Try clenching your left hand into a fist while poking at your throat. Or coat the back of your throat with some oral numbing spray, like Chloraseptic, a few minutes beforehand.
Yep, sure is. Do you have a bobby pin (for hair) lying around? You could try to gently hook it out. I've had better luck with that than the cotton tips. I clean first by running the bobby pin under very hot water for 30 secs. If you get tonsil stones often (I do, which sucks), you could buy one of those tonsil stone remover kits on Amazon. I love mine: https://www.amazon.com/AirgoesinTM-Upgraded-Remover-Tonsillolith-Irrigator/dp/B018VMED2E
I got this kit of amazon and that was in it.

So this is the one I got, but I apparently got the old version before they added the better one lol 😅
DR. TUNG'S TONGUE CLEANER, 1 Count, Assorted Colors https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000ZM7MMW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_N96SQ2YW4XXTXXM59FTW
Buy this tongue scraped, it’s the best because your tongue actually plays a bigger role in bad breath. It’s a magical tool. If your tongue is white or have coatings of - it means your breath probably smells. Scrape off that film/coat to reveal a nice pink tongue.
For the video you mean? I just use my phone flashlight.
For getting a better look into a crevice like this, these curved syringes are great for both pulling back the "flap" and then irrigating out the crypt. But just for the more satisfying video, I went with the popping out approach rather than flushing out.
Just as an aside, it's fascinating to see how different peoples' tonsils can be! I feel like most people don't have these flaps like I do.
water piks are too powerful for tonsil irrigation for most people. i recommend using a syringe or a sink attached water irrigator.

And a water flosser is much, much more effective than regular floss. Takes a week or so to get used to, but when you've got it down you'll never go back.
Also last suggestion, if you're using a normal tooth brush...get an electric one. Incomparable to manual one.
Better breath comes from better oral hygiene and having the correct tools makes a world of difference.
When I got my widsom teeth out I bought this head wrap with ice packs that slide into it and it helped so much to keep the swelling down. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GX69H3W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_F32G89Q7YD2E8TSYFKAB
just buy this or use a waterpik at lowest setting
I got this one on Amazon about 4 months ago and it's been a great little kit to have. I've had no issues so far!

I just found out there a tonsil stone removing kitstonsil stone removal kit for like $10
Two recommendations:
If its hard to see and can't seem to take them out you can use this:
It's an Ear-Wax remover with a camera
In the many videos you can see here, they don't show the accurate position of your tonsils sometimes.
In my case I went just a little further back and was able to take some of them out.
Poke it for a bit, If there's a struggle to get them then use the curved syringe and apply water.
Use your phone to get some light back there, better to do this very early in the morning if you gag reflex is strong.
Hope it helps.
Try a manual water syringe. Seems to work the best for me. People say waterpik, but I honestly don’t know how they do that, there isn’t enough control and they seriously hurt my tonsils.
With the manual water syringe, you have to gently insert into crypts and apply water pressure, be careful not to hurt yourself.
https://www.amazon.com/TecUnite-Disposable-Measurement-Irrigation-Mouthwash/dp/B078K8SVMN/
The first time I had the pressure way too high and it caused me to bleed. But then I figured out the one I bought had a setting where you can turn the pressure all the way down and that was better. Still hurt for about 30 minutes after but now feels much better. I’ll link the one I got!
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B089NSTYZN?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Mine are almost the same size, at least one of them. Had perfectly fine tonsils until one day I caught a terrible tonsilitis and my tonsils have been obliterated ever since. Still looking for the ideal help, but so far this mouthwash (not sure it's available everywhere) has helped me a lot to keep it at bay, technically it's meant for infections and such so I don't know if you're technically supposed to use it daily for a long time, working that one out.
Specifically I got this:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0953Q7V12/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
However, my annoyance with it is that you have to use it's own WIFI. And it disconnects often. Often times I'll be in the middle of a good pop and the screen freezes and I have to reconnect.
But if you search for the same terminology you can probably find one. Mine doesn't screen record by default, but my phone has a screen recorder built in. You can also download a screen recorder if need be such as xrecorder.
Some people have had good results using an irrigation syringe you can pick up at your local drugstore, the kind with no needle just a long curved nose, like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Defend-Disposable-Curved-Irrigation-Syringe/dp/B078YH34CV
For me personally I use my kitchen sink spray gun and direct it to the back of my throat full blast, although I have to do something muscular to my throat to prevent myself from gagging or inhaling water, something hard to describe.
The basic idea is to blast a stream of water at the stone so it gets flushed out of the crypt.
I’ve tried a couple nail tools but what I use recently is for removing ear wax. I’ll send an Amazon link to something similar:
5 Pcs Ear Pick, Ear Cleansing Tool Set, Ear Curette Earwax Removal Kit with a Storage Box and Small Cleaning Brush https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07P4MNL5G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_VQ039XKFXRSXQESS1W2B?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Just make sure there’s no sharp edges to any of the metal tools. I also got a small but very bright pen flashlight to see better.
You can also buy tonsil stone kits that have a syringe so you can blast water into the crypts. For me it’s less gagging to use the metal tool, the water blast is a lot but worth trying
These are the syringes I have. I tried using my waterpik and the lowest setting was still too much for me, so I got these. I would just stick the tip of the syringe in the holes and flush them out.
Got my tonsils out two weeks ago, so this is a good reminder to go toss those
https://www.amazon.ca/Airgoesin-Lighted-Remover-Tonsillolith-Irrigator/dp/B018VMEBN0/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?crid=2RFRLXMVIBWV3&keywords=tonsil+stone+removal+kit&qid=1649380034&sprefix=tons%2Caps%2C91&sr=8-5 this is the item, it lights up and has various attachments. The prescription rinse (supposed to reduce inflammation , clean the tonsils , make the stones smaller) is called benzydamine hcl 0.15
I got some syringes that are super useful. I’ve never been able to use my water flosser, the pressure is just way too high. With these, I stick the tip in the holes and it flushes them out. If you don’t know where your holes are, poking around with these would probably help find them. As long as I flush every couple days, they get out before they get giant and gross!
I used my finger this time, but usually I use the things meant for extracting black heads. They’re usually metal with a loop on the end

Hi, thanks for sharing! Gotta look into that...
Do you scrape your tongue every day? Poke the front with a q-tip or your finger.
Try a water pik on the lowest setting (this one works best for me, personally)
Purchase an ear wax remover (Amazon Link)
That sounds like tonsil stone liquid, the precursor to tonsil stones.
My tonsils will feel slightly irritated after removing stones just watch for symptoms of infection to make sure it's not something more, inflammation, heat or fever.

Now back to the liquid, you need to irrigate your tonsil crypts, I'll use a solution of warm water and mouthwash, about 60/40 and a syringe to get in there, gets all that gunk out of there and leaves my breath very fresh.

I am not a medical professional.
My best luck has been using one for these oral syringes and flushing the tonsil crypt with water. I find that if left unattended 5-10 stones can accumulate in one crypt which I’m guessing is what’s happening to you.
Lol yes, gagging myself unfortunately happens to me, also. I bought one of those little tools that I think are intended for removing blackheads (see link below). I never used it for blackheads or pimples though lol I just sanitize it every time before I stick it in my mouth. I use my phone flashlight and then gently poke my tonsil. I also try to keep swallowing any saliva as it forms in my mouth. For some reason that helps me to not gag. Once a stone is out of the tonsil, I use the little tool to try and scoop it up (which usually doesn’t work) or I drag it with the tool along the inside of my cheek. The thought of one of these touching my tongue grosses me out 🤣🤣 I’ve seen a lot of people on here using a Q-Tip to remove stones but the couple of times that I’ve tried to use one, I always gag immediately. Hope this is helpful and not too graphic lol

I'm in the same boat and I use this endoscope to get at mine. Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on how you look at it, I haven't been getting them lately so I haven't had to use much but I still check for them. Don't know why, the only real change I've made is drinking homemade lemonade, made with real lemon juice from Aldi, instead of just water.
Not the person you're replying to but I have this one it works pretty well for me, only issue is the camera fogging up a bit from my breath.
I've never tried an orabrush, it looks interesting. I like this: Tongue Scraper with Travel Case - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LAY47D0/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_HGC926QXS27XEWPTFZHZ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
It gives me good leverage with both hands to really scrape a good layer from my tongue with a pull motion all the way from back to front. It's a different color altogether after, light red, when I'm done.
As far as a water flosser goes it's I got one ~18 months ago and will never go back. I've sometimes seen things fall out of my mouth while using it. You'll probably experience some gum bleeding between gums and teeth when starting out, that eventually goes away.
In the end I think the increased water intake on top of it all is what made a big difference.
I can tell you’re really bothered by it, but I can almost guarantee you’re the only person who notices! Something that may help you is a mouth wash by Colgate called Peroxyl. You can get it on Amazon for less than $10. That’s what I recommend to my patients with recurrent tonsil stones, and I’ve heard good things :) I’ve been using it since the first stone I had and have had none since. I really hope you get it figured out- and I feel you LOL I do not tolerate pain well, so I’d sooner extract tonsil stones daily than I would get a tonsillectomy 😂
Here’s the link for Peroxyl
You need to get yourself some curettes instead of sticking your dirty finger down your throat! They're much more effective too!

I've just started taking these from amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00MA5RMIQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_WJ1H2FA5PCSV1QAZR5XB?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
The reviews look good - I will update you if I see an improvement in stones 😊
I had the same thing happen to me as a 6th grader. I sat there gagging for the entire minute it took to set. Dental Hygienist didn’t hear or see as she cleaned the room. When she saw my tear streaked face and pulled the goo from halfway down my through she asked if I couldn’t breath through my nose. Obviously not...Orthodontist referral to an ENT lead to adenoid but not tonsil removal. I’ve had awful gag reflexes since then and have recently discovered that I have tonsil stones.
Anyway, start with running cold water over index finger and sliding it back against the cheek towards tonsils. (Make sure your nails are clean and smooth first.) I also ordered these tools for more targeted removals which helps. I also run cold water over the tool. I use a small LED pen light Tonsil Removal Toolto see what I’m doing and hold my cheek and lips out of the way.
I have a bad gag reflex too, so I got a water flosser on Amazon. I just flush them out with a little anti-bacterial mouth wash and water.
This is the one I got, and it’s PERFECT for tonsil stones and the spray is pretty powerful and goes far, so you don’t have to touch your tonsils much. It doesn’t make me gag! Only occasionally when I choke on some water haha
Water Flosser Non-Electric... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08WYX4RVZ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
DON'T use a water pic unless your tonsils are made of steel. I just use my fingers and these things. Lots of people use the water syringes but I could never get that to work. Tried the water pic and it hurt like a mfer and made my tonsil bleed. Never again.
Get a humidifier and this ice pack was a lifesaver when I started to get ear pain around day 3 or 4 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KJQW6TP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_Q4S9QDWYKE1N94GZFNQK?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
It’s a curved tip syringe. If you search that on Amazon, they’re usually sold in packs. I heard that happens often with water piks so that’s why I went this route.

I bought these lighted tonsil stone picks back in September and let me tell you...best decision ever!

Certain medications can make your mouth very dry (I have the same problem). Also, regarding brushing your tongue, use a tongue scraper, not a toothbrush. It gets a lot more gunk off, I've found them to be helpful. https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01LAY47D0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_A2d2FbHQQW956

For now you can use a qtip or maybe a wooden chop stick. I actually purchased one of those metal ear wax tools from Amazon and have been using that successfully. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08DT8SKFQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_JHkRFbV4ZKPJR?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Fair warning: After you use it, your throat feels better, but getting rid of all those things makes ‘em tickle for a few hours.
Use this instead at very low pressure. Don't use an electric WaterPik, as it will do carnage (literally it will pierce to your tonsils and they'll bleed) even on the lowest pressure setting. Once you are comfortable irrigating all around your tonsils (i.e. not just what you can see but also the rear which is a gold mine of tonsil stones too!), your tonsils will start to shrink. Tonsil stones are bacterial colonies that cause inflammation, if you remove the bacteria, the tonsils can finally take a rest and the inflammation goes away. Mine went from being as big as olives to being almost flat. Once the inflammation is completely gone and no tonsil stones are left in there, you can start using an electric WaterPik which allows you to use things like baking soda solution or hydrogen peroxide solution in it to further kill the bacteria. However, regular maintenance is required as the tonsil crypts are still there and bacteria always finds its way there. I currently do it a couple of times a week and usually nothing comes out. The benefit of doing it regularly is fresh breath.
I use one of these for my big crypts (the smaller end, obvs) https://www.thebodyshop.com/en-gb/face/beauty-tools/blackhead-remover/p/p000947 And the middle tool (also small end) from this kit https://www.amazon.co.uk/BESTOPE-Blackhead-Comedone-Extractor-Tweezers/dp/B071HF44QR/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=Blackhead+remover+tool&qid=1603200889&sr=8-3 both hook the stones out really well, and I'm able to get them out of my mouth without accidentally swallowing them. I've been using these tools for years, absolutely swear by them.
Wow, thank you for doing all of this research!
Have you tried these yet, any results?
I've been dealing with biofilm in my sinuses for over 5 years but only just learned about them. Mine manifest as tonsil stones, sinus infections, and ultimately (and the worst part) severe dizziness/vertigo.
I recently learned about a mouthwash called glycothymoline, it got rid of my tonsil stones completely. Here's the kicker tho, I was directed not to use it as mouthwash but in a Neil-pot (like a netty- pot but you squeeze the saline solution into your sinuses so it's pressurized rather than relying on gravity) 60/40 saline/mouthwash mixture. It burns terribly, really badly. But after doing it twice a day I stopped having tonsil stones altogether.
Here's a link to the brand:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000NB5BHS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_wFLzFb29TXZEH
My sinus infection symptoms have been coming back now tho and I started looking for ways to rid myself of the biofilm and came across this:
https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fmicb.2017.02599/full
TLDR: high dose vitamin C breaks up biofilm.
Another redditor posted it and said they found it helped. I also learned that zinc helps to break up biofilm as well.
I'd love to hear of your progress with the remedies you've found and hope you get some relief!
a curved tip water irrigator is just a little syringe-looking thing that people use after having their wisdom teeth out. https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/519S9tctnHL._AC_UL115_.jpg just push the plunger to flush the cavity.
I'm not endorsing this particular sale item but just to give you an idea of what to search for https://www.amazon.com/ROSENICE-Disposable-Dental-Irrigation-Syringe/dp/B075LDLQRH/
(edit: you are right, waterpiks are too harsh.)

I gotta say, the light does nothing but blur my view and I have no idea how I'd ever use the tweezer tool. But everything else in the kit has been helpful
bro try getting this on amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01C6OEIVY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
it makes you gag a lot less when you try to get them and you can use the light to see in there so you can remove it
a lot of people like blackhead removal tools / pimple extractors like this one on amazon
I prefer a tool like the 4th (left to right, with the circles on either end), especially if the end is a little curved. Never (EVER!) use the lance (the sharp one on the right end)
That stone is pretty low and close to the tongue. Not sure if everyone feels the same but I gag easier the closer the stone is to my tongue. Good luck with that one!
Sorry I’m just getting to your comment. I ordered it off Amazon in a kit. Here’s the link:
Airgoesin Upgraded 2 Lighted Tonsil Stone Remove Tool Tonsillolith Pick + Irrigation Clean Syringe Fresh Breath Oral Rinse https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01C6TXL30/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_s0OeEbQMD06HE
These are a god sent!! I have never gotten a tonsil stone out. I didn’t think I had them because of it. I discovered this subreddit and decided to try once more. Nothing but this kit has gotten them out. I’ve removed close to 40 tonsil stones. Some are very small. I’m assuming they just broke apart and I have a few HUGE ones that are packed in deep.
ETA: the light on these works GREAT. And there’s multiple attachments. The extension one works the best, along with the water irrigator and the metal scoop to drag them out once they pop loose. You can also use one of the tools as an ear wax remover. No more wasting money on buying q-tips which are bad for the environment and your ear.
If you have an eye dropper around- I use one to squirt water (mixed with just a touch of mouthwash, if mint is your jam) into the crevices to loosen and move up stubborn stones. That does the trick most of time. Sometimes coughing or forcing some yawns helps too.
I picked up one of these on amazon, and it’s pretty handy sometimes too,
If you’re used to quips, just be careful poking around though, tonsils can be fairly delicate.
Good luck!
I hope it helps you! Just in case peroxide
I too have that same issue!! I always buy these, I wet them a little bit and then I reach back there, use the Q Tip to pull back the flap and then I just push around the stone to get it to pop out. Took some practice but works like a charm https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06X9WDGV2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_AWmfDbFQYC77R
