Thanks for your reply.
I hope that you have success with your project but I doubt that I would use it for the forseeable future.
I'm afraid of vendor lock-in. I've been using Anki for years and during this time millions of software projects were started and most of these stopped development and over time many will become unusable (Chrome Extensions are probably especially endangered because of the rapid pace of development).
Even if your project is brilliant from a technical and user point of view there's a good chance that few people will use it. There's a good chance that you will stay the only developer and that there won't be an active community like around Anki (a lot of great and useful software projects remain in this state).
There are many reasons why you might stop developing this project: new partner, birth of child, parents in need of care, new house, new job, new hobby, ...
Then I'm locked in and hundreds of hours of work would be lost ... unless
So: Anki Export would be fantastic.
I like about Anki that most addons aren't too complicated. At the moment there is a transition to Anki 2.1 (python3, html-engine, ...). So there's a lot of work but quite a few abandoned addons have been ported over by other developers. So I don't mind being locked into Anki ...
The redo
command work just fine in Explorer, but even so... you have a point: undo
is (ab)used too much. I'd love to see Explorer++ grow, but I'm still the same since Win98: juggling with a commander (Salamader now, I used to use Total Commander).
On a brighter note, I love the simplicity of fman and the plugin system is just Python so is easily extensible.
You have to check out https://fman.io/ - it's clean and simple, offers one of the killer features "GoTo on Steroids" and you can download tons of add-ons or write them yourself (Python).
Disclaimer: since I'm working in the zsh or with dired, I'm not using it myself. However, if I would need a GUI file browser, I would use fman for sure. And I know many happy users of fman that switched after my recommendation.
Hi! One good example of GUI application build in Python is fman (https://fman.io), which is a Sublime like app, with dual-pane file manager for Mac, Windows and Linux. The framework used is fbs (https://build-system.fman.io). However, you can use fbs for free only in open source projects that are licensed under the GPL.
There doesn’t exist a file explorer that’s focused on aesthetics that works as well as the default one. You could look into Windows theming to change the default appearance but keep functionality. Niivu on Deviantart is a great place to start and includes comprehensive guides. Alternatively you could look into something like fman for a minimal aesthetic.
For those who do not want to enter their e-mail for download instructions (or too lazy to navigate to 10minutemail.com).
Install fman
's GPG key:
sudo pacman-key --keyserver hkp://keyserver.ubuntu.com:80 -r 9CFAF7EB sudo pacman-key --lsign-key 9CFAF7EB
Add fman
's repository:
echo -e '\n[fman]\nServer = https://fman.io/updates/arch' | sudo tee -a /etc/pacman.conf
Install fman
:
sudo pacman -Syu fman
This file manager isn't free unfortunately.
fman author here. You could use the source code of fman's very very first version as a starting point. It's linked to in this post. You might also find my http://github.com/mherrmann/fbs very useful for packaging your app. It grew out of fman.
In my experience, freezers such as cx_Freeze or (the more actively maintained) PyInstaller only take you 80% of the way. They don't solve a lot of problems that come with packaging extra dependencies, adding required DLLs, or other common tasks such as creating an installer. fbs basically packages the solutions that took me months to come up with, so you don't have to go through the same trouble.
Ahh okay so quick response. You are my hero man. I will use this app in my everyday life. Really think about selling this. You know what it can bring you passive income. For example I bought this software https://fman.io/ from the developer. It is really nice software. What is your discord?
