF16RHS7ZTAY0P7
If you want to polish the FRONT however, you’ll want some 1500->2000->3000grit sandpaper with WD-40 as a lubricant and Brasso for a finer polish (use a microfiber towel/cloth for the Brasso). And have some rubbing alcohol to wipe off some of the brasso once your done. You WILL want to dissasemble the iPod if it’s a 1st or 2nd Gen. failure to do so WILL result in you killing it. If it’s a 3rd gen and 4th gen you don’t have to worry about that as much. 5th gens it won’t do a whole lot and 6/7th gens you’ll just scratch them and most likely make it look worse.

I’m going to buy this Anker Bluetooth transmitter next month. I read the reviews on Best Buy and it seems to do the trick. A little pricey but it’s from a trusted brand. I’ll post my results when I get it and try it out.
Dear all, has anyone already tested the best way to maximize speeds with flash card upgrades for ipods 4th, 5th and 5.5th gen? I've been benching the 1.8 inch HDDs of the 4th and 5.5th ipod and its about 15MB/s for sequential read and write speeds each.
The "cheap" variant of a zif to cf adapter with a cf to sd adapter with fast SD cards seems to limit write speeds to around 7-9MB/s. Has anyone found a method for faster transfers? As far as I've seen, m.2 SSD oder mSATA SSD would be a possibility, although their power consumption seems to be a huge downside.
Any experiences about different ZIF converters? Any benchmarks that people would like to post about their iFlash iPods?
I'm currently on

This is the case! I also have another that can testify on my behalf! He loves his case! im sure he'll see this post soon :3
I filled some empty space in my thick 4th gen with a piece of EVA foam, which is the same material the included pads are made from. It's a common material used in lots of products that doesn't easily crumble like other polymer foams. I found a store locally that sells EVA foam products and asked for a scrap piece and they gave me a deformed letter from a children's toy like this. I just cut it to size and smoothed the edges so there weren't crumbs and jaggy bits from my crude cutting.
Google EVA foam for an idea of the products it gets used in and see if you can't hunt down or repurpose a scrap.
oh, thanks, you're right! my bad
I used the same polish that I usually use for backplates - https://www.amazon.com/Autosol-Utosol-0400-Metal-Polish/dp/B003XJ1ODM
I guess it is some sort of softer aluminium alloy - I polished it by hand, didn't push too hard and eventually got that shine (I don't think it is possible to get a mirror finish though)

if you get the quad, you can fit the 3000mah "thin" battery.
Honestly I had them laying around… but they are like 7€ on Amazon. Here’s a link: https://www.amazon.de/Momentaner-taktiler-Druckknopfschalter-Zubehör-Miniatur-Mikro-Taster-Tastschalter/dp/B08D65M8KP/ref=mp_s_a_1_43?crid=34OL2275L7DDY&keywords=micro+switch&qid=1655445921&sprefix=micro+switch%2Caps%2C85&sr=8-43
I‘m in DE but just search for micro switch and find a listing with a similar picture.
The fix itself is quite easy if you have a pair of tweezers. Maybe I‘m going to make a video tutorial at some point.
That being said, if you‘re getting the iPod in working condition by following nekomichi‘s tips you don‘t need to follow my steps. But even if the button itself on the logic board is broken you can get it to work again with this.
I'll second the BLONs. I love mine. They're $30 on Drop atm.
I prefer the Tin HIFI T2 Plus over the BLONs though. At $60 they're a bit over your budget.
My ears are on the small side and I find these two are really comfortable to wear all day and sound great.
You shouldn't be experiencing static and noise with the KZs though. My first thought is that the cable might be carrying noise when it contacts your hair or clothes, but you'd have the same issue when using them with your phone. Do you get noise and static on your iPod with other headphones? You might have a loose, damaged or dirty headphone port on your iPod.

Getting nowhere, I finally turned to Facebook Marketplace, where, after some patience, I found someone who was selling a 7th Gen in perfect condition for $100, in my area. Check it out, you might have to be patient and bide your time but in this pandemic, owners who are looking for extra cash will post them for sale.
https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/
I would try searching for your immediate area, in reason. I found mine in the same city I live in, but I had to keep checking FB Marketplace for almost a month before I finally lucked out. Keep in mind that I had never used FB Marketplace before I found mine about a few weeks into searching a few times per week.
Hello! They’re the sephia SP3060 Earbuds, Wired in-Ear Headphones with Tangle-Free Cord, Noise Isolating, Bass Driven Sound, Metal Earphones, Carry Case, Ear Bud Tips, 3.5mm (as listed on Amazon) and here’s the link: https://www.amazon.com/SP3060-Isolating-Earphones-Headphones-BlackBerry/dp/B0170RBJ9Q
If you like over the ear, then these are really great. They have a removable wire and also have Bluetooth so you can use them with BT devices OR wired devices like the ipod. If you use the wire, then they don't need to be turned on. If you use BT, then you turn them on and they use the built in battery and will need to be recharged. There is also a model that can do active noise canceling but I have not tried them.
No, this kind plugs into the ipod's headphone jack. Granted, you need to make sure the transmitter is charged too. The one I got for my wife 2 years ago isn't on Amazon anymore, but this appears to be similar.
Nice score. I've been trying to find an iPod on Craigslist near me, and everyone wants $300 for one.
I found one on Offerup.com, but wanted to make sure it was a 7G and not a 6G, and the seller refused to tell me the serial number or the model number. So, I had to take a pass on it.
> Or actually, let's see if a full wipe with AOMEI does anything for it.
You can also try free Rufus utility. I find it more convenient for preparing SD cards for iPod. Just choose "non bootable" option in "Boot selection" drop-down list and under "Show advanced format options" uncheck "create extened label..." It's fast, reliable and doesn't need manual tinkering like AOMEI. It automatically wipes MBR, deletes all partitions and creates just one new. iTunes never had a problem with cards formatted through it in any adapters including iFlash.
Although I doubt any program can help now when card's controller went into read-only.
Hi everyone! I’m so happy I finally got this working.
Decided a button on the back would suffice out of all of the various options. Felt like I was running out of space so didn’t really want to attempt the method using gates. I also don’t have a 3D printer (yet).
This is the exact Bluetooth board I used: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08HHB7X6S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_BAQX2YYEP1D3AK7BJTXQ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1. The two capacitors on the board I desoldered as they made it too big. This adds a little bit of noise but it’s not too bad. I will likely try to put wire extensions on these capacitors another day and try to find some empty space to put them. The board says it has aptX and is 5.0. I have no idea if it actually is, and don’t really care. It works with AirPods and my Sony h.ear on 2’s.
I disassembled both the CF-SD reader (standard cheapo eBay, had red sticker on front with bad graphic design of that helps you find the exact one), and SanDisk Extreme Pro 64gb (don’t use Ultra/Ultra Plus cards, they won’t work) SD card and soldered them together to make space for the BT battery. The iPod power (C22) is soldered to the micro USB of the Bluetooth board. When the iPod is plugged in, the board receives 5v and begins to charge. Consequently, Bluetooth can’t be used while charging or syncing. I opted to also not add any LED indicator for the BT module as I think it would take away from the classic design of the iPod.
This was my first time soldering with enameled wire as much as I did here. I found it best to melt the ends off using my soldering iron (TS80) at 370° with a bit of solder on the tip and sticking the wire into the solder. I had to resolder this entire project because I didn’t heat the enamel hot enough the first time.

I use NoteBurner Audio Recorder. It can also turn Apple Music to MP3 files. But remind that it's for personal use. https://www.noteburner.com/audio-recorder-windows.html
This is probably the best option, and would definitely work better than an FM Transmitter. Something like this can work both as a transmitter (sending your iPod aux to the car via bluetooth) or as a receiver (capturing your phone's bluetooth audio and playing it through home stereo).
You could get a 12v Radio; Car Charger. Which has 2 USB and sometimes with a 3.5 mm jack and then you just tune your car radio to the set frequency and you just press Play and..
Boom.
Not the sexist option but the Bluetooth mod isn’t easy and getting another DAP could get pricy. There are many options for DAPs on Amazon that fit your need.
As other pointed out Sandisk has issues with the iPods. I used these Samsung cards with the iflash quad with no skipping issues at all. They come with an adaptor to use with regular SPD card slots.
KZ 4 Eva! Nothing like them under 400 dollars. You might also consider some hi Fi studio monitors over ears. They are cheap and incredible https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073BWKNVV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_D6XGB5K6AF28VKN9PAYT

This is what I bought but it’s not the polishing compound included with my dremmel. If you want that one it’s this model that I have:
Dremel 3000-2/28 Variable Speed Rotary Tool Kit- 1 Attachments & 28 Accessories- Grinder, Sander, Polisher, Router, and Engraver- Perfect for Routing, Metal Cutting, Wood Carving, and Polishing https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005JRJE7Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_MGQ6C8Q425ZTZ7ZQK9XM
I have the same ZIF to CF converter, but the DeLink CF Type 1 converter for microSD cards. https://smile.amazon.de/gp/product/B0041SCGEU/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Don't forget to bend the master/slave pins and cut the soldered pins on the backside of the pcb. They can create a contact with the iPods PCB. I believe that this happened to mine, as it also had similar problems a few times while I was trying to restore it.

Can be a variety of things I would get a charging amp meter like so: https://www.amazon.ca/Capacity-Multimeter-Detector-Dual-usb-DC3-2-15V/dp/B00Z5O3Y0Y
First off tho. The battery may be toast. Second issue is it may be the port the battery connects too. The pads sometimes lift and become semi connected. I had one recently that when you pushed the connector down it worked so I superglued it down. After a while it would do the same thing so I desoldered it. And the connection underneath was split.
Still waiting on my 40 gauge wire to fix it lol.
I’ve learned recently on other iPods that if there is corrosion anywhere on the board not to bother because it’s usually toast.
That red one broke my iPod. I would suggest this one
Few bucks more, but definitely gives you more piece of mind.
I would say get the Samsung Evo, these work fine since it's mostly music
SAMSUNG: EVO Select 128GB microSDXC UHS-I U3 100MB/s Full HD & 4K UHD Memory Card with Adapter (MB-ME128HA) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0887GP791/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_rZytFbED11TQY
If i was going for the ideal setup - I’d go for a 7th gen, the big battery and the iflash quad. I’m sure buying multiple micro sd cards will be cheaper than getting a very large sd. It will also mean you can keep the thin back and use your existing jack and hold button with their respective cables (which cost me £15 to buy to fit into the thick back case). Also I made sure i researched well the sd card to get by seeing what had definitely worked for other people in the iflash.
This one worked for me perfectly in the iflash solo. I followed the formatting instructions on the iflash website first

I haven’t used it enough to tell to be honest. Only installed it last week and have only used it briefly since. But it’s as good as you’re gonna get. I use this which drains the battery more
KOKKIA i10s + aptX (NEW Luxurious Black) Tiny Bluetooth iPod Transmitter for iPod/iPhone/iPad/iTouch with true Apple authentication, delivers cleaner audio with reduced latency for aptX Bluetooth receivers. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008PWN0I4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_HyglFb3VBRH5Y
But i can tell the bigger battery i just installed is significantly better than the 650mAh battery that i installed new last year
The kokkia i10s does this perfectly (for all its other flaws). The bluetooth module I was trying to mod into the audio signal couldn't.
I don't need to upgrade my storage in the future, and because my ipod is always plugged in I don't really mind power usage and battery life. I am changing my battery just because it will probably fail soon if I don't.
Would you go for a different kind of SSD? I am much more comfortable buying from amazon than ebay too.
