I thought this sub was getting silent... Good thing for starting this thread!
Skin type combo/dry, acne prone
Concern adapting to tretinoin and taking it slowly, main concerns are sensitivity and dryness (mostly the latter).
I’ve been eyeing these 2 for my ‘toner’ step: - Etude House SoonJung emulsion - Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Ampoule
Arnica gels, balms or oils are great for bruises. Just make sure you get a product that actually contains arnica and not one of the quacky homeopathic products.
I've been recommended CoQ10 as a migraine treatment. It is apparently one of the few supplements with a proven track record to reduce migraines. Link to study
It would be very cool if it gives me smooth skin. I don't really have wrinkles yet, so it would be neat if they just don't show up now, and I have 50% fewer migraines to boot!
Edit: I was already eyeing this earlier today after another migraine bout, and this thread tipped me over to purchasing it lol. I am trying this brand.
You could try Melazepam for Azelaic Acid. I've never used TO's version, so I can't compare the two, but this works great for me. Garden of Wisdom also sells an 8-10% AzA, but I didn't find it as effective. Paula's Choice also just released a 10% AzA for the American market. I've heard good things about the version sold in Europe.
I got a decent scalp scrubber that’s made a big difference in removing buildup before it can get itchy. I also use a shampoo with tea tree oil.

they actually got u! they’ve made unscented versions of the comfy water and the one i use (the centella chemical one). just search unscented w the name. sorry totally forgot to mention it. i totally feel u one EOs i avoid them at all cost bc they break me out/burn my skin
edit: an amazon us link
I really, really loved this rosewater mist spray: https://www.amazon.com/Teddie-Organics-Water-Facial-Toner/dp/B00PGAXJ7U?th=1. The inflated positive ratings are a little fishy, but I think this Amazon company is a pretty good one regardless. Anyways, the rosewater really calms down my skin post-shower, before I apply toner and then my gazillion other moisturizing steps. I don't spray it in between steps, only immediately after my shower or my morning face wash.
I bought this hat off Amazon a little over a year ago and it's been the best $19 I ever spent. I like that I can fold it up and put it in my bag when I'm indoors, there's a wire in the brim that makes it really easy to reshape again. Lightweight, washes well, and it's UPF50+
I use this Cerave cream. My skin is oily, but because I use Tazorac and azelaic acid, it is this weird bastardized version of oily/dry. If I don't moisturize at night my skin would probably crack and fall off, and would also be oily the whole time. This cream is the only thing I've ever tried that doesn't have me waking up in the morning with flakes on my face. It also rubs in to a satin finish. Unfortunately it caused some breakouts and my skin doesn't care for Cerave much. But, wonderful stuff! I also have tried the Illiyoon, had flakes every morning.
Nah it doesn't have alcohol in it thank goodness. I get mine on amazon:
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MRBST6H/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Takes about 1 month to ship (lol) but I repurchase when my current bottle has 1/4 product remaining, I always have a backup.
Hi! I have anxiety that can cause sensory issues and I completely understand where you are coming from. My best recommendation would be the Etude House Sunprise Mild Airy Finish. After about a minute you absolutely CANNOT tell it's on your skin. If you have any dry patches and you're using it multiple times a day, I'd recommend bringing a little bit of your favorite moisturizer and layering that with the sunscreen as it can start to dry out your skin unless you have very oily skin. It's an Asian sunscreen like everyone else is recommending! It's also fairly affordable (much more than a brand like supergoop) which is definitely a plus.
I am sorry the dermatologist didn't offer you those options. An aesthetician wouldn't really be able to do those for you, unless you see a medical aesthetician in a dermatologist's office. Most aestheticians are a waste of money, in my opinion.
You could try a different dermatologist. If you don't want to see another dermatologist, you could buy an over the counter hydrocortisone cream, and massage that on your scar. But be careful; any steroid containing cream will absorb into your bloodstream. You want to apply a very small amount, and you don't need to massage for very long (20-30 seconds of rubbing it in gently.) Do this once a day.
The scaraway treatment gel could also be an option worth looking into. If your scar is less than 2 years old, it is more likely to be effective. If it is older, it is less likely to help. But it is an affordable option that could be worth a try.
But know that neither of these are as effective as getting one of the treatments in a dermatologist office I mentioned above.
Bioderma's Cicabio Creme has done absolute wonders for me when I upped my tret dosage to 0.1% and was peeling, hurting and irritated like crazy! It's like 15 USD on Amazon for a 40 ml tube, which is the same size as the GBR I believe.
It’s in the known side effects in the pamphlet they give you at the pharmacy. I guess they also recommend you not take spiro if you have a history of colitis. I didn’t, but I learned years later a family member did, so maybe I have the gene for it or something.
Mayo Clinic list of side effects
Personally, I became sensitive to a lot of foods over the years while I was taking it and I was having a lot of gerd/heartburn/IBS type symptoms. Within a few weeks of discontinuing, I was able to eat many of those foods again. I still avoid dairy because it triggers the hormonal zits on my chin.
Try this one, it is quite fantastic, if you're not too worried about some cast. https://www.amazon.com/Protector-Sunscreen-Spectrum-Water-Resistant-Protection/dp/B088MJ4GLL?ref_=ast_sto_dp
Its Skin Tiger serum. I LOVE this stuff so much!! Very soothing, sinks right in, moisturizing, and easy to use with other skincare and under makeup.
I'm personally not extremely dry-skinned but my mother is and she loves the Bioderma Atoderm PP Baume. It lasts forever, too. She also uses argan oil on her face at night if it's super dry.
Edit: oh I just realised there's a smaller tube in case you want to give it a try. Whoops
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IFH0AIG/ is the one I used, and you mix it with hot water to dissolve it. it's not as easy as sugar/salt to dissolve, and you'd need a preservative if you wanted to make it and store it. There's r/diybeauty if you want to get more info, and google has a number of recipes. Make sure you spell it correctly.
I wouldn’t change your main routine if it’s working, but there’s this mask you can find on Amazon that’s a dupe for a WAY more expensive one. you could try it a week or two before the wedding to make sure it doesn’t irritate you, then if it works you could do it the day before for some extra pampering+skin prep.
You're welcome! That post is amazing and it put my mind to rest about ceramides :)
It might be more watery as all the cholesterol and ceramides are not in it any more.
Ooh I just found this too:
It's not the same but there's a quite a few crossover ingredients with the Superdrug one.
I got this one, it had good reviews and actually looks better than I thought it would lol (I’m in the US).
Dr. Sturm's rich face cream.
It's ridiculously expensive at about $200 for a jar and it doesn't even seem like anything special at first (I got a decent-size sample tube), just your average decent rich moisturizer. However, I started noticing that my skin was no longer dry like ever, nor was it getting oily during the day. I have one of those skin hydration and sebum measuring sticks, and when I check in the morning after applying it at night, nothing compares to the hydration levels or the low levels of sebum. I've tried other expensive creams (e.g. Decree Peptide Emolient Veil, Augustinus Bader, Medik8) and cheap creams (e.g. Glow Recipe, Avene) and there's just no comparison. The Lumene Vitamin C Sleeping Mask (at a tenth of the price) is the second-best in terms of raw numbers (of hydration and sebum balance after a full night's sleep) but it's scented and doesn't work as a daytime moisturizer.
i use aveeno and when I get to the end, I use these spatulas to get the rest.
Rude Cosmetics | Pineapple Face Bubble Peeling Gel | Korean Beauty, Peel off Face Mask, Blackhead Remover Mask, Exfoliating Facial Cleanser | 50 mL https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CNFFQSQ/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_2Q8HY4YQDH386AE4GV90
Here’s the link to the product I am not allergic to any of them I don’t think if I was my skin would get itchy right ? My mom gave this to me as a Christmas present and was in bargain bin so I was scared to use it.
Yea sorry I’ve tried posting the photo and picture with my question of are these ingredients okay ? But always got taken down because other skin care reddits are so strict I’ll give u the link to the Amazon . I am only asking bc my mom bought me this from Walmart bargain bin and have been weary lol

If your skin can’t tolerate mineral oil I wanted to warn you, the Aveeno Baby Eczema Therapy Soothing Bath Treatment (https://www.amazon.com/Aveeno-Baby-Soothing-Treatment-Irritations/dp/B005IHECS6/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?crid=3TN1XT7BNHBSP&keywords=aveeno+baby+bath+treatment&qid=1645896468&sprefix=aveeno+baby+bath+treatment+%2Caps%2C109&sr=8-4) looks similar to the regular Aveeno Bath Treatment Powder, but is only 43% colloidal oatmeal and has mineral oil in it. (I don’t know how they make mineral oil and addition in a powder; I’m guessing some type of chemical witchcraft.)
Hmmm, good question, especially with the caveat that it has to be thicker than CeraVe in the tub. I'm not sure I can offer skincare innovations, but if you're more interested in a product than the next new thing, I might suggest the Nivea cream (it's thick and pasty as heck and doesn't work well with wet skin) or Glaxall Base cream. I got the latter prescibed in Canada by a doctor for eczema and I don't think it's widely available in the US but it's very gentle, no nonsense thick cream, more greasy than CeraVe in the tub.
I haven't tried the Vanicream in the tub yet but I imagine it's another option. I love the Bioderma Atoderm cream but it's definitely more like gel-cream than a cream. Their atoderm balm (or PP balm) might be more up your alley.
Are you trying mostly american sunscreens? I notice those ones make my skin hot. I don't know why, even if it's by shiseido but made for USA market, my skin tingles. What ever filter they are limited to just doesn't work for me. I use asian and european sunscreens, I am from UK and just stock up when home or order online.
Everyone seems to really like the canmake mermaid spf, it's debatable weather it's the best protection but maybe try if it suits your skin and start from there?
For those curious, it looks like tocopherol (vitamin E) caused an allergic reaction for some people.
Research predicts 1-5% of the general population are sensitised to fragrance ingredients.. Nickel is one of the most common triggers for allergic reaction and that is 8-15%. I’d be interested to see the research too.
Have you tried using the tap water to wash your face, then just doing a final rinse with the distilled to remove the hard water? I worked in a lab for a bit and we basically did that with lab dishes. A spray bottle might work well for that if you’re just misting and then drying off. Or just pour some water in your hand and splash it on your face, though that might waste a lot.
My other suggestion would be super soft washcloths. I use bamboo washcloths for babies and they can be pretty soft depending on the brand. I also recently got fluffy microfiber ones that are super soft. They are like these. I don’t know if those are the exact ones, but if you just look for ones that are fluffy instead of loops they are all pretty similar.
Agree. I love love love Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence SPF50+/PA++++
https://www.amazon.com/Biore-Watery-Essence-SPF50-1-75oz/dp/B073TL73T8/ (there might be better deals on Amazon, I just picked a link)
You won't find it in stores, other than maybe Asian markets. (It's not FDA approved, it's better.)
Don't know if anyone said this but, the BHA Skin Perfecter is a GOD SEND! I have fairly normal skin but I find that it evens my skin tone and gives me a slight glow every time I use it. It's also great for those with acne prone skin and large pores. Best part is that it's leave on so you can just slap it on with a cotton ball at night (or during very low-light days). I recommend getting the travel size I linked to start, as a little goes a long way.
I have two products I love for my very sensitive rosacea skin.
Etude House Soon Jung Toner. I was always sort of doubtful about toner but this stuff just makes all my other products work better. I layer on about 2-3 coats (it’s thin and watery), then apply moisturizer. Sometimes I skip moisturizer and just use it under sunscreen or primer before makeup.
My go to moisturizer is Illyoon Ceramide Ato Cream. It’s fragrance free and the only moisturizer that didn’t sting. It sinks in nicely, which is what I really love about it. I don’t like the texture of the Cicaplast either-it’s like glue on my skin and leaves me really shiny.
I’ve tried other moisturizers and just keep going back to the Illyoon. I buy it from Amazon. It does have this weird grainy texture when you first apply it (that’s part of its ceramide delivery technology).
ILLIYOON Ceramide Ato Cream Set(6.8OZ) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WZLJYP8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_A8MEDECBJH5DB42FWY52
For me a second place barrier cream that I suggest to people as a less expensive and less shiny alternative to Cicaplast is CeraVe Baby Moisturizing Cream. It’s fragrance free and has only a few ingredients (but has ceramides). It doesn’t do so well under makeup (it pills), but it works really well on cuts and scrapes (I had a cut on my nose and I kept this on it at night and it was really effective).
These are the ones I have that I really like. They're super soft and I use the bag they came with to wash them with my laundry
I also bought these first but they're way too big and tend to soak up too much product. Since they're only one sided that ends up being really wasteful.
I bought these in March and I generally like them, but I'm still getting used to the switch. I'm really trying to stay away from the cotton rounds (I still use them occasionally), as I was going through so many.
I have not used the nip + fab pads for reference, but these do feel thinner than a regular cotton round. They have a little texture to them on one side, but they are still fairly soft. I don't feel like they overly absorb toner or micellar water. It feels like it applies to my face in nearly the same way as a cotton round, although I do notice the extra bit of texture. The increase in diameter gets a bit more use out of them.
It comes with a holder and a mesh bag, although I haven't washed them in the laundry, just by hand. They clean up pretty well, I think! We'll see how that is a few months down the line, but I'm glad I bought some.
I bought these from Amazon, over a year ago. They have held up really well and I wash them regularly. I find them almost too thin but have not used the pads you mentioned so cannot compare! For reference I find them thinner than an actual cotton pad but thicker than e.g. the t-shirt material some people use.

Photoderm Max SPF 50+ Invisible Texture Spray 400ml for around 30$ It's a little shinier than I prefer for an everyday sunscreen and (while mild) it smells a little more than the completely scentless I prefer (not perfumed just product scent). But it's the best sunscreen I've found for the best price, but I use it as my heavy sun sunscreen not my daily.
Now I actually use skin aqua super moisture milk which is 40ml for around 13$ because I'll pay the extra for the daily sunscreen I love more.
let me tell you something. ditch those DIY scrubs and get this exfoliating towel. you'll be in smooth city

I loved this, until I tried the Hada Labdo skin plumping gel cream. Somehow it has lasted TWICE as long as the Neutrogena Hydroboost. (So if you ever look for an alternative I would recommend it.) Hada Labo @ Amazon
I use these from amazon! One of them I've had for 5 years now and it's held up well
You get pustules from shaving? Am I reading that correctly?
If you have bad hormonal breakouts, I’d give DIM supplements a try. Honestly DIM supplements and pantothenic acid supplements have been a god send for me. (I had two periods a month from a stupid fibroid and the DIM has made my second period vanish)
I do shave my face. Or dermaplane. I use the folding twinkle razors. I do have about four face hairs that I do pluck out. I will use Vanicream cleanser as a “shave cream”. But I’ve never had ingrown hairs or razor burn from shaving. The only place I do get razor bumps is in my bikini area. There’s a bunch of products on amazon that help your problem. Just search “razor bumps”

Good luck!
Tret 025. Just powering through. Buffered every other night with Hada Lobo Premium. I moisturise with LRP Lipikair AP+ maybe three times a day and use TO niacimanide in the morning to help with redness. Sunscreen with aloe, too. I like to use the Goodbye Redness sheetmask from Benton when my skin feels really irritated. Really, I just try to calm the irritation (for me that's just redness) with proven anti-inflammatory and anti-redness ingredients, and I avoid fragrances, alcohol, essential oils, other exfoliants, and anything that could promote more irritation.
I think I'm over the worst of it (just started 5 weeks ago) but IMO the initial irritation is a small price to pay in exchange for the long term benefits. Already I can see some amazing changes in my skin.
I'm thinking about trying azelaic acid with time. Just trying to stick to the basics now and not overwhelm my skin.
this is brilliant! do you think your recipe would be okay if the glycerin were mixed with rose water instead of just plain water? (this is the product i'm referring to btw: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00YMMENPK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 )
I'm pregnant and have had a lot of trouble keeping up with routines because there's just so much "self care" I have to do every day. Thank god i've been able to get away with just a single blended serum I use, and nothing else. (I mean literally nothing else, since I don't even leave the house, so I don't wear sunscreen much anymore). It has both vitamin c and moisturizers, including humectant and aloe. It's been nice. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00S2G786S/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
My least favorite product so far of 2020 is all the Cerave sunscreens. They changed all the formulas and ruined them.
Hello everybody!
So, I recently bought a sunscreen from Hawaiian Tropic. It’s the Silk Hydration with 50+ SPF.
More information is here:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hawaiian-Tropic-SPF50-Hydration-Lotion/dp/B0071IWVZQ
My question is, it didn’t seem particularly marketed to be used in the face, and I’m concerned if it would ok to use it this way.
I’m mostly worried about breakouts and I have tried finding about if it would be ok or not to use it or simply find another one. :/
Most information I find seem to conclude that as there is a difference between sunscreens targeted for body and for face; it really comes down to face sunscreen being less comedogenic, less oily, work better with make up and such.
But, has anyone used this particular one? And have you had any luck with them not causing breakouts?
I really like Neutrogena MoistureShine — it lasts a while. I also like to use LRP Cica Baume on my lips if they are chapped—it’s very soothing.
Neutrogena MoistureShine Lip Soother Gloss with SPF 20 Sun Protection, High Gloss Tinted Lip Moisturizer with Hydrating Glycerin and Soothing Cucumber for Dry Lips, Glaze 60,.35 oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001191VPM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_0.qwFb4S54JE1
Piggybacking here: the Australian Gold Botanical SPF 50 is very inexpensive and also has that primer feel: Australian Gold Botanical Sunscreen Tinted Face Mineral Lotion SPF 50 | 3 Ounce | Broad Spectrum | Water Resistant | Same Formula as Fair/Light: B07YZQTKDJ https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M8G39OW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_thKiFb9MTA3T1
Urea lotions and creams 100%. I tried Amlactin, Stridex Pads, etc but none of them kept my KP at bay. This is my current favorite:
Udderly Smooth Extra Care Cream with 20% Urea, 8 oz, Unscented https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00D86VL1U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_6AZgFbF2RHB31
I use a tool called the exfolimate from Amazon. I use it a couple times a week in the shower and it has been the best for my KP. There is one side that works better than the other.
https://www.amazon.com/exfolimate-Face-Body-Exfoliation-Exfolimate/dp/B00SVDLGHY
Definitely Clinique TTDO for a cleansing balm - not too thick or too thin, easily and quickly breaks down makeup, and washes off clean while still leaving your skin hydrated. It has a simple list of ingredients (definitely no added fragrance or even a natural fragrance) and you could rub your eyes with it all day long and not experience irritation.
I’d recommend Simple Skincare’s refreshing facial wash gel (the green one which you can find on Amazon as a second cleanse. It’s very similar to Krave Beauty’s matcha hemp hydrating cleanser in texture and consistency (if you’ve heard of it) but much better and with a deeper cleanse in my opinion. Again it has a short, simple list of non irritating ingredients (can’t detect a natural fragrance when using it) that includes panthenol which is very hydrating. It’s a clear gel that washes off clean and just feels really nice on the skin when rubbing it on. And the cherry on top is that it’s less than 7 dollars!
This rollup straw visor gets me a lot of compliments and is my summer MVP: Simplicity Women's Wide Brim Roll-up Straw Hat Sun Visor Beige https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ZCE7AYI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_2GmeDbXRS8QNA
It isn’t as hot as a full hat and rolls up fairly easily so it fits in my bag.
I had the same problem and tried many lip balms, and none worked well. The “natural” lip balms like Burts Bees were especially bad. I live in a super dry desert climate and Aquaphor Healing Ointment is the only lip balm that’s actually made a difference. It works noticeably better than plain Vaseline(petroleum jelly).

Experience & opinion:
I have about 10 water-based cleansers, 4 of which I absolutely adore, and this one is my favourite out of them all. I just find myself continually reaching for it. It lathers into a velvety dense foam (not a large and fluffy foam), and it feels heavenly to apply. It smells like a woodland forest, or a Christmas tree, and it just cleanses the skin so well. It is pH balanced and is just an all around pleasure to use. 5/5 highly recommend, will repurchase
I don't use the tinted version. But I'd say the Family SPF30 has a minimal one when wet, next to nothing dry and the Extreme SPF50 has a visible whitecast when wet and a minimal one when dry. Both are slightly shiny but not tacky.
Haven't had any trouble with pilling, but my routine is largely water/humectant based; oils, silicones and fatty alcohols generally don't agree with me. So I'm probably not the best judge of layering issues.
Amazon UK has a plethora of user reviews if you're looking for more!
Do it! SOOOOO much was in the corners on the bottom. I use one of those squeezey things, kinda like this but not exactly even then there was over 14.5mL left
