The basic 23andme test is regularly $99. Sometimes they go on sale (for example) for $69. That's all you need. You can run the raw data through geneticgenie.org for free and get your SNP report, although they do ask for a donation. There are others that charge a minimal fee. I think Promethease is $5, but you really only need what genetic genie provides.
I have very similar symptoms except not putting any weight on at all. I have been diagnosed with SIBO too. Do you have any suggestions on someone like me who has MTHFR problems (MTHFR rs1801133 A / A and MTHFR rs1801131 T / T) to get to the point where you are with no symptoms?
I take an:
L-Methylfolate quite low dose not sure if I need more
And 250mg of L-Gluthiathone
Do these dosages and forms seem ok to you? Can you give me any general advice?
Sorry for all the questions :P Thanks for reading

Not OP, I love this brand and it’s affordable with no added ingredients:
BulkSupplements.com Potassium Citrate (500 Grams - 1.1 lbs - 1818 Servings) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LMOIBDU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_B9IzFb7R1R6VQ
Start small, get a 100 mg dosing spoon and take teeny doses at 25 mg bc potassium is easy to overdo.
I feel your pain. I had similar issues for decades. You might have other health problems than just MTHFR. I recommend you read this book and experiment with different treatments until you find something that works. Good luck!
Hey i take this:
Looks to be Hydroxycobalamin for the b12.
Just as a fucking heads up though, Methyl Folate and Methyl B-12 literally made my brain fog so bad I was borderline unable to form coherent sentences. Based on some reading I did apparently with MTHFR you can still be an over methylator or an under methylator. Based on that just as a test i swapped to non-methylated forms and boom the symptoms went away completely.
Not sure if its fixing my underlying health issues yet, but at the very fucking least i'm no longer dealing with extreme brain fog.
I'm using this.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0041RBW1E/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Has a small amount of methyl b-12 too. I've never figured out why methyl b12 does not bother me like other methyl donors do.
I'd be worried about all the unnecessary additives/binders/fillers. Having a methylation issues from my knowledge means having less is more for us. Sadly it's hard to find much out there that doesn't, but you can check these out. My mutation is different than yours so take that for what it is.
Here's my suggestion, totally your call. Also methylating too fast is usually not good, so low and slow in most scenarios is best. Just thought I'd offer up my insights because most people don't understand the sensitivities of unclogging the pipes too quick can cause adverse reactions.
Awesome, thank you for this. I do take a zinc supplement that includes some copper in it. 30 mg zinc, 300mcg copper.
I suppose i'll leave the folate levels and b12 alone for now since theyre both not low.. b12 even being high and out of range.
The choline would explain why eggs had given me very odd episodes, though.
I do not know if this will help you but thought I would hare anyway.

Yea this is very similar to my profile. Had to cut out folic acid "fortified" foods. I eat a lot of veggies and meat now but avoid a lot of the grains since they're always fortified with folic acid. And my anhedonia went away, I'm actually enjoying life. I take a Methyl Folate vitamin now https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MQJVHHC and it's made a world of difference.
Thank you for all the help! I really appreciate this. 🙏
I'm in the process of starting Nutrient Power -- Do you feel it's a good resource?
I think I heard years ago that COMT -/- and VDR taq +/+ was a double whammy combo for low dopamine -- Which I hypothesize for years is a core issue for me.
Do you happen to have any insight or known resources about that?
I took one of these: https://www.amazon.com/Thorne-Research-Vitamin-Supplement-Capsules/dp/B00FY8IQ7C And two of these: https://www.amazon.com/Integrative-Therapeutics-B-Complex-Bitartrate-Production/dp/B00CFD0TC4 Every day.
Honestly I don’t feel that much better now compared to before I started, but I’m not sure if my issues are related to MTHFR. My symptoms are issues with gut and lack of appetite. I had lost a pregnancy in the third trimester which is how I found out I’m homozygous 677. But maybe my homocysteine was never that high to begin with? This is my first time testing it.
This is the one that was recommended to me by my Dr when I got the genetic test for MTHFR https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MQJVHHC in regards to diet, I just avoid anything with folic acid that's not veggies or fruits. Like enriched flour or wheat or pasta that they put folic acid into is gonna be bad. Other than that I'm fine diet wise.
You can try calcifediol. This ia a form witch doesn't need conversion to active metabolite and many people have succes with it.

IMO a GI panel is worth the cost - it will tell you for sure what is going on in your gut. I had really low iron levels and folate when I had h pylori.
I would double check your genes in this book regarding celiac. I had my GP genetic test me but it came back negative despite me having strong reactions to gluten. I had previously done an elimination diet and the first time I ate gluten after 30 days I broke out in extreme ankle pain. Anyways, fast forward 8 years of being gluten free and I don't have the joint pain anymore but an emotional reaction if I accidentally eat it now. I looked at the genes around celiac and while I'm typical for the two they tested, I have risk alleles in 4 of the 8 other points mentioned in the book.
Depending on what your microbiome is probiotics can be beneficial or detrimental as we are usually deficient in soil based pb. A GI panel can tell you what you've got going on in there bacteria wise. Not all bacteria (h pylori, SIBO etc) will respond to a typical parasite cleanse.

Have you tried knocking out inflammatory triggers in your diet like gluten and dairy? These cross react with autoimmune diseases and lead to joint pain/stiffness and also cause a lot of brain fog. It takes a while (months +) to clear out of your system and reset.
With regards to the surgery, perhaps it caused some low grade inflammation as well?
MAO ++ could be the reason for the suicidal thoughts. This book has some good information on it and describe a lot of those symptoms:
I’ve had good results with Seeking Health’s Optimal Multivitamin Minus One it has Folinic and Hydro/Adeno b12
There is betaine in beets. I have seen a few docs online recommend beet chews.
B12 optimally should be in the top quarter of the blood range. You had a reaction to methyl B12 because you have both the COMT and CBS gene variants. You need the adeno/hydroxy combination form of B12 instead.
Have you looked into this product:
I have the mthfr gene and I take the recommended amount a day. I just started so I haven't noticed any histamine reactions for the better or worse, but I'm hoping...
Have a look at the product, it may or may not work for you. They may work because I feel like they burn out of my body faster than the capsules. It really comes down to this:

Hey! I'm sorry I can't help you with a single thing yet - I'm a few weeks away from getting my own genetics result.
Your symptoms are spot on with mine except for the extreme intolerance to lactose & alcohol. Did your brain fog also get better with SNRI? I've struggled with the fog forever and the Methyl folate has a liiiiittle effect on me, but far from optimal.
One thing regarding the Methyl Folate, I have no effect on the general Methyl Folate supplement. I have to use the ones using the quatrefolic formula, like this one.
I take this b complex from Thorne once per day. It may be too much for some people, as I hear that many here don't do well with too much methylfolate. Too much doesn't bother me.
I've found that Jarrow brand is very low quality and taking their methylcobalamin made me feel like crap.
You need the full b complex to have energy. I like this product.
Also make sure you're reading food labels and avoiding any food with folic acid.
You may want to look into how you were taking them. I recently started taking Methyl B-12 for instance and discovered that it's best to let it dissolve under your tongue or behind you lips to allow the B-12 the be absorbed into your blood more directly than through digestion. Depending on the vitamins you were taking you may have not been seeing any benefit because of improper intake. Obviously what I talked about only works with sublingual forms. I'd recommend this one if you're curious for B-12.
Sorry I'm not OP lol, but thanks for the response! I respond very well to TMG/B12/P5P. Is it ok to take tmg forever?. I'm homozygous for A1298C. Also do you happen to know what is the best form of active thiamine? I ordered this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000K96XPC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glc_fabc_3C3SCNFXDKSF0H2CT468

Thanks! Life saver over here! That's what I had assumed I just wanted to verify that the folinic was not a donor. Gonna grab the iherb drops for the folinic.
Any idea about a Adenosyl/Hydroxy vs the straight Hydroxy? Trying to decide what pill to go with out of these. Prefer the non chewable. But I have heard B12 is better absorbed sublingual?
It was a jarrow B12 Complex so like 400mcg https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0016003Z0/
I guess the 2 specific things im low on folate and B12 would be best to take separate and isolate. Any idea what sorta dosage I should look for in the forms you reccomended?
I had a psychiatrist recommend I take SAMe supplements. Amazon link here. I used this to successfully transition off of lexapro (which I cannot metabolize properly and was causing all sorts of problems). I've found it to be very effective.
You're absolutely right about sugar. We don't realize until we go off it for a while.
Here's the supplement that I take. I've never had problems with it but if you want to start small, cut the capsule in half and try that.
Vitamin D3 makes me literally insane with anxiety. I've tested it dozens of times, each time with the exact same insane anxiety effect.
So, recently I tried D2, and no apparent negative reaction. You seem to even react to that.
On amazon.com you can get plant based D2 made from yeast and D2 made from mushrooms.
Perhaps one or the other might work for your body chemistry.
And if neither, then just get outside in the sun.
Creatine monohydrate (powder). There are other forms that probably work but I'm using what all the studies have been based on.
Amazon Brand - Solimo Creatine Monohydrate Powder, Unflavored, 5G per serving, 80 Servings https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HRGJP28/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_y1-ZEb6ZNHPBB
The supplements increase cell growth, so you can induce the same type of panic attack by just breathing and exhaling more deeply for 15-20 minutes. You'll feel your face get tingly and then when you stop to breath normally you'll get the same type of panic attack as taking these supplements and waking up the next morning. I've tried the supplements. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007LEO3OW/ The whole thing seems so expensive. Like when do you stop taking them? How do you know if they are not causing some other adverse effect? Since I get the same panic attack with these means I then have to take some other supplement.
I bet Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor is some type of CRISPR baby that is free from things like MTHFR.
I’m having some trouble making sense of my report. I ordered a recommended supplement on amazon (Thorne Research - Methyl-Guard Plus - Methylation Support Supplement with 5-MTHF (Folate) and Vitamins B2, B6, and B12 - 90 Capsules https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00O5AHC4S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Pdz7CbY7XJ2JG) but now I’m wondering if it was the right thing to get. If anyone has any insight, it would be very much appreciated! Some symptoms that might be relevant are fatigue, anxiety/OCD, depression, skin bruising, acne, and hormonal issues.
>And did you stop the b12 as well when you stopp
I was using methyl-cobalamin.
I think I stopped about the same time as I did the methyl-folate. I was using Quadrefolic I do believe.
https://www.amazon.com/ProHealth-Methylfolate-Quatrefolic-Capsules-Professional/dp/B0725HPR77/ref=sr_1_43?keywords=methylfolate&qid=1556212181&s=gateway&sr=8-43

Just try this one today, half a pill, no effect for now, will try the dosage you suggest, thanks again!
> I also can only tolerate methyl b12 in very low doses.
I have an order of this coming in tomorrow: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MQJVHHC/
Do you think it would be best to try it and see how I feel? After ordering it, I learned that some people are either over-methylating or under-methylating. My concern is the 1000mcg of Folate. I'm almost wondering if I should have had more tested before ordering the supplement. Like finding out where my B-vitamin levels are as well as methylation efficiency.
With that said, I couldn't find any alarming reviews of the product of anyone who had bad reactions.
> Health Optimal Prenatal
Thank you so much, but that ended up having too much iron for me. I'll be taking SmartyPants gummies and supplementing B12 on top.
