Super easy is too just wrap it with electric tape. Or there is a product called liquid electric tape should be able to find it at a local hardware or home improvement place.
You will also need to replace the ESC for the combo to work in sensored mode.
Yes, the ESC can run a sensored motor...it would just do so without the sensor wire...which is what it needs for the low-speed crawling.
For what you are trying to do, you would most likely need to go with a 1/8 scale sensored setup. Something like the Hobbywing setup here: https://www.amazon.com/Hobbywing-38020406-4268SD-2600kV-Sensored/dp/B0722M9HSR/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=hobbywing+1%2F8+sensored&qid=1624359779&sr=8-3

Most sensored crawling setups are geared towards more traditional 1/10 crawlers - which are smaller and weight less than your UDR. You will need more power, hence more ESC and motor.
Be warned, most 1/8 sensored setups are not waterproof.

Honestly, I would highly recommend you just get yourself a proper crawler. The Redcat Gen 8 and the Traxxas TRX4 Sport can both be had for just over $300...
You can get a motor heatsink fan, like this https://www.amazon.com/Integy-Hop-ups-T8534BLUE-Heatsink-Cooling/dp/B00W40W3W2/ref=mp_s_a_1_10?dchild=1&keywords=traxxas+slash+2wd+motor+fan+double&qid=1610983360&sr=8-10 I’m not sure if that will fit ur exact model but you can get something like that
First make sure your model can handle lipo batteries. And if so, up to what size battery it can handle. I think most slashes can handle at least a 2 cell lipo battery (2s battery)
There are different variations of Lipo batteries such as 2 cell, 3 cell, 4 cell, etc... For the sake of simplicity just know that more cells= more speed. (there are even 8s batteries)
Lipo batteries CANNOT be used past 50% of their capacity as they can permanently be damaged. This is why most vehicles equipped to run lipos will allow you to turn on a shut-off feature (Lipo mode) when the battery reaches a 50% charge.
The other thing to know about Lipos is that when being stored ( 2 days or more) they should be be stored at 50% charge. Most lipo chargers will have a discharge feature for this purpose or you can just run the battery until you drain it enough for storage (but remember, never under 50%)
And lastly make sure your battery is balanced (all cells in the battery have the same voltage). Most Lipo chargers nowadays will balance your battery as they charge/discharge it.
Oh and also, find a safe place to store them. You can find Lipo battery cases almost anywhere.
All the above makes the Lipos batteries sound like a real pain but it's really not. Most of these things will become second nature and the advantages over Nimh batteries is day and night. You'll never go back.
These battery testers will be your best friend: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07K1V1TT3/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_RHYQD3HQ922PK6NHS0TA?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
This is this piece you want. No reason not to upgrade. You'll probably want to check the seal on that bearing, as it could be compromised. I don't remember if there's a nylon washer between the bearing and adapter. You'll want to refer to the parts diagram.

Don't have the slash, do have the Merv. I believe they're basically the same design. These springs are way better than stock. Little longer, but stiffer, so way less pre load needed. Jumps and off roading are a breeze now. Red in front, black in rear.
I do have a 1/10 slash though. And quickly learned it's a street, packed dirt, smooth surface vehicle. But that's why I now have a Merv, and a Hoss lol
https://www.amazon.com/RCScrewZ-Traxxas-Slash-Stainless-tra039/dp/B009ADRDOE/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=slash+4x4+screw+kit&qid=1595298505&sr=8-1 Saved me so many times on my slash and rustler... I would get a few extra drive shafts because those have been breaking on me here and there. I would get an extra bearing kit as well. You can order most of these on traxxas website. Super cheap as well. Anything else can be found on amazon/ebay. Go through your manual to type in the correct parts # to make sure you never make a mistake through amazon/traxxas/ebay ordering..
I just bought the rebuild kit and dropped the gears into the stock servo.

was $30 and a fast fix.

The 2085x is 100% NOT WORTH IT.

If you're going through the trouble of putting a new servo in, for the same money if not a little more you are WAY better off just putting a standard servo in it that'll perform a lot better.
Congrats! I was just driving mine night and really enjoying the weight and power it has. It drives through thick grass and weeds like they're not even there, my friend's 3S Stampede 4x4 was definitely struggling a bit.
I know you said the hobby shop only had a 3S but I also highly recommend getting a 4S battery when you can. You can get a lot more runtime because you can't constantly drive it at full throttle like on 3S. Plus, it's just that much more fun. Are you only using a Traxxas charger? If you're set up to charge non Traxxas batteries I get awesome performance from this one, and around 30 minutes of runtime. It feels more like 10 minutes with my 3S 5200 mAh battery.
If you're looking for more stability and higher cornering speeds, the wide kit is awesome. It comes with extended driveshafts now so you might not even need to get the metal ones.
I finally purchased an RC shock tool. Greatest thing ever. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JQJX23V?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Off brand Amazon special. Used it for the first time this last weekend as it was shock maintenance time. And my goodness did it make life so much easier. Can remove and install pivot balls with ease. Rod ends. Shock cap removal. Holds shafts with no damage. <----- Giggity.
Get one, whichever brand you choose, you won't regret it. 👍🌮
Not that I know of. Ran into the same problem with my TRX4 Sport.
I ended up buying a Flysky GT5 for another build, so I'll just dump a new receiver in the TRX.
When you do pickup a 3 cell, and start to do speed runs and all that, I would highly recommend one of these. With the 3 cell and that extra gear that came in the box, your esc will get pretty hot, pretty quickly.
Only other thing I haven't seen mentioned is a servo.
The stock plastic geared servo is garbage. You can get a cheap metal geared servo off Amazon. Keep it on hand for when the stock servo fails.
If you get an aftermarket servo, you'll need to change the servo horn to a 25t horn. The only one I've found so far that didn't need a modification to fit was an aluminum Hot Racing horn. There isn't a lot of room in there, so you need a short horn like the Hot Racing one, or you need to modify a longer horn or the chassis to fit.
Welcome to the Rustler club! It was my first hobby grade RC. It's a beast.
I'd go ahead and get the metal gears for your servo, 2087X. The plastic gears they are going to send you will just strip out again in minutes. Or get the adapter and run a better servo.
Email or call them they will probably send you a replacement.
Or get some 35kg servos from amazon/ebay https://www.amazon.com/ZOSKAY-Coreless-Digital-Stainless-arduino/dp/B07SBYZ4G5/ref=sr_1_8?dchild=1&keywords=35kg%2Bservo&qid=1615495376&sr=8-8&th=1

These servos are awesome very fast and strong each one has 444 OZ of torque on 6S with a .14 sec travel time. And with 2 of them it’s 888 OZ combined power and around .12 travel time. Much better than the Traxxas metal gear servos for less. You will need two servo extension wires and the heavy duty servo saver spring for these servos. These are great servos if you plan to upgrade your wheels to heavier belted wheels/ tires.

Someone here had recommended Corossion-X. I've been happy with the results. I use it on messy jobs, like the time I ran two of my cars in the rain and neglected them for a few days.
After cleaning and drying, I spray this (outside) on my metal parts and wipe off any excess. The smell reminds me of gun oil.

The Traxxas ID charger can charge normal Lipo batteries as well as the Traxxas ID batteries. On the front of the charger there should be a little plastic cover, pop that off and it has the balance leads for a 2 and 3 cell lipo. As long as your non Traxxas batteries have a Traxxas plug it'll charge normal lipos. As for recommendations i personally use this and have about 50 runs on it and it still performs great.
Got this charger for NiMH and LIPO's. It will even charge the lead acid batteries in your car / truck. Has a balance feature and fast charge options as well. I like it so far!

Well, here's the deal. It's more about preference than 'best' option.
For example, you can get 2, 4s, 6000mah 60c batteries with a traxxas connector for $90 on Amazon.
I have 3 of these brand batteries, all doing just fine, just over a year. I use them in my planes, boats, and traxxas trucks.
https://www.amazon.com/HRB-Capacity-Hardcase-Electric-Approved/dp/B082M4YPMS?ref_=ast_sto_dp
Do you need a charger? If so, what do you want in a charger? $330 dollars can buy a lot of charger.
So it just depends on what you want. I'd say go with the HRB or similar batteries, they will work great and are an amazing deal for the $$$.
Good to hear and just ordered these from Amazon. Cheers!
Believe it or not, they make front and rear ones. I bought these two sets and they worked fine on all my GT-R shocks.

Ah yup totally missed the 2WD in the title. Usually this have better heat control. Summer always makes it hard.
I use 2 of these fans to keep my XMaxx cool. I'm sure you could zip tie it on.
I'm running this 0.8m 32 pitch kit with the 15t pinion (the spur in the kit is 54t). Topping out around 49-50. Next upgrade is the sway bar set. its just too much speed to not have them. Thinking about dropping a tooth or two from the pinion also bc of the motor temps being too high for my liking. Let me ask you guys this, have you drilled any holes in the body for cooling yet?
I have 4 sets. They are great tires for bashing around on pavement. They grip very well. You will be happy with them. I have them on my 2wd brushless rustler right now
Maybe these are the ones they are talking about? Its all i came up with
I don’t know the answer to your main question, but I recommend using this tape instead of whatever messy adhesive you’re using today. It holds strong and pulls off clean.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M7VCYFA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_EGEMZ2AKY1JG53VW3AY2?psc=1
this one This is a direct bolt on no other mods since its the same size as the stock motor, but you will need to get some double sided tape to secure the esc since it wont slide in like the stock one. You also might want to change the plugs it comes with i dont remember if it comes with deans, xt60, or none.
I wrap all my batteries in this shrink tubing, it's really thick and rubbery. You'll probably need a heat gun to shrink it though, a blow dryer was not hot enough when I tried.

The tekno driveshafts are on sale right now on amazon, you can get them from tekno directly but its a bit more.
If you use the vxl3s make sure to add fans to both esc and motor but mostly the esc, if you gear properly you shouldnt have any issues. For fans reccomend the amazon aluminum ones (search for 30mm rc car fan and a ton of them show up) theyre relatively cheap compared to protek ones and are equally as good, if you want to go cheaper the yeah racing 30mm ones are also good. For motor mounts i use the exotek one for 1/10 scale not 1/8 and its low profile and easy to mount just need a bit a locktite.
I put a single Traxxas 2250 in my Summit, it does the job. It's obnoxiously loud when it's sitting still and not perfectly centered, but when you're driving it's no big deal.
It worked out well so I have spare stock servos for my 2wd models, I grabbed the metal gear kit for the 2075 and used it in my Rustler.

Hey!
I've got a E-Revo 2.0 VXl and after about 2 years, I began having problems with the Electronics as well. I'm not sure if all the Traxxas Telemetry and info comes from the ESC, Receiver or both. You'll likely lose them, but gain the reliability of great electronics!
Did your motor Seize up? If not you can continue to use it with a just a new ESC and you can also use the same receiver and controller.
You will only need to solder on your preferred battery terminals, my preference is the XT90. You can also solder on the Traxxas connectors as ValvarTD said and make adapters.
I like to run these batteries from Amazon, therefore I've always got connectors on hand.

Here is what I suggest from Hobbywing

Checkout my most recent video of my E-Revo. I'm still fighting the electrical problems and it's about time for a new ESC. But I've got an X-Maxx to play with in the meantime.
Get yourself a good set of aluminum hexes as well as a set of aluminum SERATED wheel nuts both traxxas and losi make these parts and I use both the serated wheel nuts keep the wheels on and its harder for them to round off. Also stay away from those amazon cheap aluminum hexes because they dont have a set screw and tend to fall off an since they are not machined properly they also tend to round off wheels, trust me i know what its like.
strc hexes These are some of my favorites but i personally run teknos because I use their axles.
Just save up these motors are only good for pavement use, the only way I could make em last was by tapeing up all the cooling holes to avoid getting dirt in, but that would make them overheat so i only ran in short 5 min sessions. I suggest saving up for a hobbywing combo or spektrum like this, about 100 bucks and theyre really good and reliable, ive used one of the reedy variants for about 5 years on dirt, snow, sand, and countless of hours on pavement and it hasnt let me down yet, dont get thise cheap combos get something reliable.
Also if you decide to get a brushless system dont get the highest kv avaiable, youll nd up overheating way too easily, I usually get 3300kv or less for 1/10 scale because it keep temps down and has a ton of torque for wheelies if grip is provided.

They should be plenty bright, it looks like the same 8 LEDs that the 1/10 Summit has. The nice part about the Traxxas kit is that it comes with new bumpers that hold the LEDs. You just pop them in and replace the stock bumpers. The price seems reasonable with the whole thing being plug and play.

The battery charger I bought doesn't have banana plug ports. All my Batts are trx connection and I bought trx>banana adapters. I didn't even think about even when viewing the charger. It has built in xt60. Must have slipped my mind.
So now I have to wait for the trx>xt60 adapters and then charge. I can't even pre charge arggghhh!
Been away from RC for 15 years at least. It was all nitro ba k then. Never was good at working on them, don't even know where the differential is on this thing but I'm sure I'll do fine watching some vids.
Also have the light kit (I got it as an open box for $60 so I caved) but I was thinking better to make sure the truck works BEFORE messing with wiring.
I try to get a 10sec clip this weekend.
Anyways I'll try to get a 10 sec clip in the snow this weekend.

Yeah there pretty good, a good upgrade from the stock ones and at $30 it’s not a horrible price
I use this:

Works really well. Not as good as a full air compressor but definitely gets the job done. And no waiting for the compressor to get pressure back up all the time.
Use a hardcase battery

It's the perfect fit for a 2wd Rustler, I installed that exact combo this spring. It's great fun on 2S and grin-like-an-idiot fun on 3S. I think I've got mine on stock gearing, no heat issues on 2S or 3S. I specifically went for the beefier SCT combo so I didn't have to worry about temps on 3S.
Shameless photo posting: https://imgur.com/a/tnRANSR
If you want to stay on 2S you can just gear up with a bigger pinion. I run a cheap Zeee 3S, great run time and it flies.

really good servo for the price! i have them in all my crawlers and they preform great
and are waterproof
I only contacted via chat on the site. The person I spoke to was not nice or friendly. I've had it 2 times. Regarding the support, I also found this:
https://www.trustpilot.com/review/www.traxxas.com
Personally, I am not satisfied with Traxxas. And if I could go back in time 2 weeks, I would choose the Arrma Kraton 6s.
I bought traxxas because there is hype on the internet and I got caught.
If you don't want to replace the connector on your ESC or use an adapter, you can buy batteries with the old Traxxas TR connectors which are compatible with the new TRX connectors.
I use these in my TRX-4 and Slash.

But it's so much fun!
If you get one of these, you can easily blow most of that stuff off while it's still wet. I use mine after every run.

You should not need a new servo arm. The servo should come with one but you can get adjustable ones one eBay or Amazon.
Or you can get aluminum but the stock one should be fine.

I got this XPOWER A-2 for about $50. I use it after every run for grass, water, leaves, dirt, etc. It works amazingly well. It's just a cheaper knockoff of the data vac. You won't even need a hairdryer unless it's really hard packed ice, and even then you can just let your truck sit on a rug for a few minutes to thaw.

If you want to go insane over kill you can go with a Savox 1231SG or if you want something more reasonable you can go with one of these.
It would technically work if the connectors were right but its far to large to fit and heavy for such a small truck and youll burn the motor, ive dont it before numerous times. If you wanna go lipo i recomend ovonic 1500mah 2s lipos from amazon theyre cheap and fit in the stock battery bay you do however gotta change the plugs or get an adapter

Give this a try - I'm awaiting someone else to print and test it also - Let me know how it goes :)
https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/gadget/traxxas-maxx-gopro-mount - Okay - Give that a go and see how you get on :) It might be a bit too chunky, but i wanted to keep it as close to the xmaxx version as possible, cos that is tested reasonably tough already.
I'll keep an eye out for you findings. Ta.

Just watched the video, great stuff in there. I subbed to your channel, I look forward to more!
FYI the EV Peak shown in the video is unavailable, and the HTRC affiliate link is dead (not sure you bother to update those, I imagine they die all the time)
This appears to be the most recent EV Peak replacement but it clocks in at $300 which is pretty wild https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08PJ7XS78/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_ZPDH3ET5PMPRR76DWAK5

Appreciate the feedback on the Armma stuff. Back when I raced plastic = cheap. My understanding now is that modern polymers are more durable, and while aluminum doesn't break, it does bend.
With regards to batteries, I was looking at these Zeee 4S Lipo Battery 8000mAh 14.8V 100C with EC5 Connector Hard Case RC Battery for Car Truck Tank RC Buggy Truggy Racing Hobby(2 Pack) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B099K4JT1Y/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_JQ8QZTVYSS75W0R2FZKK or these Zeee 14.8V 80C 7200mAh 4S Lipo Battery with Deans Connector Hard Case RC Battery for Car Truck Tank RC Buggy Truggy Racing Hobby https://www.amazon.com/dp/B082NPRMK8/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_Z045D3GAHBBKR7CD89DC any preference on 8000mah vs 7200? What about the ec5 connector versus the Dean's plug? Any particular brand of adapter you like? I've heard certain adapters or base plugs are more prone to getting disconnected on hits. I know back in the day, Dean's plugs had no retention clip, so guys would tape the connection during a race to avoid it popping loose and being dead on the track.
Really appreciate the input!
I went with this one first
Later got this one
3s lipo is what I run in mine but wouldn't recommend it for someone new to driving these unless you are in a large enough parking lot with minimal traffic.
Fair warning though the newly added power is too much for the stock drivetrain so get ready to upgrade a few things as you go. Ive replaced my slipper clutch cause it melted and also the center driveshaft. Pinion and spur upgraded also.
I didn't get the traxxas brushless lipo set simply because you can get them extremely cheaper elsewhere. Same with batteries.
Have fun!
I have this in my slash, and have had 0 issues. Stupid fast, and plenty of torque. Only issue it that it's not water proof. If you don't want to spend that, the non-touch-screen one is about half that price.

FWIW, I put these lights on my Hoss and posted it in here a few months ago.
Oh I have some 1/10 scale touring car wheels I'm using, and to make them fit I had to Dremel the front of the chassis a lot so they can turn in, and I had to slightly sand the rear part of the chassis, too. But I still need to cut the fenders on the body, which I will be sharing when it's done. Also here's the link:Hobbypark 4PCS RC Tires & Wheel Rims 12mm Hex 5 Spoke for 1/10 Scale On Road Touring Car https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079M1G993/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_navT_g_N7B0BY2937XDTPPF0KVE
Ah! Aluminum stub axle carriers, break for me all the time and I got these aftermarkets but they work perfectly! They also come with bearings and everything. Link
It’s okay but I would get a different transmitter for that type of application. This is the one I use and it’s great.

So you need the 5465 in the right picture.
That's the 1/10 scale GTR shock cap replacement.
The ones you have pictured on the left the 74## one is the replacement shock caps for the mini e revo, so definitely not interchangeable.

I use these on my Hoss. Longer can on the hoss, believe same diameter as 3s motor. You'll need jst extensions to reach receiver box. At least I did. Cheap, takes a beating. I've busted a few fans but they're so cheap doesn't bother me.
My current one though has been going strong for a long time. However, nothing can beat aluminum cases for durability. I will say this, I have a dual heatsink of yeah racing fans on Noto. Those things are tough as nails and blow a ton of air. Sounds like a jet engine.
