I want you to be successful. I know there are many challenges to overcome. But please change this sentence at https://openbazaar.org/
"We hope to have a full release early 2015."
Unless "full release" means something entirely different to you.
This is more accurate:
> There's no question if you are looking to conduct a business on top of OpenBazaar right now, you'll be disappointed.
>So, OK OK OK I understand, I'll get downvoted to oblivion because some of you guys might think I'm spitting in the soup, but no.
No way man, that's the whole idea of a beta! We want your ideas.
> 1) on the main page there is no way to know exactly where to download anything , the only link to github is at the bottom of the page. Maybe I would suggest adding a download link in the top menu pointing to the latest release link on github ?
We're redesigning the main page now, and we are doing what you suggest. This should be released by the 24th, /u/bglassy is heading this up.
> 2) ok I'm on windows (like most folks in the world). Right now I would like to try openbazaar. I don't want to install a linux VM just for that, nor a windows VM. On the beta 3 release page, I see I can get a windows copy. nice ! I download the sources from the release page. I see I need to get PowerShell to go on. Guys, I know powershell is very nice, but it's not included in windows 7 by default. Look at this page that shows how to do it, I don't even want to try to understand it. http://blogs.technet.com/b/heyscriptingguy/archive/2013/06/02/weekend-scripter-install-powershell-3-0-on-windows-7.aspx[1]
> 3) oh I need also visual studio. ;( > > --> Please guys, can you create windows binaries and put them on github ? Thanks a lot !
I think you're mistaken! You don't need to build from source, the binary is right here.
>4) Can someone make some .ova appliances for virtualbox ? thanks from all my heart !
I don't know if those exist, but if you open up a GitHub issue I'm sure that someone will create one in time.

There's no follow up beyond this so it's unclear if Hacking Team CEO David Vincenzetti did anything with the information.
I would Highly Recommend Private Internet Access. This company is one of the most, if not the most serious company about protecting their users privacy.
They just shut down Russia, as the government their passed a law that requires ISP to keep records of customers data for at least 1 year. Plus they also have really good security in place and it is easy for a newbie to use.
No specific timeline for Monero but the OpenBazaar development team at OB1 is working on a big change to the infrastructure that will allow users to choose their own payment coins. You can read more about it here: https://openbazaar.org/blog/Freedom-To-Trade-Means-Freedom-To-Choose-Currencies-The-OpenBazaar-Multiwallet/
Hi, when you set up an OpenBazaar store, choose one or more Moderators. The Moderator will protect both you and the buyer. Read about it at https://openbazaar.org/blog/how-moderators-and-dispute-resolution-work-in-openbazaar/
Check out the factoids they cite based on the GitHub stats:
https://www.openhub.net/p/OpenBazaar/factoids#
Over the past twelve months, 75 developers contributed new code to OpenBazaar. This is one of the largest open-source teams in the world, and is in the top 2% of all project teams on Open Hub.
OpenBazaar is written mostly in JavaScript.
Across all JavaScript projects on Open Hub, 21% of all source code lines are comments. For OpenBazaar, this figure is 33%.
This high number of comments puts OpenBazaar among the highest one-third of all JavaScript projects on Open Hub.
A high number of comments might indicate that the code is well-documented and organized, and could be a sign of a helpful and disciplined development team.
The source code repository for OpenBazaar has less than a year of continuous activity. This likely is a relatively new project.
A short history is not necessarily a bad thing (all projects have to start somewhere!) but often, newer projects are changing rapidly and are thus less stable. They are also often innovative and exciting!
As this project matures, a longer source control history in conjunction with recent activity might indicate that the project has enough merit to hold contributors' interest for a long time. It might indicate a mature and relatively bug-free code base, and can be a sign of an organized, dedicated development team.
> correct me if im wrong
You're wrong.
https://bitcoin.org/en/developer-guide#p2p-network
>When started for the first time, programs don’t know the IP addresses of any active full nodes. In order to discover some IP addresses, they query one or more DNS names (called DNS seeds) hardcoded into Bitcoin Core and BitcoinJ.
perhaps the motivation he has is the momentum needed to abstract the payment layer and have specific implementations for Bitcoin, and Dash, making these templates for every other interested project to easily integrate another currency, those cryptos based off of bitcoin would have the easiest time integrating as they should have the same basic feature set.
This however changes the way products might be advertised as not all sellers might be able to receive payments in all currencies (which then starts another conversation into currency conversions and perhaps allowing sellers to integrate with crypto exchanges like poloniex)
I also had this happen, where I had control of a Blockstack name on Namecoin, and then when Blockstack did their migration, I was not able to retrieve control of the name. I tried to debug it with the devs but was unsuccessful. This was frustrating. If you make any progress on recovering your name, please share info! For my part, I read that it should be possible to use the same private key as the Namecoin address that controlled the name, as a Bitcoin private key to control the name, but this did not work for me. Possibly this had to do with that I originally registered the name on onename.io and then had Onename transfer it to my own Namecoin wallet?
It is easy for me to see that OpenBazaar would want to keep using Blockstack, because it is built on Bitcoin, so theoretically name registration could be integrated into the OpenBazaar client, since there is already an integrated BTC wallet. The Blockstack project also has strong momentum: they just today announced a fund for application development. A ENS solution might make sense in a more Ethereum-based system.
This usually happens due to poor entropy for the RNG on virtual machines. You can install rng-tools package and that usually adds enough entropy to make it work.
sudo apt-get install rng-tools
haveged is another approach. See,
With either method be sure to run a quick test after using,
cat /dev/random | rngtest -c 1000
It should get only 1 or 2 failure count out of 1000 runs.
You need to read Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey. It will open your eyes. Also consider listening to his radio show. Don't worship the FICA alter and lay out your most important expenses in life as highest priority: food, water, shelter, clothing. Everything else can fuck off. (I'm not religious, but he talks a lot about Christianity along side money)
A VPN is operated by a company which exists in a country. A country is governed by law. Laws allow subpoenas and warrants to be used by courts as orders to enforce decisions on the companies of a country. These decisions can include deanonymization orders.
Please take a look at the Tor FAQ for a more extensive answer as to why.
> I wonder if it would be possible to run a "virtual node" on the same machine in an emulated OS, effectively running two nodes on the same box.
It is. There are many hypervisors to use, which is best depends on the operating system and your preferences.
My workstation OS is Mac OS X. I use VirtualBox - with this I can run as many virtual machines as my resources allow.
I have, at the moment, two Linux virtual machines running. One I use for work, the second I spun up to use as a sandbox for the OpenBazaar client.
So awesome. Just made a Steemit post about IPFS.pics specifically, love that this is going on and being used within OpenBazaar.
Hey, I helped the other guy get his funds and I can help you too. Send chat please.
I helped the guy sweep his funds.
I dont exactly understand, but if you mean confirmed transaction then yes.
It is here, https://blockchair.com/bitcoin/transaction/aac6f1f8b54145f1421f399e141487fb5bff4b6581226d0a5bea2af9eacc3599
122 Confirmations...
Refund use what wallet?
It is not on my wallet that has seed on OpenBazaar configuration.
https://blockchair.com/bitcoin/address/1N3YqyMGX7oeEejk2QHMQvtKzvrQ3V6sPC
Refund use bellow $2 usd fee, why I can't transfer from OpenBazaar wallet to external wallet?!
It's only $2, why??
I like the idea, not sure if there's a reliable way to determine whether or not it's installed. This is the first solution I found but haven't tried it yet.
I've the same here on OSX. My try to add funds resulted in a transaction with > 150 confirmations on blockchair.com but in the wallet the funds aren't added but noted with 0 confirmations.
I recently updated to Openbazaar 2.2.5 without success....
Saga is really a stablecoin:
current price is $1.37: https://www.saga.org/performance/
which is the price of a SDR: https://www.xe.com/en/currencyconverter/convert/?Amount=1&From=XDR&To=USD
I got the same for 'Blockstat':
> Invitation #23429 for the top members of the Blockstack community.
Googling brings up this: https://steemit.com/ico/@thnkr/status-rsk-the-telegram-chat-bot-cryptocurrency-you-can-buy-on-floppy-disks Then twitter message from RSK that it is a scam: https://twitter.com/RSKsmart/status/887749951396118529
Or a potential new OpenBazaar user who happens to just be talking about it on Steemit, got to let new users be allowed ignorance, I didn't know how to answer the person's question with any knowledge of the law for sure, so glad to get a lot of replies here.
> Surely it would possible to get a list of verified moderators, who ideally use their real names ; and perhaps in a perfect world have knowledge of some common law contractual principals to guide their decision making when arbitrating in a dispute.
To be a moderator on Bisq you have to be approved and also deposit a high bond. Works like a charm. https://bisq.network/faq/#8
You should install the 2.4.3 version found here https://openbazaar.org/download/. If you are still having issues please send your ob.log file to and we can help you sort it out.
soon™. They've mentioned this more recently in their developer calls (available on the blog as well) but I have not listed in recently. In general, they are working on it, but I do not know how soon it will be ready.
Just did it, nothing has changed, the plus sign still does not appear.
One more thing - the links on your download page are not updated, they still point to the previous version.
And one minor UX problem - the scrollbar on the discover page gets hidden behind the header (where the logo, search engines, transaction button, etc. are).
It is definitely on their road map (see here - https://openbazaar.org/blog/openbazaar-2018-roadmap/). Specifically " Custom curation is a new feature we’ll be adding (see “Improved Content Discovery” below). "

For now, you may have to share your content curation with the community over a traditional means (website most likely). If you have the time to experiment with content curating for product lists it could be a big help to get your recommendations on designing the official OB feature.
Make SURE to check out the crazy discounts offered by a few select OpenBazaar vendors here: https://openbazaar.org/blog/big-discounts-when-You-shop-openbazaar-this-week/

Just saw this blog post, answered the essence of my question, but I am curious about the rough timeline. https://openbazaar.org/blog/Freedom-To-Trade-Means-Freedom-To-Choose-Currencies-The-OpenBazaar-Multiwallet/
Minor error: on openbazaar reddit page, the link to Download is broken. It points to https://openbazaar.org/download.html which has been changed to https://openbazaar.org/download/ without a proper redirect.
The link should be modified to point to the new location.
Version 2.0.21 with a fix for this issue is now live. Please update to the latest version when prompted within your client, from the website or from Github:
> We're now working hard to figure out ways to better educate users about doing research themselves to prevent this
You won't get much success with that. How are users going to do the research? Very few users are on /r/OpenBazaar/ and you are not publishing scammers on your website https://openbazaar.org/ . A Google search doesn't list scammers in the top results.
> creating an approved list of moderators that we trust
That might be a good idea in general. The criminals will just continue to use their own moderator profiles and ignore your list.
OB1 pretty much just went straight for building the product but you can see a lot of commentary on the OpenBazaar blog: https://openbazaar.org/blog
Is there something specific you are interested in reading?
It seems you have provider issue. Website online and works fine. If you have any questions about OpenBazaar.info, please contact me.
An alternative to dualbooting is to run Linux as a virtual machine inside Windows (or vice versa). If you run it full screen you will hardly notice it isn't your primary OS. If you're interested, check out VirtualBox.
Another free option, if you're a little bit tech savvy (or good at googling and following tutorials):
Install Virtualbox: https://www.virtualbox.org/
Install Ubuntu within Virtualbox: http://www.ubuntu.com/
Then you have Linux running inside a window on your computer, no messing about with partitions, no fuss.
Hello
I've been using Little Snitch for 8 years on Mac without a single problem. When I run OB2, Little Snitch has an absolute shit-fit. Little Snitch locks up, fans kick in etc. I have to disable Little Snitch to be able to run OB.
As I understand the attack it revolves around controlling X number of exit nodes on tor, running your own full bitcoin peers which and then correlating the data. Since I2P is geared more towards hidden services there may be ways to work around it. The fact is that currently there isn't a solid bitcoin client or library for I2P. It's on their bounty page still as 'verifying'. Once the bitcoin network has nodes running on I2P it would make more sense. The problem doesn't seem to be Tor or I2P intrinsically, but rather that bitcoin is still reliant on plain old tcp.
Just came across this piece of software. It looks very interesting and might be a big piece in the puzzle to decentralise our internet back!
Now, on the topic of anonymity, I appreciate how TOR is supported. It's implementation is still something that can see room for improvement (like it would be nice for the software to feature a built-in daemon), but it's at least there.
Are there plans to support other networks too? I'm thinking especially about Freenet, which may be easy to implement (mind you, I'm not a dev, this might of course be very hard), as Freenet works with a daemon running locally which other software can use to traffic their data through. I know of some applications that worked in this manner.
Freenet provides very strong anonymity, especially in darknet mode, where you trust only known friends for the connections and unlike TOR or other anonymity protocols, also offers a decentralised web in that every node contributes some harddisk space to the network for data (redundancy), as opposed to the classic server-client model normally employed for hosting data.
Looks like you also need Xcode tools installed. This is just a package of developer tools that apple distributes for free with it's operating system. You may have it with your OSX installation disks. If you don't have the disks, then download it here:
https://developer.apple.com/xcode/downloads/
Specifically, you want the command line tools. So when installing Xcode, if you get prompted to select the "command line tools" as an option, make sure to select it.
The data files are here:
Windows: C:\Users[Username]\AppData\Roaming\openbazaar
OSX: ~/Library/Application Support/OpenBazaar
Linux: ~/.openbazaar
You can't view the database file (OB-Mainnet.db) with any standard Office tools; it's a sqlite database. http://sqlitebrowser.org/ is a good editor.
Importing from eBay, Amazon, etc is something that's going to take more work before they can just drop a file somewhere. It's something I'm working on and hope to available on my website soon.
