I wouldn't put him in anything smaller than this. He's bigger than a budgie and they are very active. Buy him lots of toys and rotate them out. Switch his branches around too every time you fully clean the cage
Get natural branches from trees. The dowels that come w these cages are not good for their feet.
It's a common practice! You could also hard boil the eggs so they don't break messily if dropped, but if you get some fake eggs you could reuse them indefinitely!

Not sure if you can get them from there in your country, but maybe you can find somewhere that isn't too expensive. Research it a bit and compare quality, if you are interested :)
The seller is very knowledgeable & her instructions alone worth the price.
Lovely birb! Although birds do love seeds, this should not be their diet. They are too fatty for them, and will give damage their liver in the long term.
They need to eat fresh veggies and fruits everyday, and dry pellets as food. Seeds should be given as a treat.
What is a dry pellets? I post some Amazon links (please don't buy from Amazon, if you can support a local parrot shop even online):
You are always welcome to ask here I this sub.
If your worried about hormonal issues and as someone else mentioned with crop impact and your bird getting caught in some lose string they might’ve ripped up (which btw might not just be a neck but a toe/foot) I recommend a bird heater! I got this for my female https://www.amazon.com/Pet-Products-Snuggle-Warmer-Medium/dp/B00CLA19BQ/ref=asc_df_B00CLA19BQ/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=167143095066&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=12717809042776063222&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hv...
Made a difference in cranky moods and just eating stray string. Also if it’s cold during the day, even in the summer where I cannot control how low the AC is mine has the choice to hang by their heater. If you take it away their new sleeve nest they might be cranky but they will get over it, I personally think it’s a better option as someone who used to use “cozy huts”
Okey, no problem. I have seen you got Amazon in Egypt. I have found this toys:
For a cage look for parrots cages, get a square one and the biggest one you can get.
Also, for perches you can use branches from outisde trees. Just make sure to wash them and dry them before giving it to your birds.
I can help you more if you wish. You can do this, you can improve the life of your birds, and afterwards show us the results. And we will cheer you!
Think of you were going to be in a bar cage, no floor, just bars, no toys, no space. It's quite bad isn't it? It's the same for your birds.
I know this is not awesome news because it is still seeds, but my birds have been ignoring for years all the seeds of the seed mix except for millet, and I got this toy some days ago and I just saw one eating sunflower seeds, I will add more pellets to see if I have luck.
Metal cages are expensive, but they are worth it in the long run.
This cage is $100, it's relatively cheap for a bigger cage.
Looks fine to me. If you are worried maybe get some special braches. I got one with pores that helps trimming nails and beak and is less agressive that sandy perches or similar. https://www.amazon.es/Living-World-Perchas-Cemento-Pedi-Perch-Mini/dp/B0002DGYXW/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?crid=1MSTHXZC1647Z&keywords=percha+lima+u%C3%B1as&qid=1659345857&sprefix=percha+limau%2Caps%2C113&sr=8-4
My lovebirds extended their family this year too. I had ordered formula and syringes to have available incase they were neglectful; fortunately they were amazing parents
The first two weeks are going to be a challenge. They need to be fed like every two hours - that’s why even hand fed babies are usually left with mom and dad for the first 10-12 days
I wish you the best of luck
No cage is cat proof, to start off. Its not a ‘try to keep the cat out of the room’ its a ‘keep the cat out of the room’. One scratch and your bird is dead within 48h, one lick and death is a high probability within the week. I really need you to understand that.
As for cages, this one or this. I’m not american so I can’t see the costs, but assuming since you didn’t clarify what country you’re from, you’re probably US. You could probably find these secondhand a bit cheaper if you waited it out, but you’d also have to be sure to properly sanitize any secondhand cage.
If you are concerned about leaving the windows open, I got my lovebird what I call her “warm wall” and she loves it. She is in a room that gets colder at night than the rest of the house. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09NKB8MF1/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_api_i_KDGJABH6S1C4F2RFWJ2R
I have theselocking dish
I use something like this Prevue Pet Products BPV1218 2-Pack Winged Bird Feeding Cage Plastic Cup, Large, Colors Vary https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002DJ5T2/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_FDDV18D8GVV98H5GTZZ9?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
The way its designed makes it impossible to flip over completely.
I use levoit! This is the one I have, it’s gone up a bit i price dueing the pandemic ): but I like it.
I’d check out Amazon/chewy or some other sites, but something like this should be pretty good. A bigger vertical cage is nice cause it lets them hop around from different perches at different levels
She may just be adjusting to her new home. are there any toys she shows interest in? How old is she?
I’d say leave the cage door open but you mentioned it’s difficult to do that. Do the doors not stay open? I think it’s a good idea to get her out and let her explore in a bird proofed setting after a couple of days in her new setting.
Was she a rescue or did you get her from a breeder/pet store? If she was a rescue she may be skittish of humans due to past experiences. Sounds like she’s still getting used to you, which is normal. Treats and talking to them helps a bunch. My bird loves music too. Birds are very loud creatures, so definitely not uncommon for her to Chirp in the way you describe (especially if you leave the room - I read online once that they do this to “call for their flock mates” - so she may think you are part of her flock)
Overall it sounds like she may just be getting used to her new setting. She will get more comfortable over time, but keep an eye on her behavior definitely. Is she eating/drinking regularly?
I would do some research to see what the best fit is for your budget. But would recommend something like this or this. The key is to make sure there is enough space for them to move around and keep themselves stimulated. Otherwise they could get bored/depressed, which can lead to a lot of other issues.
I’ve never owned a budgie, but from what I gather lovebirds are a bit more demanding.
If you put seeds and pellets in food dish, he will not touch pellets. I converted my lovebird to pellets very easy. I just ate pellets in front of her. She is curious ofc and joined to eat too. Only this worked for me. After few days removed seeds completely. Same with fruits , but no success with vegetables.
btw, she like tropican lifetime formula https://www.amazon.ca/Hari-Tropican-Lifetime-Formula-Granules/dp/B019GUV7T2
Maybe give him a place to hang out

I’m not a very experienced owner but I have this cage with one bird and I really like it: Yaheetech Roof Top Large Flight Parakeet Parrot Bird Cage with Rolling Stand for Parakeets Cockatiels Lovebirds Finches Canaries Budgie Conure Small Parrot Bird Cage Birdcage https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PCM2HZG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_boRUFbRWXJ965?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I will second the issue with the dowels. My bird doesn’t even like to use them at all. It’s the last thing it will choose to stand on.
Invest in a good quality cage. Don’t get one of those small collapsible cages. If you can’t afford a good cage then you can’t afford a bird. I have this cage for my two lovebirds. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001NJ0DAE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_AB.TFb9RGVPAN
Try to look for a cage that is long rather than tall. Tall skinny cages don’t give them much room to fly.
These are the ones I use, they suction to the walls in my shower about waist high, parrotlet and lovebird love them:

My success story has been first with Bird Street Bistro. This takes the heavy lifting out of the routine. I portion everything in 1/4 and follow the cooking instructions. Store a few days worth in the fridge, freeze the rest.
My lovebird, Jellybean, goes absolutely bonkers for this stuff. It's fun for me to cook too, smells great, and is part of our daily routine.
Portion Illusions: Use 1 or 2 tablespoon portions, then mix in your own cut fresh veggies, finally mix in foraging elements. This creates the illusion of a very large portion, your lovebirds will pick through the things they like. Eventually you will catch them trying new things. Chop your own stuff up very finely, as they forage through they will eventually run into the things you want them to enjoy.
Edit: Also think about your strategy here. Imagine someone was trying to have you try a new food. Would you like it if they held the food next to your face? Probably not. Let them investigate and approach these new items themselves, you'll have better luck.
My Jelly from the hatch has been non-stop into anything I'm eating. In her defense she at some times needs to wait for the parrotlet to finish. Bird food, when out and about can be a gaurded treasure 🤕
Trying to shout this wherever I can, but bird bistro has saved me in many ways. There isn't a day that goes on anymore without fresh chop. It is really amazing stuff, Jelly can't get enough of it. It's fun, it smells good, its partially responable for my parrotlets plucking / self mutilation recovery process. It lasts a LONG time, if servings are cut in 4ths, refrigerator or frozen.
This isnt going to keep your Jelly from getting into your plunder but it will keep nutrients where she needs it in between.
go on amazon, they got it all. We won't find a better selection. I have two that I connected.

Amazon, I believe I looked up bird playgrounds and this one was less than $20. Definitely a good investment, they use it every day.
You can arrange it different ways, take it apart, and rearrange it. It's easy to clean, natural materials and the perfect size to sit on the coffee table so they can join me while I watch TV. I'll see if I can find a link to this one that I bought.
Edit: okay I found it but it's currently unavailable 🙁
Hopefully they get it back in stock.
