I like Drafts. I use it to open files from iCloud, DropBox, OneNote, etc. It works with share sheets. You don't have to use fancy features if you don't want to either. It's pretty plain.
As far as the recurring task with end date goes: "every friday ending july 14", for example. Or "every 3 days until july 14", etc. You can also include start dates -- e.g. "every sunday from june 4 until july 25".
As far as jotting quick thoughts and then developing them later, check out "drafts" if you are an IOS user. I was skeptical at first but became a convert. It integrates nicely with Todoist. http://agiletortoise.com/drafts/ Very neat little app, although it costs $5.
There are loads of IFTTT applets for todoist. Go to IFTTT and do a search on Todioist. Easy to log to google spreadheets, etc.
As far as the download from website to todoist for your practice schedule, I'd love to see this too, but so far no luck. If there is any way to get your schedule into google calendar, Todoist now integrates with that, although I have not tried using it that way yet.
Even though his videos are at the beginner level, you might also enjoy a few of Carl Pullein's series on todiost: https://www.reddit.com/r/todoist/duplicates/4zooh5/todoist_tutorial_series_70_howto_videos_on/
I am an avid todoist user and have much more to say, but this is enough for now. Feel free to message me. Good luck!
For writing down a quick TODO or note, I've been using Drafts (http://agiletortoise.com/drafts/). Once you've written a note you can quickly do a bunch of actions. I created an action that takes a note, and formats it with '** TODO [date] [title]\n[body]', then appends it to my refile.org in Dropbox. You can't edit things this way but its a fast way to create things for refiling later.
I use Drafts multiple times a day; I like the simplicity of opening up the app and just having a blank page and keyboard immediately appear. It ties into Evernote really well, as you can set it up to send whatever you type to a note/notebook, or have it append to an existing note instead of starting a new note, just tons of options.
It's a place to input text, then send it to various apps. I have mine set up to send emails, messages, append text lists, and much more.
I often forget something as soon as I think of it. Drafts makes it possible for me to quickly get that thought where it needs to be. I love it.
Drafts gets some press, but it's absolutely the best note app I've ever used, easy replaces any checklist apps you may be using and allows IFTTT or automation like scripting. on a more fun note, Field Trip will sit in the background and ping you if you walk close to an interesting landmark or event, which is great if you travel often.
I'm a iPhone user and to capture things I don't like the IFTTT with dropbox that append the .txt
to the file, so I use Drafts http://agiletortoise.com/drafts/ with a template like yours. It works very well to my needs.
If you are a GTD follower (David Allen's Getting Things Done) you know how important to capture things in real time and have a reliable way to do it quickly. It's not always convenient to pull out a notebook and jot things down. I keep Drafts on my watch screen at all times. I'm able to drop a quick voice to text note in the app, and can process it later. It's been a butt-saver when I've got a dozen things going on and the boss drops another action item on me.
I use Notability to record my sets and make time-stamped notes on them later, Drafts to quickly write ideas down, and Evernote to organize jokes
But then again, he is just wishing for an app like Drafts which, as you'll guess already exists and works very well.
Make it your starting point for any task. You open it, type whatever needed, and do the processing (open/format the data for the actual app/service you want to use) later.
The "And by the time you need to select the app, the OS has done a 95% accurate job of doing it for you, so you simply proceed without ever actively selecting the app" part is missing, but I think it's more of a bonus point, the main point being the task-oriented aspect.
You can get really creative with workflows between applications using yes the share-sheet or open-in is what you should be looking at, but if you have more complex sharing or actions you want to perform between at applications like Drafts (http://agiletortoise.com/drafts/) or Launch Center Pro (http://contrast.co/launch-center-pro/), such as in Drafts taking what is in the clipboard and opening an application using an x-callback-url to automate actions or open the app up a specific way.
its not exactly what you are referring to, but
If you spend a lot of time on iOS or the iPhone, I prefer Draft because it loads very quick and I can start typing right away. Aside from that, I usually just use the "new post" button on wordpress.
If you have an iOS device, Drafts will change your life. It makes it super easy to jot stuff down and send it wherever it needs to go.
If you don't have an iOS device, get a pen and a pile of index cards. Write down whatever you're thinking, put the card somewhere you'll remember it (if the idea comes to you in bed, put it on top of the snooze button on your alarm) and process it once you get back to your writing environment.
