It's worth noting we have every intention on focusing on marketing in the months ahead, but until we have a production release ready this would be a poor allocation of capital.
Status is currently in alpha, and once provide a strong base user-experience we will then put a much greater focus on marketing. Attempting paid user acquisition right now would inevitably result in low retention rates and a cost per active user above industry standard, given there are a number of known bugs we're working to stomp out, and a number of features yet to be implemented.
Right now, we have ~20,000 Users on Android, and 10,000 iOS users and we're only at an Alpha stage (with a total of just under 50,000 people on the mailing list to try the beta). This is predominantly organic, and we haven't utilised any display inventory. The limit on iOS is set by Apple's TestFlight program, and on Android it's self-imposed as we have sufficient user-feedback based on this user pool, and will continue to increase it with each rolling release towards an open beta.
With that said, we understand our communications strategy needs some work - and we will be spending September building out our marketing team (you can see our open positions here https://status.im/open-positions.html), but paid user acquisition on a meaningful scale won't be happening until after security audits and a main-net release. Open to ideas on what you'd like to see more of, and specific parts you feel need improving :)
SNT intended use according to contribute.status.im:
1. Governance over the Status Client.
2. Username registration over ENS.
3. Community curation and content discovery.
4. A Decentralized Push Notification Market.
5. The Status Teller Network.
6. The Status Sticker Market.
7. The Status DApp Directory.
8. Access to features such as Tribute to Talk.
9. The Status Acquisition Engine (Research).
Theres more detailed explanation in the whitepaper
They have a dynamic ceiling in place to try and prevent a repetetion of the BAT ICO. You can read more about on page 28 in the white paper https://status.im/whitepaper.pdf
Also a blog post is being written soon and going up on blog.status.im that will specify how to contribute and with more details concerning the dynamic ceiling
That's correct. They will go to the wallet you sent the ether from. Which means you should never send it directly from an exchange. Now, while participating in the ICO using MEW is simple enough, as per the guide from isaac, the problem is being quick enough to contribute before the ceilings are reached. After researching a bit I have come to the conclusion that the best way is to use parity and set up an automatic transaction at the exact block the ICO starts at. This is a good guide I found: https://www.cryptocompare.com/wallets/guides/how-to-use-the-parity-ethereum-wallet/
Best of luck!
If you have an android device you are alrady able to download Status through the official Play-Store of google: Status — Ethereum. Anywhere.
For iOS its as far as I know not that easy to get permission to have the app listed in the appstore cause of the verification and acceptance of new apps from apple.
Maybe we see some changes when the beta releases and the latest date when Status should be downloadable from the most popular app-stores should be the full release.
Dude, this is not faith, it's math.
Total Supply: 6,804,870,174.8781 SNT ($342,702,788.83)
Traded Volume on Bittrex (24h) $3,135,810
$3,135,810 ---> THIS IS THE JOKE

>status team is on the money and dedicated unlike the ones on the right in the picture!
I own, ETH, XRP, OMG, SNT. And I'm a big believer in SNT.
But.. I hate how misleading / wrong / fool hardy the submitter is. Unless he/she has seen each "teams" roadmaps, thoughts, plans, what they are working on, and what's soon to be released.
Also I am guessing, you probably have an idea on which of these "teams" are about to have country wide adoption of its software?

Can you formalize your question in terms of actual security requirements? Encryption should be quite irrelevant for large groups, because at the end of the day you aren't going to use public key encryption for 200+ people each time someone sends a message. No app actually does that. In terms of latency, there's not much latency at all, as long as people are willing to run their own mailservers.
What Status gives is dark anonymity, and uncensorability. Status mailservers are distributed, and they send blast network connections to each node. Telegram has encryption, but they own the servers and can do whatever they want. This includes doxing the entire network of users if they pleased. They can't see what the messages say, but they can see who sent what to whom, which breaks anonymity. Because users on Status host their own mailservers, Status is uncensorable. The mailservers communicate and connect with one another in a mesh, and if any, or even all are taken over, it's extremely hard to dox who sent what to whom.
If you haven't already, I encourage you to check out the whitepaper. It does a pretty thorough job of explaining the overall vision and runs through a handful of planned use-cases.
>The Status Network token is a modular utility token that fuels the Status network. This includes a Decentralized Push Notification Market, Governance of the Status client, Community Curation of content, along with social communication tools such as Tribute to Talk. We also propose a fiat-to-crypto 'Teller Network', DApp Directory, Sticker Market, and demonstrate our research on a User Acquisition Engine to grow the Network.
One use-case that's not mentioned above but is live already in the app is ENS name registrations using SNT under a Status's ENS domain. For example I own noman.stateofus.eth
and if you type that into the Status app you can find me without needing to know my Ethereum address.
Lately a lot more focus is going towards building out the sticker market. There's been a desire to deliver on more of the SNT use-cases outlined in the whitepaper.
Hi there! Currently we're still in alpha test phase so its not available publicly yet on Appstore. You would need to visit https://status.im and input your email address there. We'll send you further instructions, in your case, for ios Testflight invite.
WARNING: DO NOT FOLLOW THIS. THIS IS A SCAM. THE REAL STATUS SITE IS STATUS.IM NOT WHAT OP LINKED. THIS ACCOUNT HAS ONLY BEEN OPEN FOR 7 DAYS AND IS PRETENDING TO BE AFFILIATED WITH STATUS.
Its pretty hard to find in the first try (at least it was for me the first time I installed it over the play store) but here is a direct link you can try.
