Temescal Canyon is great. Here are two other trails super close to Santa Monica that are nice:
I usually use the AllTrails website + app. Good directions to the trailhead and while on trail.
Have you tried PadMapper? It basically takes the cluster-F that is craigslist and makes it searchable. I did a quick look and there are sublets/rooms available for $1300 north of the 10 in SM.
Also, I'd look at AirBNB. There are some options that may work for you, like this one https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/154768?checkin=02%2F20%2F2014&checkout=04%2F20%2F2014&s=ia5T
For your peace of mind you might want to consider getting a Ring Video Doorbell, this model is good for apt buildings as no wiring is needed, as well as some indoor security cameras, I use the BLINK XT2 for indoor, they run on batteries and can be placed anywhere, they are great. Both will give you instant notifications as soon as they detect something, save the footage to the cloud, and you can monitor from anywhere on your phone, as well as speak to the person on both devices from your app.
You can definitely sound-proof your apartment. There is a soundproofing drywall called 'QuietRock' which sells at Lowes. There are several different levels of the drywall: 510, 530, 545. I soundproofed a shared wall and it solved the issue. I used 510 because it was all that was in-stock, however I would have preferred 530. The real secret is to put 2 layers of drywall. I did 1 to start and it was not enough, it made a big difference, but 2 layers made it absolutely quiet. The other trick is, on each sheet of drywall that's installed, put the 'Green Glue Noise Reducing Compound' on it, this is a noise dampening compound that seems to stop sound vibrations from traveling through the wall. In my situation, I have 2 layers of the drywall, installed on top of the existing wall, with 1 layer of the Green Glue Compound, which worked. I would preferred to have 2 layers of compound to be safe, but when the first layer of Drywall was installed I did not have the material on site. Still, I'd recommend 2 layers, don't take any chances. This has essentially made any sound coming through this wall 'dead on arrival' and I don't hear any conversation or tv or anything. I LOVE it.
I did not need to sound-proof the floor, but there are options from putting down a layer of sound-proofing vinyl or other materials. Obviously this can be costly if it involves a lot of changes to the floor. But if it's just 1 room, it may not be too much. Another option is putting a layer of sound-proof drywall on the tenants ceiling below you. For more floor options search on YouTube for 'soundproofing a floor' to get a ton of ideas.
So if you love your spot, you'll have to decide if it's worth the cost. For me it has been. You can also petition the building to cover the costs, or a portion of it.
you can order ice cream from Uber Eats or GrubHub
I bought one of these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0028AYQDC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 my first year in samo.
I only need it during the warm months, july ~ october typically. Sometimes the breeze is enough to bring down the temp, but at my current place the curtains + windows open isn't enough to cool it down. Sometimes the breeze just isn't there. I'm actually going to look for more solutions to try and cool down my apartment more.
While we're here, if you want one for home, this one turned out to be a good buy IMO and is handy for turning stuff like bank statements into confetti that is definitely not being taped back together by anyone. Buy some lubrication sheets to run through it occasionally. I stick a big in between the top and the receptacle so I don't have to deal with trying to empty the receptacle into a trash can without accidentally spilling confetti everywhere.
Sorry about your bike, what area of SaMo did this happen in? I have the Amazon Cloud Cam and it's great, no montly plan is needed, though there are plans available with more features than the basic. It has 2 way audio, nightvision, among other things
Also a great back up security is to install one of these $20 motion sensor alarms, it can alert you when someone is in the permiter. I have one at the front door and in the driveway, so I know anytime someone is approaching.
And then Amazon has a great selection of Solar Motion Sensor lights, which I installed by all the windows and outdoor areas.
If you want a 2-seat sofa and can pick it up I have one that you can have for free. It's used and the cushion covers need to be washed since it's been sitting in my garage for a few months.
> Gotcha - can’t say why that would be.
Well as I posted above, this is the app that the Breeze website points you to, and Social Bicycles became Jump. So CycleHop must be piggybacking on their app.
Anyhow the ultimate point here is that the weirdness with the accounts being connected is probably what made me think that Jump was also operating Breeze.
