The spore print was a deep blue colour, and they all bruised blue. I was a bit concerned about the galerina, though all all indicators point to psilocybins.
Shout out to the ShroomID app on googleplay
Yup, totally agree. My interest is only to start the long road to become better at identifying. I downloaded Myco pro - Mushroom Guide then browsed /r/MushroomPorn and found nearly every attempt to identify wrong, even ones that should be easier than LBMs. (Granted the DB is quite limited, but it's quicker than browsing Mushrooms Demystified.) So I'm not planing on consuming anything I find on my own anytime soon.
Since we're kinda going back and forth, I'll just give you the rundown. I like trying to identify mushrooms in this sub to kind of challenge myself and get better at it. I use field guides for identification. For boletes, I have this one. The first thing I look at is the stalk. Yours is a "rough" stalk, meaning that it has rough scabers on it. Then I look at the color of the scabers. yours are brown. Then I look at the pores. Yours are white/buff. Hard to tell what color they are as they get toward the stalk. Then the cap. Yours is orange. Your pores also bruise blue/green. That, combined with the fact that I see pine straw around them, leads me to Leccinum Vulpinum. If the spore print is brown, it's very likely. Thanks for the challenge.
For Android, check out the Shroomers Mushroom App, which is available for pre-registration on Google Play and will release soon.
Thanks for the update. I would bet my money then that it is Agaricus campestris (the meadow mushroom). No Agaricus is deadly poisonous, but if you eat the wrong one it’s going to get expelled from your body one way or another, whether you like it or not. The poisonous ones will all smell like phenol/tar, but it can be hard to detect for some people.
I’m not too familiar with what’s available in Ohio, but I imagine it is similar to what is here in MN. I found this site for OH and it looks very helpful. Of the mushrooms listed on that site that you’ll probably still be able to obtain (or get soon) and that are pretty easy to ID, I’d recommend:
I couldn’t find much info on if hen of the woods (Grifola frondosa) is very common in OH, but if you can find it, that is probably my favorite fall mushroom.
And if you don’t already have a field guide, I would recommend something like this one. I have the upper Midwest one and while it’s not exactly comprehensive, it’s a great guide to have because it goes over top edibles and top toxic mushrooms for your area and is small enough to fit in your pocket.
That's no problem! Hope I didn't come off as too harsh, just get a little concerned with people taking random guesses this time of the year.
I'm also in the UK! If you're interested in getting into this a bit more, WildfoodUk have extremely good resources - both on their mushroom guide (linked) and their YouTube channel.
This book is also excellent :)
Birch polypore.
Growing on a birch 😀
This is a good book, nice and simple, big colour photos. I know you're south of me, but it's got all the main mushrooms you're gonna find there too. I'd highly suggest it.

Forager's Journal is the best mushroom hunter's companion. Only on Android.
The picture looks a lot like the cinnamon witches' broom in this study: https://www.semanticscholar.org/paper/Molecular-detection-and-identification-of-a-with-in-Duong-Dao/a51c5501041e93f65701cc5edb027ff5cb3938ae
Central Vietnam has also had a recorded outbreaks of witches' broom on cinnamon trees before, so I think this is likely to be witches' broom. If you pay close attention to the "roots" of the bundle, you can see that some "strands" look like peeled off tree barks.
Hey try this app, just take pic of gills don't clip it yet. Cut you off a small bite, after you have 100% positive i.d of it... then if that small bite doesn't make you sick 24 hours later.. then go back for the rest, that way you can eat the whole thing fresh or I mean cooked fresh I use vinegarand garlic salt. Prefer these over regular oyster. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.glority.picturemushroom
I'd recommend this book.. There are other books that are for the Midwest. B
I got this one off of Amazon. Was quick and cheap. Idk much if anything though so there could be other ones.
If you have a few extra bucks hanging around, you should definitely buy some mushroom guides for your region. Familiarizing yourself with those, as well as continuing to watch the subs, will help you a lot with understanding what to look for in identifying mushrooms. If you can get more than one guide, I'd recommend Mushrooms of the Southeast in addition to one or more region guides for the northeast (just the latter if you can only afford one, since Pennsylvania's more toward the northeast).
Nope, here’s a cool app to identify mushrooms using only the picture though:

Remember no ID is 100% so double check. Also there are many detailed guides about identifying Psilocybin containing varieties online.
