Not exactly true, malicious programs can use a number of ways to bypass a firewall even if their executable files are denied outgoing access to the internet.
try running Comodo's firewall leak test and see how much stuff your firewall of choice lets through.
Firewalls leak. Once malware gets on your PC, it's pretty much owned. It can bypass your software firewall a hundred different ways despite your little block rule.
Try running Comodo's HIPS and Firewall Leak Test Suite and count the number of ways your firewall has failed you.
You can use several firewall programs (if you are using windows) such as Glasswire, NetLimiter, COMODO Firewall, and many more.
Wait isn't priacy against the rules of the serv- ahm anyways I suggest you download 2 things. 1. Malwarebytes 2. Comodo firewall. Malwarebytes will scan for the crypto miner and comodo will block any application that asks for suspicious things. Both of them are free except for Malwarebytes. it has a trial version (14 days long but after those days you can still scan but any other feature is locked.) You see Malwarebytes and comodo are not exactly AVs but if you want a good one I suggest Kaspersky cloud AV. There is one downside to it Kaspersky spies the f**k out of you because they change certificates to theirs to protect you.

https://tinywall.pados.hu/download.php Simple, free and without marketing crap. Haven't used it personally.
https://personalfirewall.comodo.com/ used it for a couple of years, good customization, has some marketing crap bundled in, need to disable/remove it.
Ended up buying https://www.netlimiter.com license, excellent tool, a lot of customization and additional features.
Comodo Firewall (not IS) - firewall, HIPS, and auto-containment (sandbox)
If you want an easier time using it in future (and assuming you have a clean system), change Firewall and HIPS to Training Mode, and enable Create rules for safe applications, then run every application you can think of on your system (e.g. media players, office apps, Notepad, browsers, etc.). Once you're done, change them back to Safe Mode (you can leave creating rules for safe apps enabled or disable it, won't make much of a difference).
Windows firewall is horrid I know what's going on but it's to complicated to set up. Anybody that Microsoft has a license for you can't block. I can't find a link for this but was mentioned when it was first released.
I like Nod32 or ESET. You need a good Firewall, Windows firewall will not block any site that has a certificate with Microsoft, in fact will bypass any block. Comodo firewall will work, but needs Use Autoruns to remove the Browser and extras it installs.
Were you using the free version of Bitdefender? Kinda surprised it would care at all about Comodo Firewall. Or have you installed Comodo IS and then just disabled the AV? May need to use the Firewall only installer instead.
What were the invasive and controlling aspects of Kaspersky you mentioned? I've uninstalled 'their' VPN, and declined to install the parental controls module and password manager. That's the only extras they offer I think.
Currently Kaspersky is the best AV, with Avira, Sophos and Bitdefender being fairly close, so your selection is spot on, as is your disregarding of Avast/AVG. I don't have experience of running Sophos with Comodo, but I've never liked their decision to use a web interface.
• Region: EU
• Type of Bug: Vanguard STILL blocks driver or program
• Description: if Vanguard is installed my firewall deactivates/breaks/stops working. I use COMODO Firewall ( https://personalfirewall.comodo.com/ ), whenever I install Vanguard(launch game and reset PC) vanguard interferes with the firewall and disables its(the firewall) functionality.
IF I UNINSTALL vanguard and reset pc firewall works as normal as it should.
• Video / Screenshot:
• Steps to reproduce: (btw, all the features of COMODO can be disabled and even then vanguard interferes with it)
1.Install the game 2.launch it 3.reset pc for the vanguard to load. 4.install COMODO firewall (just the firewall) https://personalfirewall.comodo.com/ 5 reset pc to finalize installation 6 the firewall will launch but it will say its functionality is broken or disabled (PC vulnerable) 7 uninstall vanguard 8 reset pc 9 firewall works again! magic!
• Expected result: same as a week or 2 before, where i had both game and COMODO firewall working and all was fine.
• Observed result: there was brief period of few days I belive, where after vanguard patch that intruduced driver blocking, I updated the unverified drivers checked with sigverif AND ALL WAS FINE. Then I belive next vanguard patch broke my setup, firewall no longer works.
• Reproduction rate: 10/10 uninstalling vanguard fixes the Comodo firewall everytime. Installing vanguard breaks firewall EVERY TIME.
• System specs: i7 9700, gtx 970, 16gb, HDD, 1 year old nvidia drivers (game worked fine about 2 weeks ago).
Your only testing to see if the connection fixes itself. WinKey+R type in services.msc you can disable much here and/or get the names of services to disable. Download and run autoruns to disable the rest. Myself, I disable Windows Firewall and it's AV (SecurityHealthService) - running Comodo and a HOSTS file. -You can really get yourself in a lot of trouble with Autoruns, don't do anything if you don't feel comfortable.

Most paywalls that give you a limit can be easily defeated by clearing your saved browser data.
Usually it is a cookie that is left that tracks the number of visits to the site. (or at least deleting cookies resets the counter on many sites)
Another option is to use a firewall like Comodo that allows you to "sandbox" an app, so all evidence of it is cleaned up after you exit.
This includes browser history, cookies and more.
I go for the free download here
