Hello Everyone!
This is Evan from Urban Hydroculture. Since I started selling my Kratky lids on Etsy almost a year ago now a lot of individuals have asked me when I was going to make a more durable lid that was 100% food safe. I am happy to announce that after months of looking for production partners within the United States that I am able to launch these new AeroGarden Kratky lids on Amazon Prime!
These lids are laser cut in acrylic and are opaque so as to prevent algae growth in a Kratky jar. If you have never used a Kratky jar and are an AeroGarden owner these systems can really help plants that are struggling underneath a canopy of a larger plant by breaking them out of the AeroGarden and putting them in a jar to the side of the system where they can still get light from the LED panel.
I wanted to also remind y'all that the design for my 3D printed Kratky lid is still available for free on Thingiverse if you happen to have a 3D printer!
I almost never buy the actual pods. Usually I just replace the sponge with either rockwool (you can even get round rockwool, but it needs to be trimmed a bit: https://www.amazon.ca/Grodan-Rockwool-Plant-Plugs-50-Pack/dp/B0030KJUQC). I've also cut up kitchen sponges and stuffed them in there, but rockwool is ideal. You can actually make about 2 or 3 pod refills out of one round plug so they last a while. So you really dont even need round ones tbh.
For seeds I just buy them where ever. Sometimes I just take a cutting and stuff it in rockwool, depends on the plant.
You can also 3d print pods. I realize not everyone has a printer but that has worked for me. Otherwise I take an older plant and run a utility blade along the spines of the pod to cut off all the roots then just pull the plant out. Usually the pod survives. But if you don't remove the roots first it will probably destroy it.
You can also buy larger bottles of nutrients from aerogarden. I also have used other brands such as a special tomoto hydroponic blend. Lots of options there.
well, it started as a joke with my family and I just started so I don't know if it will work. I bought this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08MYVFDT1?pf_rd_r=Y30G5X85CCPDT7G51Z4N&pf_rd_p=5ae2c7f8-e0c6-4f35-9071-dc3240e894a8&pd_rd_r=30561722-a409-4a63-b986-95d52c4c5457&pd_rd_w=JmoNR&pd_rd_wg=HcWqV&ref_=pd_gw_unk&th=1

Then I glued a small piece of plastic drain pipe inside of the box. I installed the pipe so I could put a bubble Stone in the bottom of the pipe so as the bubbles rise they would circulate the water in addition to adding oxygen. If I can figure out how to post picture in a message I could show you. Unfortunately my computer skills are not the best. Of course I also drill the holes for the pots.
Heads up all, that's not an Amazon link, looks like it could be malware.
Here's a real Amazon link to a Harvest that is actually on sale: https://www.amazon.com/AeroGarden-Harvest-Elite-360-Stainless/dp/B07CKNWH1B
Heads up all, that's not an amazon link, looks like malware.
Here's a real Amazon link to a harvest that is on sale:
https://www.amazon.com/AeroGarden-901110-1200-Harvest-360-Black/dp/B07CKNX6C6
It is mylar stuff: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZ72PAH . I got it for another project and just cut it to fit and put some tape on top. It is a little janky but the plants seem happy and light bleed does not illuminate my whole area.
You could buy replacement sponges (cheap ones). You would only need enough to hold the seed. Each sponge could be cut into three pieces I think. Hydroton can be big. You might need to pick out smaller pieces.
https://www.amazon.com/Aerogarden-Compatible-Sponges-Eco-Friendly-Hydroponic/dp/B07SGB52DT
Try 811 Copper 4E Fungicide. I had spotting and browning on my strawberry plants and this took care of it.
Just a heads up y'all, that ain't an amazon link.
Black harvest is actually cheaper on the Aerogarden site (free shipping): https://www.aerogarden.com/harvest-base.html
Harvest elite is also on sale (same price on Amazon and AG site): https://www.amazon.com/AeroGarden-Harvest-Elite-Stainless-Steel/dp/B07CKVMXHR
I had the same. The effect was good when I used in a basil that was almost dead, it survived. But since my apartment is small and the plants are in the middle of the living room, the pink light was annoying me. I got some bulbs that are white yellow-ish. The result is amazing. My peperomias that are usually a bit slow to grow are putting out plenty of new leaves during the Canadian winter. :O I got this one: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B073G2JQTZ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_vV5B82WBgutvw
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DK5F5HG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_i_GOvaGb5ZK9SY4?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
It’s crazy quiet and only 1 watt. Perfect for these types of gardens.
**the unit itself is quiet. You may have to tinker with the placement of the airstone a bit. Can’t avoid the natural bubble noise either.
To add to this, most bti products are sold for mosquito control rather than gnats, but obviously work the same for both. It's just easier to walk into a big box store and find bti in mosquito products.
I've only used mosquito bits, but bonide has a product that looks promising: https://www.amazon.com/Bonide-550-Mosquito-Beater/dp/B000HCUKCY
We have hard water where I live so I’ve been using distilled water and am having really good luck with my Thai basil.
I also purchased this general hydroponics feed system. Think I might replace the aero food with that. I just wanted to see if I could get anything to sprout first before I swap over to the other stuff.
Flora series incloud Flora Gro(2-1-6) , Flora Micro(5-0-1) and Flora Bloom(0-5-4) 16oz Pints - General Hydroponics
Ok, cool. You're not over adding stuff.
Additives can help with root rot. Bubblers make things better too.
I've had this air pump on both of my gardens. Never had a problem. I mounted them to the light pole at the first clamp using bailing wire. Just made a small loop above the clamp with a second loop for the bubbler clip. You have to keep the bubbler above the water line. There should be holes in your grow deck for the air lines. Just get the stone underwater and you're golden.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HKGB88M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_6TR51D3VCYQGBVFRRX3D
Bubblers go six months to a year before you need a new air stone. As long as you have that fine set of bubbles going, it's working. Keep an extra stone on hand and you'll do ok. There are those who say air just oxidizes nutrients. I can't speak to this, but one of my gardens is working on day 600+ and the peppers still produce plenty.
Happy gardening!
I too switched from the Miracle-Gro nutrients to flora series from General Hydroponics. When it comes to tomatoes, it is indeed a game changer. I have found you can stick with the AeroGarden nutrients if you want until you see the first blooms. Then switch to Flora series blooming and ripening mix. Your tomato production will go up like a bat out of hell. I'm just using the mix ratios on the back of the bottles.
Also instead of the graduated cylinders and pipettes, I recommend getting one of these for each of the three floor series bottles: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08HWKXT6C?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
This is the one I got from Amazon
VIVOSUN pH and TDS Meter Combo, 0.05ph High Accuracy Pen Type pH Meter ± 2% Readout Accuracy 3-in-1 TDS EC Temperature Meter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XKMH86J/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_3KSF55FVRX6JV0KH50FS?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Thanks so much for the tip re black hose vs. clear. And knowing that the tubing you purchased fits the holes for sure is so helpful. Now to find a pump that lives up to its "quiet" description! I'm considering AquaMiracle Lithium Battery Powered Portable 2-Outlet Air Pump. Since I have two Harvest units and a Farm XL 12-pod, I thought maybe a two-outlet pump might make things a little simpler to set up.
I found this on Amazon. Not sure what you're looking for but it's perfect fit with storage for supplies
I got them on Amazon when I ordered all the rest of my gear.
Here is what I ordered, but it doesn't look like it is available any longer: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07YFV1CZR
Literally any wide mouth mason jar will work. I've seen 12 packs at Walmart for cheap. When the time comes for me to add supplies, I'll buy locally instead of on Amazon now that I know what works.
i just bought this: Uniclife Quiet 20 Aquarium Air Pump Dual Outlet with Accessories for 5-30 Gallon Fish Tank
The pump is NOT as quiet as the ad copy implied. I can't hear it from more than about fifteen or twenty feet, but up close it is pretty loud. I feel sorry for fish in an aquarium that uses it.
On the other hand, it is doing a very nice job. It has two outlets (which are both serving airstones in the same garden, but I suspect there is eventually going to be another garden in my future. ;-)
I bought the extra tubing and stuff because someone elsewhere made the point that clear tubing can bring a lot of light into your tank, and cause algae. So black it is. It fits perfectly in the little holes with rubber plugs on the top (not the ones for the trellis, the other two).
Have a Bounty. Just bought this one: https://www.amazon.com/HITOP-Aquarium-Outlets-Aerator-Accessories/dp/B07RJ3XLM8
It's surprisingly quiet, all the noise actually comes from the airstones (rattling against the container or just the aeration of the water).
Came with 2 air stones, valve regulators, junction pieces, and more than enough tubing if you're placing it just next to your aerogarden.
I recently bought this set of empty spice jars and I'm pretty happy with them.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01NCLWU1G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_qyOXFb8HGK52G?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I wanted something that was cheap enough I wouldn't feel bad about losing them when I gift a jar of aerogqrden spices to friends or family. At under $1 per jar, these were great for me.
I bought it from Amazon. I recently bought 2 more and an additional aerogarden. I will set the aerogardens next to each other and mount/hang the lights so that each garden will get roughly 1.5 light, if that makes sense. Basically, one light is just not wide enough dimensionally to cover a garden.
This is great but I personally prefer to pre-fill a squeeze bottle (with measurements) and squeeze into a (reusable) small liquid measurement cup. It takes out the step of filling the syringe each time. Here is the one I use. This is the glass that I use, although I’m sure many people already have measuring cups.
Honestly I started just squirting the bottle straight into the reservoir after I used the Aerogardens enough to be able to eyeball it, and I do measure the liquid in the reservoir daily with a TDS to make sure all the plants are satisfied with their different nutrition requirements.
Use time foil or tape even cardboard around the stems. You can plant whenever if you monitor nutrients in water. Get a tds meter keep around 600 or so and plants will thrive.
Here is a cheap one that works well for me. You can plant as many plants as you want as long as they have nuts to eat
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073713G5F/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_VJkjFb3EE291V
This is the pod I settled on, after printing every version I could find.
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1203214
DIY pods can be filled with pre-made sponges from Aerogarden, Amazon, or your local hydroponics store. For Amazon, search for aerogarden sponges and you'll turn up a bunch of offerings.
Since it will get you through nine plants this might be your best option.
An option that just squeezes in place are Grodan RW108004 Rockwool, 50-Pack Macro Plant Plugs. They don't need a pod or cup. Price varies. One shop near me sells them for $20 per bag while another sells them at $10 per bag. Most of the sponges have a dimple for seeds to be placed in. Rockwool plugs, you just open a bit and put seeds in about a quarter inch below the top.
I think for the most part if you prune early and often, you can get some pretty successful tomatoes and basil in the harvest. If they still grow too tall, you can place them on the outside holes of the device and coerce them to grow more outwards through pruning so they go around the main light. I have a bounty but recently bought a harvest 360 for additional plants. There are tomatoes and peppers in there, so just in case I bought some additional grow lights to add supplemental light to the rest of the plant where the top light can't reach. I got this from amazon.
Aerogarden does sell an automated, auxiliary water tank. (Saw it on Amazon.) Haven't used one before, but it seems like this, or something like it, would suit your needs.
Honestly. I got a fake aero garden about 2-3 weeks ago. Was very excited and started searching for more but also reading.
I wouldn't get the areo garden at all.
You could get the knock off I have.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BCXWWGRP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I like it better than aero because it's slightly larger than the harvest but has a larger reservoir. I have a harvest slim also.
If money was no object I'd get the iHarvest unit with the extra row and side lights.
Grant you I'm still new to hydroponics but been gardening for too many years. Been researching Hydroponics non-stop for 3 weeks :)
Tu peux probablement en trouver sur amazon.
Assure-toi que ton modèle est compatible dans la description.

Celui-là est 50$ mais j'en ai vu d'autres moins cher il faut juste chercher un peu !
For what you paid, I'd keep it and purchase a light panel for $20 - $30 to hang above it. Something like this one, from Amazon. $19.99
https://www.amazon.com/Sunlike-Spectrum-Dimmable-Brightness-Hydroponic/dp/B09JYFRVT6/ref=sr\_1\_56\_sspa?crid=1XQNT2GNCLGML&keywords=led%2Bfull%2Bspectrum%2Bgrow%2Blight&qid=1665682464&qu=eyJxc2MiOiI3LjcyIiwicXNhIjoiNy4wNiIsInFzcCI6IjY...
Ignoring cost, I think the aerogarden food is better, particularly because you know the exact right amount to put in. With the miracle gro, I have had to experiment to figure out how much to dissolve in water before adding it. I have found the plants only tolerate a small amount before they get "burnt" by the chemical concentration being too high. Like a half teaspoon per gallon of water roughly, this is what I have.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000BZ8HNG
Main motivator of using this is that a box will last forever, I have used the same box for my houseplants and this aerogarden for coming up on 2 years. The aerogarden food is quite expensive for what it is, you're paying for the convenience.
I think this is the one I have but it said it works in any garden! LMK if there’s a different one you have in mind ☺️
Get these seeds and just re-use your baskets. You might need to get sponges too. They are available on Amazon as well. These get to 10-20 inches in height. Link
Oh hey! Haha EC pen is an essential to check how much nutrition is added to the solution.
They aren’t expensive and from where u live I can get one off Taobao. Something like this https://www.amazon.sg/TDS-Meter-Digital-Water-Tester/dp/B01FPG89CE
Every veg has its own recommended EC range like so: https://happyhydrofarm.com/ph-ec-hydroponic-vegetable/
If you started those tomatoes when you planted the lettuce then they are like 60 days oldish? Thats still pretty young. I had a tomato tree that live almost 2 years and I murdered because I was going on vacation/its care was getting too much.
Greens need regular replants. If you don't want Aerogarden pod prices or want something different like Tatsoi you can get planters for you own seeds. AeroGarden Grow Anything Seed Pod Kit (25-pod)
This DIY grow tent has a few benefits. My aerogarden is in my small apartment so the light is intense at night. I’ll probably cutout one side of the box and add a mesh film similar to this one on Amazon. Then put the mesh side facing (but not touching) a wall and put a small fan on my plants to improve air circulation. It helps plants grow quicker. It also prevents bugs and cats from getting into my plants.
As my plants grow and I have to raise the light I’ll probably look into finding a taller box. https://www.amazon.com/aerogarden-Harvest-Hydroponics-Observation-Growing/dp/B09MK3RXKK
I went dry powder nutrient. Way cheaper! This is what I use
https://www.amazon.com/MASTERBLEND-4-18-38-Complete-Combo-Fertilizer/dp/B072F2BL9D/
1L of aerogarden liquid nutrient can do 100 feedings for $25 bucks, but for the price u can get 2.5lbs of powder nutes that can feed 300-400 times. Even cheaper when you buy larger bulk.
You either mix what you need or make a small concentrated bottles to quickly mix with water like the aerogarden liquid nutes.
Alternatively, to prevent mold etc inside your open bottle of nutes just put it in the fridge.
https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B09TXQ191C?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details this fits the Areogarden Farm's.
5.5mm x 2.5mm 90 Degree Right Angle Male to Male Right Angle DC Power Adapter Cable Cord
Sure. So ppm is parts per million of “substance” in the water, other than water. Since you’re just putting nutrients into your water, you can measure the concentration of nutrients by using a ppm meter.
So instead of just following the “two caps every other week or whatever, you keep your nutrients at a level appropriate for the plants you have in there.
TDS Meter Digital Water Tester, Lxuemlu Professional 3-in-1 TDS, Temperature and EC Meter with Carrying Case, 0-9999ppm, Ideal ppm Meter for Drinking Water, Aquariums and More https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079DN9DRS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_T778FF50VFAZ0TBFAKJ6?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I am not sure messing with the pump is a great idea due to it being programmed by AeroGarden to maximize the chance your plants will survive.
To your question about air stones, when I am long term growing in the AeroGardens I always use air stones (right now I am starting seeds for the garden and air stones are not required). My house is extremely hot (getting upto 85 F during the day) between April to Oct, and as such the oxygen level in the water is super low, cause a lot of root rot. I run an extremely over sized air system as I am adding air to 4 harvests and 2 bounties and I can run the pump at a lower settings to minimize the noise from it. Adding air does make the whole setup a bit noisier but it's still easy to ignore.
There are cheaper options for a single AeroGarden setup be below is the air pump I use:
hygger Quietest Aquarium Air Pump, Adjustable Oxygen Pump 2 Air Outlets Ultra Silent Powerful Aerator Pump 160GPH/255GPH 5W/10W https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YDFVPMS/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_A81N021SPDM395HPT5CF?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
There is a group called Urban Hydroculture that has some designs a few mods for AeroGardens (mostly for the Harvest), and they may be a good point of inspiration if you interested in modding your AeroGarden.
You can make your own out of cheap sponges without the scrub pad. You could buy a pack of 12 for 7.99 and make 5 out of each sponge. Amazon - Sponges
I got some cheap random off brand sponges from Amazon. They work just fine. These ones. They look a little too small for the cages at first, but once they absorb water they're fine.
I will grab a ppm meter. Any that you suggest? Also I'm using General Hydroponics Flora Series:... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09M942WYB?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share For my nutes. They were working wonderfully but I'm wondering if they're too strong.
The air pump is inside the base. It's typically black, about an inch and a quarter round, and about two and a half inches long.. Similar to this item.
https://www.amazon.com/Hxchen-High-Power-Aquarium-Small-Sphygmomanometer/dp/B07V1T4JN4/ref=sr_1_7?crid=1U5KT703UMLJQ&keywords=3v+air+pump&qid=1650988550&sprefix=3v+air+pump%2Caps%2C60&sr=8-7
I don't know what the running voltage is for the Aerogarden model as I've not had a pump failure that didn't also take out the fluorescent lamp.
I use this:
General Hydroponics Flora Series: FloraMicro, FloraBloom, FloraGro - 3-Part Hydroponic Nutrient System, 1 qt. Bottles https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09M942WYB/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_TBGQ10CHVCE98KHRDA77?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
And everything thrives, including my houseplants and orchids.
Perhaps 3DPrintTech.
First I'd try your local Craig's list. Shipping 3D printed parts is overly expensive.
I'd recommend my son, but he still hasn't finished the stands for my DIY garden.
Have you tried Cal Mag? Two capfuls for my Farm 12 XL, every two or three days! Bloom City Professional Grade Ultra Pure Cal-Mag Growing Fertilizer, Quart (32 oz) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073ZNQWCM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_PENCBEMEHT8SJ9S6QFJC?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
For the cost of a sponge and all the other potential chemical issues… it’s cheaper just to get replacement “sponges”
Accoorder Seed Starter Grow Sponges for Aerogarden, PH-Balanced Refill-Seed Pods Replacements for Indoor Hydroponic System,50 Pack, Brown https://www.amazon.com/dp/B095HJ7RHT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_KDBJX7GC6Z1M6CR0R73R
I think the issue I’m seeing is related to some sort of nutrient issue, but I may be completely wrong. I’d also be open to advise on how to figure out the ratio of nutrients using GH fertilizers. I’m only using FloraMicro currently because I don’t know how I should be using all three together.
Here’s a link to what I have: General Hydroponics Flora Grow, Bloom, Micro Combo Fertilizer Set, 1 pint (Pack of 3) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01I4U0NYK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_XR1C71RHB8VT5R3EDCX4?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I have relatively hard water and just use it straight. However, if you want to stick with distilled a better investment would be buying a water distiller on amazon. I use this one for water for my carnivorous plants and it's paid for itself and I'm not wasting another plastic bottle every time.
Switching Power Supply Input : 100-240v 50/60hz 1.5a Output : 24v 2.0a
The adapter size is 6.3mm x 3.0mm
I use this one, but it sparks a bit when you plug it in… TKDY 24V 2.5A AC DC Adapter 60W Power Supply for LED Strip Light, 3D Printer, LCD Monitor, with 5.5 x 2.5 mm and 11 PCS DC Connector, Compatible with 24Volt 0-2500mA Devices. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07W6VPWD4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_G1V58D2XMYS1KGP59822?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Looks like mine's discontinued, but search for full spectrum T5 LED. This one looks promising:

I'd just pick up another grow light for the kratky jars
Maybe this unit to cover all 3 plants if you can afford it https://www.amazon.com/VIVOSUN-Samsung-Dimmable-Sunlike-Spectrum/dp/B08GNZ7M74 here's a $100 unit as well which should be enough for those plants if you wanted to save money https://www.amazon.com/VIVOSUN-Samsung-Dimmable-Sunlike-Spectrum/dp/B08772CTK7
Hi
Did you ever find an alternative replacement ?
Much in the same boat as you at the moment.Been reading about an adapter you can by to fit an Edison Globe but can't seem to find for Model# 200629
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07D6KVMN1/ref=sw\_img\_2?smid=A2J041QJF92UTH&psc=1
I bought these refill sponges from Amazon a little while ago. They seem to be holding up alright but it’s only been a few hours, time will tell!
I can’t find Waverly, but did you mean Wraxly?
I don’t. I can say that the lights are as bright as the aerogarden.
Yes the generic is a LYKO. Here’s the link from where I got it.
I bought a used Bounty Elite off ebay that was missing the power cord.
Got this on Amazon: TKDY 24V 2.5A AC DC Adapter 60W... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07W6VPWD4?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Comes with various connectors, specifically the 6.3mm x 3.0mm connector which fit fine, tho a bit snug compared to the regular one from other Bountys.
About to try out this combo:
General Hydroponics Flora Grow, Bloom, Micro Combo Fertilizer Set, 1 pint (Pack of 3) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01I4U0NYK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_3FH37T459HPF7594R7VF?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
The strips is a yellow paper and it just look like wet yellow paper. I want to say it look closer to 6
This seems like one of the best articles I found on savory. Seems like it can be used in/for a lot!
Once my plants roots are pretty established, I move them into something like this, https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07MF78PX9/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_NF03XY14H6TDJ712HNTT
I have some grow lights, and I add the same food. It keeps me from having to worry about the roots getting all crazy, too. Basically I use the AeroGarden as an incubator, and then move them so I can grow more stuff.
If not exactly that, maybe it will help you with search terms.. I still haven't really found what that piece is called, which makes it hard to find.
Monterey LG6332 Bacillus Thuringiensis (B.t.) Worm & Caterpillar Killer Insecticide/Pesticide Treatment Concentrate, 16 oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ANT611U/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_navT_g_GT3YCMGAF99TEJP1GW1H It's organic and harmless to people. Cheaper at garden centers. Mix it because I believe it's a concentrate.

Good luck to you as well! They are delicious
Aww poor kiddo haha. Even once you start tomatoes, they take about three months before you can eat your first tomato, so I'm sure the impatience wouldn't stop even once the herbs are done XD .
If you ever do decide you want another of this kind of thing, idoo is a cheaper knockoff brand that I've seen good reviews from, and their 10-pod version is compatible with Aerogarden's pod baskets. I noticed their price also just dropped by about $15 down to $68 after I ordered one a couple weeks ago pfffttt https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09638W4BY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s01?ie=UTF8&th=1
A youtuber I watch called Aerogarden Experiments tried growing that 42 day tomato, but the growth rate definitely wasn't even close to that fast haha. I think tomatoes just required patience. He's grown tomatoes just fine in normal-sized Harvest models too, so I don't think you need to buy a bigger version just to grow tomatoes.
How about the Liter-sized nutrients that AG provides? Still expensive maybe, but much better than $10 for 3oz LOL. It's about $2.12 per 3oz this way I believe. https://www.amazon.com/AeroGarden-Liquid-Nutrients-1-Liter/dp/B004M5NGJG/ref=sr_1_3?crid=3CF5B5SXWJRAA&keywords=aerogarden+nutrients&qid=1641633170&sprefix=aerogarden+nutrient%2Caps%2C166&sr=8-3
Also, spend the money on a root inoculant and watch your roots stay Lilly white. Dump a teaspoon of this stinky stuff in and friendly bacteria will go to war on behalf of your roots. Southern Ag Garden Friendly Biological Fungicide,16oz
https://www.aerogarden.com/blog/how-much-energy-does-the-aerogarden-use/ https://www.omnicalculator.com/everyday-life/electricity-cost
So running the numbers, the cost of an Aerogarden Harvest will cost about ~$24.00 USD to run not including nutrients, seed, sponges, water, pH materials which translates down to roughly $2.00 USD a month figuring at a cost of .12kwH. A head of lettuce usually takes ~30-45 days to get up to a harvestable size which means that, depending on your local prices, you've spent ~4.00 USD for six heads of lettuce in a Harvest just in electricity.
The other hidden cost: space. Six heads of lettuce, breed dependent, will seriously begin to crowd a Harvest. I grew Marvel of Four Seasons, a lettuce that got 12 inches across, outdoors in a Kratky setup and the indoor ones in my Harvest, well, they didn't grow as well because they simply didn't have the space. So really the "six" slots you have for growing are realistically more like two or three plus seedlings (and don't try to germinate seedlings during a growing cycle; the larger plants will outcompete them for resources).
So why do I continue to use my Aerogarden? It costs more than buying at a grocery (a lot of grocery vegetables are grown hydroponically), takes time to grow (vs grocery which more than likely has vegetables on demand), and requires at least some effort on my part to maintain (vs grocery where the effort is taken care of)?
My three Aerogardens are fun! I grow in Kratky setups that have LED lighting, require more frequent water changes, etc. The Aerogardens are comparatively fire-and-forget: I do an initial pH and occasionally check to see if the water levels need a boost. I generally just top off my Aerogardens and don't run into issues.
Amazon "universal" chargers with lots of tips will have you covered. The manual for your unit should tell you the polarity and voltage... Something like this:
SHNITPWR Universal Power Adapter 3V ~ 24V 1A 24W AC Adapter 3V 5V 6V 9V 12V 15V 18V 19V 20V 24V 500mA 1000mA Adjustable Power Supply Converter Transformer 100V-240V in with 14 Tips Polarity Converter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08YMM436S/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_QBWJM52KCGWP6WM8CDCA?psc=1
Saw this on Amazon specifically for the Aerogarden Harvest:

Have not tried it but looks like a good option. You could also DIY something with reflective material on the inside and and cardboard on outer.
I've had some success with these seeds from Amazon using the grow-anything kit, though I'm sure you could find a more reputable seed merchant.
I asked the same question, and this is what someone suggested. Posting this for 2 reasons. 1, to share. 2, to see if someone else has a better suggestion.
I use this and it's amazing!
General Hydroponics Flora Grow, Bloom, Micro Combo Fertilizer Set, 1 pint (Pack of 3) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01I4U0NYK/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_A29PYG0FEC9NQWHC3J26
1) Domes are for locking in humidity; anything that you can use that's hydrophobic will work. Little fast food dispenser cups that fit over the 1.75"/~44mm net cups will work fine. Doesn't need to be super tight, just has to allow the humidity levels in the dome to get as high as possible (I don't even use them).
2) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07867YYWD?ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details&th=1 Here's an example of a mass-produced net cup that'll fit into a US Aerogarden. I recommend measuring the diameter of the hole. Remember that inside vs outside diameter is a thing.
3) Grow sponges are basically sphagnum moss with a binder. Root riot is a very popular brand in the US which can be cut down to fit into the net cup. Just keep in mind that you want a grow sponge that will remain moist but never oversaturated-ly wet.
Aluminum foil is typically used to keep light from hitting the grow sponge. Nutrients + UV = algae, which isn't bad itself, but dead algae dramatically increases your chances of root rot. A cycled water system like the Aerogarden will ensure that pythium will end up evenly distributed in your water so don't neglect blocking light from your nutrient tank!
Your nutes are going to depend entirely on the plants. The easiest formulas are going to be a 10-10-10, which is 10 percent Nitrogen, 10 percent Potassium, and 10 percent Phosphorous. I prefer using Maxigrow for my greens which is a 10-5-14; that's plenty of nitrogen for most plants and enough phosphorous to encourage strong root growth. You'll want to stick to dry nutrients in the beginning; it's the easiest way to ensure you're getting nonorganic salts vs organic (which can foul your tank).
I use this system from amazon. it works amazing

> aerogarden provide adequate temperature control to make up for this
Aerogardens have no temperature control.
If you want to keep the temperature up, you could try using a seedling heater under the reservoir.
Looks like there’s a lot of algae/gunk in all the corners. amarandagasi is right — it’s due for a water change. And also some cleaning: the tank, around all the removable parts at the top. Keeping the hydroponic growing set up clean is a huge help in getting best results. Check the roots, if they are not white and healthy, that’s a huge contributing factor to health. If they are not beyond recover (based on how green some leafs are, I’d say so), once the water change and cleaning is done you should also trim off all the bad leaves so the plant can put all energy to healthy leaves.
It’s also true that cilantro, parsley, dill like others have said they all love wind and dry-ish soil. Fan at low speed will help make it stronger — other plants too. Ans you can see about having a slightly lower water levels than max. If other plants have well developed roots, you don’t have to have the water to the max line as long as enough of the root system is in the water. It all depends on what else is growing and how far along they all are.
Personally, I sympathize. I too use a lot of cilantro. Ans I’ve had tried growing cilantro a ton of different ways most of which not super successfully til recently. What I learned works best is growing it in a deep enough pot with high quality potting mix that’s not too wet and planting pretty thick. Or as microgreens and letting them grow to develop true leaves (2 weeks per batch). These were the only ways I could grow enough healthy cilantro to use. As an idea (in case someday you’d want to try) I made my own cilantro growing tray from black plastic mushroom containers kind of like this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08K1QCV45/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_3N45M5S1DV4KEDA4AQ9Y
Best of luck!
I don't remember the code. It was a random set of letters / numbers. Honey is a free app (chrome extension?) where on the checkout page you can tell it to try last known good coupon/promo codes. I havn't had it very long and it hasn't done a whole lot for me on Amazon but I ordered a set of knives from Messermeister and honey saved me 20$ with a promo code I didn't know about and 75$ on the Aerogarden. Almost $100 off two things i really wanted to buy for downloading a free app? Good ROI imo.
Here's the link to the app webpage.
It is called mountain meadow flowers.
I’m on using 4 pods out of 7.
The two in the front are called gazania and we’re in bloom up to two weeks ago. New buds are starting to grow. They bloomed for many weeks.
The back left is diathus but they are smaller.
The back and back right are snap dragons which are overgrown and I feel hinder the other flowers. I’m slowly trimming the back.
Look at my past posts to see more pictures.
keep in mind that the max height for the sprout light is 10", so you'd need to pick some short flower varieties.
amazon has this, but isn't specific to the sprout, so you'd probably need to look up each flower and check the height.
Do not remember the model names since I have put them in storage, I have two seven pods system. One connects to the Internet but it is hard to keep it connected. To be honest I am in tropical Central America, so I do very well growing vegetables in hydroponic tubes in my balcony. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B081R8Y258/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_RNNV81YGFZF65EX1Y1ZZ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 It is covered so they only get partial sunlight. Tomatoes, peppers, jalapeños, lettuce, basil, mint, oregano, parsley, mustard leaves, etc. grow very well hydroponically. I use grow lights only to germinate seeds.
I spent the money to buy a TDS and pH meter on Amazon.
VIVOSUN pH and TDS Meter Combo,... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XKMH86J?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
And I used a website for guidance on ideal levels
http://www.homehydrosystems.com/ph_tds_ppm/ph_herbs_page.html
I tried replacing a capacitor with one from Mouser, but my soldering skills are ass and I fried the board.
What I did was purchase a separate LED grow light panel and install it on bracket/pulley/rope/cleat, then just reuse the existing perfectly-fine water pump pod holder set up I had from the Aerogarden.
It would have been possible to pull power from the Aerogarden using something like this:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07Q3QCBTL/
But I just elected to put it on an independent lamp timer, since I had one lying around and a spare socket to put it in.
This setup has been working great. It's much better having the light on a pulley that I can raise & lower as I see fit.
I in fact gave more money to Monsanto for the LED panel, since I found it surprisingly difficult to find a light that wasn't sized for an industrial weed-growing operation, but that might be just my weak google-fu.
good idea...i bought these. set of three for $13 at amazon. the opening is thje perfect size to hold an AG grow basket. holds 8 oz of water, 8 inches tall, and is white plastic. not as pretty as a glass vase, but a lot harder to break and less likely to develop algae.
I opened a classic. Now I know what you have. The air pump is, essentially, an aquarium pump. You have a 120v electro magnet that attracts and repels a permanent magnet on an armature. One end is fixed in place. The other end has a diaphragm that moves up and down or in and out. The diaphragm fits over a round plastic piece that has holes and silastic flappers mounted to allow air in and block it so it can only go one way.
Forty years ago any decent tropical fish store would have had repair parts on hand. The bellows or diaphragm is cracked or worn through. If you have local fish stores, and take your parts in, maybe they can help.
Here is one example of a repair kit. I doubt its the correct size. https://www.amazon.com/Aqueon-68307-Repair-Quiet-Flow/dp/B01E0LWA84/ref=sr\_1\_6?dchild=1&keywords=aquarium+air+pump+repair+kit&qid=1632330692&sr=8-6
Bear in mind that this one is 5 volt.
My Sprout had an air pump similar to, but not identical to this one.
https://www.amazon.com/JOYLIT-adapter-Supply-Converter-Adapter/dp/B015G8E9KM/
This provides the same output as a pic I saw of the aerogarden's power supply, 24v 2A. If it fits, it should work fine. If you can verify on your unit that it takes 24v 2A, that would be even better.
I'm in Canada too and was thinking about buying the Vegehome. I spent the last few days researching AG options and bought this one off Amazon yesterday when they offered a coupon. https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07ZCVTTRS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It came to right around $100 and had great reviews and can be used with AG seed pods apparently. Haven't gotten it yet, but should have it up and running this week.
It reflects light back onto the plants so they have more light to help them grow. Aerogarden actually has light boosters.
AeroGarden Power-Grow Light Boosters https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004M5SDXK/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_99FEPAYC4CGB523VGV18
And the foil under the plants is covering holes (because I didn't want to buy caps, and keeping the light out so no algea grows. The holes are covered in painters tape first then foil on top.
I've ended up going for this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/VitaLink-Litre-Hydro-Grow-Water/dp/B013QKUB0Y/ref=sr_1_10?dchild=1&keywords=hydroponic+feed&qid=1630696457&sr=8-10
Someone specifically mentions Aerogarden in the Q&As.
All of them.
This is the one I started with and still use in my indoor Aerogarden and Kratky systems.
Ionic Hydro Grow
Has anyone tried this kit that looks sort of like Kratky by Aerogarden?
This one has been recommended by others and it’s worked well for me.
Dr.meter LX1010B Digital Illuminance/Light Meter, 0-100,000 Lux Luxmeter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004K0A7I6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_9WDP3Q8155H23XCGWVVW?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Thanks again. I've got that same black tubing kit so it doesn't seem like I'm far off. I just added that pump to my cart, hopefully it works better than the one I have.
