Some people are reporting months of wait in some cases on this subreddit for document return.
So if you can obtain your EU country's passport (and if expired / never held a passport, push for urgent issuance if necessary) and use that in the EU Exit app:
https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/eu-exit-id-document-check/id1478914184

instead of posting a document for proof of identity, it's probably preferable.

I assume you acquired Danish nationality at birth, as not all people born in Denmark do so.

EUSS settled status, assuming you have not physically been outside the UK for more than 1,825 days (5 years) in a row.
> how long it takes
Anywhere from days to about a year. Typically about 3-6 months, although the Certificate of Application is usually issued fairly quickly in such situations.
> how much it costs ?
£0
Use the Home Office's "EU Exit" app for iPhone or Android and your passport

You could be right, but I took OPs comment of "Neither of them used the books to study." to mean they were suggesting you should study the books.
My counterpoint, which still stands, is that I only used a non-official app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bubblingiso.LifeintheUKTest) and passed on the first try. The questions in this app were incredibly similar, if not the same as the test itself which I took last month.
Are you a national of an EU/EEA country?
And you lived in Northern Ireland for 10 years?
And after moving away from the UK, I assume you have not been entirely absent from the UK for five straight years?
If so, apply for EUSS.
It's best to apply with the Home Office's "EU Exit" app for iPhone or Android for the quickest response.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=uk.gov.HomeOffice.ho1a
Great, although that's not even strictly necessary. It would have been enough to have possessed a Norwegian national ID card (or even a passport of other country, like Canada, the US, Japan, etc, if you were clearly a Norwegian citizen at that time like through one of your parents, etc).
Assuming you meet the conditions mentioned above, you might generally apply for EUSS using the "EU Exit" app for iPhone or Android and your Norwegian passport.

You should probably recommend to your parents and siblings who also resided in the UK for 5+ years with you to apply for EUSS now.
That way, they keep those rights to live and work in the UK as along as they want (assuming they never have had or will have a 5+ year straight span of absence from the UK, since completing the 5+ year continuous residence).
Them applying for EUSS now would be a good idea because technically the deadline to apply for EUSS is already passed, but late applications are being treated extremely leniently -- for now.
Were you or any siblings of yours born in the UK?
Are any of your siblings under 18?
If so, you and/or your siblings should also think right away about whether you want to apply for British citizenship.
There are actions to take soon and the clock may be ticking, especially if any of your siblings were not born in the UK but are still under 18 and want British citizenship.
Disclaimer - all of this is general information only, not legal advice. Consult a British immigration lawyer for legal advice about the situation.
> no way to re-apply (even for settled status)
Yeah that's been confusing to other people as well, and IIRC the advocacy group the3million has complained about the setup also.
Try using the "EU Exit" app for iPhone or Android to start a new application.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=uk.gov.HomeOffice.ho1
Just to be sure, were you born with Italian nationality?
If so, assuming you lived in the UK for at least five continuous years and were an EU/EEA national during that time, you would likely have already become eligible for EUSS settled status.
Because you have been outside the UK for less than five years, you would still generally be eligible.
Applications are best submitted through the Home Office's "EU Exit" app for iPhone or Android:
https://apps.apple.com/de/app/eu-exit-id-document-check/id1478914184 (Apple App Store - Germany regional link)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=uk.gov.HomeOffice.ho1
and using your Italian passport with a properly functioning electronic chip (NFC/RFID chip) inside (as opposed to your Italian national ID card).
Once the app verifies your passport chip and takes a photo of you, it will then have you answer some questions about your former residence in the UK. Within minutes after you should receive an email verifying that you submitted an application.
At that point, you will generally have rights to enter, reside in, work in, and study in the UK.
At some point afterward, within minutes or weeks or months, you should receive another email message with a Certificate of Application PDF that further confirms rights.
As an EUSS settled status holder who has lived in the UK and/or EEA for at least three years, you should be eligible for reduced-cost "home fee" tuition status at UK universities.
yes, dont worry - once you get to the final 'submit' button and pay stage, then you'll get a link to the company handling the biometric appointments in your country to chose the date and book the appointment (probably VFS or CScontact...or some name like that...I forget), You will also then have a link to the portal where you upload all your docs. Here you can upload whatever you like, one pdf at a time, and there is a little dropdown list next to each upload to say what category it is in...like 'financial proof' or 'residency proof' etc. For proof of relationship docs I put them in the category 'other'.
By the way https://www.ilovepdf.com/ was very useful for me to convert your docs to pdf before uploading. If you hit the upload limit and they ask you to pay to keep using, just open an 'incognito tab' in chrome and carry on ;)
I can understand. try contacting vfs on their customer care email. Also, hit them up on twitter and trustpilot. VFS is very active on trustpilot it seems.
Use revolut and make sure you sign up with a UK address as you won’t be able to change it later. You can verify your ID with your own government issued ID or passport. It doesn’t have to be UK issued. Here’s my referral code: https://revolut.com/referral/jennifdcjl
I’m from the US and just moved to London as well. Not planning on opening any other banks. Online banking is so much easier!
here's the national lockdown guidance, incase it has anything about this.
> could my passport chip be damaged?
Possibly. You can try checking it with the ReadID NFC app for Android or iPhone:
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/readid-nfc-me/id1463949991
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nl.innovalor.nfciddocshowcase
(Some older or cheaper Android phones might not have an NFC reader.)
> Could it perhaps work with another phone
Potentially. If the app cannot properly read the NFC from the passport, even after powering off and on the phone (and making sure the app has all permissions, if on Android), you can try another phone. An NFC reader is just like any other electronics, and could potentially fail because of various software or hardware issues.
By the way, because you're mentioning the ID Check app instead of the EU Exit app, but your flair says "EU" --
Are you an EU / EEA national? If so, what was the last day you were physically present in the UK for even one minute, for any purpose, prior to 1 January 2021?
Here is the app:
