I think trying to avoid triggers is like trying to not think of a pink elephant. Listen to the Happiness Podcast, episode Don't Think of the White Bear.
Here is a link if you have Google Podcast.
It's really good. Let me know what you think of the episode, I just discovered this podcast and I've binged it.
PS- how old are you? I think age is related
Edit: I read your post history and you seem like a young adult. Unfortunately, you will probably get new triggers until 20 or so. Any new triggers would happen anyway, regardless of what you do... Hopefully you can use that knowledge to not beat yourself up about any new triggers.
my coping mechanism.. is kind of strange but i use android epub book reader
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.foobnix.pdf.reader&hl=en_US&gl=US
with google text to speech (the UK woman's voice but there a lot of choices) and have it read me books at a pretty low volume while i'm working. you can still respond when someone bugs you but the general background noises are not as noticeable. Also it'a mechanical (ish) voice so there are no mouth noises or breath noises and I get to listen to a cool story while working.
So that's what I do.. dono if it will work for you.. best of luck
That’s so frustrating, I’m really sorry they haven’t been supportive of you. I don’t know what it is about this condition that tends to make people so unkind. I’m lucky in that my mum has come round to being understanding and explained it to my dad, but for a while my dad always got so annoyed at me whenever I was bothered by chewing, like I was somehow feeling that way on purpose or something. Since your family is being so uncaring, I suggest you look into getting earplugs or headphones if you haven’t already. This is the kind I use, they are very discreet, comfortable to wear, and block out chewing quite well.
If you keep the noise machine on the side of the vent, you probably won't be able to hear him. I recommend getting the Lectrofan, it's much better than just playing white noise through an ordinary speaker. The noise will practically fill the room, and if you set it upright, you can "aim" it so the noise is louder.
theres sound deadening furniture like curtains, havent tried them yet bc im moving soon but my therapist said it worked for them
Wow, I'm really sorry. Moving from a rural area to a city is a bit of a culture shock anyway, and this would make it so much worse.
I wonder if something like this would help: Loop Experience earplugs.
My daughter has misophonia, and I bought her these when we recently went to a concert, although admittedly more for volume than misophonia concerns. She said they worked well.
I wondered if something like this might help you because it's noninvasive, doesn't need charging, and isn't pumping any more noise into your ears. It would also just give you a break from having headphones on.
If you still want sound, I just bought these earbuds at Target for $30. I haven't had a chance to really use them but my daughter popped them in yesterday and said they canceled a lot of noise, although I don't see anything saying they are specifically noise-canceling. But maybe if you could find a good pair of earbuds, and some are noise-canceling, it would at least give you something to alternate the headphones with.
Good luck.
Get these earplugs, they don't hurt! You probably don't want to sleep with them if you have long(er) hair though.

White noise machine could work. I got this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07RWRJ4XW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and it works great. It is super customizable, covers the softer sounds, and blends into the background very quickly.
Oh yes this all sounds very familiar to me.
Now I'm certainly not a therapist, but then again I'm pretty sure your therapist doesn't have misophonia
I couldn't live without these. They're cheap, and they work (for me).

Dealing with this whole deal (I have engines and barking dogs, too) is just a day-by-day, situational thing using a combo of earplugs, music, grin and bear, headphones, getting the fuck outta there, etc. It's annoying, but you'll be fine.
What is the living situation? Are sharing a dorm room with her? Or is this some kind of apartment? Is she your only roommate? For example, if there is another roommate(s), could you switch the room pairings?
The other thing I'd suggest is sleepphones. These are head bands with flat speakers in them, made for sleeping. I don't have misophonia (my daughter does) but I use them and they're pretty comfortable. They aren't noise canceling, but you might be able to listen to white noise, or another color noise, or music or even a podcast to drown out/cover the noise your roommate makes. If you don't like that, maybe a white noise generator?
This is the main app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tmsoft.whitenoise.full and then there's another one from the same developer called White Noise Market where you can download like millions of other sounds for it. The main app lets you make custom mixes, my go-to is a waterfall + rainforest birds! And still lets me listen to podcasts, music etc. I also use this free meditation timer to ping me every so often to remind me to relax any muscle tension: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sohamgreens.MeditationTimer
Not earbuds, but my daughter uses these headphones.
My son uses these earplugs when we go to concerts.
I've seen people on this forum mention loop earbuds, not sure how well they work but some seem to like them.
I'm a fan of Mack's earplugs. Occasionally I'll try others just to see if there's anything better out there but I always end up going back to Mack's. I haven't had any blackheads/pimples and I wear them every night.

I understand what you are going through and you do not have to suffer alone. I would suggest getting some earbuds that you can wear. I use them in the house and walking around. You can still hear some noises but it drastically reduces most of what you hear. They are called “loop earplugs” I got them off of amazon. Also, I wear them under headphones at times. All I hear is the music that I want to hear and it’s great! Loop Earplugs
Hey, there’s a bunch of different ones if you search for them. But amazon has some for example. I got my set at Marshall’s.
