Learn some basics such as meditation, doing positive and/or defensive Magic such as increasing focus or protecting yourself or someone else for example. Once you've done several different spells and you have honed your abilities and feel confident then I would recommend the book Lucifer and the Hidden Demons by Theodore Rose. It's a great book for people you don't have a whole lot of experience, it deals with path working which I didn't put a lot of faith in until this book which proved to me on several different occasions to be very powerful and efficient. In fact I would recommend getting it even if you weren't going to curse because it's got lots of magic and it doesn't require any sacrificing or anything beyond visualization and pathworking.
Buy a few hex books read through them figure out what hex fits and do it. Follow instructions and don't take short cuts.
Personally I'm a fan and have used the book Lucifer and the Hidden Demons. It has many different spells cursed and also spells to help yourself. It's pathworking with Demons. It's just one of several that I have had good results with.
