That's pretty much the objective. Build new trail sections in between already-existing trail sections to create one continuous trail spanning the entire length of the Island, from Oak Bay to Cape Scott.
This is how much of the trail has already been established so far, about 80 percent. The Oak Bay to Lake Cowichan section is already complete, but there are still long gaps over the Beaufort Range and east of north Buttle Lake.
I just wanna drop this book recommendation here : Rise of Wolf 21. It's a true story about a particular pack of wolves living in yellowstone, who are interestingly enough descended from BC wolves, flown in about 20 years ago to repopulate the park. This book is probably one of the best books I've ever read. Seriously, it's so good. If you like reading about wolf behaviour and their social relationships, you'll really enjoy this. Plus, wolf 21 is a god among dog, a very unique wolf, and definitely deserves more than just one short novel.
Okay, I'll see myself out 😅
I'm sure others will correct me, but I believe I was told that this is the definitive reference if you can find a copy.

I haven't been up there for 2 years, but the trails were in great shape at that time.
We always enter off Sooke Potholes - take Todd Creek Trail to Empress Trail - very direct.
Here's a map that is (hopefully) centered on Empress Mtn so you can see the connecting trails -
Hmmmm. Yeah so it seems, for iPhone but I think it if still available on Google Play
Not much help if you use an iPhone though. The iPhone one was last updated may 2020 so perhaps it’s a short term omission.
