As my friend from Austin explained it on a forum a few years ago, comics stores were actually starting to turn profits again after the bust in the early 90's - reprints/special/collector's editions getting insane, everyone trying to hoard issues that would never accrue value like golden/silver age comics. Because comics movies were crossing over to success, there was a rise in comics sales in the late 90's/early 00's. A few people in the industry (couldn't tell you who offhand) suggested a free comics day to get irregular/new comics readers into stores. The idea went viral and store owners took to the idea, publishers followed suit - offering free issues.
Here's a compilation someone did of this year's best of when you get to a PC, and a common sense guide (get there early if you want a decent selection of free comics, don't get greedy, etc.).
As I understand it, Book Review is offering 20% off various items throughout the store. If we're lucky, that'll include the stuff we like (for me trades, used books). They had some really good deals today from 10a-noon (30% off trades, some action figures 35% off, some used books 30% off, games 20% off) but I had to work... grumble grumble...
Light compared to Portland. Mayo, IBM, Benchmark, HGST are players in town. Check this link for what's open right now
All the small towns surrounding Rochester are also lovely and much cheaper! (As per above post)
And a garage isn’t essential. Snow & ice are annoying, but there are plenty of ways to remove them. Here’s a windshield cover that I use:
[Newest] Windshield Snow Cover, Extra Large & 600D Thicker Fits Any Car Truck SUV Van, Straps & Magnets Double Fixed Windproof Design, Waterproof Outdoor Car Snow Covers with Side Mirror Covers https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09KH8KTMX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_W7QPWEY5KC1H7ZS98W3M?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
And remember that you’ll likely be parked at work or other places during rain/snow, so something like this is always helpful.
This being said-don’t forget you’ll need a couple good shovels and a snowblower will be the best investment you can make-they’re fun too!
And finally: winter won’t last forever :)
Ope-don’t forget to watch some midwestern comedians like Charlie Berens to get a funny but painfully real idea of our winters and strange mannerisms ;)
It looks like the website is down at the moment but in the past they have had an online registration form
Curling on Friday! It's free but you have to preregister for a spot in a lesson. Guaranteed to meet at least 7 other humans!
It's not about "reliability" but about constructing a bulletproof story to tell support.
You should of course test your speed with things that represent what you use your internet for, but this construction should be a bullet proof argument even if it doesn't represent "realworld" speeds.
The Fast.com connection is to a server hosted in Metronet's data center in Lafayette,
Indiana. This would imply a problem between Rochester and Lafayette before egress to the wider Internet.
You should really just run your own router. Depending on your ISP for all your networking is not what I would recommend personally, as an ex-Charter worker and former network engineer.
Depending on what you're willing to spend, you can get a refurb Asus RT-AC1900 from Amazon for $88+$10 for a 3-year warranty through Amazon, beating the original $180 pricetag by a large margin with the same 3-year warranty through Asus.
I don't know of any specific kayaking groups, but you should stop by Tyrol SKi and Sports and ask for Robb. He knows everything about paddling around here and runs boat demos at Chester Woods (which I think is the best place to go paddling anyway). I also bought this book, which is a great reference: http://www.amazon.com/Canoeing-The-Driftless-Southeastern-Minnesota/dp/1414042043
I'm also a newbie to to DnD though I've always loved the genre.
I have a crazy amount of dice for anyone looking to get into the game with me.
I bought this back in 2013 and still haven't managed to find a game.
I also have crazy ideas for personal character arcs that could fit in with other character arcs. Plz get at me I'm so alone.
