MVIS LBS: Blur Free Capture of Moving Objects
Jari Honkanen, speaking in the context of LiDAR says the following (obviously the capacity it is not just limited to automotive applications):
"The same sensor can perform either very fast lower resolution scan or slower high resolution scan, depending on the application and driving situation), and low persistence (scanned laser system enables blur-free capture of moving objects)."

You guys see the situation playing out over at Qualcomm/Magna/Veoneer?
They have a bidding war situation on their hands. Hopefully our turn is soon.

Nice how when discussing the technologies required for sensor fusion (camera, radar and lidar), he emphasizes the critical need for lidar capable of high accuracy (0.1 degree resolution) and low latency, specs which he says current lidar "startups" haven't yet met. Around time 5:20, he says what's needed is lidar that can provide 20M points per second with a frame rate of 60 frames per second (of roughly 300,000 points), specs familiar to all here. See for example slide 22 of this 2017 MVIS presentation.
IMO we're witnessing a new age of Facebook... we are watch them transform into a hardware company (technically with the Quest 2, they are a hardware company).
What they achieved recently with their Oculus Quest 2 making it consumer viable at $299 USD are signs to come if they can get their hands on Microvision's IP for the Augmented Reality space and secure MVIS' designs for their future AR headset.
I'm about halfway through the book "The History of the Future" which chronical the history and acquisition of OculusVR and Facebook and boy oh boy... anybody who wants Microvision is going to have a fight on their hands from Mark Zuckerberg.

Here's another: Consumer Reports has long advocated that forward-collision warning (FCW) and automatic emergency braking (AEB) come standard on all vehicles, recognizing it as a significant feature capable of saving lives, reducing injuries, and protecting property.
I am posting Apple's recent iOS 12 update link below, to highlight the developing ecosystem supporting MVIS tech. Even though this specific update is more likely aimed at the apps being pushed onto their Apple Store, this official AR/VR recognition is part of the "wake-up" call to all the lovely market forces. Check out the "Measure" feature they pushed to your phone too...the world is slowly gearing up to fully accommodate MicroVision's tech!
Dsaur, here's the quote from the CC: "Let's examine each one starting with for revenue. We anticipate another year of significant revenue growth in 2017. Although, we’re not given revenue guidance for this year. At this time, we announced plans to begin selling our new LBS engine starting second quarter of this year. We anticipate the revenue from this line of business to be in the range up $30 million $60 million in the 12 to 18 months following the mass production shipment of the first engine. We expect that 2017 revenue from these new products to be weighted towards the second half of the year. And as I mentioned this revenue does not include other sources, development contracts and others." http://seekingalpha.com/article/4052353-microvisions-mvis-ceo-alex-tokman-q4-2016-results-earnings-call-transcript?part=single
I think the screenshot someone posted a few days back regarding the short interest explains pretty well what caused the climb to $24 and back down.
There was no change in fundamentals back then, it was simply shorts covering for whatever reason. What seems to be different regarding the fundamentals this time are "the missing Oz files", Farhi+Westgor leaving, the IVAS news and the fact that it is mid April and everyone suspects a new PR soon.
If someone thought this company was a good buy on the climb to $24 I really don't understand what would make him/her question the company now...
UnrealEngine also supports Hololens Streaming, which is what they were trying to show off at Microsoft Build with the Apollo 11 landing demo.

Don't agree. Just like car companies who showcase future products, Amazon could have done the same, beginning even at a slower process, begin a new product launch. Bezos thinks he has MicroVision by the #$%@&, he is mistaken because Google, Micrsoft, and Samsung and others could now easily carry the ball since the engineering is so far along. Amazon blew it. And don't forget that the tech can be used in XBox. Simulation games are huge.
N{A}SA, DoD and others have been busy denying the existence of intelligent life throughout the universe ("Unacknowledged" https://www.netflix.com/title/80171742) all while diverting and spending $Trillions on 'off budget' Black Budget and Special Acess Programs having to do with a variety of very advanced technologies.
Is that conjecture, or definitive? I got the impression that the 30-60M was from the co-marketing on LBS engines, and that the ODM deal was directly related to the co-marketing agreement of LBS engines, as stated in the PR below.
Alex said on the Q3 call: " In fact, we anticipate that sales of new engines could contribute between 30 million to 60 million within the first 12-18 months following the availability of the first mass product units."
He also said: "Basically we believe we’re going to have two primary sources of revenue, one is coming from Sony, the other one is coming from the new line of LBS engines."
I guess it's vaguely-enough stated that I'd like to get confirmation from the horse's mouth.
"The Bosch representative at the Hannover Messe also explained that the Sony module is much too expensive to manufacture because of the enormous effort SNE and MVIS are putting in for optics and other details (like active calibration). He also stated that barring some technical details, the LBS technology is not patent-protected anymore. So, probably Bosch can sell the module without paying any license fees to Microvision as maybe STM already has done so."
i think that Bosch sales guy doesn't know what he is talking about.

Seeking Alpha released a PR also. I don't like them, but I will take good news when it comes.
This gives a good insight into their investment strategy. Still listening myself.... but they are heavily invested in Israel. $MVIS connections there? Didn’t Primesense start there?
I find that doing an image search on some of those terms helpful in trying to figure out what this all actually looks like. From all I can tell, most 3D sensing setups sometimes require 2 units set some distance apart. And looking at the various other solutions, I could see how MVIS would be the only one small enough to get inside a cellphone.

Yes. (I'm kinda working my way thru your data points in my own way). That's a very long and broad list of applications talked about in there.
The only two we actively see them pursuing at the moment is interactive video projection and LIDAR.
Now, is that because they are resource constrained (which is clearly true, and we just got another example of it on Thursday) and they think those are the two lowest hanging fruit for them?
Or is it because they already made arrangements with STM and/or Sony to ring the cash register on the others, and these two are just the ones they think they need to kick-start themselves?
Those cost about 15 shares! Lol

Hey this is cool! I have nothing to add whatsoever for German film, I even looked up German cinema on wiki to see what notable films came out of Germany and if I’ve ever watched any. Looking forward to 2q filing season being over so my wife and I can watch some together. :)
I can add a super cool book my wife bought me when we were at college though! The Fantamagoriana a collection of ghost stories and horror (originally in German) that Mary Shelly, Lord Byron, Dr John Polidori etc. all read together at the Villa Diodati that inspired Frankenstein, the Vampyre, etc.
The UO Smart Beam Laser Ad, on Amazon, no longer says Sony's or Celluon's name in regard to the remark about laser danger. It just uses initials now (S and C). Someone but the kibosh on that one. There are currently 3 portable laser projectors in the world: SK Telecom's UO Smart Beam Laser and other S and C brand that use technology very similar to that of an electron gun. One can see through a camera lens, electron beam wave flowing on the projected image like an analog TV. This laser beam can cause serious harm to human eye.

I think you mentioned that you can see a neighbor's wifi if you do a scan? Download a wifi analyzer app and check that you and your neighbor are not on the same wifi channel. That can cause slowdowns, and the default setting on many routers is channel 6. You should be able to change the channel on your router setup page.
I use this one, it's free:

I was actually thinking of buying 3 more and setting it up in EBAIP (Edge Blended Array of Inexpensive Projectors. You know, like RAID. No it's not really a thing, I just made that up.)
It would be ~21W (3 × ~7W) for a 720p-ish picture. But that's not the reason why. If you set up the projectors to shoot through mirrors on gimbals like Dynamic Projection you can "cover" even more space. For things like dribbble.com/Radium except more retro-cyberpunk. Bind them together in edge-blended mode to project a movie, break them apart to project floating critters, information from your assistant, educational content etc.
That's weird... Did you install latest version of YALP (version 0.32) and also F-DROID?

Apple frenzy is heating up. Here are two articles I found this morning.
>Have you given any thought to what the per unit royalty might be in such a scenario?
Ok. Here's a data point to consider.
Go to slide 18 in this Yole presentation.
The slide predicts that ToF and Structured Light will dominate in consumer applications. We have already heard that MVIS can do both simultaneously and STM's device for Apple employs both.
At slide 18, look at the price per performance (resolution) values for ToF and Structured light.
Now, consider that, according to slide 19 in MVIS' presentation (https://www.slideshare.net/MicroVision/mems-laser-scanning-the-platform-for-next-generation-of-3d-depth-sensors), MVIS reportedly can do both ToF and SL and at resolutions many times greater than the alternatives, in fact greater than the sweet spot for consumer devices assumed by slide 18 in the Yole presentation above.
Incidentally, the bottom left corner of slide 16 is also worth looking at.
Plenty of photogrammetry apps out there, not sure how accurate they are with larger objects though. I use the SCANN3D mobile app for scanning in objects/environments for 3D printing. Then you can import it into your 3D modeling program(or directly into your splicing program, theoretically) as an STL/OBJ file. In my experience, it takes quite a bit of cleaning up afterwards. I know iOS has a really popular app called Canvas(ipad only), but I don't have any experience with photogrammetry on Apple products.
it looks like a router tbh especially with the bright blue ethernet cable sticking out of it.. unless it's something else like a blue USB cable... but I'd imagine the plugs should be coming out of the other end, no?

Fire TV Cube Voice Control Compatibility
“With Alexa on Fire TV Cube, you can control tens of thousands of devices including TVs, sound bars, A/V receivers, and cable and satellite boxes from popular brands like Samsung, VIZIO, Sony, LG, Yamaha, DIRECTV, DISH, Comcast, Spectrum, and more through the cloud, infrared (IR), and HDMI-CEC. Alexa can also control compatible smart home devices like lights, locks, thermostats, and more through the cloud. However certain devices, like projectors, HDMI switches/hubs, and universal remotes (like Logitech Harmony) are not compatible with Fire TV Cube. Also some devices have limitations with voice control of certain functions, such as input switching.”
Soooooo....it’s compatible with nearly everything but a projector? Why would that be?
Well......the next generation Cube may have its own built-in interactive projector to enhance AI capability, which will dramatically increase consumer interaction and monetization opportunities.

For some context on how far Microvision has come with their R&D efforts. Refer to the below Microvision powerpoint presentation from 2017.
It has obviously taken four years of hard work to accomplish all of these "wish list" parameters

I would also gamble that Thors assessment that the phrase “third generation” was a misrepresentation and was intended to address the imminent release of HoloLens 2.
Epic Games is on board and they are likely working on an Epic branded headset with Microsoft’s engineering support (and MVIS) and it WON’T be “years” before its introduced. I would expect next year. Remember Alex Kipman’s comment....anybody can build a HoloLens.

Just trying to prove you're full of shit .
Here is the quote you have completely misinterpreted .
"Nreal filed a motion to dismiss the case in December, arguing that Magic Leap was simply looking to get rid of a competitor. In her conversation with Protocol, Lyu suggested that Nreal ultimately had a different approach toward AR than Magic Leap, which had spent significant capital on trying to solve hard visual computing challenges, like developing its own waveguide technology."
It's Magic Leap that developed it's own waveguide not Nreal .

Hi Voice - This could very well be broker specific. At my broker (Schwab), GTC orders are limited to regular market hours. I can trade pre/post market, but I believe the only order types accepted are limit orders for the particular pre/post session in which they are placed. - even though I can trade pre/post market. Here are the Schwab rules... you may want to find the similar info for your broker.

Now, say you had a standing GTC limit sell order and it was only good during regular market hours, like me. Before market open, the "big news" hit. At 9:30, upon market open, I believe your order would execute as part of the daily opening auction, or opening cross. https://www.nasdaqtrader.com/content/productsservices/trading/crosses/openclose_faqs.pdf

Hi All,
TL;DR: Recumbent bike recommendations for a senior with Parkinson's?
Equipment shopping for my dad who has moderate Parkinson's (stage 3, borderline 4). His doctor suggested consistent physical activity and a recumbent bike seems like it'd be a viable option. Plus, it'll be cold and probably icy in a couple of months where we are, so walks will not be possible soon. The key is that he needs one that doesn't involve a lot of maneuvering to get into the seat. Biggest challenge right now with is condition is turning (has led to falls recently).
I did find one model with a swiveling seat, but that's a bit pricey for something that neither of us are 100% sure he will actually use.

MVIS specs per their website indicate a 15.3 inch diagonal display from a 9.4 inch height. The Amazon unit is higher and it appears that the display module is placed higher to provide the larger display. Height/Display ratios are close but hard to confirm since the Amazon link gives total height. Designs are pretty similar and it appears likely that MVIS is powering it.
Remind me to upgrade your ban hammer when I have a moment.
As good? Nobody. But Sony has launched interactive projectors (surface touch and mid-air gesture). I bought one - the Xperia Touch - for work ($1600 - a silly price). It was... fine. Ten-finger multitouch. You could play Android piano apps on a desktop. We used it for presentations and UX walkthroughs... plus a bit of showmanship. The mid-air gestures were awful and barely worked.
NED? Plenty of other options out there. Whatever Magic Leap or Google Glass (which Sumit knows all about, of course) have been using. Are they better? No. But if WSB pushes the share price to silly levels, I fear a buyout may be impractical and selling at a "nuclear" PPS might be better than holding for buyout (which was my plan until now).

However, if the license is good through 2022 and Mega1 uses that license while being a member of LaSAR, does that not make Microvision a member of LaSAR by extension?
The Mega 1 mobile projector is incredibly easy to use and enables you to project anything from your mobile device. MEGA1-F1 is small and lightweight. Perfectly designed for family, parties, camping, watching videos and even presentations. The maximum projection size is up to 100 inches so its perfect for viewing even in a large room. Designed using Sharp's laser diodes and Micro Vision's MEMS (micro-electro-mechanical) scanning technology so you can be confident in the quality of the MEGA1 Mini Projector.

I found it on Amazon but I've never heard of this company.
This whole situation MVIS is currently going through reminds me of how Phil Knight described what Nike was going through in his book Shoe Dog.
Phil (as a supply chain expert at the time, something PM claims) goes on to describe the battle of managing cash/debt, inventory, and sales.
Instead of piling into debt (in an increasing interest rate environment as you described stu), they're gonna need that cash to get running on ramping up module production imo to service their clients.
This is all speculation until management clarifies a bit more next time on what they intend to use the money for (other than keeping the lights on, i hope).
Found this little app useful when using projector already with Beam 2 and now with Voga V.

(Long press on any orientation profile to activate a persistent background service. (This is useful if your phone seems to exit the locked orientation all of a sudden due to low memory resources))
Fron Karl G February 2, 2017 at 10:18 am Actually the UO Smart Beam Laser (https://www.amazon.com/UO-Smart-Beam-Laser-resolution/dp/B014QZ4FLO) which uses Lasers to illuminate LCOS will also be focus free (have “infinite focus”). I can’t really recommend the UO product because they do a poor job of color balancing (generally red deficient), but their resolution is much higher and they are about 1.5X brighter. I have not measured the color on the Sony projectors, but the color was off (too red) on the Celluon Pico Pro which use a Sony optical engine. I saw UO at CES and they will be coming out with new products this year (hopefully they will fix the color).
Note that most projectors that call themselves “laser,” particularly the ones with over 1000 lumens, use a blue laser to illuminate a phosphor wheel with green (and often red and blue phosphors) on it and are NOT focus free. For marketing reasons t they emphasize the word “laser” but are technically “hybrid laser/phosphor” projectors.
For a few applications, like yours, focus free is necessary. Most of the time you set up a project and the screen and there is no need to change the focus. So in today’s market you can get an much brighter and higher resolution LED based projector with better color for less than half the cost of a laser projector; so unless being focus free is absolutely necessary, the vast majority of people will op for the LED projector.
