Yea, OP. For any smooth wooden surfaces to avoid urine soaking in its best to actually seal the wood with the likes of mod podge (because it’s non toxic) or PlastiKote clear sealer?

This will definitely help with keeping wooden products from not absorbing the smell so much and making them easier to clean.
For now to clean the items and get smell out you can use a 1:4 ratio of just vinegar to water. Give it a good scrub down with that solution and allow it to air dry, or you could use a hair blow dryer on lowto dry it a bit faster.
The varnish you use unless specifically water resistant won’t really work to keep it protected from pee.

Depending on your country and what you have already, this is a wonderful option to go inside of a playpen! My Bean absolutely loves it.
It's also fairly low cost!
This sand here was recommended to me by WhispyNarwhal here on this subreddit and aside from Children’s play sand which is the absolute cheapest (but may require some additional steps before use such as baking in the oven and letting cool for any potential “friends”). I have been loving the CaribSea sand and have used it with one of my hams for 5 weeks now and my newest ham for 5 days with 0 issues.

Yeah it's this cage, it only has 350 sq inches but it's able to connect to others and comes with a second floor (which I have taken out right now to change the cage around). The wheel didn't fit, but I bought 2 of them and used industrial scissors to cut around the rim and it fits. A 10 1/2 inch wheel fits, even with the 2nd floor.
I use this sand it’s not super fine but my hamsters like it.
Sadly it only goes as high as 9 inch so I know that eventually my hams will outgrow that, but if you have a ham who did not fill out to maximum chonk then it would be okay. You’re on to something with the sand being in the rock dip thing. Brought it up to my wife just now, and she was like, “see I told you!” 🤣 I think I’ll do that later tonight or later this week.
For the cameras, I’m actually eye balling those Blink Security cameras that amazon has because they are just so easy to use and they come with free cloud storage. I like the motion sensor feature and also that they run on lithium ion batteries, so no wires.
I tried the whole twitch streaming with a spare iPhone I had, but it would cut off after about 18 hours or so. 🤷♂️

I think on that one the wire spacing may be a bit too large. I would suggest The Prevue, or going to Petco to get a 40 gallon breeder aquarium or larger. They're on sale right now. Edit: that cage I linked on Amazon is also on sale right now. It's usually $120-$130 when I check right now it's only $90

If it’s any help I have this wheel for my Syrian, it’s 12 inch and she absolutely loves it! It’s pretty silent until she sticks her food in it and runs haha! I hope this helps?

Well, they do have play pens you can buy on amazon for around $12-16 that he could use. You can also try and deep clean a room and let him run loose. Just make sure there isn’t anything he can eat of hurt himself on and that the room is really clean. playpen hope this helps
