Heck ya I can. I just passed my test back in may. I used the Barrons PTCE pharmacy technician certification exam. 16.99$ on amazon. in my opinion the calculations are what typically hurt people the most. I only used this material listed above and got a test that was mostly comprised of pharmacy law and mathematics and I felt very prepared for this test. They walk you through how to do the questions and why each questions is right and so on.
The most important tips I can give you are as follows:
in order of suckage I would say
mathematics > law > Drug questions > everything else.
To give you an idea of what to focus on
I just buy these. They have a beltloop and feel like lightweight jeans. They are a little pricey, but they last for quite a while.
Hi carpevash. Here is what I did. I got the best rated book on amazon, studied for 2 days, passed the exam and returned the book lol. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1610727991/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I took it yesterday and honestly it was pretty rough. Still passed, but even studying quite a bit and having several years of experience didn't help much. Some of the questions were just so specific, especially the compatibility ones unless you've seen it at work or just happen to study there's no way to know it. Of the suggested study materials I pretty much just focused ASHP guidelines for compounding sterile preparation and handling hazardous drugs. Those were very helpful. Looked over the high alert drugs list. Found thisvery helpful power point presentation on incompatibility which saved my a** because the material they suggested was basically the Trissels compatibility book and it's crazy to think anyone could "study" a reference book. Anyway, if you're considering taking it just wait until they come out with a study book. I only took it because I'm hoping it helps me get a raise or a better job, but right now it feels like a waste of money.
I have read the Moseby's book and It is a good book. For the average student, the Moseby's book should be enough study material. I looked at the website that you put up a link for and those questions are very similar to the easier actual PTCB exam questions. About 20 to 30% of the actual questions are harder than those questions you showed me. However, those practice quizzes and the Moseby's book should be enough for most pharmacy students.
If you are not the average student and require more help because you have trouble memorizing stuff or cannot understand some concepts or have difficulty with the math, then I invite you to take a look at my pharmacy technician exam review books. For the next 2 days only (9/3/17 to 9/4/17), my book is free on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Pharmacy-Technician-Math-Review-Vol-ebook/dp/B01JFEEXHC/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1504405722&sr=8-7&keywords=pharmacy+technician+math
I answer questions from students who buy my books. Therefore, you are not just buying a book from me, you are also buying my assistance.
Make your own flash cards. Get some 3 x 5 index cards and make them yourself. Don't buy them because making them is educational. Borrow a pharmacy technician book from the library to get the list of top 200 drugs. There's no need to spend any money. Top 200 drugs list online: https://clincalc.com/DrugStats/Top200Drugs.aspx . However, this list doesn't list the drug's use nor if the drug is a controlled substance.
If you're about to take the exam and don't have time to make the flash cards, I've made an electronic flash card you can use to quiz yourself. It is almost free and costs 99 cents (Amazon doesn't allow $0 pricing unless it meets some criteria list). Here it is: https://www.amazon.com/Top-Drugs-Flash-Cards-2017-ebook/dp/B01LZ6TEND/ref=sr_1_27?keywords=pharmacy+flash+cards
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pocketprep.ptcb&hl=en_US is this the one you are talking about? i go in 4 weeks and i'm freaking out. the online tests i have taken make me feel really stupid. granted i have wm training and 10 months in i'm almost finished ptu. (store is always shorthanded, so not been given any time to work on it) thanks.
Because there's so much content it can feel really intimidating. I found it easier to focus first on the areas that came most naturally. Then move through the material until you get to what is hardest for you.
When it came to the top 200, I found it easier to chunk my flashcards into smaller groups. And physical flashcards helped me more than Quizlet. I could regroup then really easily and the process of making the cards helped.
Then this was my favorite app to use! I liked how questions were categorized and how you could rate the questions on your confidence after you answered them. I did the free trial and paid for two leading up to my test. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hltcorp.ptce
I think I had about the same amount of study time as you starting now and I passed. So it can be done! Some people work better under that "deadline approaching" pressure, and if that's how your brain works that's fine. Make it work for you and let it fuel you. It's crunch time now and you're ready to dive in!
https://www.pharmacyexam.com/index.cfm/category/80/pharmacy-technician-combo-pack.cfm this is what a pharmacist recommended for me to get before the exam.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/1111306648/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_SWlrEb4FMS52P_nodl?dplnkId=91ef28b4-d82a-49d6-9406-90245a08e6d3 also a great resource
If you can do generic/brand without thinking you'll do fine on the ptcb, i recommend PTCB Test app on android (used only while walking dog/self and maybe one lesson during lunch), that's all i used before the test for 1 month. 7 days prior to test i got a book and reviewed the material for a few hours a day especially the hour prior to the exam (remember sudafed limits).
I've had 2 other techs pass prior to me and i felt like if they could pass, i could. It's really not that bad (other than paying for it rather than my friggin job paying up front).
ps sorry about all the shit.
Use a review book like this one. Way cheaper and works just as well (I studied on my own and got a perfect score on my first try).

If you use android, there is an app I made to practice typing codes. Probably will be some codes that it doesn't have added from wherever you work, but has most common ones added.
I found Drug Name Study Notebook - for Pharmacy Technicians helpful for organizing and memorizing drug names. It helps me learn when I write stuff down. https://www.amazon.com/Drug-Name-Study-Notebook-Memorization/dp/B0BC9MJL2X/
Have been trying quite a few different compression socks for years. They are almost all the same, only change is the material. I just bought another 12 pairs of these https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZD6RQMT?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details . To see how they were. Almost the same as the others and was extremely affordable.
If anyone would like a spot to practice their sig codes, the android app I made lets you type codes in and it translates them to what the patient will see. I was only ever able to find lists and flash cards, so I made my own app to get practice typing codes.
I have a pen that I keep on a retractable string. I haven’t found a marker that clips that way yet. Where did you get yours? I got a pack of 4 color pens that clip that way on Amazon for like $10 or maybe $12 for a dozen pens. I kept some for myself and gave the rest to coworkers.
Retractable Shuttle Pens with... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B9LSTQQ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Wouldn’t let me add a picture.
This is an app for them to practice their sig codes with, if they have an android phone. Helps to give an environment outside of work to practice and see real time results.

Lol they appear to have something similar for beads I'm sure would work the same. tidy tray
I’m having trouble finding the gel CVS used to keep in stock, but I did find this.
It’s 9.6% lidocaine spray on Amazon.
It’s been a couple years since I’ve worked in the pharmacy, so it is possible that product may be a little more difficult to find now.
I studied this book and passed on first try. I also used medical pocket prep app.

I didn’t study the top 200 drug names. I worked in the pharmacy for a few months and read this book.

I took it a year ago after starting in the pharmacy with no training. Read this book and the test questions were word for word on the test. PTCE with Online Test: Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (Barron's Test Prep) https://www.amazon.com/dp/1438011814/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_W15PR3BHNJ2NQYYPEC66

Questions were word for word.
I'm sorry to hear that. I guess it just depends on the luck of the test in terms of what questions you get asked. Personally, I felt like I over studied for the exam. I spent hours everyday after I got off work for probably about 3-4 months but I've also been a technician since the middle of 2020. I have my bachelor's in biochem which definitely made stuff like pharmacology click for me much faster than probably others. I used the medical pocket prep app and went through all 800 questions and bought the pharmacy technician 6th edition text book which I took a couple of weeks to go through (definitely overkill) but I had the money and only wanted to take the exam one time.
One thing that greatly helped me was I have a pharmacist and intern that helped me along the way. I always ask question, especially in DUR. For the first year as a technician once I pushed an Rx from data or adjudication, I never even looked at that DUR page because I knew it only pertained to the pharmacist. I started reading through the DUR screen and would make mental notes of things like duplication therapies, contraindications, etc. I wanted to understand more about patient medication regiments and why a PT would be on one drug and not another or how would a certain medication interact with another.
I just took the exam last Saturday and I was more than prepared for what was thrown at me in my opinion because I was so eager to learn more than what was expected of me as just a registered technician. I would definitely start by using your pharmacist and other more experienced technicians at your job and just pick their brains.

That's the link for the text book I read while studying for the exam. Definitely not a must, but I definitely got my use out of this book
We hope you choose us :-)
We just launched in June so there is less experience overall with our course. We currently have 100 students enrolled and are getting great feedback internally. You can also view our verified customer reviews here: https://www.trustpilot.com/review/pharmacytechscholar.com.
And yes, the new 2020 PTCB requriements have significantly changed the ability of aspiring pharmacy technicians to break into the field with on-the-job training. Technician trainee licenses aren't available in many states, so that isn't even an option anymore for many.
A Milli by Lil Wayne is my Boniva song. in the background of the song you can hear a milli a Milli a Milli instead I say Boniva Boniva Boniva...very cheesy and corny...also if youve heard the "Peanut Butter Jelly Time" it goes over quite well with Hydrochlorothiazide. https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=kblbgj2mZks&feature=share
Here is a link to the video to get a reference. These are just a few ways I've remembered how to pronounce and what they are for. Again quite corny and cheesy 😂
PTCB Exam Study Guide 2021-2022: Test Prep with Practice Questions for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Examination https://www.amazon.com/dp/1635309883/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_9N86PXAQRYYC9RF64CEP?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 I used this book and passed by over 130 points! The math section is extremely detailed and helpful
Yes! I used these ones

Also I would get a top 200 drug list and learn those. I worked in the retail pharmacy after I studied and did the tech in training and got my license for barely a year. I then applied for the children's hospital in my area with no hospital experience, no IV certification or anything and they hired me. I have now been with the hospital with over a year. Did all that with no school well I was going to school but for something else 😂. Anyways good luck!
I passed my exam today. I second the pocket prep that @tateofficial recommended. I also used the PTCB Simplified book from Amazon and I bought the official practice exam from PTCB. Here’s a a link to the book I used. https://www.amazon.com/PTCB-Exam-Simplified-Technician-Certification/dp/1942682123/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=ptcb+simplified&qid=1628125304&sprefix=ptcb+sim&sr=8-3
I pretty much used this one exclusively. There also was online content with extra practice quizzes, flashcards, etc
They’re uglier than hell, but Dansko clogs help. Also, I’ve bought a foot soaker that I fill with warm/hot water and epsom salt, and do regular foot stretches. Stretches are good when you stand on a stair facing as if you’re going up them, toes and balls of feet on the step, heels off the back of the step and do heel dips.
Also, if your hospital allows for these kinds of shoes (there is a strap that goes to the back so they’re not slip ons. Slip ons are a no-no for OSHA) these are literally the best shoes you will ever encounter. They are better than Dansko clogs. Literide Crocs
Edit: also, put a tennis ball on the floor and roll it around with your foot to massage it.
I’ve been using this book as a study guide. Very easy to read and follow. It doesn’t have the answer key though. Good luck. I’m taking my test soon. https://www.amazon.com/dp/0323673244/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_imm_K8N9080ZW78F1HMYKG72
https://www.amazon.com/Mosbys-Pharmacy-Technician-Certification-Examination/dp/0323497241
This is the book I have my students use it's pricey but worth it!
I don't have any experience with that particular course, but had similar issues as my materials hardly covered compounding at all and I was not at all well prepared for that section. I would advise getting an official study guide with up to date online resources. That way you should have a of your bases covered. This one seems good https://www.amazon.com/dp/1635309883/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_VA9CQQXBM45PKGKCZPYQ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I started in Sept 15th and was called a filling machine in late December. Here's what really helped me. 1: separating fast movers (fast track for walgreens I think) and slow movers when I'm done filling that drug. A) that helps spead, and learning the top 200 drugs for the test 2: after done that for about a month to 1.5 months I started separating the slow movers by isles. Helps make it faster and learn the layout.
I work at a fast pace cvs pharmacy, so it was sink or swim to be honest. I would also look at the generic and brand name on the script papers to, the more you look at them the easier it will be to memorize that for the test.
Hope that helps!
Ps. I also bought this book and its really good has for test answer explanations and a decent study guild also before the practice test.

I developed an app with several tricks and tips for math. It is quite fun.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mathfun.app1
If you still need help for that test, I could try and help you too.
Yes, it’s a review book you can find on Amazon. It includes practice exams and online resources too. This is the book I used: Mosby’s Review for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Examination (Mosby’s Reviews)
I see the sharpie pens on amazon for 13$ for 12. Thry are also coming out with a white and blue case on them. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08BX5THHP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Od7JFbHTTEH03?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Very Fine tip, no smudge. Obsessed
If you want a marker type : Faber-Castell Multimark 1523 comes in various colours and nib options. Does not smudge, dries quickly, can be removed by using alcohol from work and other work surfaces
Faber-Castell Multimark Fine(not on labels though)
If you want a click type: Pilot Super grip is also very good. Pilot Super Grip
There's an app just for math questions that I found super helpful, the full version is I think like $20, but it's I believe 600-800 questions very similar to what you'll get on the actual PTCE and good practice for once you pass, too
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pocketprep.ptcbpartnership
Also, sink in some $$ to buy a practice test on the official website. It will reduce anxiety by giving you a heads up on what to expect. It will also give you an extra study tool by giving you a chance to revisit and learn from your mistakes
Here's the app PTCB recommends for math practice
The full version is like 120 math questions, it's worth it in my estimation, it's got explanations for all the questions and you can pick the 2019 or 2020 version of the exam (although I'm not sure what the major differences would be math-wise but it's still good)
At midnight tonight, for the next 5 day, the following e-flash card study aid to help you learn drug names is free: https://www.amazon.com/Top-Drugs-Flash-Cards-2017-ebook/dp/B01LZ6TEND/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=top+200+drug+flash+cards
You may borrow books from your library for free to help you prepare for the PTCB exam.
There is also an inexpensive online course you may use: http://www.quicktestprep.com
It was sooo helpful! I’ve loaned it to two other people. One person didn’t pass the first time but then they studied out of it the second time they passed!
When you have more questions, I invite you to get my book. It is free for this weekend 10/8/16 to 10/9/16 ONLY: Pharmacy Technician Math Review, Vol 1 of 3: PTCB Exam Preparation Series I will personally answer all your questions by email, my forum, or phone when you buy my book. My name is Tom King and I am a pharmacist with over 15 years experience teaching pharmacy classes. 99 percent of the students from my live class pass the PTCB exam. I have both retail and hospital pharmacy experience.
I personally recommend this book because it has a nice chunk of information and the section in it for calculations isn't too shabby. I would just rent and not buy it though since it's a pretty long rental period and it's pretty cheap.
