That’s awesome. You should! I wouldn’t worry about snobby people on YouTube. I’ve found that the sword community there is pretty supportive. They encourage people to keep practicing etc mostly for selfish reasons of wanting to see more content :) I’ve been really impressed by all the encouraging comments as I’ve been posting videos. I’m definitely still a rookie. The big thing that helped me get started was a selfie stick tripod for $8.00 used on Amazon to use with a cell phone.

Talented man in so many ways.. Yea I have been researching him, but everyday I find something new! Now I found his book here too https://www.amazon.com/Book-Five-Rings-Way-Warrior-ebook/dp/B07QB7S7JW/ref=sr_1_8?dchild=1&keywords=musashi+sword+care&qid=1608422923&sr=8-8
I agree with the first comment. I would not buy this sword. 1045 steel swords usually sell for around $50. You can get a 1060 sword with real samegawa sting ray skin for $115-$125 like he said. Amazon has the Musashi, and tons of other places sell it.
Musashi - 1060 Carbon Steel - Differentially Hardened Katana https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004E2UY7E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_QbDRFbPBDMZ61?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Those are cool for display but wouldn’t you like to buy full tang battle ready swords you can cut bottles and stuff with? If you cut with these they will bend where the blade meets the handle, and sword will be ruined. They make this kind of sword with a rat tang (or rat tail), and they aren’t made to be actually used. $50 will buy you useable swords. These are nice display swords though! I’m not knocking them if you just hang them and admire them only.
Here is a cheap sword with decent quality (handmade blade, full tang, sharp, high carbon steel):

I was planning to get this mineral oil (link below), and I could always stop the whole water-boiling thing as it isn’t necessary to me. I want to display them on a stand/wall stand inside their saya, so if I eliminate the water boiling, would it be fine?

I don't know what you're trying to prove or say in the second paragraph. You first mentioned what Kamakura was when dueling was really common and that's what led to the blade facing upwards. What I wanted to say was that Kamakura wasn't a "dueling often" period, and that there were still wars that required people to use tachi instead of katana/uchigatana. A "dueling often" period to me would be late Sengoku to mid Edo period (if you don't count Bakumatsu assassinations and skirmishes to be duels), with figures like Tsukahara Bokuden and Musashi who traveled and dueled lots of people.oorly made mass-produced katana mainly in the Bizen and Mino regions. I think you have the timeline wrong. The katana and uchigatana are synonyms from what I know.
My sources are this book by a person who studied under Kanzan and worked in NBTHK. This also corroborates what I said

Handbond Forge sells directly off their website and they also sell the anime stuff off amazon. Not sure how helpful that is to your EU request but here's one example.

And here is from their website...
Here are the anime blades offered through HBF. I think they offer several of these through Amazon and well as well which would be quicker shipping.

Ok, I think for now I'll get some camellia oil which seems to be choji oil without the insane price tag. Will this be sufficient? I think I'll apply it with the cotton tshirts scraps I use to clean my guns, unless I need to use microfiber instead? I found it on amazon here https://www.amazon.com/Yoshihiro-Japanese-Maintenance-Complimentary-Sabitori/dp/B00AZ6SYSY/ref=sr_1_12?keywords=choji+oil&sr=8-12
Also, if you know of any Japanese swordsmiths in the southwest Virginia area or the northern New Jersey area I would greatly appreciate it. Or if I could mail it to somewhere reputable to get it polished up to a mirror shine.
I think this is really cool and don't intend on ever selling it. I think it'll probably make a great story how I got this crazy antique Japanese sword for $350 at a pawn shop.
Ah ok, thanks! I looked it up on amazing, is there any specific kind of mineral oil I should get?
Will this work? mineral oil 1
That looks like it would work, but that's also made for violin, viola, and cello cleaning; it looks like it might be pretty thin, meaning that the oil might bleed right through it and be all over you. I was thinking something more like this. Little thicker and more durable and only about $6 USD, on Amazon. I'm not 100% sure what that would be in Krone, but I'm sure you can find the same or similar product for cheap.
You would likely still need the oil if you want to really preserve the blade. That would be what's preventing further corrosion on the metal. If you were able to buff out the existing rust and just plan on wiping the blade down after handling it, you can probably get by with just the cloth.
As far as an application cloth coming with the oil from Tozando, that was just pure speculation. It very likely could just be the oil and nothing else. The full maintenance kits come with, at least nuguigami paper (but that is also not reusable) but, they are also much more expensive and probably contain things you may never even use. The product description for the oil, alone, does not mention anything aside from the blade oil.
Don’t worry. It’s not wrecked.

Increase in grit. Sand with water. Mirror finish will come.
Hey I get those after cutting, wiping them after every cut is helpful but let's be realistic we don't just stop and wipe and continue lol, so I got this choji oil from Amazon that came with a rust Eraser and that takes it off like a charm and doesn't mess up your blade.
Here is the link for the oil: Tinyroots Choji Oil Tool Cleaning Kit, Simply Wipe The Mineral Oil on to Restore Your Sword, Knives, Bonsai Tools, Includes Rust Eraser and Lint Free Cloth https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007P3XUIE/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_EEA888EGA0VH436Y903T?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
So I would recommend getting a rust eraser to take those off!
It’s not worth a try. If your going to waste the money, at least go for a functional cheap sword. I used to have one of these that I cut with for many months.
That would work. You can get mineral oil cheap on Amazon in quantity though. Something like this

That’s a decent sword!! 1060 steel with a full tang. Possibly the best one I’ve seen besides this

The one that I use all the time is a $99 Xinan2018 1060 spring steel. It has fake ray skin. Cotton ito, cheap alloy hardware, but the blade is so good. I lacquered the ito so it wouldn’t come loose, and sharpened it like a razor.

I would suggest a Xinan2018 in 1060 on Amazon. It’s the best sword for the price I’ve ever seen. It’s my primary every day cutter. It’s awesome. I have some expensive katana that look better and are made of better steel etc…I always seem to come back to the xinan2018. I just love it. The heat treatment on their blades is top notch. Sword is tough!

I always see
If you're willing to put a little effort into a decent $100.00 katana, DTYES has one on sale on Amazon for $96.
I have this exact katana. The blade is decent. It looks good and handles light cutting just fine. The fittings are zinc, I think and the overall construction is pretty good for the price point. Here's a look under the hood.
I will tell you though, this more garish in person than in pictures or videos. About a week after I got this one I spent $15 and ordered a black tsuba to replace the gold one that came on the katana. I think I spent about 30 seconds filing it down to fit. That simple change gives the katana a completely different look. (I'm at work atm, so I can't take a picture of it...)
I'd probably get a pre made tsuka and replace certain parts.
Like get something like this or close https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HLY2WKJ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_CN462PMKEA2NYXEKSC35?psc=1
And then get like maybe a different kashira, fuchi, and cord. Then learn how to warp the tsuka.
Also is the cord for the tsuka and the sageo cord the same? Like could I just buy 2 and use it for both?
Sheesh. I basically want this but maybe instead of gold I'd do black or something idk yet really. I wanted to learn how it works before I choose colors and stuff.
It is definitely possible to have shoulder straps without a full leather covering, however having the full leather covering can make connection points less prone to stretching. No idea why it cannot be Removable though, it should be quite easy, see here.
Please note that not having a full leather covering can put alot of stress on attachment points depending on the weight of your piece.
Cutting tree branches with a sword is pretty likely to damage your sword. So I’d say either get a really cheap katana that would be easy to replace or a katana shaped machete like this one made by Cold Steel
There is an exact katana I am eyeing that's 121.39 USD and they have one with BoHi and one without, I came here to get a better look on the subject, here's the link to the katana I'm looking at (the red and black choice) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B081T8PJTQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_VHWCBAR233A9ZYNKGRJD?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B000XK0FMU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_KDPQVGX33EZDRC8H84BH
My recommendation for high quality stones. Are there better, yes, are there cheaper, yes, but these are good quality and consistent for not too much. Plus you can sharpen straight razors with them if you get a finishing stone or strop.
You could buy those silica packets and put the somewhere very close to the swords. No guarantee to work but worth a try. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZ4ZQ3Z/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_S1FJZFEZ9EN68CXN53V4
Honestly if you want a cool decorative sword around $50, I would look on Amazon for anything in Musashi's Musha series. It's basically their budget $50 sword line that are exceptional quality but would look just fine on a wall or something. However, other than some of the $20 wallhangers you usually find on Amazon, these are usable. Example: https://www.amazon.com/Musha-Samurai-Disassemble-Collection-Practice/dp/B07YQ8QYLM?ref_=ast_sto_dp
For something sub $200, I would honestly go to Amazon and by something from Musashi. They make pretty good sub $200 katanas. Here's a good one: https://www.amazon.com/Musashi-Carbon-Steel-Tempered-Samurai/dp/B004E322DC/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=musashi+katana&qid=1606605134&sr=8-5
This is the kill bill sword but I do not recommend it. It’s display only.
Kill Bill Samurai Sword Bill's Sword https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0086OKPX4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_fePvFbE9YV4RH
Also, for 3 sword display sets, I’ve seen them as low as $25.00 in Chinatown. Trust me... they will break when used. My first sword was a Chinatown special that I immediately broke.
Thanks man!
Here is another $50 one that comes with a display stand too. I think Musha is better quality all around, but this one is okay quality. It can handle abuse. I bought one of each.

You could use Renaissance wax. A wax that museums use for storing antique weapons. I’m not an expert whatsoever (!!) but I am just Putting it out there as something I’ve read was good for storing. I also read that Singers sewing Machine oil is good which is pretty much like mineral oil.

Okay this might seem strange but I also found an identical sword on Amazon. Description and look 100% identical to this one that was $95 after tax and delivery. I’m never using that Trueswords. Com again. This was supposedly the actual sword brand called Musashi (Company name) but I read Musashi brand is always 1065 steel. I think this is actually this ($20 cheaper Makoto):

Don't do it.
Get this one. Cheaper, and actually usable. Kind of incredible that it exists, honestly.
Eh, it's nothing special. Just a $50 katana off Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002WK6X2K/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I bought it because it looks like an engaging exercise tool, weightlifting is getting boring and I don't see myself getting into tai chi or yoga.
I've only had it about a day and I already enjoy it so I may spend money down the road on a higher-end sword.
