Got mine recently at $87.96 shipped from a pre-Black Friday 20% off deal. I feel like I can ply/wrench anything in combination with my Knipex Mini Pliers Wrench, which happens to be at its best price on Amazon at the moment.
I use a card protector to store 6 wiha bits, fold the protector in the middle, and store it in a pocket organizer,
Tons of companies make this. If you like pancake style holsters (as thin as possible, but tends to be wider), try this belt holster from Diodrio.
I bought the XXL and use it for a Olight Baton S2R and a Skeletool, but it will fit my Surge if I push it down.
No but if you buy a nite ize pocket clip it works too if you look on YouTube there’s test on how well it holds
The cybertool M is probably the best combination of size and functionality. The L is a little big. https://www.amazon.com/Victorinox-Swiss-Army-Cybertool-Functions/dp/B0007QCP50/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=cybertool+m&qid=1605731638&sr=8-4
Woah, time out bro, I got you covered! I just checked Amazon and look what I found for $78.09 and free shipping!
I've purchased gift cards for my Canadian pen pal on Amazon.ca before, so I know you can purchase things off a foreign Amazon with your local card. The question is, will Amazon.com ship to Canada?
Try punching your address in and see if it will let you. If not, I can order it and mail it to you!
Not like a toothpick. Just a regular pick to hit small reset buttons and clean out gunk from threads. You shouldn't because the steel isn't the greatest. From a review on the Leatherman site "This little screwdriver is also helpful when there is a tiny space that you need access to. I've opened plugged glue bottle nozzles, carefully scrapped paint from threaded bolts, even dug dirt from my finger nails. Due to a variety of non-traditional uses it would be an advantage to be made of stronger steel."
Consider the Klein Tradesman knife holder. Fits Surge perfectly, as if tailored for it (no room for bit kit). Closure is magnetic. I added an extra magnet to mine. Has a heavy duty steel belt clip that looks the same as on the Skinth sheaths people are posting. Can't go wrong at $11. The Klein patch can be removed easily by cutting it's stitching if you find the billboarding tacky.
The Surge is a great general purpose multitool. I keep one in the trunk of my car, along with a Leatherman Bit Kit.
I would recommend that you also keep a small tool, specifically designed for vehicle emergencies, within easy reach of the driver's seat. It's good to have a seat belt cutter and a glass breaker in case you get trapped in the vehicle. I use the Res-Q-Me for that purpose. I discovered that if you get the visor mount for it you can attach it to any of the levers on the steering wheel, which keeps it handy.
It has to ship from china, so it will take like a month to arrive to the US, but it is worth it in my opinion. I removed a 14mm seat bolt from a vehicle with it, and those are torqued down tight at the factory for safety.
I'm a fan of keysmart's nano-clip. It's a bit smaller than the Nite Ize Hip Clip. I've attached a ton of them to different things and I've never had a problem. I used same 3m epoxy tape and it works great.
Ps, don't buy the TEC branded clips that look very similar to the keysmart one. The keychain hole is to small to use as a suspension pocket clip and they don't fit very well over thicker things like my baseball cap or my flannel lined jeans.
https://www.amazon.com/KeySmart-Nano-Clip-Eliminates-Midnight/dp/B07KPKW72Y
If that isn't enough surface area to keep the clip attached, consider trying keysmart's nano-clip. It has a larger back, so it might work better. I've attached a ton of them to different things and I've never had a problem. I used 3m epoxy tape and it works great.

You're going to get like 100 different answers, so here's mine. I prefer Super Lube Synthetic Oil:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000UKUHXK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
For the few tools I plan on using with food, I use mineral oil.
Ebay or scavenging from another tool. I recommend a parse wrench for disassembly, but it's not strictly necessary, and you can take it apart with pliers, or preferably, screw removal pliers (note that you may damage the screw heads)
All of the Wave internal tools fit, but note that certain arrangements of tools will not work and cause issues with the pliers closing. I removed the serrated blade and phillips driver and added the Wave bit exchanger and microdriver with the can opener in the knife position—any other arrangement of those three tools on that side didn't work
Nextool makes what is mechanically very similar to a Wave, and they also make this one-sided tool that is basically this, but with some other small handle tools mounted where the pliers would go.
Use these with paracord. They vary in sizes and can be readily found at farm, sporting goods, and hardware stores.
Yeah, it's similar in Australia or 3rd parties selling for almost as much as a brand new Wave.
There's this option - https://www.amazon.com/Wiha-Replacement-Reload-Technicians-Driver/dp/B01J92O13Q just google wiha 77782 if you can't buy from Amazon.
I haven't tried these personally but the internet seems to think they're superior to Leaatherman's own bits and are cheaper and are compatibile - only downside is you don't get those bit storage rolls that Leatherman makes .
If you’re going to do one or the other I suggest getting the rachate driver so your wrist doesn’t hurt. The bit extension always good to have for tough to reach places. I like the 711 Rachet because it’s angled and pairs well with the but driver. I rarely used that combo though because if I ever needed to combine them I would of just got the proper tools.
I'd just spend the extra few bucks to get a Donk! titanium pocket clip for the Wave since I've heard of a lot of cases where the steel clips snapped or otherwise failed. Additionally, it will look nicer and I think it probably has a more snug fit.
This is what I got:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0893XQC94
Comes with a big lanyard one too, that piece doesn't seem so useful to me, I left that in the box. The clip is good though, way less lateral play.
This one is smaller and persoanlly I like it better, you could grind the end to fit in the bit holder it you want (its a couple bucks cheaper)
The letherman bits fit and lock in both sides in on angle (I marked mine with nail polish)
https://www.amazon.com/Vim-Tools-HBR3-Bit-Ratchet/dp/B002Y05COI/
This is the one I've been using for quite a while:

Have one on my keychain at all times. It's fantastic. People complain about the scissors I guess, but I don't buy a multitool for the scissors. I use it primary for the screwdriver, pliers, and knife.

I also have one of these on my keychain, and I think it rounds things out nicely:
I can’t confirm because I do t have those two. They are very similar but does your nylon sheath have these compartments? Go to picture 3

>He has one that he just needs to restock micro bit adapter for the bit exchanger
You can get one on Amazon if you don't want to wait for restock.
>Is there any benefit from buying a leatherman straight from them or could I get one from amazon, rei, etc? The price seems to be the same everywhere, just might get faster shipping with some options I was thinking.
No, buy it wherever.

>Does anyone know of a solid surge holster? I want to keep it on my belt but have it sticking out, holster-style for quick access. Sideways or vertical, just something that sorta clicks into place but is ready for quick removal / replacement
I have NOT purchased this, but it looks like this is it:
https://www.amazon.com/711L-Ratchet-Wrench-Screwdriver-Extension/dp/B09MJYRQP4/
Note that it doesn't come from Amazon and the $8 shipping cost (if buying in US).
I cant seem to find this model.
I found 1 old post from amazon but no listing price amazon link
But other from that i find no info about this model, is it a limited edition or so?. I find some charge damascus models but they arent gold plated. And i found some gold plated charges but they have no damascus blade. 🤔
Saw this bit ratchet that has bee designed to fit in the Leatherman bit holder. I think it's awesome, if a bit strange.
The same reverse gear mechanism used by wera, vim, prestacycle, facom, etc.
I know this is not what you are looking for, but it is the closest.
https://www.wihatools.com/bits/tradesman-ultra-bits-reload
Inside two of this so that they don't poke anything
Reminds me a bit of the BitLockr, although that works with the LM proprietary bits, which apparently are now impossible to find!
I CAN carry the coin purse in a pocket as well, but it's not particularly practical or comfortable. I generally carry it and the rest of my stuff (including my Surge) in my leg bag when I'm doing stuff for which I'm carrying my Surge in the first place.
Nope again.
This is the adapter that is missing from the case. It would work on the old school Supertool or PST - you pull the pliers apart a little (don't open the tool) jam this in there and then pinch the handles shut:
https://www.amazon.com/Leatherman-65010301K-Standard-Adapter-Super/dp/B0009MFWI4
I picked up this inexpensive Chinese multitool with really nice scissors and I modded them to fit the Curl. After a bit of careful work, they fit like a glove and have all the same snap in and out of the lockbar as my Surge's scissors. They really are great scissors though.
I got a coin purse to carry my bit kit in (but I didn't pay 22 bucks, because it didn't come with those bells and whistles at the time I bought it), mostly because I had a couple of bits that wouldn't stay in the bit holder and I didn't want to lose them.
You ever seen or heard of the QSP Penguin? Super hard D2 tool steel and Micarta handle.. literally $28 and lasts a lifetime. Here’s a link:
QSP Penguin Pocket Knife,D2 blade,Various Handle Option (OD green micarta handle) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B093LGYNHJ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_29Z9KAVNZNYF7NC324ED?psc=1
Kinda renowned for being the best bang for buck on almost ANY EDC knife. D2 is great steel for construction. I used it to trim drywal, pry things, cut open nasty ass bags of material. D2 just won’t quit.. it stays sharp as nuts even with abuse.

I use the ceramic rod on this: https://www.amazon.com/Work-Sharp-Guided-Field-Sharpener/dp/B009YKHZ96/ref=sr_1_2?crid=2ZUHGM4HIOKSV&keywords=Work+Sharp+Guided+Field+Sharpener&qid=1649351274&s=hi&sprefix=work+sharp+guided+field+sharpener%2Ctools%2C117&sr=1-2
Note: Leatherman’s standard sharpening angle for plain edge blade sections is 32° (16° per side). Serrated blade sections are sharpened to 20° (one-sided).
Nope! I just open the saw, put the little pen underneath, and the saw holds it in place once it's closed. To access, I just open the saw and it falls out!

https://www.amazon.com/Victorinox-Retractable-Pen-Refill-Blue/dp/B0017UXPOA
It’s a micro ratchet driver that fits 1/4” bits. I also bought two sets of security torx bits to use for all of my adjustments. T10 is definitely the right size and two of those are all you need for dis and re-assembly. If the teeth on your bit is worn that could cause it to spin.
Here’s the link for the ratchet - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0748DCVHN/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_04DYJ0SHBGWKPV5W6PB7?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Here's what I do - it might not be the best method, but I never had a tool rust following these steps.
Note - this is not a food-safe method. If you are one of those crazed maniacs than use your multitool on food, do not follow these steps.
I freehand sharpen with whetstones. I'm good enough at it that I can consistently apply edges sharper than factory, except right at the curviest curve of the belly (that area tends to come out a bit uneven). I would stay away from pull-through cutters because the blades on multitools are relatively short (measure from blade to spine), and you can quickly eat away a lot of steel, and the thickness behind the edge will result in not-so-great cutting performance even if you do get a wicked edge.
But, I basically don't use the blades on my multitools anymore - I just carry a dedicated folder for cutting. So how often? Basically never.
For freehand sharpening, you can start with something like a King 1000/6000 wetstone which is fine for repairing a rolled edge, but if you're are reprofiling out a chip, 1000 grit will take forever and you'll want something in the 200-600 range. You could also just get a worksharp guided system for $50. add a strop block and some compound and you'll have razor sharpness again.
Thanks for sharing saw his post yesterday I think,

I've been planning on replacing my saw on my Wave with one of these for a couple years, but I've haven't gotten around to it.

That model is sold under a bunch of different names. Idk what that brand is, but here’s the tool in a different color scheme by another brand.

Yeah OP, others are right on this one. You’ve got the XS Knippex cobra pipe wrench. Keep that. But also match it with the 6” Knippex Pliers Wrench. That link goes right to it. It will render your adjustable wrench obsolete (just as it did mine). The tool rules.
Get the knipex not cresent wrench. It's so most revolutionary hand tool I have bought in years. Do what the guy above said

It's a tight fit, but eventually the sheath does "give". Pretty comfortable I bought a second one for my victorinox spirit as well.
Mmm, not a cutting disk, but literal rolls of sand paper, like this:
The smallest one may be close to the right size. Start with low grit and move to high. Other than that, you are right. Shouldn't take more than 10-20 min at most.
The lock could also not fit, as it may also not be wide enough. Could work though, I just didn't wanted to risk 200$.

That's my standatd, guess it's not the kind I should use?
I had a maglite brand multiool holer that I used for about 6 years. Held up great for heavy everyday use. I carried a Charge TTI and AA maglite in it for the entire time I had it

Tale of Knives is incredibly expensive, though high quality. If you think you might want that style and don't want to commit, try searching for Diodrio, GentleStache, or EasyAnt on Amazon.
I got a belt holster from Diodrio and a pocket organizer from EasyAnt. It's not the level of quality that $150 will get you, but they punch far above what you'd expect in their price band.

Don’t know if links are allowed so grab it while it’s here. They’re $15 so a little cheaper.
I posted a review of it the other day clip link . It's from an amazon seller. There are like 10 different styles.
https://www.amazon.ca/Victorinox-Ratchet-Swisstool-Spirit-Multi-Tool/dp/B004UOOZ6M
thats the one I'm thinking of....
its literally just a 1/4 ratchet, with a bit driver on the bottom, super similar to the one I linked in original thread
I always just use this as my bit solution for my victorinox knives and swiss tools. I have a different one that works with 1/4" bits but the bit kit is so compact
Does it have to be a Leatherman?
I've been contemplating a SOG lately as a backup to my Juice S2. I'm not sure you'll get any closer to the CS4 than the SOG PowerLitte, but while they can it a "mini" multi tool, I'm not exactly sure of dimensions.
For $30, the Work Sharp Field Sharpener is pretty highly regarded and simple enough to use. I'm far from a pro but I get satisfactory results using one on most of my knives. It probably shouldn't be your only sharpening system, but I've gotten by with it until recently.
$22.50? I better be getting a blowjob from a top-tier prostitute and a gold Rolex for that price!
Did see it for $15 on Amazon though. Think it's the same one https://www.amazon.com/Leatherman-Bit-Driver-Extender-Silver/dp/B0022G72BK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1546467732&sr=8-1&keywords=bit+driver+extender+leatherman
Recently I bought a new leather pouch for my Leatherman surge on Amazon, https://www.amazon.com/Gentlestache-Leatherman-Multitool-Organizer-Flashlight/dp/B08CZ171Y9/ref=pd_sbs_1?pd_rd_w=Wf6NW&pf_rd_p=b65ee94e-1282-43fc-a8b1-8bf931f6dfab&pf_rd_r=F9M2WBPWGFV2ECGV8BQ9&pd_rd_r=986112d9-4b5f-41a5-80e5-6f4336e08fce&pd_rd_wg=BBFge&pd_rd_i=B08CDB1C5R&th=1, have wore it on my side for over 3 weeks and have love the product, I carry a Streamlite Strion as well with the multitool, easy to push up out of the pouch but retains both very well, I work in and out of LEO vehicles doing installations and haven't had any issues, plus I wear it off work time, just my opinion
Just slide it to the right, don't try to pick up the thumb tab when opening it. Makes it wayyyy easier. Pro tip as well: unless you want to carry it with the saw blade installed, trash that thing, store the file in the holder, and stick a pair of good jigsaw blades in the holder. I carry two of these and these
And yes, I second the bit kit if you deal with stuff where you need the extra bits. If you're already carrying a surge the extra ounce or two is no big deal
Is it the Spyderco Tri-Angle (https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B000Q9C4AE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_95XsFb8P681Q6)
Ide rather get something that's more versatile. You think this would be all I need to maintain my pocket knives and kitchen knives?
Honestly the standard leatherman case sucks imo. I’ve noticed when it carries the bit kit it likes to sag, and I don’t like having someone swinging and sagging on my hip. My solution to this was to get a molded leather sheath for my surge, and a separate case for the bit.
This sheath is amazing. I have carried my surge in this thing for over a year and it’s truly so comfortable. Doesn’t jam you in the hip or back while sitting, doesn’t swing around, and is extremely thin. I’ve literally payed down after a long day of work and fallen asleep without noticing it was there before. I can’t recommend this enough:
As for the bit kit, I wanted something in a similar profile, but something I could take off my belt. Turns out keeping your bits in a case like this is great when you need to use an assortment of bits at once, as it comes off easy and is perfect for setting on a bench, pavement, whatever right next to you. It also doesn’t hang, slide around, or rattle. There’s also a spring in there so if you pull out one side of the bit kit the other stays in snug. I’ve edc’d this for over two years and it’s a game changer. Sent an amazon link but the maker has a website, it’s just one dude who makes these and if you like it, he also makes surge cases with a very similar design. You seriously can’t go wrong with any of this guys stuff. And one last though, this case is small, so even if you carry the surge and the bit kit separate, it won’t take up hardly any space.
RAE GEAR sheath Compatible with Leatherman BIT KIT + EXTENDER (1.5" BELT CLIP) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WSCQKRW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_h6ThEbJ3F9AA5
Maxpedition single mag pouch. Leatherman makes a 'bit kit' that comes with 20 different double sided bits, but I've read that they aren't exactly the best quality metal. I believe other brands make bits out of a stronger material that will still fit a Leatherman, so I'm still doing my research on who makes a better set.
https://www.amazon.com/Leatherman-934870-Bit-Kit/dp/B0002H49D0 There's the link to the Leatherman brand one. If that's the sort of thing you're looking for.
I'd imagine you can get just the flathead/Phillips bit separately as well.
*Edit: comes with 21 bits
Sorry, I should have said that I don't have the Leatherman attached to my keys. It just sits in my pocket. However, I do have an S-Biner for one set of my keys that I can quickly take off. It's metal and has a locking function. It is one of these small ones: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FIX12AG
I use a system similar to this , there's something similar (McGizmo?) made out of stainless if you don't like plastic.
I don't carry the Dime on my keys though, mine is just thrown into a pack somewhere.
Maybe a Leatherman Style?
Cap Crimper
Oops, guess things changed since I last paid attention to Leatherman's website:
This is the one that I am referring to https://www.amazon.com/Leatherman-Multi-Tool-Crimper-Black-Sheath/dp/B019EN7X0I/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1473293320&sr=8-3-fkmr1&keywords=leatherman+black+wave+cc
Unfortunately, I literally just bought another one after making this album.
Its the Leather Z-Rex emergency tool. Figured it would be a good thing to keep in my car. The likelihood is that I'll never even use it (seatbelt cutter and glass smasher) however you can never be too prepared.
