Strongly recommend against that lock. It's unbranded, overstock junk. The links are probably cheap round steel, maybe only a few mm thick. Bolt cutters will go straight through it no question.
Unfortunately there is no such thing as cheap security. To secure a bike in a shed I would expect to spend minimum $200/bike; I'd be using something like this. 14mm hardened chain, and 15mm shackle mini u-lock. No bolt cutter is getting through that. The small u-lock also makes it a bit harder to attack with a grinder. Chains, especially thick ones like this, are trickier to attack with a grinder too. Not impossible, but floppy chains are hard to grind since you need to tension the chain to properly cut it.
From Ottawa to Ashton there's gravel. It's not nice. It's not really pretty. It's not really fun. It is through woods. Look below the squiggle on the left. The squiggle area is nicer. It's through the woods, but it's kinda short.

Here is a little route I ride sometimes. As for the Osgood trail its plan nasty now. Lots of ATV's have wrecked it. Like riding on a washboard. I have a few other routes if interested.
EDIT: Earl Armstrong road is in bad shape so I would continue on Limebank to Letrim. Just heads up on Letrim.
This stand alone rack is amazing -> https://www.amazon.ca/Feedback-Sports-Cache-Storage-Silver/dp/B003PPDY32
Very sturdy, don't have to make any holes in the wall, I doubt it takes more space than a wall mount.
I have this lock for my bike and I like it. A bit pricey (and heavy to carry around) but worth it in my opinion for the feeling of security it gives me when I lock my bike up. There are other alternatives but I'd recommend some sort of u-lock with chain combination for maximum security.
The Prescott-Russell trail is very flat, straight, and quite an easy ride. Like a lot of paths, it has seen an uptick in cyclists and pedestrians/runners lately, but it's probably one of your best bets.
I still wonder about this, I'd love to see a chaotic group getting together for road rides. There was some interest from a Strava Group last year but I never saw any actual rides from it — besides a mountain one.

I wanted to do OBC, but didn't look at it fast enough last year. What I wanted were the fun rides. Of which they had a couple decent rides that you can sign up for, but if money was an issue, those "fun" rides were still fees. And, none seemed cheap. Turns out the Ottawa - Kingston isn't too pricy.
Definitely a solid goal in that case. There are quite a few routes nearby and you could do a couple back to back days to really get the feel of longer distance rides. If you are just starting to explore the area, there is a website called Ride With GPS that has tons of user generated routes to explore.

I picked up this guy from Amazon. Decent reviews for a cheap lock, although my bike is a bit of a beater so I just need a mild deterrent. There's a review of it from the Lockpicking Lawyer here.
They definitely used salt and use it throughout the winter. Source: I ride all winter.
What I do about salt if anyone cares. Every night I use a hand pump pressurized garden sprayer to rinse it off, like this: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B002YNSAGM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_imm_t1_y2cQFbHNT3P2Q
I bring the bike and the sprayer in side nightly. The bike sits in boot trays to catch drips a towel dry does not get. I do frequent maintance, use wet chain lube and a marine grade tub of grease for bearings. I also use car wax on the frame about once a month.
So you sent me on a amazon rabbit hole.
If a medium coat fits looks like this one is only 13 dollars. I normally fit in Medium so i ordered it.
I have a hyperlapse setting on my phone, which may or may not have image stabilization built in. So this is original footage, with just then music added in the background. You might want to try the Microsoft Hyperlapse app if you don't have hyperlapse built into your phone.
