New teacher, this is my second year, but when thinking about opportunities outside of education I thought about corporate trainer jobs as my fall back.
Here’s this little guide
I am doing a research about approaches and methods used by Primary Education English teachers in Europe. Could you help me by filling in this survey?
Could you also share it with your colleages please? 🙏🏻
Thank you very much! 🤗
For online, I've tried Quizizz.com, which takes longer than I'd like to get results and go back and forth between programs.
I have also tried Zoom breakout sessions that seem to work relatively well for grouping students together to discuss. The only drawback is that I don't get their discussion work except when I come and check in or answer questions. It's not simple for them to just display their group work around the class.
I havelisted objects for students to bring with them to class and paused a couple minutes to have students run and grab certain types of objects from their home to measure or objects to help in counting or sorting and combining like terms. [I teach math.]
I am hoping for more ideas as we lead into the next year and prepare this summer.
Just saw Microsoft Teams is free! They have almost everything you’re looking for. https://products.office.com/en-us/microsoft-teams/group-chat-software?OCID=AID2000924_OLA_23653873_269853567_130115884&utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
Screencast-o-matic is a free, easy to use program that allows you to create video of whatever you are doing on the screen.
https://explaineverything.com/ allows you to make Khan Academy type videos.
https://prezi.com/ is a more complicated presentation tool.
For content that I don’t create, I like Khan Academy. However, Brain Pop is more appealing to students and is offering free access during school closures.
The training I had suggested an I, we, you structure...
I (teacher) present BRIEF content.
We (teacher and students) discuss it, either in Zoom as whole class or in break out groups.
You (student) practices the content in a Google Doc, Google Form or Google Classroom assignment so teacher can check for understanding.
A FABULOUS communication tool that allows the whole system to be integrated is SEESAW. I saw it demonstrated yesterday and am stunned at how much it has to offer.
This is a great resource to help spiral back to see the standards that should have been taught previously. Also, it is a great resource for planning. You can differentiate your materials, so long as you are driving students toward mastery.
My School is a bit different. Because we're in Hawaii all of our classrooms are open air all year round. But it's already getting to be unbearable and will be unbearable in like August.
I'm not sure where they sell these other than hardware stores and amazon. But these fans are STRONG and amazingly quiet. I have two in my classroom, soon to be three for the next upcoming school year. If there's anyone else that has a better solution I would love that as well. Our buildings are so old we can't get an AC because it would short circuit the building.
I find that the one-shoulder totes can make my back hurt when weighed down. I am either going to use a backpack with organization options...or an under seat suitcase, that can double as a mini filing cabinet: https://www.amazon.com/Samsonite-Luggage-Womens-Spinner-Mobile/dp/B00GI3572E/ref=sr_1_29?crid=2SCLILA83UZ47&keywords=underseat%2Bluggage%2Bwith%2Bwheels&qid=1561556619&s=gateway&sprefix=under%2Bseat%2B%2Caps%2C184&sr=8-29&th=1
I read all(!) the AP books (from the public library).
I read a couple of different CSET guides (from the library).
I don't know how helpful it was, but I read Starr's History of California.
https://www.amazon.com/Easy-Classroom-Management-Difficult-Schools-ebook/dp/B00ASTAGNO This book SAVED. MY. LIFE. It's also crazy cheap, I guess cuz it's so short, but I personally really liked that.
