The new XCom is bit too comixey for my taste. I am definately going to try it but i won't get my hopes up. I'm looking forward Xenonauts though, it looks very faithful to old X-Com in terms of gameplay and atmosphere. Another promising indie turn based game is Wasteland 2. The first Wasteland was predecesor to the Fallout series so Wasteland 2 looks much more like Fallout sequel than the actual Fallout 3.
I spend a fair amount of time helping people on this sub get their 1.13 installs set up. I've seen your response to u/aeschenkarnos and I'm going to tell you this:
If you want anybody to help you get this set up you're going to need to buy a fresh copy of Jagged Alliance 2 from GOG.com and do a fresh install. Setting up 1.13 to run on a Widows 10 machine is possible, but it's a tightrope act to get it to work. All of the guides and all of the tested methods require following a pretty exact recipe. Ingredient number one is a fresh GOG install.
I have no idea what effect attempting to install this off the original retail disk will have, other than that it will probably not work.
Hi, and welcome to the community.
If you want to get into Jagged Alliance games I'd suggest buying Jagged Alliance 2 off GOG.com. It's easier to work with than the Steam edition and
The original Jagged Alliance can be a cool throwback game if you played it when it came out, but IMO it has aged very poorly and you really don't need to have played it to get into JA2. The more modern JA-franchise games on Steam are very okay. They're more in the style of X-COM2 than JA2 and while some of them aren't bad, they don't really feel like Jagged Alliance titles.
Most people who play Jagged Alliance in 2020 are playing with one of a few popular modpacks. The majority of these modpacks are built on a mod called the 1.13 patch. There's a ton of variants of 1.13 and a ton of total conversion mods, alternate campaigns, and re-balances that change up the experience.
If you want something really close to base JA2 but with a few improved features I would suggest JA2 with the 1.13 v.7609 mod. Alternatively, a lot of people like the Stracciatella mod. If you let me know more about what your interests are I can help you choose a modpack and get it set up.
