It looks like Ben Johnson is on ratemyprof now and he seems to be good as well. http://www.ratemyprofessors.com/ShowRatings.jsp?tid=2416971
David chapman has also been rated and he seems okay. http://www.ratemyprofessors.com/ShowRatings.jsp?tid=2377780
Not sure how accurate ratemyprof is with David though as there is only one review. I would stick with either Chris or Ben depending on which time is most convenient for you.
Tim Oates (mostly AI/machine learning) and Daniel Hood (iOS and scripting) are must haves.
Kalpakis (his last name, gl with his first) is hilarious (he teaches OS for the moment).
Lomonaco is excellent for discrete structures or algorithms (easy-ish but lectures sometimes digress...).
Segal is very very easy but isn't really computer science per-say (more of a 'dreamer' kind of class, software design/engineering or wearable computing)
Chettri (and databases in general) is one to avoid.
In general be careful about 400 level courses taught by professors with no RMP entry and have Indian or otherwise exotic sounding names. They may be good, but you probably wont understand half of what they say. No thing against them, they're just research professors.
Honestly dude just look at r laptop deals and slickdeals and look for an i5 with 8gb ram and ssd would be my criteria (Absolute must).
I have and like the acer nitro 5 as it's good for gaming as well it has a gtx 1050ti (this was the older one though so i'm not sure about the new gen) and costs around $600 on sale ($550 if you can wait) https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Nitro-AN515-Laptop-i5-8300H/dp/B07KSK447S/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_147_lp_tr_t_2/130-8322783-1713326?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=GZB9JSMRX5Q8R3HRZ44K. The downsides to this one is the battery life is not the best and it is heavy.
There are lighter options with better battery life as well without a good graphics card for around the same range.
I doubht umbc is any cheaper than amazon, newegg, best buy or costco on sale.
I'd say 5-$600 is a good amount to spend and will last you 4 years.
Basically you can pick 2 of the 3: 1. Good GPU 2. Good battery life and weight 3. Good price <$600
I've found it's not worth it to try to save $1-200 here for a laptop and to invest more.
At the same time there's no way in hell i'm paying more than $700 for a laptop so the people that say spend $1200 should be ignored.
BTW umbc cs is very linux centric for almost all classes. I've basically never used windows for coding. Windows is really only used for Malware analysis and for that class they give you a VM with XP on it.
Hope this helps.
I wouldn't stress too much about it. I can't say for certain about IS (maybe someone else can?) but I know that in CS, there is a bigger focus on learning new languages than remembering languages. The key difference - for example - is you may take a class one semester that requires C/++ and a class next semester that wants you to know Python. Maybe the one following is in Java, Scheme, Erlang or Lisp (sometimes, depending on the professor). Point is: being able to pick up on a new language is more important than having learned the language that everyone else knows.
That aside, just because everyone else learned Java doesn't mean you'd be expected to know it. They might have an introduction to it, or you'll have a bunch of classes that don't expect you to program at all. Maybe you'll get into your IS classes and find a lot of people actually know Python instead.
If you find you do need to know Java, the similarities between C/++ and Java are pretty on point. Picking up the Head First Java book and spending some time with that when your classes start should be enough to get you up to speed. A lot of the syntax carries over, and a lot of the challenges are mitigated with things like a Garbage Collector, simplified pointers, and better class segregation and provision. This follows closely to my first point: focus more on being able to pick up a new language than worrying about not having learned an existing one.
The best way to start going to the gym is with a friend. You mentioned you need to be forced by someone, which I can relate to. But I guess finding that person is the problem. TBH, you don't even need to go to the gym, you can diet and do exercises at home. Simple push-ups, pull-ups (I can barely do one), sit-up, planks, etc. are good enough if your goal is to lose weight. Even if your goal is to build more muscles, you can start doing home exercises to prepare until you find someone to tag along with. If you're that lazy and have money to spare, you can buy basic dumbells to do at home. You don't need anything fancy TBH. You can use basic apps to schedule your workouts and watch youtube videos to understand how to properly do a workout. I started going 2-ish months ago, so my knowledge is limited, but if you want some tips, feel free to DM me.

The only thing that sucks is that it doesn’t have the best pressure sensitivity, which doesn’t matter unlesss you’re doing doing art really
i implore you to call these numbers and ask them.

the retriever has interviewed her parents (who were there today and have continued to be involved since her death, because she told them how paula treated her) as well as past and present students and employees, so expect something soon from them
https://cryptpad.fr/file/#/2/file/sSzX-3VMyTYuvhRtcFppfO29/ seriously consider looking for something before you run around saying it doesnt exist
yes, there have been formal complaints. the school has those records. ask them. we have, and they wont give us shit. instead, they threaten us with legal harassment.
her suicide note is all we have (https://cryptpad.fr/file/#/2/file/sSzX-3VMyTYuvhRtcFppfO29/)
because nobody (the school, the union) ever acted on anything
however, the school I'm sure has records of Vivien's civil rights complaints, though they've never released or commented on them
and the union recently went to OAH court for a grievance that revived Vivien's past grievance, but we're waiting for it to get posted publicly on their case search
Also, I doubt it was intentional, but I think you have a mistake on the drive size. If this is the laptop you are referring to, the drive size is 128 GB, not 1 TB.
Recommend using coding sites like https://www.hackerrank.com/dashboard
Create an account and run-through various challenges. If ur looking for a dev job/intern later, many interview questions are very similar to these, so best start practicing now.
I’m sorry about that. Here is a link https://www.freecodecamp.org. It’s a web development course. Web development is divided to two parts front end and back end. Front end is the easiest to learn within three months. If you have any questions send me a DM and I’ll put you through. You can combine your knowledge of communications with technology to create value for people.
Can you explain a little more? I'm curious as well as I was planning on taking his course as the other sections say staff. His gradetoday shows he seems to be easy and his rate my prof at Binghamton shows that he is good as well. http://www.ratemyprofessors.com/ShowRatings.jsp?tid=1613364
Maybe he's like Bannerjee who others I've talked to say he is bad but his gradetoday and ratemyprof say otherwise.
Thanks for the help though?
Like some other users have mentioned here, the school Division of Information Technology (DoIT) definitely can see what sites you're visiting under normal conditions, just like I can monitor network traffic on my home gateway. For a lot of sites, searches appear in a query string of the URL as plain text. For example, with https://twitter.com/search?q=I%20like%20turtles, you can see what I searched in the URL itself. And since the non-visitor WiFi requires a student login, your web traffic is attached to your identity.
You can gain a little privacy using a VPN or Tor, in which case, DoIT would only see that you're sending queries to the VPN/Tor service and not necessarily where the query's final destination is. Tor is free, as are a lot of VPNs: Opera has one built-in to the browser, and ProtonVPN has some free servers. But I'm going to agree with the sentiment of a lot of the other people here: unless you're doing something illegal, they probably don't care.
Here's one on Amazon. You could give the UMBC bookstore a call to ask how the poster sale acquires its merchandise. Maybe they would know.
You could also get a kettle from amazon for under 20 bucks. That way you can make other things like tea, hot chocolate, instant coffee and more. You sure it's not in the syllabus?
I've already taken it, and I think he mentioned to me that he changed some of the texts, so I don't know what it is (maybe The Healthy Ancestor?), but it might be mentioned in the first couple of Panopto lectures.
You can also email him; he doesn't bite.
If you have a Seedbox already set up, no reason to really switch from it (especially if you're worried about getting caught). If you have a reliable seedbox service (that is, one focused on privacy and anonymity) then you're not going to find much of a better solution.
Depending on your set-up, you should be completely fine getting the files from the seedbox over the network's campus if you connect to it via HTTPS or SFTP. Just make sure you're doing the transfer securely, and they would have no way of knowing what you're downloading or the legality of it. If you're super paranoid, find yourself a VPN like Private Internet Access and use that.
Speaking all theoretically of course. This is illegal and I don't endorse stealing.

Rider is a good app for using the transit. It tracks buses on a route in real time and somewhat accurately gives an ETA for the next bus at a certain stop.
