Every other filter I have is huge and expensive, but most importantly very effective. I wanted to put a filter on this 50gal so I was just like, "what the hell, let's try." Updates will come in a week or so.

I use PAR 16 screw in mini halogen floods. Bulbrite MR16 (PAR16) EXN/E26 50-Watt
You can also get these in 35 Watts. Use either depending on the enclosure size and distance to basking surface.
Use with a quality thermostat such as Herpstat 2 or above.
try leather pruning gloves ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003BVIPYI/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ); has a long cuff to protect your forearms. they're not particularly expensive; i've had this pair for about two years and it's just now time to replace them.
no need to manhandle them, that's counter productive if you're wearing gloves or not. but there's also no need to get shredded. nobody wants a staph infection.
Thank you, Muzzah27, I've just moved the soil around as the cool side was hard packed and very wet. I dug that up and moved some of it to the hot side, and some of the hot side soil to the cool side, and then just mixed it all up. I hope I haven't disturbed the cleaning crew too much.
What do you think of this? https://www.amazon.com/Light-Daylight-Profile-Ceiling-Workshop/dp/B07F3RTYN1/ref=sr_1_18?keywords=low+profile+led+lights&qid=1553356543&s=gateway&sr=8-18
Thank you for the reply! Shouldn't I be worried about the lights being too close if they're right on the mesh? I'm also trying to figure out how I have two 100 W lights but you are recommending 39 W? I'm pretty sure they are halogen flood lamps, what am I missing? Can you post a link to your recommended bulbs?
I love the name. Obviously people already mentioned worms and substrate are being subpar.
Grow tent will work of any brand. 8x4x6 size will work well. I have used this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07RXPHCSR
Mind you. Grow tent is usually a poor choice for monitor lizard for various reason. If monitor is unhappy there he will shred it to pieces. So at least reinforce walls with bamboo fences and put tons of dirt there, literally. And make it bioactive.
Ideally setup a grow tent and still build a large proper enclosure.
These things are the best! Every year once it starts heating up I get fungus gnats & fruit flies. Just run an extension cord into the top of your enclosure plug it in and let it run 24/7. You'll need some heavy duty x2 sided tape to mount the light. Or use some type of strap to hang the light with.
Good luck!
You may want to look at the fish's nutrient facts.
I'll admit a little high in fat, but overall great food every once in a while.
I also don't understand this they should only eat insects, yes they primarily eat insects in the wild, but I also coat the raw meat in with powder that gives additional vitamins and nutrients.
Also the reason I've feeding him meat rather then insects recently is because I'm currently on disability leave from work, I'm having sever back problems. The checks I'm getting... are very; very small. Meat I can cut up and put in the freezer and will last about 2 months. Insects (apart from Mealworms/Superworms) aren't the cheapest, I just spent $35 on shipping alone for some Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches.
Do not use these. They will shatter. Use PR 16 or PAR 20 flood halogens. Something like these: https://www.amazon.com/Philips-Halogen-Dimmable-PAR20-Flood/dp/B009ZR5AB8/ref=sr\_1\_6?crid=2BQM2UQD1NJV9&keywords=philips+halogen+par16+flood+30+watt&qid=1658815383&sprefix=philips+halogen+par+16+flood+30+watt%2Caps%2C134&sr=8-6

Firstly, You can get normal halogen floodlights intended for household in California still they just have to be energy efficient. The new headlines about (halogen floodlights are outright banned) is incorrect.
EX: you can still buy https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CSHD9T6 in just about any hardware store and also on amazon while living in california.
Secondly, it was a state law and is now a federal law so it's not California specific anymore.
I don't see the issue with requiring light bulb manufacturers to adhere to higher energy saving standards.
Very late response incoming, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014MJ8J2U/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Works very well.
I'll go ahead and comment here, the "cans" are not sharp at ALL. The basking temperature is 120F+ (The bricks are absorbing some of the heat, temp gun is not giving me an accurate reading, without the bricks the temperature was well over 120F+). Ambient temperature is 80F+ (Yup, I adjusted it). I provide all the necessary enrichment for Rex, I coat most of what he eats with these 2 products: Calcium and Vitamins he eats live Crickets, Cockroaches, Superworms, and the occasional rodent, this was his second rodent since I got him. He also eats canned Grasshoppers (illegal to breed and sell here in the U.S), and shrimp. Rex is a baby, that one hide he has is massive, he's built himself 3 burrows in that one hide. Once again Rex is a baby the substrate is plenty deep for him to burrow, he also has a 24/7 supply of clean water.
Bashing me and criticizing me is just free upvotes now.
>There's no way this enclosure is 3'x2'x3', The reptile hide you posted is 8" wide ( https://www.amazon.com/Different-Reptile-Durable-Material-X-Large/dp/B09895SC2Z/ref=sr\_1\_44?keywords=reptile+hides&qid=1638752409&sr=8-44 ) and it's clearly taking up 90% of the width of your enclosure.
The enclosure is 3'x'2'x'3 as for the hide, I bought it from my local reptile store, so that could be the incorrect size.

>You also said you have it in 1 foot of subtrate, which is also a lie because it barely makes it up to the plastic lip of your ZOO MED terrestrial enclosure. And there are currently no zoo med enclosures that currently have glass beneath their doors that high.
This is not a ZOO MED enclosure it's a Repti-Zoo enclosure. I've said this previous post already he has dug himself 3 burrows in that hidey hole of his.

>You also told me previously that your basking temps are 150F, but recently said they are 120F.
I did have basking temperature of 150F but lowered it to 120F as Rex was refusing to bask directly underneath the light, with it being 120F he is now basking directly underneath the light for good 15 minutes until he moves slightly away from the light.

>You're clearly lying to a lot of people
I'm not deliberately lying to people; I've just been making changes to his enclosure to make sure he's happy, which by the way he is. Sure, he is still a scared little baby and runs off as soon as someone walks by, but that's not because of me being a "bad owner" all baby Savannah Monitors are like this. All they see is a potentially giant predator, so they go and hide, and yes, I've taken people's advice when he runs and hides, I DO NOT BOTHER HIM. He has been a lot more active this week, as my camera is showing, coming out more even when people are in the living room (his enclosure is in the living room)
There's no way this enclosure is 3'x2'x3', The reptile hide you posted is 8" wide ( https://www.amazon.com/Different-Reptile-Durable-Material-X-Large/dp/B09895SC2Z/ref=sr_1_44?keywords=reptile+hides&qid=1638752409&sr=8-44 ) and it's clearly taking up 90% of the width of your enclosure.
You also said you have it in 1 foot of subtrate, which is also a lie because it barely makes it up to the plastic lip of your ZOO MED terestrial enclosure. And there are currently no zoo med enclosures that currently have glass beneat their doors that high.
You also told me previously that your basking temps are 150F, but recently said they are 120F.
You're clearly lying to a lot of people about your setup which means you clearly know that what you are doing isn't correct husbandry but you don't care enough to change it. Be better. It's kind of disgusting that someone who is aware of correct husbandry but doesn't offer it will just lie about what they give.
The enclosure looks small, because the hidey hole I bought was much bigger than anticipated.
There are a bunch of different versions.
Also I use a egg carton with holes. I’ll hide dubia in there.
You can also stuff food into a small kong, or a Beardie ball.

I haven't used much LED but a couple crazy bright flashlights. These use those same chip/bulbs.4 foot LED 6 pack under $70!😯
I would recommend something like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B087P2LJ5J/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
A temperature/humidity gauge, two of them, place one on the cool side and one on the hot side to keep track of ambient temp and humidity.
It's a common mistake to think that Ackies live in a dry, desert climate. Australia can get pretty humid, with frequent rainfall. Anything below 50% relative humidity in the hot side can result in shedding issues. It also effects the behavior and health of your Ackie.
I have a 4x2x2 enclosure for my Ackie (that I'm going to replace with a larger one). I need two heat lamps, one directly over the basking spot, which sucks up a lot of heat, and one off to the side of that to help keep the ambient temp of the hot side 100F. You shouldn't be using a ceramic heat emitter or heat pad, unless you live in a place that gets really cold in winter and the substrate temp falls below 70F at night. Then you can have a heat pad outside and under the enclosure that is attached to a temp gauge where it will only turn on if the substrate temp falls below 75F, say. But you probably don't need that at all.
Make sure if you have a screen top to just surround every part of the top that isn't occupied by lights with aluminum foil and tape that all down so it's air tight and no humidity is being lost. That makes a huge difference.
I use two 90W Phillips halogen Flood Lights approximately 2ft from the surface to provide a 145 spot temp and a large gradient surface
how about this monitor?
It's really easy, I just drain it into my toilet and refill. I don't scrub it every day.
Ultima 2 4000 is a sick workhorse of a filter, and I run it on my biggest enclosure. It's amazing how clean it keeps the water. This is in the enclosure I breed in so sometimes there are two adult water monitors using it... The other is: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00F9H6AQ2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_ZCASKPZXHBK1PCZ1T3G9?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
It works well and keeps the water pretty clean. It's not as good as the ultima, but it's about 1/4 of price.
General use halogens are illegal to sell in California. Reptile specific ones are legal, but I prefer general use flood halogens over the spot halogens typically sold in pet shops.
I use a pair of these over a basking spot: https://www.amazon.com/Bulbrite-EXN-E26-50-Watt-120-Volt/dp/B0030B7X42/ref=pd_nav_hcs_rp_3/132-5964076-7659127?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B0030B7X42&pd_rd_r=7c8c87ac-4eea-4346-9d5f-64780412ce2f&pd_rd_w=P2Asj&pd_rd_wg=roQIh&pf_rd_p=...
You can get them in 35 watt or 50 watt. I prefer using the 35 watt but they were out of stock the last time I ordered. You'll have to have them shipped to someone out of state who can then forward them back to you because Amazon will not ship these to California.
Where are you in SoCal? I'm on the west side of LA. I have a couple of spare bulbs I could part with.
That's what I did. You can buy plastic slider w rails on Amazon. I attached an oak board to the open front of the enclosure I had built. I first ripped the board into two pieces, with 1 1/2" for the top and 10" for the bottom. Then I glued the w rails on the edges of the board pieces with 2 part epoxy. Then I put in the glass and let the epoxy set with the glass in place so the rails were lined up properly. I had to be very careful to not get epoxy in the rails or on the glass. I used these rails. https://www.amazon.com/Knape-P2417TAN48-Plastic-Sliding-Track/dp/B000CSK398/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1546371112&sr=8-3&keywords=plastic+guides+for+sliding+glass+door
Yeah, I meant changing out to halogen floods or PAR 16 mini halogen floods. I use these, in 35 watt and 50 watt, because of their low profile and being so small the lizards have no interest in trying to reach for them, and in a string or array of three, which covers an entire basking spot pretty evenly: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0030B7X42/ref=snk_ddb_dp_1_mdpajx?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1&ie=UTF8
Your roughneck is going to be happy there :) Good job!
If you can, just add more climbing to the walls, they love it especially when young. Easy to make out of pet friendly sisal rope.
I bought few rolls on Amazon, cut them in equal 3 pieces each and braided some thick braids, that support even large almost adult quinces.

Sorry, just checking if these are the ones.
One disadvantage to Cat Tree - it is ridiculously expensive for what it is. Get few 2x2s in Home Depot, and pet safe sisal rope from Amazon and manufacture your own :)
I want to be able to tie the top into a knot
All in one basking and UVB is the only one option: Mercury Vapor Bulb. Expensive, and you have to replace often. Could be more effective to run T5 HO bulb for uvb and halogen/halogens for basking.

The 48" ReptiSun one over here is $190.
I've found this, what do you think? $33, not a panel, but an under cabinet mountable light, 6500k, 4000 lumens. https://www.amazon.com/Orilis-Kitchen-Cabinet-Integrated-Fixture/dp/B015OX61EG/ref=sr_1_fkmrnull_3?keywords=led+%226500k+4000+lumens%22+tube+light&qid=1553404954&s=hi&sr=1-3-fkmrnull

The only panels I could find on Amazon that would fit in my enclosure were 6500k, 8000 lumens. Would that be too bright in a 4 x 2 x 2?

I use 20 gallon long tank with some dirt in it and cork barks. Half of it is heated with undertank heat mat sitting on cheap and reliable thermostat set at 85-90F:

They eat cucumber skin shavings, shredded mozzarella cheese, whatever vegetable leftovers from table, salad greens. They are easy to keep.
Yes, those look good.

Spyder Robotics Herpstats: https://www.spyderrobotics.com/
I have this one.
here's a better link, 10 bulbs will last you a pretty good amount of time, and a dollar per is pretty hard to beat.
you either get light fixtures that take the pin ends, or you could get an adapter like this: https://www.amazon.com/Adapter-JACKYLED-Bayonet-halogen-Converter/dp/B00W3GA4JG/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1530577064&sr=8-3&keywords=e26+to+gu24+adapter&dpID=41nk0BG2RVL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch
the pin bulbs tend to be cheaper, so its not a bad long term investment
what do you think of this stuff: https://www.amazon.com/KILZ-Interior-Exterior-Enamel-Low-Lustre/dp/B01MQCGX1T/ref=sr_1_34?ie=UTF8&qid=1523986475&sr=8-34&keywords=latex+enamel+paint ?
the valspar stuff has pretty bad reviews on amazon, which worries me a bit
I was hoping to get away with just a nest box. I will use one of these down the line though if I run into the female having bad egg cycles. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000NPBLAU/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
Get this one. It is the smallest wattage MVB out there. I actually had this one and it is still working fine. I have it on snake enclosure now.
Mega Ray 70W MVB https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VF9AWH6
You got good attitude, my friend. Yes, surface temperature of the basking area. You need an infrared temp gun to measure that, as ambient air temp can't tell you exact figures.
Basking surface temp area is one of the most important parameters and often overlooked.

I know pond armor (https://www.amazon.com/Pond-Armor-SKU-BLACK-QT-R-Shield-1-5-Quart/dp/B00I9X3TTY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1472662954&sr=8-1&keywords=pond+armor) gets used for aquariums and seals out water really well. It does well with sand and rocks in aquariums, but I don't know about claws and such.
