Java is not based on Linux. I don't even know what to do with that claim.
> android doesn't have that ability.

> yes, but reverse engineering is easy and gets the source code.
Oh man... You are either trolling or know nothing about reverse engineering.
I'm not sure how to take you. I think you have actually succeeded in creating a long string of 100% inaccurate statements. Some so wrong that it doesn't even make any sense. Is this on purpose?
Don't mean to be mean but...settle down, step back, and listen.
For plasma mobile here is an FAQ
https://www.plasma-mobile.org/faq/
Try the default 123456, from there you should be able to go to settings and change it. Make sure you just use numbers when you make a new one.
>Finally, postmarketos, which seems to be the most well-developed os, states that it is ready for daily-driver use, but this seems to be far from correct.
They couldn't state that, because even on their website they say:
>Alpha version. Calls don't work on most phones yet.
If you use the webbased versions, sure. If you want to write an app yourself, sure.
As for the Android apps, maybe. There is Anbox which will allow running some Android apps, but I wouldn't want to depend on that.
This cheap generic one I bought for $7 a year ago seems to work. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07HLNNTXH
Tested HDMI, USB mouse and charging. This is on an upgraded 3GB running latest Manjaro. Didn't work with original PCB/older OS.
Same. I just bought decals from Amazon. I have the powered by Debian sticker over the PostmarketOS print
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PWX2GWJ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_g88AFb2JFT2JJ
The extra stickers are nice too. I have the Reddit sticker, the #HelloWorld, the Android biting the Apple, and another company I didn't recognize on my 3yo's Samsung kids edition tablet.
I had the normal power supply in along with this USB C Dock
I just tried what you suggested and it seems to have powered on at least. I had tried holding the power button down but only for 10 seconds. I must have missed the 20 second thing on the wiki thanks a lot
it's necessary for me because it's only $3.99 and it's all Silicone on the outside, very flexible for soldering and the key is it is Silicone coat so it's flexible and Heat resistant. Pine64 sells the lowest price all -silicone cable.
Most of the other USB-C cables - if you touch them they will melt and Smoke bc they are made of pvc.
It's hard to find Silicone USB-C cables.
Only 2 other vendors are selling them on Amazon now.
There is a 2-pack on AMazon for $19.99 ($10 each)
There is a single cable from Anker that is $20 , the powerline III.
paying $3.99 for Silicone flexible cable over paying more, I definitely get some Pine64 ones before I check out. they don't charge more in the cart for shipping to add the cables.
All the other cables I already had before were terrible to solder with because they are not flexible enough.
>ortability I was going to use a 18v power tool battery wired directly to a
yes 18-21 volt power tool batteries with a DC5525 - buy a low cost "Power Wheels" adaptor for your brand battery, it works great. I have tested this with Ryobi, Ridgid, Milwaukee.
I bought several brands of Power Wheel adaptors. I thought ones made/sold by Crivnhar were the best in detailing of the plastic mold as well as including a fuse.
here is one Amazon ( I have not tested this but it has right specs)
$20 on sale, HTC PD65 W 20V charger
keep in mind only have Pinecil pluged into it or you won't get full watts. if you plug more than one thing into charger will Pinecil, it will Split up the power to both ports.
You can definitely get away with a 30w PSU as mentioned, I'd suggest getting a 60w one for maximum performance though. I personally use this one given how compact it is, but there's certainly cheaper ones available! Obviously, you'll want to look for one that's compatible with your country's power sockets
If you want the full power, it's not going to be cheap. You need a brick capable of 65w. These are advertised as capable of charging a laptop.
At that point, you might be better off looking at the larger power supplies which are around the size of a car battery. They'll be about the same price as a brick which can delivery (far less of) the same power.
I'm a big fan of Anker products like the $249 Anker Power Station: https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Portable-Generator-Station-Outdoor/dp/B09FF46FQ9/
Compare to the $199 Anker PowerCore: https://www.amazon.com/Anker-PowerCore-Portable-Delivery-A1291/dp/B089D4176K/
I took the foam from the box it came in and cut it to fit in one of these I had laying around...not super pretty but it works to just toss in my bag. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Y49N2X8?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
the first one would limit the pinecil a lot.
the second one would also limit it actually, but would still work pretty well. even though it says 60w in the name it actually only does 45w on usb-c. I just tested my pinecil, it hit 50w on usb-c.
here are some I found that can actually do 60w
https://www.amazon.nl/UGREEN-Oplader-Snellader-Delivery-Compatibel/dp/B0875H19YY/
https://www.amazon.nl/Anker-A2663311-snellaadvermogen-technologie-compatibel/dp/B094QKV6S8/
Thanks for the detailed response, could you provide feedback on these two? Would the first one be too weak or?

You might want a tip such as: https://www.amazon.com/Types-Stainless-Soldering-Replacement-TS-C4/dp/B07HG5NXB4
I believe I've used it to handle 12AWG (esk8 power leads). It takes a bit and a ts100 will have a better max output but it should still be able to handle the job.
If you're in the US and need it super quick (and grey market): someone sells them on amazon
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B096X6SG13?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_detailsShips by Amazon. Sold by Pine64. I don't know where you got your information from.
So I just realized I have the wrong size barrel charger… so will this be good? I can’t imagine it won’t I just want to make sure before I buy it.
I bought this one. I've had no issues with it DTK 24V 4A 96W Charger Power Supply UK Mains AC 90-240V to DC 24V Adapter Switching Transformers for Switch LED Strip Connector : 5.5 * 2.5mm https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07K85GJ54/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_YACN9Y5K1ENNDCTX05WV?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 I think as long as your barrel is 5.5*2.5 you'll be fine with the Dell charger
I tried using my 30W MacBook charger and it kept resetting. I found this thread about it, where people were having issues even with higher rated chargers.
In the end, I ended up going for this 45W charger, which works just fine for my needs.
I know this conversation is as old as dirt, and [op](u/weaksauce2506) likely won’t see it now, but for other Google passers-by like myself, I got this cable, which is admittedly a bit pricier than most, but it is both silicon and flexible, plus it is magnetic self-coiling, so it is easy to keep organized - and as a side benefit, it nicely matches he clear case with white grip. :)
I am not a seller or anything. I hit this post looking for battery options myself, but I figured this was something I handled recently, so here you go.
I don't have a Pinetime (yet) but I currently use this soft watch band. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08DD7CL8L/
I used a magnetic Milanese style previously and it worked well, but it sometime got snagged on long sleeve shirt/sweater cuffs.
I like both options because infinite adjust ability since my wrist shirink/swells depending on the time of day.
This one works great - and you cant beat 3 for $16 USD

I was going to suggest Steam its great Proton and the community run ProtonDB. Proton is a gaming adaption of Wine maintained by Valve.
Unfortunately I remembered only thanks to other posts that the PBP is indeed arm based. Proton is made for x86 and an issue on this support was closed 3 years ago https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/1493#issuecomment-422022116 but if you believe something changed, e.g arm popularity and overall specifications might be good to open a new issue.
Nylon strap i put on my pinetime. fits perfectly, very comfortable.

Here is a forum post of the issue, several people in the thread state that by using a 12V 7.5A power supply such as Leicke NT33402 the card has started working correctly. However, some report that even with an ATX PSU they still had issues with this particular card. The general consensus seems to be that using a Marvell 9215 adapter card is the best bet, this is one such card but there are many that use that chipset.
I actually haven't gotten around to fixing it myself yet, but have the card I linked ordered and can post an update if that would be helpful. I fully expect it will work but can report back after it arrives so you can have that context before deciding to spend any money.
Looks like uboot payload worked, but something is wrong with your SD and it did not take the partition table for some reason. The second card you tried makes me think that it's a bad card, and the second one would work if not for some annoying hardware bug where you have to take it back out, reboot, put it back in, and reboot another time. uboot is such trash, Pine needs desperately to get away from it, especially if they plan on sticking with Rockchip products.
Kinda scary if this is on the latest spin though, SD and Manjaro/KDE is the only thing I can use to recover a bad update on the eMMC as precisely zero other images from the Pine64 page boots for me. I'm thinking that whoever is pushing the images isn't testing them correctly, or maybe they have some sort of nonstandard hardware? (Maybe my PBPro is nonstandard hardware?) Regardless, uboot on the SD is indeed working, and apparently has been upgraded to allow for USB booting as a failsafe boot vector, which is rather surprising!
For my SD, I had best luck on my macbook using etcher: https://www.balena.io/etcher/ Unfortunately there does not seem to be an ARM64 binary for it though, so you won't be able to use that directly from the pinebook. I would suggest writing the image directly with dd
but it may take a while. I don't trust the built-in SD writer yet, so I won't vouch for it.
privacy.com There is a free account as well as paid. Make up to 12 cards per month on free tier.
You set the amount and whether it is one time use or recurring. Link it to your bank account or credit card, the site never sees your banking info but to them it looks like a credit card.
It is the only way other than Paypal I will purchase online anymore with all the recent hacks and headaches that caused for me.
I bought this setup to use with mine:

Mind you the iron is small so it's not perfect but it works
How can you record anything near heavy machinery? I really don't suggest what you are doing, because its not helpful, like you said, you don't really bother to even listen to them most of the time. Try to focus on the moment, and you can train your short term memory, and if its worth remembering, you will remember. ;) If you're stationary at a place you may consider leaving it there, but I think that if you had the ability to transcode the messages, it would be beneficial. I believe android 9 introduced this ability, it may help you. https://www.android.com/accessibility/live-transcribe/
Honestly though, if you feel they are not helping you, do this next time. Its the laughing man from GITS. Basically you will make it as difficult as possible to talk to you, and they will leave you alone. I found this very helpful myself in many situations.
updated to 20.06 today, progress is happening/ neighbors have killed their wifi. bandwidth with fast.com has improved to 16mbps (from .1-5 atmbps) 30'-40'. No hardware manips have occurred. Ill be doing some internal network tests this weekend to determine viability for streaming video/vnc like stuff, ssh DF possibly.

If you need any info on driver versions or whatever, let me know
I'm not a fan of Signal whatsoever, basically because of the reasons you mentioned in the last part of your post.
I recommend moving away from it and give Matrix a shot instead. It's basically Signal but with federation and with 3rd party app support. There are multiple clients available and several are available for aarch64 as well.
Talking about postmarketOS specifically for apps I'd recommend GNOME's Fractal, and hopefully soon KDE's NeoChat.
Other apps worth looking into are Quaternion and Nheko, and if you like the terminal even Weechat. There is a list of more applications available here.
I don't own a USB-C OTG cable, so I can't test this myself, but have you tried using mounting USB storage? If so and it works, do you know if it's possible to boot via USB storage?
I switched to Xfce4 in pmOS last week. One issue I've noticed is that the default panel sometimes vanishes.
I haven't spent much time with it since I've been off and on with making a custom layout for Onboard. The documentation is virtually nonexistent, so I had to learn how things work via trial and error and finding bits of info at its launchpad, which has killed much of my motivation.
I'm tempted to write a GUI program to simplify the whole process. I'm surprised one doesn't already exist.
It's tough to say from just a video, but that looks to me like XFCE with the panel at the top of the screen, plank (or similar) on the left side, and rofi for the launcher.
For now, degoogled systems like https://e.foundation is probably the best route, until pinephone and librem5 gets a bit more mature. Its what i use myself, and then i have the pp as secondary device for backup and tinkering.
Incidentally, I stumbled across e.foundation sometime after making this post, and it looks pretty lit.
I also checked uber without the app through a browser, I think that, in theory, if there exists a corresponding website for an app, it might be possible to use it on a Linux phone as well, the UI might be different, but it might work out.
But I had no idea about microG or android Treble. I will definitely look into them more closely. Thank you so much for mentioning them in the post.
You could try Manjaro ARM instead and see if you have any more luck with that. I've used Manjaro ARM XFCE and KDE extensively on my Raspberry Pi 4 and it's really good as a general desktop, and Manjaro ARM is now the default distribution on the Pinebook Pro (which has the same SoC as the Rock Pro 64, I believe).
Manjaro also has an active ARM user forum that I've found to be really helpful.
Are you having issues connecting, period, as in you can't get data at all or does it come and go?
As far and I know as of now when you try to use mobile data with the Pinephone all the distros currently have issues with intermittent data connection. For me, if I turn off the screen for a bit and then later I try to use the phone most times the data will stop working. I have to either restart the modem or just reboot the phone and that fixes it, until I turn off the screen again. I believe it has something to do with the modem being slow to reconnect after going to sleep. I've had the modem connect again if I wait a few minutes but that doesn't happen all the time. The different software projects are working on a fix.
The Lomiri version of Manjaro that you say you're using is currently in Alpha and may be unstable. Have you tried other distros to make sure it's not just the OS version you're using? You can find more info about their progress here: https://manjaro.org/news/
I personally don't have an arm machine, but I'm fairly certain you could download a manjaro image and install it on your arm x64 device, I'm assuming it's a Pine / Rock 64.

https://manjaro.org/downloads/arm/pinebook-pro/arm8-pinebook-pro-i3/ Anyway, make sure to extract the image before you restore it with etcher or gnome-disk-utility. It works for me, and the machines are completely identical, so give it a shot! Have a nice day.
If I remember right it's more of a protocol for decentralized content, be in video or otherwise. All content is stored locally by each user and the program distributes the content, though they do allow you to upload your content to their servers as a backup and to help speed up the network. You can read about it here: https://lbry.com/
To make the router pfsense-compatible we'd have to raise the minimum hardware requirements (from here) to:
Bitwarden should work, either via their browser extensions (not sure how performant they will be on the Pine Phone - I'm still waiting to order mine) or...
They have a CLI tool written in NodeJS
https://bitwarden.com/help/article/cli/
Probably going to check it out on my Linux desktop too since for some of my use cases it would be ideal
You need to flash the file that you downloaded to the sd card. For that you could use balena etcher for instance. I think etcher can manage .xz archives on its own, but if it doesn't you would need to uncompress it before flashing, for instance with 7zip. Does that help ? :)
Not Steam Remote Play but if you have an Nvidia card on your host computer you could run Nvidia game streaming with Moonlight. You would have to compile from source for the OS you are running on the PineBook Pro but it should work! I just ordered PineBook Pro with the second batch I would like to try this myself.
i got a kick out of playing with sxmo. It's very different, and has its perks. It's based on pmOS and uses a GUI based on dwm. But it is *nothing* like a "basic phone use such as Android", and i can't imagine the kind of person who would use this as their main phone
battery life is work in progress for all OSes at the moment with ubuntu touch being the flagship.
In terms of interface - check this outL https://sr.ht/~mil/Sxmo/ which is sexy for any terminal lover :)
Chatty as in https://chatty.github.io/? I've never used it before - what makes that the "most ideal"? Is it "secure"? It seems like it's targeted at a much different audience. From what I understand, Matrix looks like one of the better options for unifying different messengers.
I'll take a peek through that thread, thanks for the link. It seems reasonable to me that Axolotl should work, just needs some tidying up for the PinePhone, so I think that's where I'm going to continue for now. I don't really understand what Axolotl is though - how come Open Whisper Systems is ok with it existing/talking to official servers? Maybe I misunderstood some of what I read, and clients are tolerated?
> wire seemed like an interesting alternative
This https://wire.com/en/? I don't think I was aware of that - I'll take a quick look.
I have only been exposed to Matrix by clicking links that launch me to browser pages that have <something> where I click the default actions. Maybe I should look closer at that - it seems like it's exactly what Signal was worried about (federation = inability to adapt), so I'm curious to see how it pans out long term.
"Build an Electron app", they said, "it's basically cross platform for free"...
>Many users have asked why there is little to no dev dialogue in the #PinePhone chat. For those who don’t know, the #PinePhone channel is very active. There are ~2400 users in Discord, ~100 (concurrent) users in IRC, ~800 users in Telegram and ~500 users in Matrix.
Funny enough, they all can be bridged together into a single "chat" - https://matrix.org/bridges/
Just picked one up, and none of my bricks are up to the task. Since I originally wanted this to be more mobile anyhow, would anyone mind reviewing the specs for this? I think it'll work, but not sure: https://www.amazon.com/Techsmarter-20000mAh-Delivery-Portable-Compatible/dp/B07N6GKSG1/ TIA

Idk if this cable is one way only through.
The Pine64 provided power splitter is a simple buck converter. It has 12v coming from the board and converts some of that down to 5v. You can find buck converters like this or this at Microcenter, Amazon, DigiKey, or nearly any electronics hobbyist or professional retailer. You would need to do some soldering but it is pretty simple. What I like about the LM2596x based converters is they can handle 36 watts of power and the ones linked above are adjustable. You would likely have to do some soldering but could easily splice into the Pine64 SATA power adapeter. I modified 2 to get x 4 SATA drives, and used a larger power supply than the Pine64 power supply since the 4 pin header on the RockPro64 is straight through to the barrel plug.

Your other route is to use a separate SATA power supply for your drives. I've built several NAS hosting between 2 to 5 drives, obviously using a different PCIe to SATA adapter, and a separate power supply for the SATA power. You can stalk my posts and see one of my first NAS.
I got this power supply: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A8ZZXFE - The PCIe card fits ok-ish. I'm thinking of building my own case now recycling this case and using my CNC to build a more secure location for the board. The biggest issue is that the RockPro64 has a weird layout to fit regular cases, so I had to also use an ethernet extension to connect the ethernet cable on the back. It also doesn't have a breakout for USB ports, so the front USB ports of the case are useless (I could plug a USB cord and solder the cables, but I haven't done that). All these things are pointing to me creating a new case from scratch, but I haven't found the time and TBH my current setup is working great and running Nextcloud+gitosis+ZFS for over a year without any issues, so the motivation to improve it is low :P. I think I posted some pics in the pine64 forum, let me try to search them.
Yeah... Blu Advance L5, Blu View 2, LG Journey, and some of the prepaid branded stuff like Moto E series... There are a couple others on Amazon, Best Buy, etc.

I just got one of these. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QVP3GGY
HDMI and USB mouse work. USB-C charging as well. Only one USB port, and the larger plastic connectors won't fit any kind of case.
The integrated cables are kind of nice.
I'd appreciate if anyone in the uk has a recommendation for a dock? I got https://www.amazon.co.uk/Delivery-microSD-Multiport-Adapter-MacBook/dp/B083DZ1X27/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=usb+c+levin&qid=1605461076&sr=8-3 but it doesn't work, and amazon.co.uk doesn't have the Aukey brand.
I've never heard the term "socket adapter" but perhaps it is a regional thing. The box that plugs into the wall is typically just called a "charger" or maybe "wall charger" I guess according to amazon.
