Think of how crazy pro wrestling is. Two huge powerful guys are putting on a show about beating each other up. But, they try not to seriously hurt their opponent. Except it hurts, and mistakes happen, and sometimes things get too crazy and people slip and it's some weird no man's land between a fight and a show.
Sure, it's not folkstyle, and it's not MMA, but it's beautiful. Pro wrestling and kayfabe will teach you a lot about politics (which is sad and crazy in its own sense). Brett Hart's bio is pretty great, I recommend the read.
After knocking out 2 teeth at practice I now wear this mouthgaurd. It’s pretty low profile so I don’t mind it during practices and matches. Trust me losing teeth is a huge pain in the ass.
A battle is most often won before it is fought, that's from a book The Art of War, the key is preparation. Perfect practice is a good motto, having a good practice partner is important. Those guys you practice with everyday are going to have a much greater impact on your next match than any opponent. Don't try your best, just do it perfectly... Sharpen your stances, your motions, your positions, transitions, balance
Sort of. Non Brazilian jui jitsu was turned into Judo by Kano. Maeda and others came to the states and other countries trying to show off Judo but everybody had heard about how cool JJ was, so they showed it off along with judo. Eventually some Brazilians got involved.

Mine are in better shape than those too... I was shocked when I saw the winning bid! Hell, I'll sell mine for that kind of money!
OK first off you’re wrestling off your knees so I’m not sure what that’s about exactly as far as I know you can’t down block from your knees. You can’t whizzer with zero commitment it just looks like you draped your arm over his, that’s not a whizzer. At one point you got your leg trapped in between your opponents leg I haven’t technique for that I’m not sure it’ll help though, it’s kinda a nail from being in bad position which in this case you were.
Not being a jerk but if you want to wrestle buy a copy of Dan Gables essentials and master the basics.

Look for surgical or speargun tubing. You can get them in different thicknesses and lengths. You'll want one atleast 1/2 inch (12cm) outer diameter. Thicker = more resistance. See a thick boy below
I’ve used this for a while now. Not recommending anything this is just my personal experience that it’s helped my neck strength and stiffness tremendously. https://www.amazon.com/Vikingstrength-Strength-Trainer-Training-Exerciser/dp/B07NCZPVL3/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=K5V1R7641DOW&keywords=viking+strength+neck+harness&qid=1648902875&sprefix=viking+strength+nexk%2Caps%2C162&sr=8-3
I don't wrestle anymore, but if I did, these are what I would wear - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08H3MPH7W/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1&psc=1
They didn't make these ball-hammock underwear when I was still on the mat, so I usually wore like spandex material underwear. These are similar material-wise, its just they have that hammock for your balls which is nice for all kinds of exercising.
If you love Ohio high school wrestling, you have to check out the book Mustangs by Jim Kalin. Mostly references the Cleveland area but covers the whole state pretty much over the course of the book.
If you did weight certification, then they should have measure BF%, and you can check those records.
The cheapest way to do the measurement is using calipers, but that's kind of hard to do yourself. I would recommend asking your athletic trainer or gym teacher if they can help you out with it. They might even already have calipers. Back in my day, they did BF% as part of things like the Presidential Fitness tests.
The scales are ballpark, for sure, but they're better than nothing.

They have guards that go over the braces which you can use rather than a bulky mouth guard. My son used them in HS when he was wrestling. They’re meet the guidelines/rules criteria.

I rolled with the standard style headgear. I went without chin guard/cup, but a lot of guys swore by the chinstrap version. For me, the chinstrap was a distraction and would need to be screwed with throughout the match. The chin thing would always end up off of my chin and then the whole headgear is loose and causes major distractions.
As for getting it properly adjusted, getting the headgear over your ears properly is pretty easy to do and easy to test (punch yourself in the ear, if it hurts, you did it wrong). The hard part is finding the balance between the headgear being tight on your head at all three straps without it choking you or causing you to struggle to snap your chinstrap. You want to tighten it up until your partner can't get their fingers under the earguard or straps. It should feel uncomfortable at first ... like a weak toddler put you in a headlock, but once you get rolling you'll stop feeling it. Issues happen when your headgear can slide around on your head, so the tighter the better.
The standard recommendation here is the antifungal Defense Soap.
That said, the best defense against this stuff is good consistent personal and team hygiene. If you guys aren't already washing mats before and after practice, then get it organized with your coach and team captains. Shower immediately after practice in the locker. Never wear dirty/used clothing, and wash your gear at least once a week (kneepads, headgear, etc).
Getting individual teammates to shower is highly valuable, but also socially very difficult. Your coach and team captains should be taking on that responsibility, and if not ... have a private conversation with your coach and ask if they'll work on mentioning consistent showering going forward from the perspective of it being a competitive advantage (as a ref, I will not let you wrestle with suspected communicable disease, and ringworm is super contagious).
I’m not wrestling in it, but working and working out I like this type because it doesn’t pull on the ears and it’s pretty comfortable.
Buy a few Grip trainers. They have different ones with different levels of resistance, and if you keep at it, you’ll get some crushers. https://www.amazon.com/Prohands-Gripmaster-Strengthener-Spring-Loaded-Finger-Piston/dp/B00ISEPVAO/ref=mp_s_a_1_11?dchild=1&keywords=prohands+hand+exerciser&qid=1606325094&sprefix=pro+hands&sr=8-11
We always used something like this for our throwing pads in my Judo class. I don't remember the exact brand, but this is a generic pad.
ProtonVPN has a free tier. Might not be fast enough for streaming though. TOR is a free option (to use a foreign IP, not a vpn) but idk if that's fast enough either.
Or you can pay $5/mo for a VPS or paid VPN. I watched the Burroughs/Sidakov match with no problems using Mullvad vpn. VPS is probably faster but VPN is more versatile.
Use your skin creme and if your school doesn't supply their own buy some. Shower after every practice/meet religiously. Not much else you can do.
This is what my daughter uses when she has to. This one has been the best we have found. Stays in place keeps hair in place and the best is that it goes under headgear not over. Also order a couple always have a back up! https://www.amazon.com/Adidas-aH100-Wrestling-Hair-Cover/dp/B00JR4USPC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1478193409&sr=8-1&keywords=wrestling+hair+cover
This is totally personal preference. Folks have outlined the basic options. Another thing to think about is how often you want your knee to slide and how often you don't want it to slide. If you go without a pad or sleeve and have issues with ingrown hairs, you can shave your knee to keep that from happening.
Honestly, I think the volleyball kneepad is not an optimal choice because it encourages bad habits. When you shoot, if your knee touches the ground at all it should be for just a second before you pop through your opponent. Hanging out on your knees is a good way to get tired, give up a takedown and waste time. In referee's position a volleyball kneepad isn't ideal either - there are plenty of times you want your knee to slide on the mat (depending on your style), but a sleeve does a better job of this.
I wore something like this on two knees in my sophomore year in HS: http://www.amazon.com/Brute-Neoprene-Knee-Pad-Red-Small/dp/B000LG5V3Y
My junior and senior years in HS I wore that sort of thing on one knee. In college, I didn't wear any pads/sleeves.
http://www.amazon.com/ASICS-ZD360-Super-Sleeve/dp/B005ACKNAK These right here. They are worth every single penny. When you're on your knees it feels like a pillow and there's some cushioning on the sides so that you'll still have padding when you're on your side. i 100% recommend this. And I'd recommend getting one for your other knee if you have the money
