Think of it like a government trying to determine your identity. They may use multiple nodes, make a database of IP addresses, and build the database up with correlations to VPN providers, etc. It would be fairly easy to determine that this particular user is using this particular VPN. Now if they have any kind of jurisdiction or treaty with that entity or country that provides the VPN address, its just a matter of contacting them to find out more about you.
If you want to be electronically anonymous, you have to use a service that cannot be tied back to you in any way. Public internet, then Tor or I2P from there, or use an ISP that you have paid cash to, with no identifying information and then Tor or I2P from there. (not easy to do).
ProtonVPN (which also has Tor exit nodes) allows you to pay with cryptocurrency (cash), and sign up without any identifying information. But that is only from the ProtonVPN side. You probably still have an ISP that knows who you are.
In actual practice, if you are targeted by an adversary that has deep pockets, it would be very easy to find almost anybody that uses the internet.
The confirmation time (10 blocks) fluctuates. This is because the target time for a block is 2 minutes, but some blocks are mined slower than 2 minutes, making the confirmation time longer (> 20 minutes).
If you know when the transaction in question was, you can check to see if there were "slower" blocks around that time: https://localmonero.co/blocks
Well cakewallet is using changenow.io to do the 'swap' however, you may find lower fees over at fixedfloat.com.
What's your goal though? to turn xmr into fiat? there may be cheaper options for you (depending on where you are located ofcourse) , e.g. if you wanted to get USD, Kraken has an xmr/usd pairing , maybe this will turn into an r/xmrtrader question?
If you already have the LTC, and want to get XMR, you can use one of these services to do the exchange:
https://changenow.io/ --I've used them in the past. happy with the service
These questions are perfectly suitable for a discussion on /r/Monero - you can post them there :D
Tl;dr
Yes, don't use a custodial wallet (make sure you own your private keys)
Yes, as long as it's not a custodial wallet
If you want to go P2P, you could use https://localmonero.co, where you find other users wanting to sell it.
If you want an exchange, Kraken and Poloniex both have Monero for USD
Otherwise, buy BTC/ETH on any other fiat exchange (depends on your country), then transfer to an exchange that trades Monero and buy it there. Alternative to transferring to an exchange, you can use a service such as https://morphtoken.com to do that too.
I'd recommend you get more insight from a broader discussion at /r/Monero though :)
Well in that case, the silver lining is that you will get much better performance out of your node if you use a high-quality microSD card, than a hard drive.
If you notice long delays when sending transactions or refreshing your wallet, that is a result of using rotating media and their notoriously awful random seek times.
I am using this card for over 9 months now and it works great.
It's this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=xmr.org.freewallet.app
v1.1.57
Is it any good? I guess it should have stored the wallet file somewhere on the phone?
>hai esperienza con la riga di comando / terminale
I created a new wallet from: https: [//moneroaddress.org/](//moneroaddress.org/)
I entered the seed in the GuiWallet and it works.
The public address from: https: [//blockchair.com/search](//blockchair.com/search) does not give results instead, and now I understand why.
I have no experience with command line / terminal, I have always used GUI
I stopped using localmonero.co because the sellers on there are really sneaky, and i've been burned a few times. The staff will pretty much side with the vendor every time. However, I have made a few successful trades and trust a few people, so I just deal with them off the platform. I know I lose the escrow, but again, i trust these people and don't need it anyways.
There are several "profitability" calculators online. Keep in mind, the variables are not static.
Glad you like the video. I like to use this mining calculator. You should be able to see your profits from that. How long it takes to get any rewards depends on your pool. Specifically what kind of payout method it uses, what the minimum withdrawal amount is, and what their fee is. In my experience, what people say is a “good” hashrate is somewhere between 5,000-18,000. But in all honesty, I think any amount of hashes is good. The more decentralized the network is, (by more miners not using the top 3 pools) the better.
If you gave the right address everything should turn out to be fine.
Can you check the Tx provided by changelly.com ? Is the transaction confirmed by the Blockchain ?
I would try to switch GUI-wallet from simple mode to simple mode (bootstrap). Then resync the Blockchain.
Well, if you have a paper wallet the first question would be: what kind of paper wallet. Do you have a mnemonic seed of sorts? What does the QR code translates to? Maybe a private key hash? If it's a mnemonic seed I would try restoring that into the Electrum wallet (https://electrum.org/). Once you have that up and running and your wallet stored, then I would proceed to send that BTC to a website that converts BTC to XMR. You might use your favorite exchange or one of these "Instant" exchanges like MophToken.
That is possible. Can you quantify your internet connection (run a speed test)? https://fast.com/ has been good for me. Be sure to click on Show more info so see the latency. If the latency is high enough, the daemon may appear to fail to load.
The restore height I believe the UI lets you put a restore height in, but you can also choose a block to start at.
https://localmonero.co/blocksfor example 1999999 is dated 2019-12-30 04:29:47 UTC
so if your transaction happened after this date/time then 1999999 would be good to use, you can literally put 0 or 1, it just takes longer to scan the entire chain.

Feel free to ask whatever questions you have, just know your funds are safe no matter what so long as the nano has not been reset and has a new seed.
Mind PM'ing me view key and addresses? Maybe you didn't enter a fee/too low of a fee and it caused your transaction to never really go through.
You can check what fees were sent along with the transaction via entering the view/transaction key at https://localmonero.co/blocks
Only PM me the key if you need help seeing the fees sent :)
Hi,
I have finally gotten around to following this up. Been a busy few months. Anyway. Thankyou so much for all of your assistance.
I have recreated the monero wallet from my Ledger and the Primary account address matches the account address that I originally sent the 7 XMR to back in January of 2021. A search of the TxId address on https://localmonero.co/blocks of the original XMR sent to the account address shows the transaction.
But no sign of the XMR in that account
So confused.
So to confirm I've recreated the wallet successfully from the Ledger.
The Wallet is synchronised and shows the same Primary account address that I used to send it from Bittrex back in January 2021
There is no account history/transactions
There is no XMR in the primary account.
I have the ledger. I have access to the correct primary account.
What am I missing? Clearly something big lol.
Appreciate any assistance.
Kind regards
Lee
I think if you have the transaction hash, you can find it on a block explorer: https://localmonero.co/blocks
How long did you wait to check your wallet? It may take a while to show up. I think monerujo has the transactions in the app as well.
He send the adress to me with privnote.com and I of course keept a copy oft it. So the subadress is 100% right. I withdrawelt from Kraken, which now I know wasn´t the smartest thing to do. Kraken send me the transactioncheck which states that one pubkey owns the output, but receiver still says that his Pub-key doesnt match the Transaction/hash i got the private key for. So after reviewing all that, you say (just like kraken support) the transaction went into that subadress wallet for 100% , right??? I just need to confirm for myself that the receiver is bullshitting me to get on with things....He´s allways getting back and quite convincing, but it could also just mean that its tactics to even screw more out of me. Thanks for your great help so far.
No, I use mymonero.com:8443 as an external server for many months and on main page got 0.0000000. I changed the server to node.moneroworld.com: 18089 and now Igot Login Error in main page. Putting back the old on still give me Login Error. I really don't understand. Maybe I have to resync but I don't know exactly what to do
I dont have any balance. Only mining fee at +000066009466
I use an online wallet (dont have the whole blockchain locally)
I use ChangeNow.io as my regular converter site Coinsquare dont offer XMR. Maybe it'a a problem on you side. I transferred lot of bitcoin with CS without any problem.

.
Yes, I have Tx hash and I can see some details about the transaction on xmrchain.net. And I sent the Tx hash to ChangeNow (a couple months ago), they answered "we're unable to detect your deposit". Also, changenow.io website shows progress for each exchange, and in my case it always stays in the "Awaiting deposit" stage (even now), like nothing ever arrived (after more than two months, the exchange request is still open and waiting my deposit). Maybe there is some other (unknown to me) way to check a transaction...
Go here and mess around with the Restore height until you are close to yours.
https://localmonero.co/blocks/search/1399999
This is

Hey! You should just be able to reinstall the gui. Then for restore height you can use something like. Timestamp2017-09-16 for 1399999 even if yours is after this date it just takes a little longer. Just estimate you can use https://localmonero.co/blocks to find a better blockchain height but anything way before your transaction Will work. Otherwise when setting up the gui wallet just set it up with the hardware wallet. Feel free to reply to this comment for help I have lots of experience with ledger and monero
Appreciate your expertise. I'm paying closer attention to the node syncing right now before I pm anyone. Just so I know, is the gold standard for current blockchain height https://localmonero.co/blocks or some other blockchain explorer?
BTW, I notice the current blockchain height is often +1 higher on https://localmonero.co/blocks than on the .onion remote nodes xmr guide. Is this normal?
Yep, you can transfer coins to their wallet (but not back to their platform). https://www.etoro.com/en-us/customer-service/help/1320587972/how-do-i-transfer-cryptocurrency-from-the-etoro-trading-platform-to-my-etoro-wallet/#:~:text=You%20can%20withdraw%20supported%20cryptocurrencies,your%20trading%20account's%20login%20cred....
Got it. Can you put the logs from the cli here? That should provide more information.
Also, please check how much _free_ space you have with Disk Utility: https://support.apple.com/guide/disk-utility/welcome/mac
I was connected to NordVPN when i started installing the Monero wallet. I forgot it was connected to Canada and Im from the US. I disconnected the vpn completely to hopefully speed up the process of it syncing. But it seems like its stuck or something now. It keeps disconnecting from the daemon. what should i do?
Install monerujo on your phone https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.m2049r.xmrwallet&hl=en_ZA&gl=US
1.Restore your wallet from seed
Sync with a public node, the wallet should find list some if you click on add node
Move your coins to a new wallet asap! (before the scammers do)
Update: Well, the good news (such as it is) is that although I finally had to reset the computer, both the local data files and the XMR amount are intact. That said, it still doesn't solve the long-term issue of how/why this happened in the first place.
I'm beginning to wonder if us Windows users running a local node on a conventional hard drive should simply just switch to a remote node. I was really trying to be a good Monero Netizen by running a remote node, but it's things like this that make me wonder if that's such a bright idea. Surely if I go through a VPN to preserve at least some privacy for myself (ExpressVPN) it should lessen the security risk???
Anyway, I still look forward to hearing from anyone about possible solutions on this one!
I can't help with the MacOS part but on my PC I'm using Private Internet Access VPN with the latest GUI.
All I have to do is connect to the VPN then launch the GUI, nothing needs punched, though the wife needs slapped around once in a awhile. (That was a joke).
