It's probably going to have a new animation system.
He said it in this audio podcast: https://player.fm/series/the-aias-game-makers-notebook/todd-howard
He actually said their next game (now we know it's Fallout 76) was going to use the same animation system as Fallout 4, and the game after that (supposedly Starfield!) had a new one. He didn't say the name of the games but it's a solid assumption.
It's also possible that Starfield is the same as Fallout 4, and TES 6 is the one with the new animation system.
These are the only images I made from scratch. I also downloaded the unica one font from google fonts Everything else was made using features and images from galaxy watch studio.
That particular week of silence has been before a longer article announcing the 2020 road map and seasons system, and after one about a Wastelanders developer AMA. I guess next week's Inside the Vault will make an announcement related to Fallout 76 at QuakeCon.
> The thing is... Starfield may be unprecedented. It could break the mould of expectations with things like manual and vehicular traversal
I really, really hope so. Good traversal mechanics are one of my favourite things in games and I would so love it if it had a plethora of them. Rovers, hover bikes, grapples/rappel guns, climbing spikes, boats or subs, hell even a water propelled submersible attachment for your suit like this would be awesome.
Not expecting much of that necessarily (I think a rover is likely) but it would be amazing.
Sure, but there's no way to tell if it will bring you joy or not until you've spent ~$70 or so. I suspect something cheaper like the classic Logitech single-stick won't actually have enough axes to emulate a standard gamepad.
I'm reading it right now, after seeing it in the trailer. It's a great book. I recommend the annotated version available via Amazon or where ever you prefer. It's been pretty great. Annotated Sailing Alone Around the World
Looks like a pretty standard lithium battery, like this one but smaller. It likely can be bought separately since it doesn't look proprietary, not sure why you'd want to swap it though (unless you can find a larger battery that's the same size).
On a related note, a Game Awards trailer for some kind of Fallout 76 update (Fractured Steel or maybe a next gen "special edition"?) has just been confirmed by the latest road map. I wonder if that affects the chances of also seeing something Starfield related?
Sorry this isn't a direct response to the post, but there's a system already designed and operational for interplanetary networking.
Here's a link in case you want to look into it: https://ipfs.io/
What does the community make of the 76 Season 1 theme? They've put more details out now, and it's clearly retro sci-fi themed.
I know they aren't going to go for this brand of sci-fi, but I'm curious if anybody thinks it means anything (good or bad) towards Starfield news. It's definitely kinda weird right? Like, they're silent about Starfield and do this within the same studio?
Bethesda changed its website's page naming in 2018/19, and so the Wayback Machine doesn't go back to 2015. Anyone remember what the old URL was?
Hopefully that’s enough to time to build a major new IP from.
It still stings to see the massive community that has amassed with Cyberpunk since its reveal 2 years ago, and then to see the Starfield community remain a minuscule group of BGS fans hopeful to just see something about an IP they know almost nothing about.
Whatever Todd feels about reveals and release dates, this simply does not seem like the best marketing path for a new IP. I understand the pressures he must be going through making the game, and I very personally understand his desire to work on something without the interference and input from the outside world, but at the same time building an IP is very challenging, and building a community around an IP is even more difficult, even for a major studio like BGS.
I hope they don’t take past success for granted when it comes to this game and just assume it will happen because they’re the makers of Skyrim. People aren’t exactly hanging up their Khajit suits to cosplay as {insert whatever the hell a Starfield character looks like}.
It just sucks to see: https://www.cyberpunk.net/en/news/31378/meet-the-finalists-of-cyberpunk-cosplay-contest
and then to think about what could have been happening for Starfield this past year. Maybe not cosplay contests per se, but at least a community from which we could really start diving into this new universe over and getting excited about.
"A huge thanks to everyone at Bethesda and ZeniMax who supported us in making this game. Creating a new style of game has taken the best from not just our own producers, programmers, artists and designers – but great efforts from across the company. Special thanks to our friends at ZeniMax Online, id and Arkane who helped us."
That has become a bit of a buzzword, doesn't really mean epic graphics. It's a tool like any other that can be used more or less, what matters is what they do with it. For reference, you could check the games and movies that are featured in the megascans website, a massive library of scaned assets and materials, photogrammetry. https://quixel.com/
Check out this game. Its a phone game, in real-time.. you have to help an astronaut survive on an alien moon. You make decisions and learn about her/him. I LOVED this game. It only costs a dollar, and it actually gets kinda tense, as you'll make a critical decision for her/him, and you'll have to wait in real time for her response whether she/he died or survived.

EDIT: I should warn, its not a "GAME" per se. Its more like an interactive story, but its really well done.
