only sharing because I have two of these and this is a great price for a great remote
Buy one of these ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01NBRBWS6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_FCDFZEMBVWWAX0D6N4W3) and use button remapper app, and the windows software and you can get basically any functionality you need from an existing remote.
I'm using an Elite, a Companion, and a Smart Remote.
A lot of people confuse the Smart Remote with the Companion because they look similar.
I have the Awakelion Premium 5 in 1 Out 4K HDMI Switch with IR Remote and I love it. It has five inputs with discrete IR codes. It has full 4k 4:4:4 60 Hz support. It has auto-input-switch, but that is very easily disabled. Best of all, it's already in the Harmony database so I didn't have to do any IR learning.
Thanks very much for the link, I've looked at my UK equivalent link and it tells me the skill is no longer available. No way for me to add it to Alexa. Frustrating
I get this almost weekly, sometimes daily now. The only thing that corrects it is a power disconnect for 10 second and reconnect. Frustrating and considering to shop for alternatives. Bought mine back in August 2017 so not sure which Hub I have, but this is the one I bought. I bought it for $90 US; it's selling for double that now.
I've only been able to find one so far and it's also a cheap Chinese one $8 on Amazon, I'll probably get it but it it only has toggle on/off instead of dedicated on off so that sucks. It's programmable though so that's pretty cool, can use existing remotes on it and pair it to them so it should be easy to link to the Harmony 650.
There probably used to me more of them back in the day but everything is turning into either radio controlled or wifi, I was probably lucky just to find this one. If anyone else is interested in this receptacle an electrical engineer disassembled it and made a pretty awesome review video of it.
Normally you can enable CEC, but disable power/channel switching.
I have an LG OLED, connected to an Onkyo receiver. Works fine (most of the time).
Only device I had to do something special for was my Chromecast because you can't turn off CEC. So I order a HDMI CEC-killer (https://www.amazon.com/Lindy-HDMI-Adapter-Female-41232/dp/B00DL48KVI) to install between it and the Onkyo.
I used a simple mono headphone plug from the harmony hub to an IR repeater box. That boosts the signal from the harmony hub and repeats it to upto 12 devices. It’s overkill, since I think I only have 4 devices currently, but I guess that gives me room to expand.
The IR repeater I have isn’t anything special, but it’s this one:
BAFX Products IR Repeater -... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009ZGK6QS?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Bought an extra one a couple years ago on Amazon, it was official. The prices are ridiculous but here's the listing.
I have been using IFTTT with Harmony
Turn off TV by voice https://ifttt.com/applets/479461p
I was hoping the new harmony integration would by pass the need for this, but my Google Home still only seems to work with the old Ask Harmony commands.
Ok. My plan is to buy this https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=7121

This combo works as normal

An unconnected 'smart' strip is what I use to have all dumb subordinate devices get powered on whenever the Harmony calls for an activity that uses the AVR. For example: https://www.amazon.com/ECG-7MVR-Energy-Protector-Autoswitching-Technology/dp/B0058DHO1W
So, I have my AVR plugged into the smart-strip and the power amplifier, TV, DVD player, and subwoofer plugged into controlled outlets.
This approach isn't great for stuff that WANTS to be always plugged in on standby like a Chromecast or Android TV. For those, I use Home Assistant with the opposite approach: In Home Assistant, I have an automation set up that tells Harmony to select the Chromecast Activity when my Chromecast starts playing, thus powering on everything else. It is a little laggy since the Chromecast will usually start playing before the TV and AVR are fully awake, which is fine for music, but with video usually I cast something then immediately hit "pause". It is still easier than having to swap between the Harmony Remote (or the app) and whatever is casting.
Go to ifttt.com and create an applet for each activity. My google home (in spanish) does not talk to the harmony hub, and with the ifttt applets they work together beautifully. I control a fan, air conditioning, TV, stereo receiver, etc...

I currently have a harmony 700. I've used that for switching between all kinds of things (even a window air conditioner) and had full control over my Xbox 360 but now I have a PS5 and am getting a series X this weekend. I'm not certain my harmony 700 will work with the new Xbox or not and was thinking of options. I've read several times that I can use the harmony 700 and my PS5 with this: https://www.amazon.com/-/es/Gaming-Receiver-Logitech-Harmony-Control-Devices/dp/B01K3VMBM0
but I cannot find one for sale anywhere.
Just had to do this because my 2400 pro went belly up. I got these items and it worked

I bought this one:

Do not use the screwdriver that came with this kit. Use a good quality one such as the ifixit kit.
I'm not sure about battery life since I haven't tested it yet. I always put the remote back on the dock after every use so I'm not too worried about battery life. I will say that this aftermarket battery was slightly bigger than the OEM battery which was concerning because I was wondering how it would fit. It turned out to fit fine...maybe a bit more snug in the compartment.
If you have an existing ethernet cable (cat5) hanging by the Epson projector. You can connect this jumper adapter to each side of the ethernet to convert to 3.5mm plug. you will still need your 2.5mm ordered adapter in the hub side.
I can’t speak to that specific blaster, but you would need a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter for it to work. Like this: Monoprice 107121 2.5mm Mono Plug to 3.5mm Mono Jack Adaptor, Gold Plated https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005KP2AJY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_8A6P3GFTNQ03M0Q9ZQDY?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Yes, when you choose hub under the settings for a piece of equipment it will fire that blast out of the hub.
Just more convenient and stronger than pointing the remote only.
Here is an adapter plug that allows you to use a generic ir blaster with a harmony hub.
https://www.amazon.com/Ancable-Logitech-Extenders-Repeaters-Receivers/dp/B07FDZC81H?th=1
Shoot the one I linked to was 3.5mm. The one linked below should work, just seems unnecessarily expensive
Just noticed the product you linked to was a receiver extender. You want a blaster/emitter rather than a receiver.
Hi - I have to read this in detail but I am thinking of the following. How does it sound?
I bought the following from Amazon. Hopefully this is good. https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07FKJP4Z1/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_N8JTFD77RD7CGM2K8M5K
I will connect this to my Harmony hub and let it reside behind my Accoustically transparent screen. I am assuming the IR should work through spandex and this would qualify as a direct line of sight
I will then change the hub assignment for projector on Harmony to All instead of remote only
I assume then that the current watch tv routine I have will power on the projector, receiver
I will then add the scene to my yonomi and then link the yonomi scene in Alexa. Because when I connect Harmony to Alexa I am seeing all scenes as unresponsive
My desire then is when I talk into Alexa I can turn everything on.
Quick questions.
uxcell IR Infrared Receiver Extender Cable 2.5mm Jack 1.5m/4.9FT Long 26-39FT Receiving Distance CHD11 Black Head 5pcs https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07FKJP4Z1/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_TWS6BFHS1T466P5SBATN?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
here are replacements. If you decide to purchase something else, just make sure it has 2.5mm jack and not 3.5mm, the harmony is 2.5mm and will not fit the standard size. They do sell adapters though.
Once you have the blaster, connect it to one of the ports on the Harmony hub, and run the IR blaster to the projector, in a place where the IR blaster can talk to (see and communicate) with the projector.
This is what you need: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07VCB51CF/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_WM77QSNKK3CNTVXH7C5G
I have the same setup as you - Hub in AV rack, Epson projector. This blaster plugged into the hub and gives you the flexibility to run this closer to your projector so it's in line of sight. Controls my Epson 5050UB perfectly.
It was originally done back in 2016 when I went looking for an IR extender solution and think I found it on AVS Forum. It's this cable FYI. It's worked pretty well for me for the most part, but like I said I always seem to have issues every so often with it. Should that Ethernet solution work better using adapters to hook it up to the Harmony Hub?
I was never able to get it to work. I even said fuck it and about a fire TV stick, which the harmony was able to connect with but then it basically became useless since the fireTV stick has no reason to be off, but then it started giving me issues with my projector. Honestly overall the harmony hub was too much of a pain in the ass.
I ended up getting this instead -> https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08FXK18BY?psc=1
It works great with the Nvidia Shield, my receiver, and my projector. Has way more options than the harmony hub, and doesn't some sort of satanic ritual to setup.
It's been broken for months now. Just look at the recent reviews and you'll see everyone is in the same boat and there's no response from Amazon/Logitech.
I just got this Moes Wifi connected IR blaster.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B085Y47L4X?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_detail
I can control everything down to my PC using my Voice or a phone app. I use the Harmony remote to program it because all of my Remotes are already stored there. I found the hub limiting anyway since I can't control individual devices and map keys directly to scenes.
I've had this setup running since 2013. It's been flawless. The only errors I've ever had were when my code was buggy and that was 1,000% my own fault.
Here's a pic of two old Apple remotes I'm using to control my smart stuff. Even though I have Harmony, I still have those remotes sitting by the couch because it's convenient. All I ever have to say to anybody is "The white one controls the lights. The silver one controls the music" and they know how to use them intuitively.
P.S. If Logitech kills off Harmony completely, meaning that my Harmony hub stops working, I'll probably switch to a Sofa Baton next. It doesn't have activities as we know them, but there are always workarounds.
I’ve had a 650 and a 700. What I did when the buttons stopped working was open it up and use something like this
MG Chemicals 841-P Nickel Conductive Pen Resistivity 1 Ohm, (Replaced with 841AR-P Nickel Conductive Pen - Improved Conductivity) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DEEGYMM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_9K94FS334P6RDZGH06BY?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
This put the connectivity back into the button and it worked again. Problem is, it doesn’t last that long an I was doing it again 6 months later. So I eventually bought another.
However, with Logitech abandoning Harmony, this may become a necessity to continue on.
Is this a new setup or a change in behavior to an existing setup? I don’t have any answers, but I did see a review on Amazon that mentions a bunch of setup steps not mentioned in the instructions. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01K3VMBM0 check the review from Georgia Maria
You also have to purchase the charging cable to go with those. Unless of course you already have a spare charging cable.
Sony licensed some company to release an official PS4 IR receiver, that can receive IR signals and then relay them to the PS4. This device can turn on the PS4, and it's compatible with Harmony.
Here's a link to it on Amazon.
The slightly painful part is that you can't easily turn off the PS4 once it's turned on with this device. What I've done to control mine for both power on and power off is to setup both the Harmony to PS4 Bluetooth device and the PDP IR control, and put them both into the same activity. Then I setup the Power On to go through the PDP IR receiver, and turning off (really standby) to go through Bluetooth (as the Harmony PS4 Bluetooth profile already has the steps needed to navigate through the menus to put the PS4 into standby mode).
It works. You just have to be aware when putting the PS4 into standby through the Harmony Hub that you need to be somewhere in the PS4 interface where pressing the PS button would bring you to the main PS4 menu interface (so pretty much anywhere in a game, or hovering over the Store in the main menu), and that you can't touch any connected controller buttons while it's navigating to standby (a fact my child seems to take delight in ignoring). Even bumping a button trying to put a controller into a charging dock while it's navigating to standby is enough to throw off the lengthy button-press sequence from the Harmony -- which is a bit of a PITA when it happens, as now all your devices are off except your PS4, which will sit wherever it landed (I usually go in via Remote Play on my iPad Pro to complete the turn-off navigation).
HTH!
Not sure how to do exactly what you are asking but there is this device which may help you. It does work with the ps5 despite being for ps4
https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Receiver-Logitech-Harmony-Control-4/dp/B01K3VMBM0
I bought one of these https://www.amazon.com/Haokiang-Female-Stereo-Splitter-Gold-Plated/dp/B07FKB71SW/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=3+way+3.5mm+splitter&qid=1609092922&sprefix=3+way+3.5&sr=8-3
Along with a 3.5mm to 2.5mm adapter. Since the 3 ends are all3.5mm I bought standard 3.5 extension cables and 3.5 ir blasters, works great
The original adapter is 5.1v 1.0A.
I have mine plugged to one of these extension leads with integrated USBs, 5v 2.4A max, with all slots in use by the TV, Raspberry Pi's, external HD, Fire stick..... Works perfectly.
So, yes. Any 5V 1A of higher A should be fine.
Amazon is selling it:
I actually ordered one and it's being delivered tomorrow. Would you mind sharing your power off sequence?
I don’t completely understand what you’re trying to do but I am waiting for an IR receiver from Amazon to control my Pioneer VSX 91TXH since the front receiver isn’t working. My research suggests the IR receiver has to be powered or it won’t work. I’m planning to plug the red IR receiver section of this product into the Pioneer using a male to male 3.5mm cable and power it via USB as someone described in the reviews: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01HPXO11S/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 My male To male cable is stereo. Will let you know if it works
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01K3VMBM0/
I used that and it worked great both for turning on and off. Though for off, I did have to use a macro to run through the menu and do the long power off in the main dashboard.
Was hoping it would work on the PS5, but the PS5 doesnt recognize it at this time.
There's actually a workaround that works today:
You can add a “computer” device to Harmony, and it will emulate a Bluetooth computer keyboard.
Install the Button Mapper app.
Use Button Mapper to intercept an unused keyboard key, say F1
, and have it launch the Netflix app.
When defining the Watch Netflix activity, add both the real Chromecast device and the computer keyboard to it.
Set up the Watch Netflix activity to press F1
on the computer keyboard.
Use the Harmony app to start the Watch Netflix activity, and follow the prompts to pair the Harmony remote to the Chromecast.
You can. Shield remote doesn't have function keys. But it will receive those button inputs if you send them. Harmony remotes can send F1-F12 to Shield. I use this trick in conjunction with an app called Button Mapper.
When you run Button Mapper on Shield you can customize F1-F12 to do various things including launching app of your choice. And by mapping F1-F12 to your desired buttons on Harmony remote, you can achieve what you've described.
You can do this using the app Button mapper
You can map any button to an app. On my Android TV, I've mapped them to buttons I don't typicaly use, like the red, green, blue and yellow buttons.
Yeah you can use an app called button mapper and assign whatever button you want to open an app on the shield, I use the four coloured buttons to open several apps.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=flar2.homebutton
It’s not this model exactly but I have something similar to this I’ve been experimenting with. Not ideal for a finished solution, but I’ve been testing this controlling a pi in turn controlling Bluetooth and IR devices!
Rii i8 2.4GHz RF Mini Wireless Keyboard with Touch Pad Mouse Black UK Layout KODI XBMC Raspberry Pi Android Box HTPC IPTV Remote Control https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B016A6NSL0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_DhZmFbG0FPRXX
Next step is to implement “activity” style setups but I’m keen to find a good remote before proceeding as it’s only worth it if that exists
Also I wasn’t aware FLIRC could receive and transmit via software? I thought it just converted IR signals into keyboard strokes? If it can - it would be nicer even than the solution I was looking at — Energenie ENER314-IR Infra Red Controller PCB https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00T9JPA4O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_cbZmFbR8AXHJ8
I don't know of any offhand, but I do think I understand what you're asking for. My first thought it seeing if you can get a model number for something like https://www.amazon.com/Flameless-Battery-operated-Unscented-Flickering-Thanksgiving/dp/B075T9Q5LD?ref_=fsclp_pl_dp_8 (comes with a remote with an on button, an off button, and that's it). My second thought would be maybe an AV switcher; a lot of those have on, off, and inputs (and the way Harmony handles inputs is stupid and strange, but maybe wouldn't pollute your setup) and not much else.
Sorry that's not more specific, and maybe not too helpful. I hope you can find something. Harmony is nice when it's nice, but it can get really annoying when it thinks it's smarter than you are!
Sadly, no. IR remotes don't communicate with the Shield.
You can purchase just the hub and either use the Harmony app as your remote or set up routines in GH and use your voice.
If you want to have a physical remote, the Harmony Companion (which I use) is $100 on Amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Harmony-Companion-Entertainment-915-000239/dp/B00N3RFC4G
How much is the shipping to get it from Amazon De? I think that is the item with hub included, judging by the comments. And you'd have to supply your own UK USB charger but that's easy.
Thanks to Amazon history, here's the one I purchased.
C2G / Cables To Go 40432 Single... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001DF7EC8
To be fair to others, I did do a little research first and it did appear some cheap ones have issues. I have this one connected through a wall Ethernet jack as I mentioned and use it for a Sony Bravia TV.
The Harmony can technically control my TV through IP control but every time I tried using it, it would lag and skip commands.
I've been looking for a K810/K811 replacement keyboard for a while and am hopful that with Logitech's release of the MX Keys full sized keyboard, that they create a compact "MX Anywhere Keys" keyboard to go with the MX line of mice which would be a more proper replacement for the K810/K811 keyboards. Out of desperation, and not without hesitation due it being huge, I ordered the full-sized MX Keys keyboards, and then the day after it shipped, I learned of a brand new offering by Satechi which is somewhere in between a compact and a full-size keyboard, so I just ordered that one now from amazon.com with coupon code "BACKLIT20" to save $16 bringing the total to $63.99. Also worth noting is that both the Satechi and Logitech MX Keys allow you to toggle the pairing between three bluetooth devices.
At this point I'm inclined to just return the logitech MX Keys immediately once it arrives just because it is huge and I don't really need the extras of a full-sized keyboard. The Satechi calls itself compact, but it's more of a compact full-size keyboard than a true compact... So stil a bit bigger than I'd like, but at least a step in the right direction...
In the meantime, I'm still waiting for a real compact replacement to match what I've enjoyed with the K810 which thus far has been the most perfect keyboard I've ever had.
Here’s the thing. I can’t find the Smart Control anywhere. And the companion is super cheap at Amazon at the moment. I’m in the uk.
Logitech Harmony Companion All-in-One Remote Control for Smart Home and Entertainment Devices, Hub and Application, Black https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B014GXQ3S4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_4rwUDb552S19R
What do you think of this?
I wanted to be as simple as possible, since I'm not the only one using the TV and it should be user-friendly for all.
I have the simple Logitech Harmony Smart Remote Control.
If someone else doesn't go to the YouTube app via pressing the YouTube activity button, I would like to came back to the old activity without thinking which activity is the current one.
I also like Harmony and it helps me a lot to use just one remote control for all my needs, but sometimes I think it should be more customizable.
I can only speak about the PS4. I have a Harmony Elite. I also had to buy this PDP adapter. LINK But it works flawlessly for turning the PS4 on and off.
Amazon is gouging this time of year Logitech Harmony Smart Remote Add-on for Harmony Ultimate Hub https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LTKGFDQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_cjieCbKPA4T63 And walmarts not so bad https://www.walmart.com/ip/Logitech-Harmony-Smart-Remote-Add-on-for-Harmony-Ultimate-Hub/835911366
My advice is to avoid that one like the plague. Those six orange buttons towards the top are locked down. They're called Home Control buttons and they only work for specific devices, and even if they work for a device you have, they only can do certain things, so they might end up being useless or aggravating.
This remote is the same, minus those six stupidly locked down buttons. It also looks better in real life (though the images online don't show that well). It's excellent.
No, but Logitech makes (or made) a Harmony keyboard that integrates with that system:
Logitech Harmony Smart Keyboard Add-On for Harmony Ultimate Hub Remotes (915-000241) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LTKGFCW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_96NFAbC5NEKTN
okay, there is a way.... you will need to put your harmony hub in a box that blocks IR signals. Hopefully your radio still travels through this box. Then get some IR blaster extender things https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01JLTEJKM/ref=asc_df_B01JLTEJKM5255586 You will need one for each device you control with that hub... then you will need to use a cover of some kind to keep the IR signal from getting past direct contact. Just place the IR LED directly on the sensor for the TV, and other devices. If there is cross talk, use electrical tape on the LED.
This copies from another thread and the instructions I followed: "An easier way to use the Harmony hub with the shield is to download this app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=innerlife.keyboard.multilanguagekeymapredefiner) to the shield and then in the harmony hub settings add the shield as a Windows PC (which makes the hub a BT keyboard in the shield settings). Using the app linked above you can configure specific buttons to launch specific apps. Since the shield thinks the harmony hub is a keyboard I just tell it to launch apps using the F buttons on top. F1 launches Netflix for example. Now moving on to the harmony settings, when you create an activity all you need to do is say tell the Windows PC device (the shield) to press F1 or F2 or whatever. The only issue with this setup is that you lose the onscreen keyboard on the shield for the old school android touch keyboard from the pre 4.0 era."
