The water fountain encourages them to stay more hydrated. It keeps the water cleaner because there is a filter, but it also oxygenates the water which cats like, and they can smell it easier, so they will drink more of it. They also associate still water with disease, and water with their food is also usually avoided due to disease. So the water fountain is much more appetizing for kitties. Dehydration puts stress on the kidneys and age 8 is when cat kidneys begin to struggle so it becomes important to prevent chronic stress on the kidneys. There are different types of fountains depending on what kind of stream your cat would prefer. Luna likes this one with the top tube removed so that it is a puddle with water coming up through the middle like a spring. She loves that it’s running but she doesn’t like the drizzles from the flower. (You can remove the flower) https://www.amazon.com/Veken-Fountain-Automatic-Dispenser-Replacement/dp/B07DLXF7XL/ref=zg_bs_2975263011_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=1D20XE4R3VHQ0NR5R9MF
Poor baby 🥺 hopefully she has a speedy recovery! If she hates the neck pillow this is what we put our Margo in after she was spayed. It made a huge difference in her comfort and I’m getting her to eat/leave the incision alone. Sending hugs 💕
I didn't have my glasses on when I looked at it the first time and I thought his name was Baby Boomer. There are lots of those puzzle toys with treats, they looked kind of interesting: https://www.chewy.com/nina-ottosson-petstages-rainy-day/dp/253621?clickref=1100lwiEQvE4
Not sure about the paws, but found that my kitty has fewer poops stuck in buttfur if his buttfur is totally mat-free. They can hide little knots close to the tail base that trap things. We use this brush to brush out mats and he loves it.
While less dignified, you can also do a “sanitary cut” and shave his buttfur with clippers. The vet can do it, or you can do it as long as your clippers have a safety blade over so no nicking.
I actually got this tree from chewy.com! I have 3 different cat trees I’ve bought from there and my kitties love them all. I think there are a lot of good deals on the site as well!

How often does he get brushed? I got my cats this brush a few weeks ago and it works great on my Neb. Really pulls up loose hair effortlessly. I figure the less excess hair on her, the less going into her digestive tract.
We just bought one of these and ours loves it. Got rid of a matted area on his chest too.
Our boy loves this for normal brushing. Just clicking the hair remover thing at the back is enough to have Maple come running and screaming for brushes. It’s his favourite thing.
Then we have this for summer use but only occasionally. Once a month at most usually.
My Neb LOVES being groomed.
This is the deshedding brush we use and it works great https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01EZ7UOCM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
For daily brushing, I used the large Wahl slicker brush for my nebelung. She LOVED being brushed, and especially loved this brush. It did a good job of keeping her fur nice. https://www.amazon.com/WAHL-Premium-Ergronomic-Comfortable-Brushing/dp/B002GKRAWI
I just got the best deshedding brush! I'm glad I have the chance to share it with someone.
I have three cats with three different hair types. A Ragdoll with extremely thick, long hair, my Neb (you know this hair type), and a short-haired kitty. Works great on the Ragdoll and Neb, does absolutely nothing on the short haired cat. I was amazed at how effective this thing is. Way better than the furminator, and I love the furminator!
yes! mine does and she’s the only cat i’ve met who has ever had this problem. (even though i have raised other long-haired cats too!) i think it’s because she has such a denseee wooly undercoat, it’s just more difficult to groom, and easier for the flakes to accumulate. i mean her fur is like nothing i’ve ever seen/felt on a cat, even other longhairs! i know this sub has to know what i mean… the wooly textured undercoat with crimping and everything.. then super soft silky outer layer. it’s unique and high maintenance! and my cat is a goof at heart, not a princess. she doesn’t spend nearly as much time grooming herself as her siamese sister does. so i must do the grooming for her. lol. a great undercoat rake (specifically, this one ) and a nice fishy wet food (or adding fish oil to the wet food they like) both help tremendously. another idea is adding a humidifier to the spots they like to spend time in. i haven’t tried that one yet, but i plan to soon. my own skin is flaky too! f**k this winter air!! my elbows are turning as grey as my cat!
>colorful springs cat toy” I bought for her from Dollarama
Oh is that one of these?
https://smile.amazon.com/6-Pack-Ethical-Colorful-Springs-Toys/dp/B00GQ13D9W
We had one of those, but it seems to have been lost in the ether. Maybe I should buy more.
He was a dude. I'm trying to work out what he is eating in this pic.
After the EQs here, he went to live with my in laws, who adored him. They used to buy him his own piece of steak, he got an extra piece of KFC just for him, and they had to order 2 ice cream boats from Mr Whippy (one for FIL, one for Baz).
He needs a hair matt brush! It’s like a comb with a protected cutting edge to easily brush out the matted fur. My boy came home from the shelted w some butt matts that would prohibit him from staying clean—but with regular use he has no issues now! And much more dignified than the “sanitary clip” that the vet would offer.
I have this one and like it a lot: hair matt brush
Lol a free spirit. The only thing else I can think is maybe try a different litter? My cats like this one: https://www.chewy.com/tidy-cats-glade-tough-scented/dp/51864?utm_source=google-product&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=hg&utm_content=Tidy%20Cats&utm_term=&gclid=Cj0KCQiAys2MBhDOARIsAFf1D1fpKMREtwnYwbvkNnoE2i-gO2g93pieN2ca3_G1pwV7X...
I have a soil box with grass growing in it that they like to pee in as well...
He’s newer too and he seems to like the latest purchase as it seems to keep him steadily interested. Here’s the link YVE LIFE Cat Laser Toy... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RVPN6SC?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
it’s like this one!
My girl LOVED this brush: WAHL Premium Large Pet Slicker Brush.
She was re-homed to me at 12 years old and passed away at almost 16 years old, but in that time she never matted and I never cut/trimmed her fur. She was a beautiful girl with awesome pantaloons and a wickedly fluffy tail. I have a few photos and videos in my profile.
You should get her a corner scratcher, my cat loves hers. It’s like a little brush that just sticks to the corner of your walls.

I got them from Amazon. The ones I got aren’t available, but here’s a really similar set: silicone scrubbing gloves
And here’s the Zoom Groom for cats (it’s cute, but I don’t remember it being this expensive).
Along with our nebelung, we have 6 other cats, 2 dogs, and a rabbit. The main thing we use are roomba’s (one on each floor). For clothes and furniture, we use this nifty tool thing: https://www.amazon.com/Nado-Remover-Furniture-Carpets-Clothing/dp/B0748DGDVT. We don’t have this exact brand, but the concept is the same. It works really well
While I was building my current one, I got an outdoor cat cage from Amazon (this one) and my guys were okay with that. It at least gives them the option to get fresh air without being too expensive or permanent!
I can share the brand for you, its my girlfriends dogs old crate that we are keeping at my place for when they come over. This is the one it is I think. The 36 inch. https://www.amazon.com/Petnation-Port-Crate-Indoor-Outdoor/dp/B0018MM8RC
We bought this brush for our neb and she loves it. She'll come over and chirp at me around the same time every night because that's our brushing time.
Thank you! 😻
I do not groom/trim him as I believe he'll be ok with his natural coat (unless the vet recommends otherwise due to serious complications). I only brush him using a comb type of brush. When I first adopted him, he had a big ball of matted fur where his mane is and also around his thighs/butt. I had to cut out the one near his collar because it was ridiculous!! I understand your struggle with that!! However, ever since he's been with me, constant brushing (and I recommend the comb over other types of brushes- also recommended by my vet) has helped tremendously. I never saw matted fur on his collar area ever since and it made me wonder how the previous owners treated this pretty baby. I've only slightly trimmed matted areas when they happen but have never trimmed my cat overall or frequently to prevent matted fur. This boy also sheds a lot and it is what it is with long haired cats like Nebelungs...😅. I don't know if I really helped over here, but that's all I do!
Here's the comb that I use: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DWVFDRZ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_9iBIFb8XYRNCW
I used Fab Fur Kitty detangling spray for a bad mat in my kitties pantaloons. I let it sit for a couple of min and used a 2 sided dematting rake. It came out easier than I thought it would.

Hey, it's this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H57NBGP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_F3JvFbR0NH20T . I'm not sure if it's going to last long because the pump is tiny. I've also read here that a water fountain is better than sitting water, but I was hesitant to get one because kitty is a big time splasher and I didn't want him to have this much water to splash. But it's day 2 and he hasn't, so I guess we're good?
Yes and yes. Simon is always hungry looking 😂. He used to meow annoyingly very early in the morning and beg for food. I bought this automatic feeder https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MXDFB28/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_zX5uFbFFEN73Q which holds 3 meals. So he gets fed early in the morning, around lunch, and at dinner I give him wet food. This way he only expects food from me at dinner time. For the skin issues part, for the past 3 summers he's gotten something like skin bumps, I could feel them more on his back and under the chin. I took him to the vet the first 2 summers and he got a Convenia shot (I think it's a hormone) and that solved the issue. They said it might be weather related, a bug bite or who knows what. This summer the bumps were not that bad and I waited a bit and they disappeared (I also got him a lion haircut this summer, might have helped?)
Not OP, but I was curious for myself and found it on Amazon! https://www.amazon.com/Vintage-Nebelung-Shirt-Owner-T-shirt/dp/B07JH3QQX2
ETA: OP, thanks for sharing this! Big fan of the shirt (and the cat!).
I use a brush like this for my boy: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M7Z063X/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_gpe-Ab8NQFX6P. I brush him every night and give him Greenies hairball control treats. He loves the routine and purrs away while I brush him. He's had zero hairballs since I started doing this over a year ago!
I also have a Furminator, but he doesn't like when I use it on him - I try very gently to brush him with it, but he won't have it. He is a bit quirky, though and only likes the brush I linked above..haha...I use it on my dog instead and it really is amazing how much hair it removes!
I think you should try DE Food Grade. I've heard wonders. Lock the cat in a room for a day give him the capstar and a topical treatment then spread it all through the house. Cut up a flea collar and put it in your vaccum and start vacuuming up the carpet after a couple hours. Repeat once a week (excluding topical treatment you should only have to put one on him. ) if you're letting her outside you should lay down DE through the yard. Make sure to buy food grade though. Its not harmful to people or animals but the dust can be.
