That explains the data loss. Consider this scenario:
Is there a way to use the recurring functionality in Tasks to do true recurring tasks? ie, a web app instead of Google Tasks to mark tasks complete?
I'm trying for full task list functionality which syncs between phone and either a Windows app, or a webpage.
Thanks for the help.
That's awesome. Now I understood that I can use any client that supports CalDAV. I won't need Outlook then... phew :-).
I just looked at the services you've described and tried to find one I could use. But now I can use Thunderbird and the like. Perfect!
PS The first time I tried it it only synced parts of what I have in the Android app (only the default list
). This most probably has to do with me having set some properties wrong/inconsistent which I'm going to check.
In gmail/gcalendar you need to open the Tasks sidebar (blue circle with a checkmark on the right), then click on the drop down at the top of the sidebar and select 'Create new list'. This new list should then appear in Tasks.org next time you sync
Thanks for the note about the completion date vs due date recurrence, that's exactly what I needed.
I do have a suggestion for recurring task completion history. Leaving all current recurring task functionality intact, you could add this feature: When a recurring task is marked complete, an identical, static, nonrecurring, "dummy" task is created and marked complete, alongside the original recurring task. Thus, a recurring task would leave behind a trail of completed tasks, one for every time the recurring task was marked complete.
I suggest making this feature a task-specific setting, though, so that users could choose which tasks they want history for.

By the way, thanks for developing Tasks.org! It's by far the best open-source Android tasks app, and is far better than anything available for Windows. (p.s. a Windows and Linux version would be great, or even just a web app)
Unfortunately Tasks is not yet available in a web browser. If you set up CalDAV synchronization with a free Nextcloud provider then you can use the Nextcloud Tasks web app. Let me know if you have any trouble setting that up
Either Tasks doesn't have permission to access your calendars or you don't have any calendars on your device. If you don't have any calendars then you need to set up a sync adapter like DAVx5 to synchronize with your calendar server
I just signed up for a free mindomo account but couldn't find any way to set up the CalDAV integration mentioned on that diagram. If you know where I should look let me know and I can try it out
Glad you got it set up!
I can't take credit for self-signed SSL support, that is thanks to cert4android (from the DAVx5 developer)
And your confusion with the lists is definitely a UX issue that I need to solve on my end.
When users set up an account on my Tasks.org service there is a button to automatically migrate all of their local lists, but I haven't implemented a more general solution to move lists to other services yet.
The workaround works! It would be better if thing is being default. Nobody uses subtasks without maintasks anyway :)
I didn't think to use todo apps before tasks.org because of a number of feature constraints, but my productivity has really grown since I discovered the app by chance.
Thank you, my life savior
Out of the box Tasks.org works offline only, and your offline lists are displayed under the header 'Local lists'. 'My Tasks' is a filter that shows all of your lists combined into one view.
If you have enabled synchronization then you can tap on ☰
and you should see your synchronized lists underneath your account. You can tap on ☰ > Settings > Task defaults > Default list
to choose which list is used by default for new tasks.
You can move a task by opening up the edit screen and choosing a new list, or by using multi-select from the task list screen
Direct EteSync v2 support will be available in v11.0. This feature is currently available to alpha testers, but there were a couple minor issues in that version so I didn't roll it out to beta testers. I hope to release a new beta version early next week. You can sign up for alpha testing here
As u/shompoe said, EteSync (which I created). Works great with Tasks.org! I'm not sure about what kind of filtering you are looking for, but we are very quick to respond to feedback. :)
WiFi/Bluetooth triggers are something I would like to add, however I'm not sure when I'll get around to working on this
There are a couple options here:
You can contact support at tasks.org if you have any trouble getting this to work
Tasks can add items to your calendar but it cannot display items from your calendar. This is something I would like to support in the future.
You may be interested in ToDo Agenda, an open source widget that will display your tasks and calendars together
Thanks for testing. I guess the next thing to do is repeat the test with due times further away and see if at some point you stop getting reminders. You could also try installing the DontKillMyApp app to test your device and see if apps are being killed for some reason
>u/DearGodPlease I created something like that in my app Overlytodo . Still it is not that good or relaiable as Tasks so it is only good for really everyday tasks that you could easly miss. anyway I added hide after so tasks are automaticly hidden.

>Mayby someone would like to make it based on Tasks, still I currently not got time to make it based on Tasks, but it is to do if someone is interested in it.
It is better to use a dedicated app for that like Loop Habit Tracker
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.isoron.uhabits
You don't need to bother with missed tasks plus you have nice statistical overview.
Foreground offers Taskwarrior sync using a tw java client that might be useful if you ever decide to offer Taskwarrior support. Given the current TW apps are either highly limited or broken they'd be a lot of interest in an app that can sync with TaskWarrior.
