I have this ($77), but it can only connect to the TV with HDMI cable.
You can get an HDMI to AV converter like this one for $10-20.
Good luck!!!!
I have a couple of these: DVD Players for TV, CD Players for Home, HDMI and RCA Cable Included, Up-Convert to HD 1080p, Multi Region, Breakpoint Memory, Built-in PAL/NTSC, USB 2.0 - they're nice because they're not region locked and will play European DVD's.
For DVD videos:
Select HQ 480p30 for Region 1 NTSC DVDs (or HQ 576p25 for Region 2 PAL DVDs)
Set conversion speed to Slow or Slower
The Constant Quality RF value ca be anywhere between 18 and 20. Higher value means smaller file size but also slightly lower quality.
If you have a fast graphics card, you can try out the GPU-accelerated codecs (NVenc or Intel QSV in the Video tab to see if the result is good enough. If it is, stick with that. It will convert the video about 50 times faster than the default software-based conversion.
Output container doesn't really matter, unless you're stuck with Apple iOS devices (because Appple seems to hate MKV with a passion). But if your video has subtitles, or if you would like to embed an external SRT file (from subscene.com or wherever), so they can be turned on and off, choose Matroska (MKV). MP4/M4V is useless for embedded subtitles - and remember to add them on the Subtitles tab.
It is the best for editing videos but it cannot create dvd menus https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cyberlink.powerdirector.DRA140225_01&hl=en_US&gl=US&referrer=utm_source%3Dgoogle%26utm_medium%3Dorganic%26utm_term%3Dpowerdirector&pcampaignid=APPU_1_Rt0VYd-EE4K6tAaQsaewCw
