another great thing in the new canon are the comic books! probably my favorite and the easiest to get into is the main star wars book just called star wars which picks up right after a new hope and fills the gap between episode 4 and 5 it runs concurrently with the new darth vader book which is also pretty good

Seems like a futuristic 1984, which isn't really what I'm looking for. Thanks though, might still read it at some point, especially given that Dr. Oliver Sacks voted it 4 stars on goodreads.
What about some Doctor Who books? Doctor Who always piqued my curiosity for the ways of the universe. And, a bit of non fiction sorta thing Michio Kaku books are great! I read them when I was only a little older than her. Star Trek also is usually pretty tame as far as sex scenes. At least as far as I know.
This isn’t Sci-fi but Fablehaven by Brandon Mull is a WONDERFUL series. Grew up to that book. I can still quote it with the audiobook.
The BOLO books are an older series of books that might be similar to what you're after, though it goes in a slightly different direction.
Rather than huge mechas with people in them, they're about sentient super heavy tanks. Kind of reminds me of some Asimov books that way too.
Terra Omega: Verse 4 - A Knight's Reign is based 'around' Antarctica.
"The Knight of CUSMA is proud of his region and the peace that reigned throughout Earth for almost seven years. Nothing can go wrong, or can it?
An attack that occurs in sector 12 sends Knight to investigate. Where he discovers documents from a person he believes is deceased.
Destiny brings Knight to AJ, who convinces him that the Earth is much greater than they've ever been told. That mysterious land is on the other side of the planet, hidden behind a border of ice that equators Earth. The true Antarctic circle.
As Knight continues to follow a trail of breadcrumbs set out for him, he discovers that the truth is always intertwined with lies and that he must take matters into his own hands, even with the odds stacked against him.
Can he protect those he loves and those that trust him? Or is he likely to fail in the end?"
I’m not entirely sure if I’m allowed to suggest my own work, so I suppose I’ll ask the mods to remove this if I’m not.
I wrote a series with CJ Valin called Raptors. We are both fans of Soon I will Be Invincible and we are massive comic book fans. We wrote the series as a love letter, writing what we wish Marvel and DC would give us for novels.
The series is also free on Audible for members. Here’s the amazon link if it sounds interesting to you https://www.amazon.com/Sidekick-Superhero-Adventure-Book-Raptors-ebook/dp/B08T6BS3SB
The art books that go with the Ghibli films are amazing. https://www.amazon.com/Art-Spirited-Away-Hayao-Miyazaki/dp/1569317771/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=spirited+away+art+book&qid=1607171663&sr=8-1
The Tenth Planet by Dean Smith, 1st of a trilogy. I read this 16 years ago, but still immediately knew what book it was, I amaze myself.
Anthologies I think, are also still a thing? I illustrated and did cover art for one recently, and am planning to do so again for their next edition. Actually, if this is something that interests you, they are looking for readers to go through all the submissions, and see which stories are worth their salt.
Here is the book I worked on: Triangulation: Extinction
This years theme was species extinction, next year is sustainable housing
Does the title not link you to the Amazon page, with all the options? Hmmm. It does for me. But hey, sometimes stuff breaks. If you click this link, you should see an option to buy the book:
True not really a space opera just all I could think of. The Bobiverse series might be more in line but it’s pretty lighthearted too but as long as you’re cool with that I’d give it a shot. We Are Legion (We Are Bob) (Bobiverse) (Volume 1) https://www.amazon.com/dp/1680680587/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_jOFpFbTGWM2BX

Charlie Stross's Laundry series. Sci-Fi -> Lovecraftian Fantasy in an action/spy thriller framework.
Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan saga.
Since you like Isaac, you might like my novel, K3+, inspired on his teachings. Climate change and economic inequality coalesce into a dystopia, triggering a massive exodus to rotating habitats. A century later those in space live in a post-scarcity civilization while those left on Earth are still struggling. As nations begin to collapse due to under population, the ultimate conflict is inevitable. You can find K3+ on Amazon and iTunes.
Really? If you want to check out more info you can look at the amazon link I have for Volume 1 Zepharius
This entire series is based on different ship crews competing to find the next big ancient relic, and it’s hilarious:
The Reluctant Adventures of Fletcher Connolly on the Interstellar Railroad
Like the first book in the series, Another Guest is feel-good science fiction. Though it involves a touch of FTL travel, it remains on the harder side of sci-fi. You are going to want to read it if you are a fan of the following:
Some highlights:
The audiobook is brought to life by Jeanie Talbot, who takes everything in this book to the next level. Everything funny is funnier. Everything emotional is right in the feels. Feel the panics, feel the rushes, feel the mood on every page through her exceptional effort to be pitch perfect on every word.
We've only got one review so far, but check out the amazing reviews for "Guest" , and be reassured this is going to be a homerun. And hey, how about you support some little folks and drop a nice review when you are done with at least the first chapter? I mean, don't just drop five stars before you are completely convinced this was the best audiobook decision you've made all month.
A Fire Upon the Deep by Vernor Vinge.
Any of the following by Larry Niven: World of Ptaavs, Neutron Star, Protector. (I'm not recommending the Ringworld Trilogy because I consider that more of a commitment from a SF reader who is not a new initiate.)
Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle — either of these two novels specifically: Lucifer's Hammer or The Mote in God's Eye. (In my humble opinion all their other collaborative works are inferior to these two.)
Larry Niven's novel The Integral Trees and its sequel, The Smoke Ring. Both are excellent.
All that said, the original Foundation trilogy by Isaac Asimov and Dune by Frank Herbert are absolute must-reads. So is The Science Fiction Hall of Fame, Vol. I, Theodore Sturgeon's More Than Human, A. E. Van Vogt's The Weapon Shops of Isher, and Isaac Asimov's The Gods Themselves. Pebble in the Sky and The Stars, Like Dust by Asimov are also compelling reads.
Then there's Robert A. Heinlein: The Door into Summer; The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress; Revolt in 2100; The Past Through Tomorrow and its sequel, Time Enough for Love; all excellent reading.
Maybe try the Slabscape series by S.Spencer Baker - http://www.amazon.com/Slabscape-Reset-S-Spencer-Baker/dp/0956738702/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1437480210&sr=8-1&keywords=slabscape There are two novels so far in the series. Reading the reviews on Amazon - others have compared it to Adams, but I didn't get that so much.
