yes, the 4.4mm balanced jack is ~25% louder than the standard 3.5mm.
these are the headphones I use, not crazy expensive and probably too big for most people but I love music and these are probably the best bang for the buck. Look for "warehouse deals" - I've had awesome luck with them and Amazon's return policy is the best.

It works alright, some sound quality is lost. Recently Spotify added mono support so I’ve been using that :)
I don't know about it going out of production but I found a link to it on amazon new and free shipping. Link Here.
I have a Sony TCM 200 DV, i use it for recording things and playing with the pitch function, which is fun.
Its a well built and great for recording and listening, if you are happy with quite lo-fi cassette quality recordings.
This is the one i have, the price on Reverb is ridiculous though, i got mine for £25 ($32.59 US) secondhand on ebay.
If you want to record your voice and it sound higher quality then a new digital voice recorder would cost about the same.
I was thinking about buying something like this And cutting a whole through the top part for button access; however, I am having trouble finding a good size.
There is a revert script available for all the patches. I recently did it to change to a different patch and it all worked smoothly.
I'm sure you can get the artwork to show without the patch by just finding the right format. I also use Meta (MacOS) which offers a lot of tag/artwork editing.
If you can hold out until October 8th, the black on is expected to be back on stock. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-NW-A55L-Walkman-Portable-S-Master-Black/dp/B07X3XD1BW/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=a55+walkman&qid=1632697819&sr=8-3
I’ve been using this one with the gum sticks I got from Amazon. Works really well. Putting the batteries in so the edge is facing up works the best. Took me awhile to figure that out. 😄
I loved that the NW-S705F had the built-in ANC which was pretty amazing at the time. The only problem is that you had to use the proprietary headphones. I lost the extender so it's annoying to use the shorter cable. I do have ANC Bluetooth earbuds (Samsung Buds Pro) though so I found this MaedHawk BT 5.0 transmitter on Amazon. It lets you connect up to 2 pairs of BT headsets/speakers.
My headset only supports SBC but the sound quality is pretty good and the newer ANC is probably better than the built-in stuff. If you have a headset that supports AptX it will transfer via AptX or AptX LL.
So, it's pretty neat and still kinda pocketable.

Could be an old tape or you just need to use a qtip with rubbing alcohol to clean all the pieces the tape touches. The tape can be fixed with a clean cut and some scotch tape. There used to be a tool for doing it with real to real that I used on cassettes when I had a full head of hair.
Something like this https://www.amazon.com/Audio-Video-Splicing-Repair-Tapes/dp/B078YZ2J4K
I was raised on LP's, 45's, 8tracs, real to real, cassettes and CD's. Now I just stream or play ripped CD's on my Xperia because Sony is dumb and will not put a Walkman logo on it. Tapes wear out but my Love Over Gold CD from 82 still sounds great. ramble ramble... tape is just another fad blah blah blah.
If you get de-oxit deoxidizing contact cleaner and put a little bit on the volume port and turn the dial a BUNCH to move it around, it should fix the issue.
