If you need help getting started we're ready to earn your business
Year 2 Game Dev here, My knowledge on Engine developing is minimal so I cannot comment on that, although the create of one such game I can indeed help with.
You'll want to start by brainstorming your game idea and working with different mechanics you find fun. Try to focus your game on the one mechanic, e.g, every new idea you create should react with this mechanic in some form. This can include theme, items and audio. Once you have worked out a solid idea for a new game start on a Game Design Document. This is a fully detailed explanation of what your game is, what it will have in it and how it will look. It helps to think nitty-gritty, for example I might want to create a game where the character jumps. I will then need to answer questions such as, how high can the player jump? Is it the player jumping or an enemy? Are the heights the same all the time? Can they keep jumping or will they have to touch the ground before jumping again? ect ect.
The next step would be to find a Game Engine to use(different in your case) and start assigning roles to people based on timeframes and deadlines. https://trello.com/ can be extremely useful I find.
Once all the assets have been assigned to people, let them crack away at each individual thing until its all brought together. Talk and discuss throughout the team consistently through the use of "dailies" to gain insight on whats wrong and right in the project.
That should be most of it. Let me know if you have any further question that I could help you out on.
LMMS for sure. https://lmms.io/ Open source, free, cross-platform. Comes with its own library of instruments, like you're looking for, but I've had good results using loops from looperman.com and other samples with it.
Just released my first game, looking for feedback. Space-based mining game with ship upgrades and crafting. Tried to come up with a unique concept instead of just cloning something. Took this from start to finish in 7 days (didn't sleep much). https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ProbeGames.AstroMiner
Many people make games by themselves (I've made 3).
You have a number of choices:
1) Follow as many Unity tutorials as you can find. You can start with my own Pong tutorial here: https://www.grogansoft.com/2015/01/06/beginners-guide-create-a-pong-clone-in-unity-part-1/ .
2) Try making a game with an engine that doesn't need coding, e.g. Scratch (https://scratch.mit.edu/)
3) You can buy game 'kits' from the Unity Asset Store, where you basically add your own art and levels, though usually you would need to know a fair amount of coding to work with them. Proceed with caution.
4) Start very, very small and work up. Build a simple 'Hello World' in Unity. Then add a simple square graphic. Then implement moving the square with the keyboard. Then add a trigger area to turn the Hello World text on or off depending on if the player is in the trigger area, and so on.
If you want to learn to code, check out Brackey's on Youtube. They have some great intro videos. Unity has their own learning resources that can help a lot too. Subscribe to the various subreddits and ask questions when you get stuck. /r/Unity2D and /r/Unity3D are great for Unity stuff (just make sure you post code/screenshots with your questions or people can't help much).
Keep in mind you don't need to fully understand everything at first. If you follow a tutorial and get something working at the end of it, it doesn't matter if a lot of it went over your head. Just move onto another tutorial. You will start to understand things, and of course the more you practice the better you'll get.
If you search Google or Youtube for 'Unity tutorial <game type>' you will probably find something. The best way to learn is to recreate simple games. They can usually be done in a few hours, and you can add your own tweaks and graphics to turn them into something unique.
I have developed "Solo RPG Oracle - Basic", an app that works as an oracle, and helps those who want to play role-playing games alone or in a group without a Dungeon Master, to create stories and receive answers to their questions.
The app can also be used to receive inspiration for the creation of missions and campaign for your games!
This app is a tool that you can use in different ways:
The app is in its Alpha version (not final yet), and I would really appreciate if you could give me some feedback.
You can download the app here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.biimgames.solorpgoraclebasic
The app in this "Basic" version is free; there is just one advertisement at the beginning to watch to be able to use it.
Premium versions with additional features will be available soon.
Let me know what do you think about it. Thanks!

It was a ton of work, and isn't making as much as I'd like it to yet, but it was fun to make! After a couple other small projects, I have plans laid out to add a lot more to it. My wife and I still play it, and friends all say it has potential to be popular, but I have to get the right people to see it and that's the hard part.
You can check out the game on the Play Store! Available US and Canada only.
For those interested in trying out the latest build (unreleased) and helping me better this game that we've worked hard on, I'd really appreciate if you sign up to be a playtester. I'll send you your copy of the latest build to start playing immediately!
I am working on my first "proper" game (meaning , the first game I am going to release public and also the first game to develop on a proper game engine , Unity 5) . It is a clicker basic clicker game trying to be funny . It isn't anything fancy or original but hey! it's my first game and it is mine :P . I just put it up on Google playstore for alpha testing , anyone wanna check it out? I am rolling out just now a new version with some bug fixing ! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joyfoundry.gadgetclicker
