The best way to study perfumery is through the formulas of others (which is how many professional perfumers learn the trade). <strong>This</strong> is about the best introductory textbook on the subject, but <strong>this</strong> one is also excellent. You should also actually work with the materials to get an idea of what they smell like in isolation, so I would check out Perfumer's Apprentice, which sells sample/educational kits to get you started.
Listen, I'm a grown-ass, self-respecting human being, so there's not a chance in hell that I'm sharing what I do with my body in the shower with all you chuckleheads. I will say this though: if you're still using a loofah with your bar soap instead of one of these bad boys, you're still living in the stone age. Side note, there is a separate cleaning mechanism for the... less clean parts of my body, which starts with having a bidet in my toilet, because, again, I'm a self-respecting human being who doesn't live in the stone age.

Oh man, this is amazing. Thank you for doing this.
Hard to say what the best gift I ever got was, but re: wetshaving, the best and worst gift I ever got was this bullshit right here Christmas of 2010. Had my wife not got me this, it wouldn't have failed, and thus sent me into an even deeper hole of cartridge shaving despair, thereby sending me looking for a better solution. Few clicks later I was watching geofatboy and mantic59.

Sometimes Amazon reviews can be helpful, but you have to read them critically with the fact that they're often gamed or just wrong in mind. Case in point: 6800 reviews, avg. 4.3 stars
Newbie question for any other head shavers out there. I'm having a hard time getting my head shaved close enough consistently with a safety razor. I always prep with pre-shave oil and warm water before applying my shaving cream. I do two passes with the grain, and a third pass against. The problem is that after the third pass it's rarely as close as I would like, particularly on the back of my head where the hair is thickest. I usually have to do a 4th pass to get where I want it, which can sometimes irritate my skin by that point, not to mention just how long this whole process takes.
Anyways, y'all have any tips for a fellow head shaver? I'm using this Edwin Jagger DE8 razor, in case that matters.
Summer is coming. And with summer that means summer camp for The Small One, which is expensive. It also hopefully means overtime at the main job. But we recently got a new District Manager who frowns on overtime, unlike the last DM who was just coasting to retirement., so that might mean overtime is hard to come by. These two items have lead me to reevaluating my finances, and the need for me to start budgeting.
I have never been fiscally responsible, it was not a trait that my parents had, nor was it instilled in me. While I can make ends meet, there are times when it is a struggle. So I have been searching for either a tool or a process of helping me budget, and I think I've found it, YNAB, or You Need A Budget. It's loosely based on the envelop method of budgeting, which has worked for me in the past (for the small amount of time I used it) I ultimately stopped doing because it was a huge pain in the ass. It's been helpful, but I haven't been using it for a full month yet so will have to see if it does help.
With the above in mind I have also been feeling a bit of burnout with the shaving community, and all of the options that I have available to me, both online (one reason I need to start budgeting) and even in my own den. I keep saying that I need to pare down the den, but I never get around to it. I need to find some time and just get it done. Thinking about filling two or three Large Flat Rate boxes and doing selling mystery boxes on the Bazaar, and if they don't sell that way, just PIF Mystery boxes. Just ramblin' now.

Not on theme today (sorry). Went with an old standard this morning. Switched it up to a citrus scent since I will be vacating work early today to fly down to Myrtle Beach, SC to play 90 holes of golf in the next 4 days. Bringing no shaving gear except for a bottle of CL Fourth & Pine aftershave. Will spend this evening at a local pub and watch the NFL Draft between Tito's and tonics.Someone's got to do it! Great Thursday shaves to all.
The soap is a nice balance of smoke, leather, grass, tobacco, and thyme. To my nose, the splash just smells like this, all smoke.
https://www.soapmakingforum.com/threads/my-first-shaving-soap-is-a-success.34264/ This 66-page thread has a lot of good info, even if the specific style of shave soap they're pursuing is a little behind modern tastes in high-end shave soap.
https://www.amazon.com/Complete-Photo-Guide-Soap-Making/dp/1589239431 This book has an okay shave soap recipe similar to what's in that thread. It's also just generally the most user-friendly soapmaking book I've found so far. Lots of photos, covers every major method of home-brew soapmaking, and leaves out all the hippy dippy baloney that tends to be abundant in DIY soap books.
I use one of these.
Same thing as what Stirling sells, but I didn't like the knobs on the bottom. They aren't neccessary, don't make it any faster, and I sort of felt like they were bad for my brush, even though I use synthetic.
I've been using one of those on the road since December and it still looks new.
The design seems entirely too complicated. Just attach a straight razor to a cordless reciprocating saw and have at it. What could possibly go wrong?
That can't possibly be right. They're charging $17.45 for 5 Mach3 blades, and you can get 10 from Amazon for the same price.
https://www.amazon.com/Gillette-Mach3-Turbo-Refills-Cartridge/dp/B0039LMTBK/
And I'm sure those big packs at Costco are cheaper too. Who are they trying to grab with these subscription plans? It's literally as convenient as Amazon Subscribe & Save but you pay twice as much.
You can do whatever works for you. There is nothing about a DE razor that prevents it from working with Barbasol canned foam or Gillette foaming gel. That said, I think it's fair to say that most of the folks here enjoy using soap and brush for a variety of reasons.
Personally, my progression went something like this:
Gillette cartridges and Gillette foaming gel
Replace cartridges with DE, continue using foaming gel
Replace foaming gel with cheap cheap soap and brush, continue using DE
Replace cheap cheap soap and brush with Beard Lube, continue using DE
Include slightly better brush and soap in the rotation with Beard Lube, continue using DE
Upgrade brush and soap to popular artisans, begin exploring vintage DE razors

Almost all the giant pictures hanging on the walls are purchased from stock photography websites and then cropped / tweaked in Photoshop to meet the color palates they're looking for in that department. I suspect most grocery chains do that these days. Looots of material gets drawn from Shutterstock... just browsing their food images I can already recognize some photos that were taken in the same photo shoots as the stuff hanging in our stores. https://www.shutterstock.com/category/food-and-drink
Have you considered shooting for stock photo websites?
I grabbed....
a P-Touch labelmaker would probably be a good idea.
if they are screw-on sprayers, that's all you need. If they're crimped on, well, you're gonna need pliers or something.
https://www.amazon.com/Little-Elephant-Wants-Fall-Asleep/dp/1524722294
They have a tractor and rabbit story as well. This book has helped a few people I know when bedtime gets tough. I've used it myself actually. The audiobook is good.
The semogue owners club boar is a good brush. I can not use boar due to a skin reaction. I used one for months before i figured out natural hair brushes were causing my skin irritation. This brush is considered by some the cream of the crop. They are infamous for taking longer than normal to break in. Mine took probably 100 shaves. This is the best price i have found on this brush. https://www.amazon.com/Semogue-Owners-Club-Cherry-Bristle/dp/B00FAAY1VE/ref=asc_df_B00FAAY1VE/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312136887781&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=14400931620272732663&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hv...
I don't think I've seen them cheaper than on Amazon. Amazon sells 100 pack directly for $25 (https://www.amazon.com/Feather-Razor-Blades-Hi-stainless-Double/dp/B004RWTQTS/ref=sr_1_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1486572354&sr=8-2&keywords=feather+blades)
I'm not sure this is the answer you're looking for, but there are plenty of people here that smoosh and load samples directly from their palm rather than a bowl. I'm not one of those people, I can't bear the thought of palm lathering. However, I've also seen people load samples from gladware containers. Maybe something like this would work for you. I think you'll have a hard time finding something <1" tall but you can check plastics companies like Parkway. Also look on amazon for cosmetics containers. I looked for shallow and wide containers for my samples without luck.
I know a lot of people are using artisan bath soaps. i found they turn to mush in the shower because they are not triple milled. I stumbled across THESE GLORIOUS THINGS. They make your soap last 2x as long and they offer a nice scrubby action.

(I have no affiliation with the seller on Amazon. I just use amazon.smile. Buy where ever you find is cheapest.)
Hey I’m a newbie (female) here. I bought my first safety razor about two years ago. I bought the viking chieftain one on amazon that had amazing reviews (VIKINGS BLADE The Chieftain Double Edge Safety Razor (Neutrally Aggressive) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B011L8WJIA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_ZFYnEb0FHYYJY) and I am using Astra superior platinum double edge razor blades. Shaving cream I am using is Barbasol sensitive skin (I know I’m gonna get scolded for that one but it saves time for me and I really hope that’s not the reason my experience is terrible). The reason I switched to safety razors was for money saving reasons and to reduce plastic waste.
My problem: it sucks. I wanted to like this sooooo bad. So many people say it’s the best/closest shave they have ever had etc. But I get a terrible shave every time. It’s not anywhere near a close shave. I’ve been using it for two years now. I have watched tutorial YouTube videos, I have tried to research, I have tried to adjust my angle to see what works better, I always go slow and stead....and nothing has changed. I can’t get a good close shave no matter what I do.
I have courser leg hair so I’m wondering if that’s the problem, I don’t know. Maybe I need to try a different blades? Maybe my razor sucks? I have no idea but I really hate everything about disposable plastic razors even though they work so much better for me. I really don’t want to switch back and spend my money on something that is designed to suck and be thrown away.
Please help!

Brazilian funk was super hot in the digging community in the early 00's. As a result, a few DJs put out some good mixes. DJ Nuts has a bunch, Gilles Peterson, and others. Here's a couple from some other DJs:
Baile Funk (there was also a second mix that I can't find a link to)
I've got a Norelco battery powered one. It's ok. Seems to use a lot of batteries, but no complaints about its functionality.
Rinse off with cold water, splash, and a moisturizer.
My personal (and possibly controversial) opinion is that the cold water and the moisturizer are the only functional parts of this ritual. Cold water rinses away debris and is a mild anti-inflammatory (in the same way that ice is). Moisturizers have barrier and humectant components, and there seems to be good evidence that these are beneficial for your skin.
I'm skeptical about whether splashes and toners are functional. I still use a splash partially for scent, but mostly because the menthol and alcohol combo causes just the right amount of light suffering to make me feel alive. I get the impression that balms are basically a moisturizer with witch hazel, some additional hype and fragrance.
The main source of my skepticism is that most of the "healing" and "disinfecting" components of these products are either totally unproven, have limited evidence for their efficacy (like witch hazel), or are specifically advised against if you have an actual cut. For example, this Mayo Clinic link on how to treat an abrasion. The advice is to rinse off the abrasion with water, not irritate it with harsh chemicals, and apply a barrier to prevent additional debris from entering. Alcohol is only mentioned in reference to disinfecting an instrument, not the abrasion itself. Basically: get rid of any foreign materials from the wound and let your body take care of it.
G_Huck had some yellow and black one that look similar here.
Any head shavers who use a Headblade, or anyone that has tried the Personna Twin Pivot Plus blades. What are your thoughts? I just got an adapter to use them in the Headblade and want an idea of how they perform before I commit to 100 of them.
For crimp on pumps you can replace the pump with one of these and spray it into a smaller vial... Perfume dispenser pump
I think there's a lot of association between safety razor blades and heavy metal cover art, wrist-slitting, and cutting cocaine. And also it's pretty easy to gravely wound yourself if you're stupid while you're loading your razor - imagine an old man with the shakes trying to do that. Cartridges were seen as a Huge step forward in user safety.
It's not sexy but this travel bowl is what I like. You can buy the "slow feeder" type of you want extra nubs. Normally I leave the lowest level collapsed so that I have that extra ridge.
I recommend the Stirling starter set. I suggest one of the three soaps be unscented and the brush be synthetic
I also recommend vanicream Face wash Washing your face before shaving and after shaving can help cut down irritation for people like me with medical skin conditions.
Hi! I've been a cartridge/electric shaver my whole life but I'm ready to make the switch to wet shaving. I got an Amazon gift card and was looking at the beginner kits there and found this one. Thoughts? It's a little pricey but like I said, gift card so I'm willing to go for it if it's good. The reviews are good and I even found shaving kit reviews off site that mentioned it.

I'm a huge fan of Prep Derma. While I prefer to avoid Amazon in preference for small vendors, this is what it is: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01I40AQI8/
I've been wanting to get a good shave but have been unable to get a good lather. I use a boar hair brush from Omega and LUSH's Prince shaving cream, mixing them in a normal bowl, not a specialized lathering bowl or whatnot. It seems to me that the cream is more getting stuck in between the bristles, rather than making a lather. As someone who's frankly just getting started, would this be more a problem with the brush, the cream, the bowl, or technique? Any help is appreciated.
Hello r/Wetshaving. I'm new to the sub and to the hobby, but I'm glad to be here!
I've a few questions. One is a gear/thought check and the other is advice. I've gone through the wiki's here and on u/wickededge.
Gear check; I'm going to be purchasing a straight edge, strop, bowl, and brush. I think I'll be going for a u/roctraitor sight unseen, to get in at a cheaper price point before splurging on something nice. Does that make sense? Any other recommendation?
With the bowl and brush, I'm thinking the opposite. Splurge now, because regardless of my final shaving preference, a good lather will be divine. Obviously badger seems to be the choice, but what's with the silvertip? Just a bit nicer? Also, does one just glue the knot into a handle of choice? Is there a common bowl recommendation?
Now for advice; I am flat overwhelmed by soaps, scents, aftershave, etc. I know that it is common advice to grab some samples and go, but even the sample page at Maggards is ~30 entries deep between companies, lines, etc. I'm not even sure what questions to ask here. What companies excel at what? I'm sure I can track down a scent I like (lavender, grapefruit, and amber are my go to's) but I'm sure each companies line is objectively and subjectively disparate. So, any insight at all will be greatly appreciated!
Sorry for the long beginner's post, it's just that every aspect of the hobby is layered and intricate.
Thanks in advance!

I have a great barber. For years he's held a weekly standing appointment for me on Mondays even though its technically his day off. He gives great haircuts but I'm not wild about his choice of blades. He uses Lord (green) exclusively. They are serviceable but I don't especially like them.
He got really excited about picking up 100 Lord Cool blades for $8 and gave me a tuck. First shave was this morning and it just felt a little harsh. I don't know if it was the sharpness, the coating, or what else, but my face feels irritated. Not sure if I'll continue using these.
I'm getting a little more used to the Trafalgar T2. I wish it splayed a little better, but isn't bad on paintbrush strokes.
Brush Recommendation request: (reposting in Daily questions thread as requested)
I currently use a cheap brush I bought off of Amazon 3(?) years ago and yearn for something more. I see videos of brushes producing magnificent lathers that this brush simply cannot replicate. I’m not a rich man, so price is certainly a factor but am interested to see what y’all recommend.
Link to what I use now: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003WR3QSG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_imm_t1_2VYTFb5KDCX6H
I know some people don't like to order shaving supplies on Amazon, but LPC is still available here: https://www.amazon.com/Barrister-Mann-Latha-Shaving-Limon/dp/B01DAN6E44/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1473453757&sr=8-3&keywords=barrister%2Band%2Bmann
Soap: B&M Leviathan (Sample)
Brush: Maggard Synthetic 24mm
Blade: Astra SP
Razor: Merkur 180
Post: Leviathan (Sample)
So firstly I'd love to thank you all for recommending the synthetic brushes from Maggard. Absolutely fantastic bang for your buck. Really good backbone on this thing too, I got awesome coverage without it being sloppy and soft.
When I last wetshaved (about 8-9 years ago), synthetics were considered absolute dumpster quality. So first thing I did when I got back into the hobby was to buy this off Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Parker-Safety-Razor-Silvertip-Included/dp/B00LEU3PJS/ref=sr_1_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1477001306&sr=8-2&keywords=silvertip It's been okay, but on the soft side and it seems to hold onto soap scum no matter how thoroughly I rinse it post-shave. But this synthetic was really fantastic. And I fell in LOVE with the Leviathan soap. Super slick, and it smells SO good. I went a little bit too enthusiastic and did a third pass (ATG like an idiot) without reloading the brush, and I nicked the crap out of my chin as a result. Lesson learned for next time.
Do the trade and rebuy Hallows off of Amazon. To me, Imperiale is like Beaudelaire without the mousse de saxe - very green. Aromatique is a more "fresh", brighter scent. Both are great
Here's an Amazon link to the mirror in the picture. I really like it, but will note one design weakness. The mirror mounts onto a hidden bracket attached (per manufacturer's instruction) to the wall via two screws.
I found it very awkward to mount directly to the wall, and was skeptical about the ability of said two screws (very close to one another) attached to sheet rock to withstand over time the torque generated by the mirror's articulated arm. So I attached the mirror to a block of wood, and mounted the wood to the wall using four mount points, as seen in the picture.
Amazon has a deal for 100pk of Gillette SharpEdges.
picked up 2 100pks of them
Not sure if this applies to you, but about a year and a half ago, out of nowhere, I started experiencing frequent - bordering on chronic - neck pain. I didn't do anything really, hadn't strained it at work or exercising (lol), I just happened to wake up one day with an incredibly sore neck -- and from that day on it would creep in time to time. I always used to sleep on a pile of pillows, couldn't ever get enough of them. Anyway, I moved from that to my singular big foamy pillow. Seemed nice at first, but then it seemed I had to sleep on my back or risk aggravation (and I don't like sleeping on my back).
Fast forward a few months, got a massage, still had issues. At my wit's end, I decided to purchase a memory foam pillow on Amazon. Since buying my pillow about 10 weeks ago, I've woken up with a stiff neck exactly one time, and that was because I decided to fall asleep on some heavenly feeling hotel pillows.
TL;DR: Not sure it will help you, but getting this pillow solved my one and a half year battle with a sore neck.
Cherry Semogue Owners Club (SOC) on sale at Amazon $57
SOC badger is on sale again at Amazon for $57.
I'll also jump on the Philips One Blade bandwagon in this situation, assuming he's not interest in "BBS" but merely an adequate stubble reduction.
My father-in-law was on blood thinners last year and I bought several wet/dry electrics for him to try. An inexpensive one that worked reasonably well for the price is this SweetLF razor from Amazon. Basically a clone of a Norelco 4100 at half the price and it uses a standard cell phone USB socket to recharge (vs. a Norelco charging scheme).
If you go looking for a wet/dry electric they do perform better with shave cream (vs. just water, or dry) but look for something with a high speed: at 13,000 CPM for a 'foil' (reciprocal) razor or a "turbo mode" for a rotary razor.
Maggards has bad prices for bulk blades.
Go for Amazon: $23 for 100. https://www.amazon.com/Oclock-Platinum-Double-Safety-Blades/dp/B07D7M8BH6/ref=sr_1_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1548709299&sr=8-2&keywords=gillette+7+o%27clock+super+platinum
Reliable vendor and fulfilled by Amazon.
I am pretty prone to breakouts as well and I find that using two products every morning has helped out tremendously. I start off with this skin cleanser to remove the excess oil from my face and lightly clean the skin before using this face scrub to clear out my pores completly. I also have a prescribed acne face cream, but find I don't need to use it that often since I started this routine. What's great is you can do it in the shower, so I just keep both bottles there and use them in my morning shower routine.
I don’t know about your second question, but there are very few blades available for the Best Razor Ever (the HydroMagic). I use these.
I would say go for the BT. Keep in mind that the hardware store paint scraper blades aren't the best for shaving. General consensus is the GEM PTFE coated are the best. For example:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001F0RC5K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_OGVhFbDTNQ5V0
Personna hair shapers are readily available. I'm waiting on some Kismet blades to arrive from Germany.
Personnas are a bit harsh for me for the first few shaves but they later begin to smooth out.

Finished The Forever War last weekend and loved it! Working my way through Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. I'm keeping with the sci-fi binge and this little novel won't take me too long.
I've got a 12+ hour round trip drive to see my parents and siblings this weekend. It'll be my last chance to see any of them before Christmas and I move away for my new job. I've got audiobooks for On Writing and Revival by Stephen King to keep the drive busy.
I am reading the [Meditations by Marcus Aurelius(https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meditations). An amazing work. I'm really enjoying his stoic philosophy, although his constant reminders that we're going to all die sooner rather than later is a bit of a drag.
I get that. If you are feeling really gung-ho, here is a decent guide to deleting the majority of the data Google has on you.
If you use an Android device, here is a thread on open source alternatives to popular apps.
Now, if we could put this July slump behind us, and start playing good baseball again, that'd be great.
But August is the fucking dog days around here. He'll have to settle in, and it might take a while.

<strong>Year of Wonders: A Novel of the Plague</strong>
>When the plague visits an isolated village in the English countryside, a housemaid named Anna Frith emerges as an unlikely heroine and healer. Through Anna's eyes we follow the story of the fateful year of 1666, as she and her fellow villagers endure a self-imposed quarantine to keep the disease from spreading. As death reaches into every household and villagers turn from prayers to murderous witch-hunting, Anna must find the strength to confront the disintegration of her community and the lure of illicit love. As she struggles to survive and grow, a year of catastrophe becomes instead annus mirabilis, a year of wonders. Inspired by a true story, Year of Wonders is a richly detailed evocation of a singular moment in history. With stunning emotional intelligence, Brooks blends love and learning, loss and renewal into a spellbinding and unforgettable read.
Historical fiction, which gives great insights into the lives and times of everyday people in the middle ages, set at a very trying moment in history.
FYI, 1666 was also the year of the Great Fire of London, where over 87% of all houses were destroyed. It truly was a hot time in the old city that night. 😕
Aha, have you ever tried silicone ones? My partner uses these Hush Plugs and swears by them for blocking out my snoring noises!
Here's mine, packaging looks to be updated.
Performance wise, lathers really easy and quick, not as slick as current artisans but equivalent to Tabac or Palmolive. It's just very drying post shave, like other old school soaps/creams.
Genuine Leather Double Edge Safety Razor Zippered Travel Case with Compartment for Blades Too - from Parker Safety Razor Saddle Brown https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DCDOSZY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_3T0B671D93NE67WX4QEM
I just bought this case for my razor. It holds the razor, blades and probably for a brush.
Shaving Brush Travel Case, Shave Brush Holder Stand with Adjustable Height Compatible Most of Shaving Brushes by Anplus (Brush not Included) (Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07P9QMM9Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_EEFHQDCJ4QNSDFDBK8VY?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
And this tube for my brush. But like others said, take cheap stuff, probably a synthetic brush since they dry quick. Another thing to note is that if you’re going by air DE blades need to be in checked luggage. So if you’re flying with only a carry on, a cartridge or disposable and some canned goo may be the better option.
I started thinking about the hair because my fiancé did a bit of research a couple of years ago and started going 2 or 3 days between washes and it's done wonders for her long hair. She uses dry shampoo on off days. I looked into it for myself last year and found an anecdotal article of a barber telling men they don't need to wash at all, just rinsing and thoroughly drying every day is enough, so I tried that. After about 2 weeks my fiancé noticed I had started getting a bit of dandruff, so I started washing once a week. I noticed after about 4 days it would get a little greasy, so eventually settled on 2nd of 3rd day. On my off days it still gets fully wet and dry, and I use a scalp brush with silicone bristles every day to agitate and exfoliate the scalp, one of these
The laundry detergent came about last year when we had a baby and my fiance's mum stayed with us for 4 weeks and took over all household chores while we focused on learning to be parents, and she slagged me off for using the "recommendation" on the box for how much powder you need for a full load; she also complained that because I stuff the machine full that I'm not leaving space for things to actually jumble around and hit each other to break up the dirt; she also complained that we were using the full wash cycle that took 2 hours, so we;
* started using a "daily quick" 30 minute wash because nothing is heavily soiled or caked in mud
* experimented and got down to maybe 2/3 size of powder scoop (experimenting with different quantities until the nice smell was there slightly and the armpits didn't smell like yesterday's sweat)
* fill the machine leaving a gap at the top big enough to freely put your hand in and wave it around in the top 20cm or so (front loading machine)
I use a small under sink organizer which nicely fits 12 tubs per "drawer" personally. I keep my primary rotation of soaps there and off-season/duplicates/out-of-rotation soaps go in a closet; no need to keep it all in the bathroom!
I've heard of people finding containers at a dollar store, but I've never checked there.
Sorry 2 questions, single post.
That's PSA-backed, you want the non-PSA stuff. Something like this, from whatever vendor you prefer.
For reference, PSA = pressure sensitive adhesive, aka thin glue. Since we don't want to permanently glue our film to our substrate (instead we want to use water to get it to adhere temporarily), we want the non-PSA-backed version.
This and every other aspect of using film are covered in great detail in the lapping film thread on B&B that I referenced earlier.
Yep. I ordered these ones from Amazon. I think they're just about the perfect size. The spoon grabs just enough for a shave and it fits neatly in the tub.
Yep, any silicone sealant / adhesive will do it. If you dont already have a tube of it lying around from previous DIY, you can get packs this size
Put about a pea sized blob of it on the base of the knot, give it a twist when seating it to spread the silicone around, then give it 24-48 hours to cure.
What about a small set of infant bottle cleaning brushes? Some of the smaller ones might work for you. Something like this:

Just to make sure I'm not crazy, this is what we're talking about, right? 8oz for $16 seems almost too good to be true. /u/jdubba, this looks to be sold through Amazon, but it was annoyingly hard to find
This is the one that I bought. Fulfilled by Amazon but sold by Maple Prime.
I am curious why you say 5/8, since your Gold Dollar (the only razor you own?) is a 6/8?
Get yourself a nice Boker Elite off Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IINBQAY/) and have it shipped directly to a reputable honer to be sharpened for shaving. I can take care of that if you want. PM me.
I got it from Amazon: Armaf Club de Nuit Intense Man
Looks like the price has gone up a few dollars ($30 now instead of $25) but it's still dirt cheap as far as frags go. The price fluctuates for some reason, not sure why.
sample pack of what exactly? creams? you are better of buying a single cream. If I were starting again, I would go with this one. Or you can get samples from stirling soaps as well.
Do you have a brush? I would say get maggard(ebay or maggard razors website) synthetic or fendrihan (amazon) synthetic to begin with. get a blade sampler from tryablade.com.
That mug is dope. I have been using a metal bowl from Amazon but haven’t yet try to smoosh into the bottom of its pretty smooth bottom, I think I may try tomorrow though. I think I saw other folks say they spoon out the entire sample into the bottom for a week’s worth of shaves (or scoop the remainder back out when swapping), so maybe that might help. Good luck to you!
I don’t know if you are a front pocket type, but I have really enjoyed mine with this form factor. The one I have had Kevlar sides but I can’t find one like that on Amazon today.
Edit, fixing the link
It looks like it's still in stock on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Barrister-Mann-Tallow-Shaving-Leviathan/dp/B01LXXAVGE/ref=sr_1_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1522055369&sr=8-2&keywords=barrister+and+mann+leviathan
Perma Sharp is my favorite blade. I bought a 100 pack of them about a year ago from Amazon, and I was winding down on that so I reordered from Amazon.
The old blade and package is on the left and the new version is on the right. The new version is totally unmarked on both sides of the blade, which I can't recall ever seeing on any blade.
Edit: here's the listing I bought the blades from:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009BS5CUA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The blades are totally different in packaging and appearance. Did they change this much, or did I get the wrong blades? The seller's picture in the listing was exactly like the old version.

Someone over on r/fragrance gave me this idea. 2mL fit perfectly
I should add I have curly facial hair. I get ingrown hairs. nobody taught me how to shave so i just been doing it poorly. its not that bad, but it could be worse once more facial comes in. I was looking for things good for sensitive skin. With that info, does it matter. Is it still good? I bought these blade https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003BWQX46/ref=ox_sc_act_title_4?smid=A262S395NXGG8Z&psc=1
Im planning on getting this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003LW4L2W/ref=crt_ewc_title_oth_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
I just electric shave right now. No prepartion or anything and my skin is terrible in my chin and jaws and i notice starting on my neck cuz hair is coming in. I want to stop it from happening. Does it matter what type? I was told that was the best one I want a cheaper one.
I’ve had this small electric kettle for tea for about 3 years. I’ve used it pretty much 2-4 times every weekday and it’s still going strong. That’s about as strong a recommendation as I can give. I use it a shitload, it still works.
A mystery? I remember looking at AoS razors once... if it is Baili, it was probably marked up 5-10x. ;) I'm not sure if Baili makes a whole lot of TTO varieties, but does it look anything like this?
I might look at this one instead.

A mild razor that will still give you a nice close shave, as long as you make sure to get your angle right.
Usually you're going to see stearic acid in the top 3 ingredients, tallow somewhere high (unless it's vegetarian), and potassium hydroxide higher than sodium hydroxide.

You're not lion, it's true!
Here's another LPH option:
That one's a bit lighter on the value equation though!
Hi, new to wetshaving. Today I used a viking razor for the first time in a while and had a painful experience. My neck and chin were nicked and the have significant razor burn now. Here's what my process was:
Any advice? I am now out of blades so would these on Amazon work? What shaving cream/gel/etc would work well with my skin type? Or maybe my technique was wrong?
Any help at all would be appreciated, thank you!!!
I purchased these off Amazon and they should arrive tomorrow. I can let you know how they work, but I'm guessing it should be the perfect size. Still probably too small to lather in, but I might give it a try.
Here in Canada, every pharmacy chain has their own his brands. I assume it's the same in the US. Even Amazon has their own house brand
What did you do to get it to work?
You can always get this thingie
if problems persist.
I like Jack Black Pure Clean Daily Facial Cleanser. And before discovering artisan soaps, their Beard Lube was my go-to shave product. My wife bought me my first bottle of Beard Lube for Father's Day about 3 or 4 years ago because she thought the name was funny.
Meditations by Marcus Aurelius. Came as a recommendation from another user. Have to do my reading long before my son wakes up, because if I try to do it after he goes to sleep, I don't get very far before I'm out as well.
I'm reading Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics. I'm teaching a seminar focusing on the evolution of ethical thought, and I find rereading the source material to be helpful to remind me of anything I may have forgotten.
Rereading these ethical works will probably take up all my weekend reading until the end of the semester. Should be interesting.
I use this razor with Dorco New Prime Platinum Double Edge Razor Blades I buy in packs of 100 from eBay. I currently use barbasol shaving cream (I know) and am looking to improve my equipment.
My facial hair can be described as very "hard". If you were tweezing a hair, it's more likely to break off than come out from the root. I think these Dorco razor blades aren't doing the job and I'd like to have something different. I have no clue what the different type of razor blades are. Can someone suggest some double edge razor blades to try?
I recently had to buy a 5-blade razor while traveling and was amazed how quick and easy shaving was. I have good form but it takes multiple swipes to shave a portion of my face, and the hair never goes as low as this 5-blade razor does.
In addition, I'd appreciate a recommendation on a better shaving cream. I had a few shaving pucks but they all irritated my face so I went back to the barbasol. I have a tool to apply the shaving cream already.
I'm looking to buy my first Shaving Brush and Cream (I've previously used canned foam and the Gillette Transparent Gel (which I havent really enjoyed)).
I've been 'Wet Shaving' the last 2 years (with said products) so not a complete beginner per-say, but want an easy brush/cream.
Is the typical Proraso brush and Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood the most popular/best priced choices for my first pair?
I'm UK/London based as well.
P.S Can I use literally any supermarket/cheap bowl to 'whip' the cream into? I dont necessarrily need to spend £10 on one online, when supermarkets have £1-£3 bowls...?
Lol! What a crazy thing. Smell is so weird in that way that it has this cool memory connection that feels eternal.
This is a bizarre one, but I come across the same smell every now and then of my late-grandparents’ basement. Sort of an oddly pleasing musty aroma of laundry, sawdust, and stale grease of some old equipment stored down there. It brings me right back to playing in that basement decades ago.
There’s a book called The Nose Knows I read a while back that has a few pages on this phenomenon. It’s super interesting because it can work in the other direction as well (as you’ve seen!). If I were to experience that smell every day for a while I would begin to lose that connection to the past. Almost like you need to guard the ones that mean something to you.
Super strange and fascinating little quirk when you think about it!
> iCloud on Apple devices makes Mac/iOS/Windows syncing easier than it might otherwise be
I run a nextcloud instance for this and it's seamless for syncing, so that's a help. I can also edit the files in the markdown-aware text editor on the nextcloud web interface, so it might even have a slight edge on iCloud.
> though FSNotes makes the mobile side as painless as I'd expect
Not directly interesting for you but maybe for Android user following along, Markor is a free and open source markdown editor for Android with a similar looking feature set. I use it extensively for SOTD editing when on mobile.
> if an appropriate tool was available
Let's see, maybe soon™ 😅
> If I ever adopt a new system, I'll just start from scratch, and keep this as an archive.
One of the main reasons why I'm still duplicating every SOTD in the app rather than opportunistically using it when on mobile and using pure markdown on desk/laptop is because of the database that I can use to populate my den and my SOTD log in the webapp (Also, some of the CI tests of my app use a backup of my actual SOTD db to test entry, analyses, etc. It also helps to have a large-ish data set to find out when I write a dumb SQL query that doesn't scale)

An extra mild Weishi 9306. Consider buying a Weishi Adjustable, if you enjoy the twist to open action. If you'd like to try a 3 piece, I suggest the Parker Semi Slant. Otherwise, wait a little longer, buy a nice vintage or something.
These are my favorite. In fact, I prefer them over most DE razors, and can use them fairly comfortably for 15+ days growth even.
I am sure you can find them for cheaper if you look on amazon/ebay. These are made in Poland.
