I can't even get past the VPN portion. I've port forwarded all the recommended ports that I could find (80, 443, 500, 4500, 52000~52999) and nothing seems to work. I've whitelisted the application in my windows firewall, tried turning it off and running it, all to no avail. I have my PC as a static IP since I port forward other games/apps too.
It feels like it's some issue on my end (Error 2 in Softether) because as soon as I try to connect any (not just Japan) VPN through the VPN Gate plugin it it instantly spits out the Error 2 cannot connect. The UDP method takes longer, but after about 30-90sec it gives the same error without fail. I'm not sure if I'm the only one with this issue, but I haven't been able to find anybody else having the same problem with DDO.
If anybody has some thoughts on the matter I'd greatly appreciate it!
First, go to the chapel where you did the first tutorial mission (if you didn't do that one either, it's a chapel up some vines just outside the white dragon temple, a bit to the northeast).
Once you get there, it depends on your job. Each job has its own tutorial quest.
If you have a smartphone, I strongly recommend using the google translate app: Android | iOS
That app lets you take a picture and translate the text from it. Helped me a lot when I used to play this game (and Phantasy Star Online 2) on my ps4.
WOOHOO update; got a vpn to run (MS-SSTP) and finally was also able to set the connections up the way i needed it to work : dial up connection to my ISP -> VPN dial -> hosted wlan network with laptop & setting the vpn connection to shared with the hosted network.
now it's patching , woooohooo!!! the speed is another thing but that has to be expected , huh. for those not wanting to use additional software for a vpn use MS-SSTP vpns . found mine through google on http://www.vpngate.net/en/ (make sure to use the ones that have the information in the MS-SSTP column or you'll need software.)

And yes you need a VPN to download the installer and login to the game/launcher. After that, you can disable the VPN and patch/play without VPN
You also can't patch it now, since you need Early Access to download and play it right now. You have to wait until the 31st.
If you're playing on PC, you can set up a workaround for the VPN requirement so that you can turn off the VPN once you get to the character selection screen or when you get into the game so that the game doesn't boot you for your IP address (which just sends you back to the title screen if you made it that far).
The VPN I personally have been using is SoftEther's VPN Gate which not only is free, but is very functional and straightforward for me as you can quickly select a Japanese proxy and expect it to work. If it didn't, you can easily switch to other proxies in mere clicks.
I'm downloading the newest version to check it out, but I wanted to just go thru a couple things that might help you.
Did you double check to make sure you have the SoftEther VPN Client and not anything else?
When you open the program, is there 2 options? One should read Add VPN Connection. You don't want this one. You want the one that says VPN Gate Public VPN Relay Servers.
When installing, did you click on VPN Client Manager or VPN Client, in the installer itself?
I think I already have the newest version, but I'm double checking , its the same thing as it was before for me. If none of these questions help, try redownloading here, and pick the options SoftEther VPN Client, your OS, your cpu.
If this still doesn't work, then I'm outta ideas, sorry
I got it to work but I was doing it this way: Vpn->launcher->login->character select->Mask->loading in->disable vpn
Edit: It was very likely that it was the VPN I was using that caused the Issue. No Problems with SoftEther VPN Client. I was using ExpressVPN before.
Well why not do it this way:
What I also noticed: If you have a tuneled vpn it works the same. Currently using the free trial (3 days) of "Hide ALL IP" and then I can disconnect in-game without issues.
Use this link: https://mega.nz/#!ZEJC0AqQ!V990Cmm7cMvE1B6ahkHekIyWCDSJ_uPHq0TU73PbnSg
I forgot that even if you found your way through the website, it would say access denied, unless you used a Japanese VPN. So I found an alternate download for it.
1- RAR version added to Mega: https://mega.nz/#!CVdzmRxD!M22Uq7Vj2hthzsMkFZ05-j-gy3PHqxf0jyKwDM59BPY
2- Torrent created but I need help to find some site that accept torrent files over 1mb size (mine is 1.4mb). For now I added it to Mega.
3- If you know a good site (better than Mega), tell me and I can try to upload the game to there.
I got mine during the beta but I forgot the version number. I can't check now since it got updated out of beta. Here is the file I got during beta: https://mega.nz/#!hEsl1YzD!BoJbxk_OhKNfLatr7Wg-sNVI_9ecPxzyoEUuveFE-HM
Is Yandex a VPN service? I can't help you with that directly, as I use VPN Gate/SoftEther. I've had a couple hiccups with it occasionally, but it's been pretty reliable overall.
gonna post this stand-alone so if someone needs the info they don't have to search through piles of comments ...

edit: formatting. oh god.
from the alternative start guide linked in the "lets compile info" thread at the top of this subreddit, it walks you through making a capcom online games (cog) account and getting everything going.
the very first link is to the capcom online games site and from there, use google translate to figure out what to do. the translations are completely good enough to figure out how to make a cog account.
at the bottom of the alternative start guide page is a link to vpn gate. i had never used vpn before but that page walks you through the vpn setup process and took all of 5 minutes to get up and running and everything worked great.
Edit: If you can't pass the text box, reinstall the VPN; it had an update today. http://www.vpngate.net/en/download.aspx
My problem is that the warning text box actually shows up. I can't get through to the login even though I have VPN. Using SoftEther (edit: with VPNGate plugin).
http://www.vpngate.net/en/download.aspx
Since you only need it to login, it doesn't really matter how many people use it at the time. You could also use WTFast to try to smooth your ping and get around the IP barrier.
I have that there because if I don't have my VPN on and I click that link it's a dead link but with my VPN on it downloads the file. I think most people here (that don't have a paid VPN) use SoftEther VPN I know I do and it seems to work well.
On PC I use softether for VPN: https://www.softether.org/ and you get a list of choices in the client
On PS4 I use a proxy: http://julien-schu.tumblr.com/post/126090602841/ddon-cbt2-jp-proxy-servers (sometimes hard to find a decent one)
SoftEther is a terrible, terrible VPN. There's some decent ones that offer free service with typically a 500MB limit per month to advertise, I'd recommend finding one of those. I think TunnelBear is one of the best right now in that category. Only problem of course is updating the game client with the VPN will eat your limit, but I think I remember SoftEther being so slow that it was impractical to update on the VPN anyway
I used VyprVPN when I played and it worked flawlessly with 0 frustration but they no longer have a free capped plan. TunnelBear felt pretty identical.
Thanks Everyone that commeted .
Thanks alot SyraHex You were right. I needed to change my Internet to UDP. I have a VPN Called PureVPN Which is a Paid Vpn.... I've had the softEther one before but had alot of DC. But the thing is that SoftEther offers Both TCP and UDP. So it was a easy fix
Change internet to UDP or cick on UDP on SoftEther :)
well i installed VPN without the plugin first, and when i open the program "VPN Gate Public VPN Relay Servers" won't appear on the program main page, then after i installed the plugin "VPN Gate Public VPN Relay Servers" appeared. basically "VPN Gate Public VPN Relay Servers" you choose the region you want to connect and your IP will be modified (sorry for my bad eng)
I'm disabling it at the character select screen, also tried in town but both have it send me back to main menu because it seems lost connection to server for a moment
And it does have the mask command on the thing before the VPN is activateed, my bat is as such
@echo off Title Dragon's Dogma Online VPN Workaround for /f "tokens=3" %%* in (' print ^|findstr "<0.0.0.0>"') Do Set "DefaultGateway=%%*" echo This is a workaround for having to use VPN while playing DDO. echo Make sure that your VPN isn't running and then press enter. pause >nul route add 106.185.74.0 MASK 255.255.255.0 %DefaultGateway% D: cd "D:<a rel="nofollow" href="https://www.goldenfrog.com/">VyprVPN" start echo You can now connect to your VPN. echo Remember to disconnect from your VPN after getting to character selection. echo Press enter once the VPN is connected. pause >nul D: cd "D:\Dragon's Dogma Online" start echo Press enter to remove the workaround after closing the game. pause >nul route delete 106.185.74.0 echo Workaround removed.
I had a feeling that was the case. :/ I would really prefer to stick with Private Internet Access, if possible, though. Any chance anyone else here uses it and knows a winning combination of settings that fix it?
Hello, quick question if you don't mind me asking it here.
I downloaded the exact same client and extracted it. I am using Private Internet Access and I am able to see the main menu, then it redirects me to the launcher where I need to login using the green button I see people posting pics of. I don't see that at all, and I keep getting this error.
Do you know what this error pertains to or how I can fix it?
I had the same problem today even though everything worked fine this weekend. For me, the problem was linked to the DNS settings with my VPN client which prevented my computer to get a name resolution to the capcom site/servers.
Try to connect to while your vpn client is on and see if you get any content. If you don't get anything try to disable DNS from you VPN client so that your computer uses your ISP DNS.
With ExpressVPN client it's in the advanced settings, don't know about other solutions.
Goood luck!
I've tried VyprVPN and hotspot shield elite which have their own japan vpn servers, I get the same error with the "I" in blue circle... please help me, I really like Dark arisen and I want to try it as an mmo
Softether has been complete trash from my experience, I'm using vyprvpn at the moment which is free up to 500MB/month and works flawlessly. Supposedly OpenVPN is the same deal but when you pay for either the difference is OpenVPN is a one time payment for bandwidth upgrade, whereas VyprVPN is a recurring payment for unlimited bandwidth.
Instead of waiting for someone to fix it, you can use the google translate app on your phone to translate the text on pictures you take of the screen.
Been a while since I played hunter, so the only one I remember is for lv6 Crimson Arrow, which you need Grimwargs.
