I'd suggest SoftEther VPN + VPN Gate addon. Its free, works fine, has multiple servers and is fairly fast. Also safe and not profit motivated as it is made by the University of Tsukbaka in Japan, specifically for situations like ours in Burma.
Common Phrases, read these two myanmar travel information.com and wikitravel. Most of the westerners cannot pronounce a lot of Burmese words, just heads up for you.
Commonly accepted currencies at the money changer : Euro, USD, SGD, CNY, JPY, RM, THB, AUD.
Crisp notes rule is true until 2012. Not anymore.
Large denomination price is higher than small notes, that's not only applicable in Myanmar, the whole SEA region have this practice. If your note is torn, defaced, written something, signed/stamped .. they might refuse to take on the ground of counterfeit or damaged note.
Airport, banks and large shopping malls have money changers.
I just came back from Myanmar. Family of 3 for 12 days trip, brought about 1500 SGD and still have S$300 left. We stayed in hotel, took express buses and a flight between Yangon and Mandalay. We used family cars in both cities. For one person travelling many places for 10 days, 1000 USD should be more than enough. (Of course, not staying in expensive hotels.)
Beware about credit card merchant fees (up to 5%): It's not worth it. Bring cash and reserve your card for emergency.
If you want a full picture of the situation, including historical backgrounds, then I would recommend getting hold of this book by Thant Myint U: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hidden-History-Burma-Capitalism-Democracy/dp/1786497875/ref=sr_1_1
Also look for his recent interviews on YouTube.
Amazon has a free e-book called Bountiful Burmese Recipes ; I found it really helpful when trying to recreate what my Mom used to cook me when I was a child.
As a non-burmese yankie
I've been reading this recently It covers pre Burma history to about the 1990s

Though I don't know how credible it is compared to other Myanmar authors
I have also been reading stuff from bertil lintner which I found interesting as well
This guy's personal life is so much intertwined with Myanmar political history up until the recent coup. Worth reading if you are interested in Myanmar politics and history:

Well I am sure you guys can do reverse image search. Just drag your photo into https://images.google.com.
It is important that you set your search by Year, otherwise you will only see links from all these fake blogs. Earlier years likely to unveil true source.
You can find many "bait" fakes like pages like this. http://raajsoft.blogspot.sg/2015/06/barma-mein-mazloom-muslims-ka-qatal-e.html
For softether the logs are localized and more for diagnostic purposes. They can be disabled: https://www.softether.org/4-docs/1-manual/3._SoftEther_VPN_Server_Manual/3.A_Logging_Service
As for logs being taken by the Burmese junta, they do not have the expertise nor manpower to actively monitor them. Their modus operandi is to keep these logs for all users so they can use it to prosecute them once they are arrested.

Personally using Windscribe at the moment. Surfshark won't connect on 4G (any telcoms), yes I already got my refund.
Mullvad/IVPN still works but latency is not up to par for my taste.
Considering to get vpn.ac. Always a 24/7 vpn user so I need better ping from Myanmar to my fav location. Sometimes ISPs peering to certain data center is just plain bad.
