While we're talking about apps I'll take the opportunity to shill for the one that I made, for Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=br.com.gualandi.dailypill
Free with no ads, and it's designed to show a notification without a noisy alarm that would wake you up. (Main limitation currently is that it can't track more than one medication at once)
I highly recommend a sleep mask, it really changed my sleep - well, that and a weighted blanket. Here's the sleep mask I use: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B089NCRJYS though I turn it inside out and added pads to the speakers to make them softer.
Also, I recorded a sleep train story just the other day for my sleep stories podcast! I though it would be cool to tell a story about how you go ride the Orient Express to space and visit Mars. It was fun. It's here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hcp7SnuR4e8 (It's mostly dark screen, lightly illustrated and subtitled.)
I didn't have as extensive a surgery, but found sleeping on one of these https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07GZB5SJZ/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_3YEHA606ED5P27DDR0GX was helpful. I also used a neck pillow so my head didn't flop over. I didn't have much pain...worst part was the sore throat from the breathing tube. Chlorasceptic spray did wonders for that.
I’m planning on using Hy-tape it’s zinc oxide based. https://www.amazon.com/Hy-Tape-Zinc-Oxide-Waterproof-Latex-Free/dp/B002DRVPQ6/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?adgrpid=55218426719&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIqru3g7Tb9wIVFY_ICh20nw1LEAAYASAAEgJl_fD_BwE&hvadid=580811487833&hvdev=m&hvlocphy=9007257&hvnetw=...
The hospital will probably provide a refillable ice bag but you might want extras. These ones are the best! They get just the right amount of cold. Cough drops or hard candies also help with the throat pain.
My personal experience is that morning alarms don't work great because they tend to be snoozed. What I use is an app I made that shows a reminder the first time you pick up the phone after you wake up.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=br.com.gualandi.dailypill
I slept sitting up in bed with a bed pillow like this one: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07VWC1B49/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_W66GB7Y4MW4616K9TXAB?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 I couldn't lay down for a week or so...
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this wedge pillow. I slept on it for 3 or 4 months after surgery. It has various height levels, so I was able to slowly work my way down to sleeping on a normal pillow. I also used it while I was sitting up in bed to eat or read. Hell, I am over a year post surgery and I STILL use it. We call it "The Wedge" in our house lol well worth the money.
I bought this one from Amazon - Lunix LX6 3pcs Orthopedic Bed Wedge Pillow Set, Post Surgery Memory Foam for Back,Leg and Knee Pain Relief. Sitting Pillow for Reading, Adjustable Pillows for Acid Reflux and GERD for Sleeping Navy https://www.amazon.com/dp/B085W4NLZ4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_4VVWKDBNX6X53T60D8PJ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Headphones, a neck travel pillow - this one is the only reason I could sleep Twist Memory Foam Travel Pillow... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IEJHJWK?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I also brought a warm but petite blanket from home/ hospital blankets do nothing for my cold running body! You’ll do great!! Keep us posted
I ordered these and I’ve never missed a dose:
My alarm is set for 6 and it’s the first thing I do in the morning! … and then go back to sleep for an hour 😂
Ah! Sorry! I got this one and it was great. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IN8TJYY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I'll take this opportunity to shamelessly plug the reminder app I made (for Android): Daily Pill
I found that alarms didn't work well for me. If they're before I wake up, they're annoying and would get snoozed. If they're after I wake up, I'd get into the habit of dismissing the alarm even if I hadn't actually taken the pill. So I made an app that just shows a notification without a noisy alarm, as well as a full screen message when the phone is picked up for the first time.
It was more like this:
I laid on my back with my shoulders and arms supported by the pillow.
Did you use this pillow for your back support to sleep up or did you sleep on the side? Was it something like this? https://www.amazon.com/Leachco-Snoogle-Jersey-Total-Pillow/dp/B003D7E2XI/ref=sr_1_40?crid=3NEE2EX07JSVJ&keywords=pregnancy+body+pillow&qid=1636230987&qsid=139-7831628-7609365&rdc=1&sprefix=pregnancy+body+pillow%2Caps%2C51&sr=8-40&sres=B07JR3T1G6%2CB083936B4V%2CB01N44MTLJ%2CB08YYVRXLM%2CB06W56XFQ4%2CB095WLSR7V%2CB0916F6BSL%2CB08GKBJFRK%2CB07F1M7X7R%2CB09C21T7DL%2CB01KIQH2VU%2CB09CGX7B5C%2CB099KRT9SC%2CB09D32FZ5P%2CB099WLCT2N%2CB095W2VKYW%2CB099K7KPM8%2CB094J4HG5K%2CB08MFH9SLG%2CB08688NR6K&srpt=BODY_POSITIONER

Was crazy to see the levels initially then how they dropped
By the way, I'll take this opportunity to shamelessly plug the reminder app I made. These days I don't tend to forget very often, but in those busy weeks where the routine is messed up there have been times where the app got my back.
In my experience, using a noisy alarm didn't work well. What often happened is that I'd snooze the alarm and then forget to take the medication later. O
That observation led me to make my own reminder app. It shows a full scream reminder & notification when I pick up the phone for the first time in the morning. And it keeps track of the time, so I know how long I need to wait until breakfast.
While I would prefer not to take it, I have found that I feel much better on it (plus a small dose of T3) after my TT. My doctor is fairly cautious with increasing the amount slowly (adding an extra ½ a pill one day a week), so I have not had any negative effects from having too much.
I wake up at 4 am and take my pills, then attempt to go back to sleep until around 5. Then I get up and enjoy my coffee. It is not fun having to wake up to take it, but I am sleeping so much better than I have for the past 10 years, so I guess that is a good trade-off for me. I do keep a spreadsheet and track my sleep, exercise, naps, and resting heart rate daily so I have data to present to my doctor rather than just trying to recall the past couple months.
I know I am being strange about this, but I do not like the feeling of having my prescription bottle on my nightstand...it makes me feel more like I am sick. So, I found a cute small pill case that I fill each week. It helps me remember whether I took my pills, and also feel like my nightstand appears a bit more typical.

I have surgery in 2 days and I'm curious about what kind of recline would be best for sleeping afterwards, in an almost sitting position or slight incline? Debating between something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PLMGC9C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_9ZKG24N9JB6B53JTDHEC?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&pldnSite=1 Or like this: https://www.walmart.com/ip/seort/354113372
I got 30mci, and my geek husband bought this radiation meter to get an idea of how radioactive I was: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IN8TJYY
On the first day (Friday) this meter was clicking like crazy if it got within 10 feet of me. The next day it was 6-8 feet and so on. The radioactive “bubble” around me kept shrinking each day. The doctor told me I could leave isolation on Monday, and by then my bubble was 1-2 feet so I came out of the bedroom and just kept my distance from everyone for a few more days. When I held the monitor close to my neck it clicked like crazy, so I knew there was uptake in my thyroid bed (which the whole body scan confirmed).
6 months later I took a 5mci tracer pill to prep for another whole body scan. I had to isolate for 1 day that time, and my bubble was smaller. The meter didn’t go crazy when I held it to my neck, and when I had the WBS nothing lit up there.
ah i'm not the only one! massaging my scar makes me a little nauseated, too. i found that this little roller from gaiam is cool to the touch and really helped with that issue. i'm doing vitamin e skin oil on the scar and that same bumpy part is smoothing out nicely.
