We were in the exact same scenario, then we found the CritterNation Midwest Double on sale today :) I think it's on both Amazon and Chewy (if you wanted any more points in favor of the upgrade
https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B091NBQLBZ?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details here the link to the one I got. It should have all the info you are asking in their description
I use diatomaceous earth to keep ants away. I line the baseboards with it in the glider room. It keeps all bugs out.
There is a hazard to using this. You will need to remove the glider cage before when laying it down. Also wear a mask yourself. Breathing this stuff in can harm you when the powder gets into the air and you breath it in. Same with everything breathing. The particles are like little shards. As long as you're not making a dust cloud you and everyone else, including pets, should be fine.
Now with the ants being attracted the the BML diet. The diet has honey and apple juice in it. They are going scent the sweetness of the BML and love it everytime. my only saving grace for me has been the diatomaceous earth. As I also use BML. Wet and kibble forms.
If you don't want to use diatomaceous earth then try Vaseline on the cage legs.
I know people that breed rats in a DCN. Which is a cage that gliders can use. I love this cage as it makes cleaning easy compared to a bunch of other cages. I don't put the pan on the inside as a previous comment said, they are super messy. Some more than others, just be prepared to clean a lot. You can use other cages just it needs to have that special coating on it and be .5 inch bar spacing or less.
Also gliders are omnivores and are vicious. If one happened to get out of their cage they would kill, or try to kill, all the other animals you have. They are actually the cause of the swift parrots fall into a critically endangered species in Tasmania. They're predicted to be extinct in 15 years or so. Here's a link to an article about it.
Got it on amazon! It’s really perfect, and it fits over top of my king sized bed perfectly so I can cheel with them on my bed ❤️
So sorry for your loss, sounds like you loved each other alot. I was using those steel ball waters for a bit too, using two incase one fails but got too paranoid that it was gonna fail I ended up just getting an open bird style water bottle. It's been pretty good, the gliders get the water pretty dirty with food quickly but all the more of an excuse to change it out commonly.
I didn't mean to take away from your truely heartfelt story, just agree people should be more sceptical of those bottles. I hope with time you give them another shot and treat them with as much love as Ciri and Yennifer. <3
I use something similar to this tent.
Just make sure it's not coated with bug repellant.
Also some advice if you have cats. Store the tent away from them. My cat loves to tear through the mesh with her claws :(
A friend of mine has down foam play mats for his floor in his glider room. At his old place he even had plastic under the play mats.
He did have a small faux leather couch in there as well. His gliders made it's disgusting after a while. No cleaning would get rid of the smell and they eventually chewed holes in it. Not matter how hard he tried to get them to stop. He had a TV in there at one time too. He took it out because they made it gross. You would literally have to put the TV behind glass or something. He keeps only the cage, and glider toys in the room now.
I have too many colonies to have them roam so I have a tent. This makes for easy clean up as well since they are contained to a specific area. This also allows for them to explore a bigger area than their cage.
I got no advice taming wise but as for practical blocks maybe look into a magnet screen door? allows people to pass easy but should largly block curious suggies if it's a decent one and it fits your hall way. example
i literally have the same tent ! Adarl Indoor Portable Folding Bedroom Sleeping Mosquito Net Tent Canopy Attached Bottom with Double Zipper Door (40x75x43 inch) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06ZZ6XJ56/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_JTACHS9W3AYNJKS1QK2R this is from amazon. same exact one i got. (just mine is the largest size they offer) and it’s perfectly fine for my gliders. can climb, jump everything. room for toys in there. and you can fit in it w more than enough room. sitting in mine w my boy right as i type this lol. hope this helps ya
Well considering you only have 2ft vertically to work with having gliders would be tricky. Most cages have a height of 2 feet or more. I mainly use this critter nation cage for most my babies. Even have a few stacked on top of each other to make it a DNC. The single one by itself is 39 inches tall.
With handling them you don't need to spend a bunch of time with them. At first I would though. This would be to get them bonded to you. Once they are bonded to you all you need to do is spend an hr or so with them a day at most. (This only applies if you have 2 or more gliders. With only one glider you would need to spend way more time with him/her.) When I'm super busy all I do is my daily check ups on everyone. Some people spend more time with their gliders than I do and that's perfectly normal. Personally I wouldn't do less than what I am doing now with my babies. I just have found what works for me and them.
My walk-in closet has a window, yay! I recently moved their cage in there. But since I have free-roamers who are used to the lay of the land, they keep darting in the bedroom.
I've been considering springing for a carpenter to make a sort of cage wall with a screen door out of wire and wood....
Or I've been thinking about buying a product like this and seeing how it works and maybe rigging it to work somehow for our situation.
I got this one off of Amazon. I have it set up in the corner with a piece of their cage set over it to hold it in place but not enough to make it hot. They can’t reach the cords and they can’t pee on it with how I have it. But they can get close.
This is the one I have: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B087R77BW4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_A3WDERJR6807HXWDC6RM?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I have like three but I haven’t set them up yet fully.

https://www.amazon.com.au/Silent-Runner-30cm-Wide-Attachment/dp/B01B15GZ1U this one is ours and the boys love it - no issues after two years although we had to replace the grip tape insert cos it got gross
Bars should be no more than 1/2" apart. I personally just got two bird cages and cut the top off of one, bottom off of the other, and stacked/ziptied them into what my boyfriend calls "Noodle Castle" lol
If you're not trying to get that crazy, the Double Critter Nation cages are extremely popular. You can also add more of them to the top until you feel like it's enough!
I use baby brand soap for cleaning. I figure if it's good for human babies it's good for my gliders. Of course still extra rinse

Do you think this one will work? I don’t mind hanging it from my ceiling as long as I can drape it away when we’re done. I’m just worried about them chewing through the fabric.
This one has been recommended here a few times. I got it and feel like its a good amount of room for my 2 boys. Its safe and has horizontal bars, which makes for easier and more comfortable climbing.
It's modular so you can stack them up to 3 high easily with the add on for more space.
I've had mine for just over 2 years now and am still very happy with it.
I made them a vine out of plastic rings, fleece, and these balls pushed into the center of some of the rings - it's their favorite thing ever right now.

These clips are a favorite of my youngest (he uses them as bridges to climb all over,) and my girl who will wrap as many as she can in her tail and take them to bed with her.

A couple foraging toys are next up in the crafting process!
Here's a link to it on Amazon. It's cheap, too! :) https://www.amazon.com/Exo-Terra-Worm-Mealworm-Feeder/dp/B0002DIBT2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1516286650&sr=8-1&keywords=Reptile+worm+feeder
Huey only has one, Audre, and she's about 7 weeks now. When she was smaller, he would carry her around on his back and come with the mama Maya (my flighty super crabby skinny biter) if Audre was crabbing in my hands. But lately it seems both parents have abandoned their parental duties for the most part. They're not as involved and Audre plays alone a lot.
I've been moving new furniture into my place so I haven't been letting my 5 roam lately (it's too hazardous) and I just got a new cage. Maya and Audre are the only two who fit through the bars and they run around at night exploring together.
I caught the family sleeping together today in a new toy I just bought, this nesting box off Amazon but Audre goes to sleep later (around 10am) so I don't know when her parents crawled in with her, she was in there alone this morning.
You can buy an add-on to make it a Triple Critter Nation! It stands six feet tall. This doesn't answer your question, but it's good to know expansion options if you really want to make a spacious home.
Midwest Deluxe Critter Nation Add-On Unit Small Animal Cage (Model 163) Includes 1 Leak-Proof Pan, 1 Shelf, 1 Ramp w/Ramp Cover. Compatible w/Critter Nation Models 161 & 162 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00551LBUW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_SWd0DbKVTK5N8
Then I recommend this. https://www.amazon.com/Kaytee-Clean-Cage-Safe-Deodorizer/dp/B000HHLSAW/ref=sxts_sxwds-bia?keywords=Cage+clean&pd_rd_i=B000HHLSAW&pd_rd_r=0da7b4aa-3665-41a1-af31-5a8e2da2bce0&pd_rd_w=0fAQD&pd_rd_wg=cPJVF&pf_rd_p=f0479f98-a32d-45... and this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01KU18NHK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Whatever you decide to buy make sure the bars are horizontal not vertical, makes it easier on their feet when climbing. Like this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001NJ0DAY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_jHEvBb785CA00
This is the cage I bought:
Bird Parrot Cage 32"x18"x64" Overall... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OLAPCNK?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf
It's the perfect size and it took me 15min to install. Instructions weren't great but price to quality it's a solid cage with more than enough space. Lots of ways to open it for access, and they cant escape it! Unless you dont close the gates all the way.
I found this on amazon, Polar Fleece Print Leafy Leafy Fabric By The Yard https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01C8ZCYMQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_G2U6xbDD3HGTX And I saw some camo fabric that's pretty nice on ebay.
This is my male, and I have two girls. I took this picture shortly after I trimmed his nails. He is always happy and excited after his nails feel better.
I got this tent, and it has worked wonders. Now I don't use it much because my gliders are bonded enough that I trust them not to run away from me when they are in a bigger space (my glider room). It's kinda confusing to fold at first, but once you learn how to do it it's very easy to setup and put away. It takes very little space to store.
Since your glider is at least comfortable being in your body, it means she is learning to trust you. Gliders in general don't like to be held, remember they are prey animals so they tend to scare very easily. They like to be in control and in an advantageous position to seek safety in case of danger. Your goal is to make your body be a place of safety for them, so if they feel threatened they can climb up to your body instead of running away from you.
As for treats, try some plain or fruit flavored yogurt. Each glider will have a slightly different preference to what foods they enjoy, but it's a good bet that she will like yogurt. Just don't give her too much because it can cause loose stool. I usually give my 2 gliders half a spoon worth of yogurt (at most) for them to lick off my fingers throughout our bonding time.
I just use a knife and sometimes a hand chopper like this one
I vary between using fresh fruits and veggies vs. frozen ones. Really just depends on what I pick up at the store that day.
>They crab less than they did when I took them in.
Progress.
>I have them on a proper BML diet with veggies/fruit as a side, as well as feeding them crickets and mealworms as treats and a side for meals.
This is definitely helping.
>They don't have the biggest cage in the world
I would try to make this a priority. They typically need room to jump around. I'd also get them a good wheel (not a wodent wheel or anything similar that has a center axle. I'd get a Stealth Wheel, if it were me (it was me a week ago, and just got one)) if you don't already have one for them.
>I recently remodeled their cage and they love it.
Progress.
>We play with feathers, I rub them in their pouch while they sleep
Progress!
Honestly it really does sound like you've made a lot of progress. I think you might be overanalyzing it a tad (like I was with mine). Just keep interacting with them. Hand feed them treats, etc. Do what /u/Masaharta suggested and put your scent in their pouches. Also, try carrying them in the pouch hanging around your neck while they are sleeping. Play video games? Carry them in a pouch. Watch a movie? Pouch it.
A couple of days ago I could never get my gliders to come out of their pouch with ANY light on in the room. Then the other night I had the pouch hanging around my neck and was standing directly below a huge fluorescent light and one of my buddies popped his head way out to scope out the area with me. Made me so happy.
In my limited experience, it sounds like you're doing fine. Just keep at it, and try to find a bigger cage.
This is a great cage. Also be sure to check out this website. The home page has a "best cage" review article.
I can actually help with that part. I would not recommend that wheel because of how it connects to the base. First off, the base can be hard to secure down inside of the cage to keep it from sliding around as she'll jump around on it. But the second and more important part is that the because the disk is just being attached because of pressure and the way that one is made, there is a chance a glider could get their tail caught in the axels connectors when she'll walk around it. This may not be a bad wheel for a glider but it is definitely one you do not want her using unsupervised.
I would recommend that you use either this one http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B006JDBAJ2
or this one. http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00C2E23VQ
The first one I had for the longest for my two girls and they loved it. The only downside I can say is that if you're not careful putting it back together, it has a chance of coming apart after a cleaning. The other one, while admittedly quite a bit more expensive, I would say is worth it in the long run for at least my two girls. They both adore the second wheel and it is easier to clean than the first one. But again the price point is a bugger but something to keep in mind.
