There's this theme for ExDialer.
You will also have to install ExDialer.
I use ExDialer and Android L Theme

Highly recommended, almost perfect (the only downside is that recently the developer has changed the way the contact matching is done and in logs it now matches first contacts on SIM even if that is explicitly disabled).
As far as dialer is concerned, I am partial to ExDialer with its Dark ICS theme.
>Personally though, I regard T9 as legacy tech that's overdue to be phased out.
Personally, I couldn't disagree more.
Think about how many steps you had to take to achieve the same result... With T9, you open the dialer, you have 9 huge number keys with letters on them, you can immediately hit 7(PQRS)+2(ABC) and pull up Rachael. This is extremely fast and very easy to do with minor focus (ie - while walking, driving, whatever). With the way you do it, you open the dialer, hit search, pull up a full keyboard with tiny buttons and peck someone's name? Ugh.. sounds grueling.
I strongly recommend you at least TRY a T9 dialer out, it's amazing and once you start to use it, everything else seems ridiculous. I use Dialer Ex
I really like how this theme looks and feels on my phone. Its very easy to make.
You can download the wallpaper, nova backup file, and Zooper files here: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B1qKEE3jPNgSa1dhQl9jMWNIeTA

The phone icon is all you need for both phone calls and texting if you use exDialer: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.modoohut.dialer
Let me know if you have any questions.
Yup, that's the only stock app I've had problems with. I'm now using ExDialer with its Android L theme
Works great and has multiple themes so you can make it look like what you want (I currently have #HOLOYOLO but you can also get touchwiz s3, touchwiz s4, stock 4.4 etc)
As far as I have come to understand this is an issue with the Sense Dialer app that comes on stock HTC phones. I found threads going back to Sense version 2 with people having this issue. Clearly it has not been addressed by HTC since then. I understand the majority of cellphone users probably live in areas that require full number dialing. But I happen to live in the last place in Ontario that still has 7 digit dialing where almost all of Canada is using 10 digit dialing.
So far, I have come up with three solutions to this problem.
1) Start dialing by contact name instead [example: 52843 for Katie]. Or at least start dialing with the area/country code first.
2) Add the appropriate alternative short number to each of your contacts. Have +18073505555 and 3505555 both under the contact.
3) Change dialers, every one I tried supported the 7 digit matching of my 10 digit contacts. My favorite has been EX Dailer, it has a easy to use and understand interface with the ability to theme it easily. I believe it's technically a trial app but after the trial period, if you do not purchase the pro version, it just nags you once in a blue moon to upgrade. I have the pro version because I used it often enough to support the developer so I can't recall how often it nagged. I also can't see how much the paid version is but I believe I paid a buck or two.

Speaking of, I just installed this 4.4 dialer after being reminded by this thread of how crappy the TW one is, and how nice my iOS 7-having-friends' dialers look in comparison.
Makes a huge difference! Really happy with it so far. There are a couple different themes available.

There are lots of dialer replacements that will do this for you. exDialer and Dialer One are both good options.
Depending on which version of Android you're using, there was an option under "Call Settings" that let you set the tab it would go to when opening the dialer. I think they removed this option from ICS & Jellybean. I can't seem to find it.
I know it is in CM7 or Stock Gingerbread. Dialer > Menu > Preferences. At the bottom, there is an option for default tab.
If you are on ICS/Jelly Bean, check out exDialer
Hope this helps.
Check out exDialer, I like it for swipe-to-call/message and its great contacts search. Very customizable. Responsive developer. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.modoohut.dialer&hl=en
