>Agreed man. Men use to ride little bikes now it's a bunch of sensitive women that cry when your not wearing a helmet.
Grow up dude. This shit makes you sound like a frustrated manchild. I guarantee there are women who ride harder than you, and the helmet thing is stupid b/c we didn't know about shit like CTE a decade ago. If you think no one is doing gnarly shit anymore, get out there and show us what we're missing. Adapt or get left behind, but don't whine about it.
Used BMX parts is not a very big industry. And some bike stores don't want to deal in them because of complications. Your best bet is still, unfortunately, GumTree https://www.gumtree.com/
The best way to get used deals is still word of mouth. Knowing riders on the local area who know a guy who know a guy selling a frame, etc.
I bought some Odyssey MPEGs to learn with. They aren't fancy or flashy and they're heavy but for $15 a pair with Prime shipping it's kind of hard to beat. The Amazon page makes it look like it's just one peg but they come in a pair.

Edit: fucked up the format. Sort of fixed it.
Edit #2: ok, I think I fixed it.
How big is your yard?
A rule of thumb I used is that your first jump should have at least a 10 foot gap (long and low), so my first jump is about 2 feet tall, with a foot of step up and 10 feet of gap.
Another rule of thumb I used is that the distance from the top of the landing to the top of the next lip sould be between 2 and 3 times the gap, so my second jump is 25 feet from the first landing. The lip is about 3.5 feet tall and the gap is still 10 feet. The lip is also a lot steeper (about 60-75 degrees vs. about 45 for the first).
My third jump is about the same as the second, but another 2 or 3 feet further away.
I have a 90 berm at the beginning and a 180 berm at the end. This is an older pic of my setup (the 3rd jump isn't built yet, and I started with all tabletops) to give you an idea of how much space I have.
My friend has this bike This bike And damn this bike can with stand A LOT of abuse
Hey mate, was looking at gumtree just there and saw this https://www.gumtree.com/p/bicycles/bargain.-we-the-people-justice-edition-professional-bmx-bike-/1339722727 2012 version for £95. What you think? Thought it was a good deal tbh
Lost 120 pounds and looking to start riding as a celebratory gift to myself. I dunno shit though. Does this look alright or should I look for something else? Thanks! Here it is
I use Kali knee pads for bmx/mtb and I am happy with them. I tried two other brands before that didn't do it for me. I linked the product down below so you can check them out.
I use these. They're super comfy and never fall out of my ear. The right side can be used independently so you can keep the left ear free to hear.
You can buy wall bike racks of off Amazon if you don't want to go through the trouble of making it yourself - https://www.amazon.com/Bike-Storage-Rack-Holds-Bikes/dp/B0052SW08A
There's also single bike ones if you just search for 'wall bike rack'
get a foam roller and roll on your back a few times a day. It's been helping my back pain quite a bit. They're pretty cheap on amazon.
I just got this one and I like it a lot, great materials and has inner pockets, though fitting a bt speaker and cable bike lock proves challenging. link
i HAVE but i did not like it , they ended up twisting worse then my rubber grips did.
i even tried a different glue and it worked for a bit and looked good. but in the end i went back to grips and wore some https://www.amazon.com/Mechanix-Wear-MFL-55-010-Fingerless-Tactical/dp/B01EOWA4H8
mechanic fingerless gloves. they work better for almost everything
Thank you, it is so simple but that seems to be exactly as I remember. It was really flimsy and at some point either tore off or maybe it was already split for easy removal without having to remove the whole seat. I found an Amazon listing with a bunch of colors and diameters as well.
I couldn't place what else to call it but that is what it was, corrugated conduit/tubing.
Fuck that shit yo tell them that story and demand they send you some dope popcornopolis or something.
Looks great, but run that cable through the forks. https://www.amazon.com/AheadSet-Threadless-Freestyle-Hollow-8-Inch/dp/B001AYOMK4/ref=sr_1_2?crid=1TCHYFD1Z0PL8&keywords=hollow+stem+cap+bmx+freestyle+brake&qid=1668178385&sprefix=hollow+stem+cap+bmx+freestyle+brake%2Caps%2C113&sr=8-2
flatland is hard. like super hard.
I got into bmx trying to focus on and learn flatland exclusively. A month later and only having dirty fork glides and horrible front yards, I gave up and rode street + park. One of the guys in our riding crew was heavy on flat back in the day and now can't seem to keep the flat out of his street: https://www.instagram.com/riderinblack/
Stick with it. Everyone who has tried to learn flat wishes they could ride it well.
Hey folks, Im looking to get into ridng, im 5'10 160ibs, looking at a bike on fb marketplace. Its got 20in tires but an 18.5in top tube frame length. The as says it was bought for a kid, would something like this fit me? And would this be a decent first bike?
Cheers for the help.
You can use shoe goo. If shoe goo is not available where you live you could use E6000. That's what i use for my skate shoes since its hard to find shoe goo in my country.
I've used an American to mid conversion kit before, that's what they look like. The bottom bracket is only the bearings and spacers, everything else here is extra or the crankset.
I managed to find the page and if you look at the features & details section it does say there is an adapter for USA bb. shell.https://www.amazon.com/Salt-Rookie-Crank-Bottom-Bracke/dp/B011F8WCTW
Hi! I just bought a Mongoose Legion 10 for my son as a gift for his great year at school.
He wanted one badly but as soon as we got it, he complains that it's too small compared to the other bmx's he tried last week. From my research I thought that at 20" wheels they're almost all the same size but it doesn't seem to be the case.
He wants to do freestyle so I've thought this bike would be a good beginner bike at a acceptable price range, with the rotor and pegs already included.
He's 170 cm tall, 90lbs. Is there other options for taller bikes for freestyle near the same price range or he just need to adjust to this type of bike?
That model is worth it if you're a kid, that's not a bike for a 'young adult' or older IMO - that's not to say that walmart cannot help with a mongoose, check if their mode 900 is still available those were solid (as another user posted here)
The one you listed isn't good but something like this is a good value and a solid entry bike!
Should you really want this bike I suggest using an automatic ebay bidder, it will outbid anyone even in the last second provided its within your set budget. I use https://sourceforge.net/projects/bom/
Completely new to bmx scene, I’ve skated, surfed, and snowboarded and wanna try something new. Especially since I might be put in parole soon, I need something to distract me in the time. I’ve been looking around and I kinda wanna stick in the $300 range or less I found two aftermarkets and wanted know y’alls opinions or if y’all had any completes in that range you recommend. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/290584815416864/
>Would you say this is a good deal? The bike looks like it is in very good condition.

I'm currently looking at this
https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/2658354494393455
It is full chromoly and I don't know about the double wall rims but the person is selling it for 400 I asked for 300 and they said the lowest they would go is 450. I'm trying to get 330 because I don't want to spend to much especially considering it is 400 msrp.
I've posted about this before in this sub but a close friend of mine is programming his own BMX game right now. It's still in an early stage of development but IMO it looks a lot better than this one. Check out his instagram if you want to see more, I'm sure he would appreciate any support. https://instagram.com/bmxstreetsofficial/
P.S. He's made the controls very similar to the Skate flick technology. Super intuitive.
You can get a nice 500-600 bike USED in your price range. I got my son a $300 Kink Curb and its great for an 8 year old just learning, but the quality difference is quite substantial. If he takes it to the next level I wouldnt feel comfortable him being on it. Quality bikes start at 500-600 and go up from there.
I use these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07R7DT3JV/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_navT_g_GATXNSN7AG0QZV5G7Y4W
Never ever falls off, decent battery life, good water resistance. Everything you need.
Spokes are not supposed to be super tight, if the wheel is true then leave it.
If you are interested this is the tool used to measure relative tension on wheel builds.
I just moved to a new city and I'd like to get a bike for commuting to uni. It's only a mile away, so I'm thinking about getting a BMX (BMXs seem really fun). I don't have a lot of money and I do not know how to do any tricks.
Here are my choices:
https://www.gumtree.com/p/bicycles/bmx/1413515383
https://www.gumtree.com/p/bicycles/bmx-bike-/1415118541
Hey guys,
Looking at getting my first BMX to give it a shot. I am 6ft 4-4 inchs so this seemed a good fit with the 21" top tube.
Other than that, anything else I should be looking for as a taller rider, anything this bike doesn't have?

Taaaaa
Anyone have opinions on these 2 bikes? I’m a newbie to BMX (extensive road cycling background) and want to start going to the skatepark
Hey guys sorry to bother you, I'm a total noob and on a very tight budget. Just looking to get a cheap beater until I decide if the hobby is for me/how it feels after shoulder surgery last year. I was wondering if anyone could help me ID this bike please so I can read up on it. I don't mind if it's not great as long as it isn't a total piece of shit. Thanks in advance
I got this one for my son at an ATV shop for less than this but this is a good brand.
I found one of these locally; how much is this bike worth in your opinion?, The one I found was brand new, garage kept, unused... kid didn't like the yellow color... it has three piece cranks, 20.3" TT, has a semi-sealed headset, sealed BB, Sealed hubs and cassette front and rear. Would you pay 80 GBP/ $100 USD ?
This guy is selling his 2011 Arcade for £110/$140. Is it worth it? Good bike? How much should I offer?
i cant fakie on a freecoaster its fine! They do take a while ! here, have a good listing near to you ! https://www.gumtree.com/p/bicycles/we-the-people.-turquoise-arcade-edition.-professional-bmx-bike-/1170750352
Anyone have any ideas what it’s worth? New old stock parts are expensive! Just for a set of the front fork stander pegs (which thankfully I have) it’s like $300+. And just a crank spindle bolt is $70! It’s Making me second guess restoring it.... lol.
I’ve found a couple of 1987 GT pro freestyle tours for sale but they were both the team models, I don’t think mine is. I think it’s just the regular ‘87 GT pro freestyle tour but I’m looking into it.
The 2 team models were listed for $2000-3000.
I also saw 3 for sale on EBay. One was a 1997 model for $1500. The other 2 were 1987 team models (one was pink, the other green), both listed for $3999 (each + $100 shipping).
I haven’t been able to find my exact bike for sale. The closest I found was just the frame and handlebars alone (in the same color blue) and that sold for $1200 three years ago. https://offerup.com/item/detail/189954825/
I have to believe it’s definitely worth more than the 1997 GT pro freestyle tour or just an 87 frame alone.
Last one! And its a good one lol. 21" frame with a freecoaster also. This looks like an actual custom but I can't tell for sure. I think this may be your best option overall, even better than the Cult thing in the last post. Offer 300 and see where it gets you. This is a rad bicycle: https://offerup.com/item/detail/634037097/
Getting to BMX bike with my friend and we just want to ride around the city. Was wondering if this was a good bike for the price.
https://offerup.com/item/detail/509433659/
I can always negotiate the price if I have to!
I'm gonna say you probably can't swap them, unless you want to run reversed pedals which I wouldn't recommend.
To swap to lhd you'd need new cranks and a new wheelset, you're better off looking for a rhd wheelset first
It looks like the guy on offer up is selling lhd cranks, maybe you could strike a combo deal https://offerup.com/item/detail/275639382/?ref=UserProfile
I'm 32, 5'9", and weigh about 190. I'm looking to get into BMX again after a long hiatus. My budget is pretty low (sub $100 range). I know you can't get much for that price, but I know it's possible to find good deals. I found this Mirraco Linkin that looks pretty decent. Is it any good? What would you guys recommend?
Can't find the original post, but there was a post on LifeProTips the other day that said to use IFTTT to search craiglist for you and notify you of posts. Might be worth setting up.
Best of luck in getting it back.
Look into track drop grips. They are grips meant for track racing, but I don't see why you can't put them on BMX bikes
ESI Grips XXL 8.25" Chunky, Grips, 203mm, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GSWHSLC/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glc_fabc_G0D6F0Q7H6K5C79VQ8MM?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Get you something like this:
BOSCH BSPE6D 12Piece Steel Spiral Flute Screw Extractor Set https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07G1M1TQG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_2G0REGQEMX51RGC3Z7TG
Along with this:

Then look up the rest on YouTube.
Our daughter is a really tiny 2.5, and it’s been fitting for a while with plenty of room to grow. It’s got the dial in the back and she loves wearing it.
Paraffin wax works well and is generally cheaper than buying skate or I guess bmx specific wax. Can usually find it at the grocery store too.
Don't think there is a way. They're just a soft piece of metal crimped onto the end of your wire to stop it fraying. Should just pull off and then replace with a new one once youe cable is trimmed to the right length.
very cheap on amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/Silver-Alloy-Mountain-Bicycle-Brake/dp/B072NZQYFS/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=Cable+Ends&qid=1618915586&sr=8-5
or you can find some coloured or slightly more varied options for higher prices.
>Thanks!, just one more question.

Get a longer Allen key. Threads for compression bolts are pretty long for this reason.
Something like this:
Have someone hold your bars and grip your frame or seat with your legs for more stability.
Also get some PB blaster and you won’t be fucked.
Okay, I see why you can't toe them in, they don't have the proper adjustment washers. You can get these black odyssey pads for $10 and they will work better and can be toed. Should solve your issue.

like your palms ? get some gloves and or work up the callouses on them , takes like 1 month of every day riding

buy a set of them in the size you need and you wont need to worry about it

best gloves you can use. for working on bikes and riding just make sure you buy the right size
https://www.amazon.com/Mechanix-Wear-MFL-55-010-Fingerless-Tactical/dp/B01EOWA4H8
are best for riding , and working =)
app is called https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.skatespots&hl=en im not sure if thats a thing in the u.s. tho...
man L.A. I'm so jelly... im facing winter here soon... which means a couple of months break.... :(
They sell some on amazon 8 dollars for 5 I think their cheap and their bright https://www.amazon.com/INNOLIFE-Silicone-Waterproof-Headlight-taillight/dp/B00P8CM1UC/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?keywords=innolife+bike+light&qid=1568665705&sr=8- these don’t make your bike look ugly and you can easily hide them on your seat post or on your bars
Kink Whip would be most ideal. But I understand that may not be within your budget. It's ~430usd most places
Kink Gap is a solid option for less, ~380usd most places
If you are going to get a cheap hi-tensile steel bike, don't overpay for the Sunday. Get a Mongoose Legion L60 or you can get the slightly higher quality L80 with 20.75 frame. Either bike will serve you well. They are 200 & 225 on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Mongoose-Legion-Freestyle-20-Inch-Wheels/dp/B07G1CS5QF/
Also, check your local craigslist/OfferUp before you bite the bullet on a brand new bike. If you have a low budget, you will find you are going to get crap either way. But you might as well maximize the value for your dollar.
https://www.amazon.com/SE-Bikes-Chain-Tensioner-GOLD/dp/B078GZ2475/ref=sr_1_10?keywords=chain+tensioner&qid=1554311796&s=gateway&sr=8-10 these will fit 3/8th axles.
Otherwise, these are some of the only 14mm tensioners that you can find. https://www.planetbmx.com/shop/blackops-14mm-double-bolt-alloy-chain-tensioner-black.html
As in not locally owned, or as in not near your home? Amazon has these that work nicely.
Managed to get from Florida to Maine and back with no problems using this:

HOWEVER I would definitely recommend a bigger bag, On the way back I almost got caught with my rear triangle poking out of the top haha
Has anyone tried this golf bag?
It seems to be the one closest to what the Vital BMX guys were using when they wrote this article.
https://www.vitalbmx.com/product/feature/The-Ultimate-BMX-Travel-Bag-is-an-Ogio-Golf-Bag,827
and do this with them, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abkuIBdRuEU
as for the awareness thing, you can put in earplugs, and blast music and still hear better than car drivers or other users, if you're cycling on a main road not using earplugs can cause serious hearing damage, but it might take adjustment if you're used to relying on hearing (which is a bad idea anyway, with electrics and hybrids everywhere now.)
Best I've ever had. No slip or slide. Washes well. Not difficult to take off, but is easier over jeans. I do like the sturrips on your suggestion, but they look like they would be hot quick.
I use Anker Buds,
They're sweatproof, sound nice, wireless, don't get in the way AT ALL
NOTHING will knock them out of your ears, they're great.
They're easy to put on and simply forget about, and music/volume controls are on the right ear.
EDIT: I forgot there's more than one "anker buds"...
Sk8 Hi Vans (great for ankle protection on the cranks). Bell Division Helmet. G-Form shin pads. I have Shadow Conspiracy Invisalite elbow pads, but don't ever use them. They're pretty much the same as the some generic foam knee pads I have, off amazon: https://www.amazon.com/McDavid-Youth-Knee-Elbow-Black/dp/B01BD0DZKC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1501884304&sr=8-2&keywords=hex+knee+pad
You can't really see it under my jeans and gives more confidence for pedal slips, and knee hitting the stem or falling to your knees. A hard plastic would be better but I have yet to find one that fits nicely under jeans (I am not about wearing them on the outside like it's the 90s, even though I long for those days and am from that era).
I man a Pro-Tec, Classic in white X-L, I've only got one complaint, the scratch on the forehead right and left are super painful and uncomfortable, easy fix for me though, I just removed the scratch and let the other scratch hold it. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071GCDWGN/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1
Dude you hucked that shit hard, i give you A for effort and for getting back up like nothing happened! Side note, if you're still in the market for a phone tripod i just bought this one and could not recommend it enough! it is built so nice and heavy duty! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0169SORBO/ref=twister_B0188Q70IC?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Get a tripod adapter for your phone like this one or something so you can put your phone on a tripod and film of you don't have anyone else to film you (taping your phone to a tripod doesn't work well trust me).
From what i've read you can just use a normal pipe cutter that you would use for copper pipes and such. If you don't have one in your house you can get them pretty damn cheap.
I had a similar problem once. I used some of these:
Which worked perfectly well. They basically cut into the bolt and grip it really tight, allowing you to wrench it off with it attached to the rounded bolt.
Quick trick if you're short cash. Get a dry scotch bright pad (the green ones you clean dishes with). Put the pad inbetween the rim braking surface and your brake pad. Push the brake pad in OR squeeze the brake and spin the rear wheel. It cleans up your rims and makes for a quick and easy fix.
Long term fix. Buy some new brake pads. They're cheap.
Checking your chain alignment is really really easy.
Get a ruler. Metric is preferable, but if all you have is inches, we can work with that. However, if it's an inch ruler, this is going to be a lot harder. I have one of these. I use it for a lot of stuff, and you can get them almost anywhere, so I would recommend you get one.
Measure from the center of your seat tube to the inside edge of your sprocket. The more precise you measure, the better your chainline will end up, but at a minimum, you need to measure to the nearest 1mm (or 1/32 inch). Write that number down. We'll call this dimension S.
Now measure from the inside of your dropout to the inside of the driver teeth, again to the nearest 1mm (1/32 inch). White that number down. We'll call this dimension D.
Finally, add S and D together. If you used inches, you need to convert fractional inches to decimal inches, then convert the inches to mm. Don't be scared, Google will do it for you.
For a perfect chainline, S+D=55. If it's less, add spacers between the sprocket and the frame to make up the difference.
For example, suppose you measured your sprocket at 42mm, and your driver at 12mm. That's 54mm, so add a 1mm spacer.
If S+D is greater than 55, remove spacers. You might get in trouble with stuff hitting your chainstays though.
By the way, 55mm is 1/2 the width of the hub (BMX hub spacing is 110mm). We are just using the inside of the dropout as a reference plane to measure the distance from the driver to the centerline of the bike. If you have a driveside hubguard, you need to subtract that thickness from the D measurement.
I hope that helps.
I bought these shin guards on Amazon. They have side protection for tail whips as well as shin protection. They were pretty inexpensive.
Super late to this but I used these for a year until I got my Colony fl pegs and thyre pretty good. I never did any grinds with them though since im into Flatland mostly.
Ever heard of Tegaderm? It's like a future bandage! Might be worth the investment if you're eatin it alot.
Ride hard, stay safe.
It's best to use a freewheel remover:
http://www.amazon.com/Park-Tool-FR-8-Freewheel-Remover/dp/B000C15L10
I won't say I've never done this, but it's not exactly recommended, the Screwdriver Method:
^That's ^why ^I'm ^here, ^I ^don't ^judge ^you. ^PM ^/u/xl0 ^if ^I'm ^causing ^any ^trouble. ^WUT?
Its manual focus, but set it at 1 meter and f5.6 or so and you'll have plenty of DOF. I use the shit out of mine for non-bike stuff too.
There is an app that breaks it down to that level... It's more difficult to setup (designed for multi-gear road/mountain bikes) but it takes everything into account... you can even add custom tire sizes etc...
Currently on one bike I'm running 40/16 (easy cruising, but still very fast) with 175mm cranks and 20x2.1 tires and another bike with 25/9 with 170mm cranks and 20x2.3 tires. I'll have to plug that in to compare lol
