If you're using a PC, you might also check out Cakewalk by BandLab. It's a free DAW that used to cost. (I spent hundreds on it over the years until BandLab bought the assets and made it free.) Cakewalk comes with plenty of effects, instruments, and even Session Drummer for creating drum tracks. The software has a bit of a learning curve, but it's worth the effort. Just wanted to give you another affordable option.
Yeah I'm just starting to realise that by looking at videos lol. Oh man my whole life is a learning curve. Right, so should a male to female xlr like this do the trick?
Something like this should work: https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-3-5mm-Inch-Breakout/dp/B07PFLH184/ref=sr_1_4?crid=1WCW2PC2ZIMJT&keywords=3.5mm+to+two+XLR&qid=1668805580&s=electronics&sprefix=3.5mm+to+two+xlr%2Celectronics%2C125&sr=1-4
I used Cable Matters cables for other stuff, and they were fine.
Okay great I figured as much, just got confused as some store employees told me what I had was enough. You think that's the last missing piece?
How about these:
option 1

I need to do more research on the specific uses/differences of mixer and interface. Are these used in unison?
Do I record directly into Ableton... any idea what the purest way to get audio is?
I'm in California, and I'd like to stay around 150 for an interface, but have more for other necessities.
Thank you for the quick response!
I use the Sabrent Docking Station. You can also connect ether net and your screens and more. It has several USB ports but I don't know it it will fix your whole problem
You can get single pannels for fairly cheap. Varying length, too.
Would recommend looking into Scarlett Studio Solo sets. The one I linked is what I picked up years ago, so likely there are newer versions, and mine came with bundled software. So stand alone hardware should be cheaper.
What interface are you using? What software are you using? What's your current latency? What OS are you on?
In the past (long ago) I had trouble with a cheap audio interface and I fixed it using the Asio4All drivers: http://www.asio4all.org/
My band and I use next cloud. Basically have our own sever set up in one persons house. Everyone can have own login and stuff. Works like a charm. Apps for mobile. Maybe more than what you want, but we switched to this over Dropbox because we didn’t want to pay for more storage on Dropbox. I didn’t set this up, but it’s another option.
Imho you should go with an interface because you will able to upgrade later, but I'm not sure about the microphone. If your room is not threared you can have a lot of room in your recordings with a condenser mic. A dynamic would be my choice because usually they are less sensible and unwanted noises (pc fan, traffic outside etc...) are harder to record. I bought this as a joke but it is not total crap and is easier to record clean vocals. Remember that this kind of cheap mics needs more processing but for a beginner are my go to choice. Good luck!
You need an audio interface to plug the microphone into then plug the interface into you computer.
Im a big fan of focusrite scarlett, they sound good and are easy to use. If you want high quality recordings you will need one.

You can probably even get them cheaper than this.
I have the MOTU M2 which is USB-C , combo XLR and 1/4 jacks as well as a MIDI On/Out. Bonus points for the DAC which means I use it as an audio output (on the laptop on my case)

Actually a friend of mine recommended this one Steinberg UR22C 2x2 USB 3.0 Audio Interface with Cubase AI and Cubasis LE https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07YFH671V/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_P0K06G9YBASRQ9PK54D5?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Thanks both! Can you recommend a DAW that supports midi that is ideally free? And presumably you're talking about a cord like this one?
I've been happy with these for the past few months:

Plus Waves Abbey Road Studio 3 has provided more than enough for my current needs.
Good luck on your journey!
Could I just run this cable from the 6.35mm line outs on the piano to the single 3.5mm jack on my laptop? https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Splitter-Compatible-Computer-Multimedia/dp/B00ZKM3S4S/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=6.35+mono+to+3.5mm+stereo&qid=1603501001&sr=8-1
Good idea! I found this mount on Amazon. If I can find a short enough microphone pole with fitting threads, it will be perfect.
this is the exact reason I upgraded my interface to a 8 input from a 4 input. now my synth, guitar, bass, and mics are permanently set up along with a a template in my DAW with all the routing set so I can create a new session and just go for it.

tldr: consider upgrading your interface for more inputs.
the behringer u-phoria works fine on linux with no drivers
You probably don't need a shock mount for an SM58, it has internal shock/vibration reduction system so the shock mount isn't going to do anything noticeable in most situations. A basic arm would be fine unless your desk gets bashed/vibrates a lot during recording (in which case a regular boom stand on the ground would be better), the one you linked doesn't look like it has a mount that would hold an SM58, but this related one appears to be the kind of thing you're after.
Literally just researched the same thing over the weekend. Ended up getting a Samsung 2TB SSD. (Our HDD of 6 years is corrupted and about to die.) Several music production websites listed the Samsung as a solid choice for quick read and write and portability. It’s just amazing how far this tech has come in a few years. Our old one was over $600 (for 1TB) and bigger than a large shoebox and this new one was $330 and the size of a credit card. Unreal.

I have this and I always recommend them for the price!
Sorry but only have the Spanish amazon link.

First off, that's a solid song, very cool. Not sure if you pulled the trigger and set yourself up already, but I'm a drummer/home recording casual who wanted to start messing with laying down some guitar ideas of my own (punk rock). I went with a Behringer UM2 which has 2 inputs - an XLR and a 1/4" instrument jack. I got it for about $45 and couldn't have been happier based on the price.
I learned the basics of tracking and mixing in Reaper (free DAW) thanks to a friend who got me up and running, but I recently switched over to Logic Pro. If you know your way around Garageband (especially the drummers), you may wanna consider dropping ~$100 on Logic. It's Apple's DAW and is pretty much Garageband on steroids. The drummers work the same, you get more amp sims, full multi-tracking... it's pretty much got everything and anything you wish GB had, and it will be familiar to you right out of the box. Importing older GB projects would prob be seamless as well. It's been so much fun, I hardly care that it's ruining my marriage haha (/s)
Focusrite Scarlett 4i4 3rd generation
This is from the new Scarlett series. Scarlett series have much better Amps than the other audio interfaces.
