Thank you so much! It's hard to not want to add something here or redo this or not see the tiny flaws which are probably invisible to others. I got this kit https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079JS1Q6G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_qjT8DbMKV9JDR
Which I want to do in a sort of grungy, trailer trash type aesthetic. It already kinda has that vibe, so it shouldn't be too hard.
I got on Amazon - ZUINIUBI Doll House Kit DIY Miniature Loft Handmade House Furnished with Accessories Dust-Proof Cover and Assemble Tool Birthday Gift for Kids Adults Fitness Loft https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KYDRKVT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_PA7JCb27M4CNZ
The kit is Greenleaf Harrison. It's my first go at building a dollhouse. When I was a kid my grandpa had a workshop and made these things all the time. I was always interested in watching him, and decided to try making one for my niece for her birthday.

I agree with the other comment about not pulling everything apart, leave it all attached until you need it!
For tools, I recommend crafting tweezers like these. They are great for stickers and holding things when you need some precision!
it’s called blue times! this company has a ton of other really cute ones too, i have my eye on their greenhouse and coffee shop sets!
This was the kit I used. It’s always so cool to see what people do to customize it! Rolife DIY Dollhouse Miniatures Craft Kits for Adults (Sam’s Study) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Q5W6P3S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_i_DCWcGbBQPK8EN
I found the one you did - it’s nearly the same as mine but with stairs, a slightly different roof and different accessories. I did one sometimes labeled “Kevin’s Studio” by Robotime. They are soooo similar...both are even pink. The main body is pretty much identical.
Edit: okay now that I look they’re pretty different, but someone was definitely copying lol.
Sorry that link is a mile long
It's called "Sunshine Greenhouse". You can find it on both Amazon and Ebay.
It's taking a while to make yes. Lots of bits. Stephen Fry reading "Mythos" helps keep me company lol.
It's called "Sunshine Greenhouse". You can find it on both Amazon and Ebay.
I have this kit and it’s a two parter the room and the living room
Is it this kit? https://www.amazon.com/ROBOTIME-Dollhouse-Miniature-Library-Birthday/dp/B06X3VNJBZ
If so, it says it's 1:24.
An easy way to figure it out at first is to measure something in it that you also have (like a chair) and then math it like.. is this 1 foot to 1 inch? Or one foot to half an inch?
((these make me bananas because i can think in metric but miniatures are done in inches))
I found it on Amazon
Amazon! Just be advised, it is a bit pricey. I received it as a Christmas gift.
I love what you did there! Cardboard is a tough one, but really great to build with. I f you think you will be doing more of these, one suggestion that may help... since it's really difficult to get smooth rounds cut into cardboard, get yourself a set of hollow punch dies.
https://www.amazon.com/Hollow-Cutter-Leather-Cutting-Handmade/dp/B08T94ZLXM
It depends on how much you want to spend/how much you want to craft! I would say the absolute easiest thing would be to find recycled material that may have a small half sphere, paint it black, and glue some discarded wires one may have laying around. Otherwise you could try going to a Dollar Store and finding some nail art cabochons that come in a pack and pick up some random cording to add to it for wiring.

This very general advice, but perhaps you could also supply some "inspiration" images so we could be more specific in our suggestions.
For what it's worth, after wrestling with a homemade Raspberry Pi miniature wheel for a month, I bought this one back in June. I was a bit leery about the reviews too but figured anything would be better than my janky DIY prototype and I was right. I love this little machine!! I suspect the reviews are coming from folks who don't understand they're buying a miniature pottery wheel. It needs a light touch and is only appropriate for very small pieces, and I had to build a dopey little back splash box to contain the mess, but overall it's miles better than I expected. 🤷♀️
Also, I have limited experience with, uh, life-sized pottery throwing but the mini version is a whole different beast. It's a totally different skillset as far as I can tell (but also it's dang fun so classes would still be useful imo).
They sell remote controlled fairy lights! I bought some before (the type I got can actually shift colors and one can select a single color if wanted). Here's one such example off Amazon.
what about the straws they make for bubble tea? Like these:
https://www.amazon.com/ALINK-Plastic-Bubble-Smoothie-Milkshakes/dp/B07P2KTYGG
Half inch wide is a little wide for 1:12 scale (I'm assuming that's what you're working in?) but it's not too bad.
Regular drinking straws are about a quarter of an inch wide, which translates to a 3" wide drinking glass, which seems about right?
After my first couple kits, I came to the same conclusion, and the kind friends in this group suggested Beacon 3-in-1 glue. It’s a game-changer and the one bottle I got is still half full after two completed builds. Beacon 3-in-1 Advanced Craft Glue 8 oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008O5WVBE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_RV5PVKJGAYZS77GZKC1D?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Thanks! It's about 6.5"×5.5". Like a big altoids tin. It's a box theatre kit. I did it a couple years ago during lockdown; I kept seeing ads for these box theatres when I was playing games on my phone. They still have it on Amazon for only $11. You will need lots of tools and glues.
There are clear heat moldable plastics like this that are an option. https://www.amazon.com/Reusable-Making-Water-package-Clear/dp/B07M9XS3FX/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?keywords=clear+clay&qid=1649898331&sr=8-5 Otherwise, my best luck has been with 3d printed resin. Sometimes Etsy sellers can do custom orders if you need it to be specific.
I got it on Amazon looks like they're out but here's the brand and other modelslink

He will want to get a pair of mini side nippers for cutting the nibs flush that hold the parts to the metal sheets. I would also recommend a small pair of needle-nose pliers and a variety tweezer set. Here is a nice kit on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Including-Twisting-Cylinder-Tweezers-Assembly/dp/B08XQQYB4P
It's the "time travel" caravan kit on Amazon. Even though it says 1:24 it's a 1:16 scale.
Fyi. Windows need sanded to fit. I found that sanding the corners helped the most.
I made the sofa and dinning set. It's slightly different than the ones that come with it. I did this so I could switch the layout around.
I also used aluminum tape for sink and oven. And textured shelf liner for windows. I pretty much didn't use any of the fabrics that came with the kit.
I made lamps from paper and wire.
I'm still new to miniatures but found a lot of useful techniques on YouTube and in this kit.

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. I have a bunch of other stuff for 1:18 / 3.75" figures, most of them free- check it out here https://cults3d.com/en/users/zanzas_toys
I also upload videos once a week on toy design / toy making- usually miniatures, but sometimes other types of toys. If that's something you're into, please consider subscribing- thanks either way, though!
I got mine from the robotime website but it looks like it's a little cheaper on Amazon :) They also have a bunch of different ones if you are interested in those as well!
This one is on Amazon. Note that they did a bunch of really cool extra work to distress it, but the kit is very good on it's own.
I second all this. I get a lot of my tools and things from the dollar stores as they carry a surprisingly large amount of sandpapers and sanding sponges. I also picked up a cheap three set of different types of tweezers in their tool section which has been useful. I would also suggest picking up some of their clay tools and dotting tools if it has the craft section for working with sculpting things. Hot glue guns are also available and tubes of superglue. Other great things to get there because they're cheap and you don't need to buy super expensive kit: Sewing needles and tooth brushes. Again, all stuff for either really delicate work or sculpting or texturing. Depending on if you're planning on using things like wooden dowels, grab dog nail clippers because they're fantastic for cutting them and wires.

Also going to suggest picking up these telescoping magnetic wand. Saved me a lot of grief picking up small metal tools or wire when working with it. At the end of the day, I would say pick what is best suited to whatever medium you'll be using. Personally, I've found it easier to pick things up as I go rather than getting big bundles so I can decide what needs to be high quality and expensive and what I can get cheaply/is easily replaceable.

Thanks a bunch, I have been using all sorts of social medias, but I have been on and off of them, and have them too scattered around so I’m not sure what iv posted on what. My main social media is probably my YouTube and minds. And currently, the book is on hold, and I am working on short films.

Yep here you go! Theres a couple on Amazon as well as this other site if you prefer not to use Amazon:

I think it’s this one (I have it too), though have a look around as I got mine cheaper on eBay.
I found the light kit you need on Amazon. It's by Flever but they use the same set up as Rolife (3volt).
Paris seems to need 1 bulb and Patio needs 3, so if you stack both kits together you can wire all 4 bulbs onto just 1 battery case.
If you are cost conscious I have a spare battery case with switch from my kits I can post to you for free (am in Aus too). Then you can just order a handful of prewired DC3V LED bulbs from Ebay for a few bucks to make up the light kit. Let me know.
Personally I think it's because they want to make the price more attractive for Kmart. Nevertheless I'm pleased to find them available in such a "mainstream" place lol.
Hope to see your work in the sub soon! Cheers.
I was going to but the listing disappeared. I found this one, bigger version kit
Also if you just type miniature kits or just miniatures into Amazon you'll get tons of stuff
I got this kit on amazon :)
My absolute favourite is this one below and would definitively recommend this:
I didn’t modify this kit as it looks fantastic the way it is!
The name of it is Japanese Home with Pergola. Not sure if I can put links here but here you go! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08945WGH6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_PKKRQT5087H91T38KHJF?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
The Sam Study floor was very thin dollhouse wood flooring I bought on a miniature webstore. I put a light varnish on it. However, Sam's Study was my first mini and I had no experience, and I wouldn't buy that flooring again simply because it was unnecessarily expensive. I mean it was probably something like 15$ but little things add up fast in the miniature world. I try to keep my materials as cheap as possible.
I use very thin coffee stirrers to do wooden floors now. There are many that are crooked but for the price, it's still worth it, and it can be used on multiple projects depending on their size.

It was a kit (link below), and thank you! I'm hesitant to start my own, but this subreddit/kits have helped me kind of understand the process. I'll probably start my first homemade when I move this summer!

paper? The only thing that's paper is the label. the bag was made from metal.I just bought some stylus that did not work and got some pliers and when I bend it looked like a chips bag. (looked something like this but I didn't buy it on Amazon)

The glue recommended above is what I used as well and it works great. Grab one of these bottles to use it with. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EZWY3WU?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Inexpensive tools that will make the build much easier.
This is the glue I use. I also get an exacto I knife and straightedge to cut the paper things more precisely than scissors, but it's not required.
Miller's Garden and Cutebee Rose Garden Tea House. They know that I like plants and pastries! I think I'll do the Cutebee one next, as it's probably a bit different than the Robolife ones. I suspect certain techniques or pieces are shared between kits from the same manufacturers and I'd hate to get to a part where I've already done similar pieces and know that I don't enjoy them.
Yep! With some slight modifications. It’s called Rainbow Cafe by Flever.
Flever Dollhouse Miniature DIY House Kit Creative Room with Furniture for Romantic Artwork Gift-Rainbow Cafe https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07VWH9QHX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_Qap0FbGXHCM4W
FWIW, this was the first miniature kit that I ever built.. It was of pretty good quality and wasn’t too difficult to tackle for a first-timer IMO. I did the “holiday” one, but there are a couple of other variations as well. And it wasn’t too expensive; I honestly don’t quite know how the brands for these things work (the box says “Cute Room”, but it can be found listed under various other brands online like Flever, Kisoy, etc.), so if you’re interested in this one, I’d say just shop around until you can find the best deal. If you ever look at mail catalogs like Acorn, Signals, etc. they sell some model kits which are all from a company called Robotime I believe. These are good quality but they are generally more expensive, around $40 or so. In general, small “roombox” kits (where you build just a room or a small apartment) are decent for beginners, and you can find several online for around $25-$30.
A couple other tips: first, if you have the option to get a dust cover with a kit, by all means get it. It will fit the specific kit that you buy and you won’t have to find one of the right size later. Also (unless you or your partner can read Mandarin) make sure the instructions are in English! I am currently working on a kit with instructions in Chinese, and although I have been able to follow the diagrams so far, it’s still a bit of a challenge!
I hope this helps!
Thank you! The screen around the glass is modelled in 3d design software and 3d printed. I can share the model if you'd like to print it yourself though I think it needs some modification for curvature of the glass. The hole punch is an amazing invention in my opinion :) here is a link to one that's exactly like mine: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Screw-Punch-Tips-Super-Sharp/dp/B00BAUT64K
Robotime. They make super cute kits and I love when people customize them. Buy from their official store on Amazon.

A little house scene under a globe from Amazon. It's about 1:48 scale, but I think a little smaller than that. It's super cute, but soooo small!
The kit is called "kitten diary" :D i bought it from an online store in our country but there's one in amazon too.

It’s so cute, really easy ( I put mine together in a day or so), if lights up, really small and compact, and under $25.
I’m pretty new as well. I bought a few inexpensive kits at the beginning that really really helped get the ball rolling and now I can take what I learned from those and do more original stuff which is what I really like.
Kits like this are fairly inexpensive and small enough that you don’t get burned out on them before they are done, and it’s a good way to get into the lighting aspect too without too much work. Instructions are not always in English tho so you gotta study the pictures
