God bless you for asking. 1) read books about management and employee engagement. here's an example: https://www.amazon.com/Its-Your-Ship-Management-Anniversary/dp/145552302X.
2) Constant assessments are the key to employee morale. For example, the "Start, stop, stay" exercise. People won't tell you what they think unless you ask them.
3) never hold a meeting to make an announcements. Meetings are for exchange of information, emails are for dissemination of information.
If you’re looking for a book, I can recommend First 90 Days in Government. Not required reading per se but it may have some useful tools. If you’re in the DC area I’m happy to give it to you for free.

There is a device that you can install in a PC drive bay where the internal connector and electronics "are" a floppy drive, but the outside has a USB socket. You load a floppy-sized image file onto a thumb drive, and the computer cannot tell that it is not dealing with a physical floppy drive. Many MRI machines, CNC machine tools, etc., only know how to deal with floppy drives, so these are a life saver.

It also doesn’t help when the programs and long time technical staff who care about the mission are being shoved out. IE: Hard Lessons in a Hard Land
There are micromanagers constantly watching for people who go yellow in Teams.
And the Lord said “let there be innovation, and there was innovation…and it was good”. Keep your cell phone logged into email and Teams so you can respond quickly, and manage yourself as always.

It doesn’t help with the lack of microwave, but someone else on here recommended this freezable lunch bag not too long ago.
I got one and really like it - freeze the bag overnight, food stays cold inside all day.
So may be good for sandwiches/salads and other things you want to keep cool but also don’t have to warm up?

No, no weird hardware. It's just a mouse with extra features. I paid $20 for mine but it's currently on sale for $17.

I would assume you were using the agency VPN which would be authorized. I doubt anyone is authorized to use a product like NordVPN because they could be listening to all your traffic... a huge security risk.
All your traffic is routed through the VPN provider... they may claim to not do anything nefarious but the government won't care because it is too risky. They'd want something they have 100% control over to prevent easedropping.
My girlfriend gave me this password keeper as a gift and I keep all of them here. I find it very practical and has an interesting cover.
I highly encourage the Hamster Revolution for getting a handle on email. I don't use it down to the detail but I use the basic principles and have convinced my office to use the tagging in the subject line too. It helps a lot!
My first federal resume I used this book: Federal Resume Guidebook For the 15 position I sent write to the source and used the author’s resume writing service. It is a collaborative approach and really helps you to focus on achievements. From what I can remember the price varies depending on what level you are applying for and how much help you need. It will cost more if you have them write a resume from scratch than it will if you have them review and improve an existing resume.
If you are traveling personally (not on orders) I find the gov't rate is usually not really a great rate. You can usually find something on the hotel website or something like hotels.com. I think to find value is very location specific. When visiting my home town I can find something $35-45 cheaper on hotels.com or a hotel website rather than the gov't rate across hotel brands. I would just do your searches for the places you want to travel and see what is better.

I have adhd and just can’t remember everything. Use that for like my benefits and stuff. For the ones that change all the time I come up with one and the just go down the keyboard one key over when it has to be changed. Then cycle back to the beginning. Keeps from running into the whole “You used this password 4 cycles ago and can’t use it now.” By the time I work down the keyboard and come back it doesn’t care about the repeat.
This book helped me when I was looking years ago. Here’s a link to the latest edition. I used the older one, but I found it to be very useful at the time.
Not sure about a VPN, but I can verify that using a Smart DNS Proxy (which only routes the location checks for videos, and not all data) does not seem to cause any issues with telework and has worked with the mlb package that T-mobile gives for free.

I wish you a very successful and prosperous career. Going forward recognize the federal service protects managers no matter what. During your civil service career, it is highly likely that you will face or be a witness to discrimination, fraud, waste, or abuse. If you are a person of integrity, it will be hard to overlook.
